tl;dr: Try! It! This place ranks #1 when it comes to taste, speed, price, and service combined. It doesn't have any indoor or outdoor seating, it's only a drive-through joint. However, what it lacks in seating it makes up in everything else. We were just passing by Tennessee and read this was the go-to local burger place and we decided to give it a try. The service is great, and the line goes amazingly fast. I tried the Big Pal burger combo with fries after a long drive for under $8 and let me tell you - it is legit. The burger doesn't try to be anything fancy or creative, and it doesn't have to. It's perfect just as it is. The fries could be compared to the McD's ones in taste, but a bit crispier and thinner. Took a vacation down here, and we were just driving around but I noticed a HUGE hotdog and told my girlfriend that we needed to stop there. The place felt like an old school restaurant which we loved. We got 2 shakes, and an order of their fries(AMAZING BTW). Customer service was amazing and helped us since we didn't know how the place worked. Pals is fantastic. Best burger and overall food around. However, with a measure to save money, they switched providers for their meat (Gordon Food Services now.). They are well known for their hotdogs, but this time, the wiener was very crunchy. I was told by the manger that this was a corporate decision and I can certainly provide proof. I ate another hotdog at the original location in Downtown Kingsport. The hotdog was crunchy too. I passed them up because there was a line but later a friend told me it moves fast so I went back and tried it out. Love their chili burger. The seasoned fries are great too. You tell them your order at one window and it only takes a minute to get your food at next window. Fast friendly service. Update a year or so later I'm adding to this. The milkshakes are also really good. Service at Pal's is always quick, with very little wait time. The employees are always very nice and polite. When we visited this restaurant I thought they would have good food considering there was a VERY long line. Tried the cheddar rounds and big pal. And a sweet tea. The tea hurt my stomach. I never come through this part of Tennessee and not stop at Pal's! EVER! I absolutely love this fast food and I am NOT a fast food fan. The freshness of their ingredients is by far the best. The cheddar Rounds are like tots with cheese, so yum. The bacon is thick and crispy. I also enjoy their gravy biscuit... pretty much all of their breakfast is da bomb! For lunch or dinner, when i stop by, I always get their Big Pal. This is a thick burger topped with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo. I also enjoy their chili dog, and sauce burger. Their toasted cheese is like non other. It is two this pieces of toast with cheese, lettuce and tomato. With any afternoon and evening order you have to order Frenchie Fries, and when you do, you need to order a large. Their fries are way too good to pass, seasoned with their pal's seasoning they are awesome! Pal's also has the best milk shakes, but depending on which location you stop by they offer different flavors. They have a refreshing iced tea that you can order by the gallon! And the employees are always very nice. Being that Pal's is a drive through and not a sit down, you pretty much have to know what you want to order as soon as you pull up to the window. I would look up their menu before you stop by. I have been here so many times, but still take longer then the average person to order and this probably makes other customers irritated. Hence the motto "sudden service". There is one location that allows you to walk in and order and they have tables outside to sit down at, but I'm not sure which one it is being that I'm not from around this area. This is another "you must visit when you're in TN" place. We were gone for a couple months traveling in different states and the first thing we wanted when we came back (besides green trees and mountain views) was PALS!! When my girls come visit from college it's the first thing they ask for. Their burgers taste fresh grilled, you get a huge sweet tea for a buck, and their fries are AMAZING!!! We get pretty much the same thing all the time, but they have chicken as well as burgers and a breakfast menu. They have their menu on their website. If I could eat a whole chicken sandwich, I'd order it, but it's too big for me. When my daughter was in highschool her and her girlfriends got the cheddar rounds every morning. (I'm never up that early, so I've never tried breakfast.) Their portions are nice. There is always always ALWAYS friendly service, they get a long line sometimes but it goes fast, you can order burgers how you want and they have never gotten a order wrong (and we've been there a lot). This is the only place I don't check my food when I pull out of the drive-thru. The map link I clicked on this website is a little misleading - makes it look like it's farther off the highway than it is. It's really right off of 11W next to a radio station and bank, right by the plaza with the Antique store, Dollar General (or Family Dollar whatever it is), tanning place, and Church Hill Library. You can easily see it from the highway. And you get the pleasure of viewing their 'thought of the day" that's posted on their outdoor sign every day. (Today is "Think Deep Thoughts" - I'm having deep thoughts about finally trying their Apple Fritter!) This is definitely our favorite fast-food restaurant! read more
