I stayed here for the first time last weekend. It's incredibly charming and cozy, small, humble, affordable and old. All the of my favorite adjectives for quaint hotels. The Palomar Inn is right on Front Street in Old Town, Temecula, my new favorite place. I over heard the manager saying something to a lookie-loo about it being haunted. I experienced nothing out of the ordinary. Except the ghost that pushed the remote into the sink but, other than that, it was pleasant and calm. Right in the heart of Old Town you just can't go wrong with this little place. It's got a tiny sink in the room, a TV a big bed and a twin bed. The bathroom is at the end of the hall and shared by four other rooms, I think. Very hostel/bed-n-breakfast like. I would totally recommend it. If you're into some lame things like a Hilton, then you should probably stay at a Hilton. If you like unique charm, Palomar Hotel is your place.

corner of Front and 5th. the upstairs corner room is Room 1, where the people-watching is stellar.

we spent the weekend here and we are in love. we love quirky, old hotels and the Palomar Inn brings you back in time. it's evident that they are trying to preserve the original charm. parking is a bit of a bear, but we managed to find street parking close by. the greatest thing is the location. you're in the heart of old town front street. we walked the town both days and really enjoyed the shops and restaurants including Viva Vino, the tapas place behind the hotel on 5th run by the same owners. the hotel itself was cold on this rainy february weekend, but we had a space heater in our room which made it nice and cozy. Andrea, the inn keeper, is the sweetest! she is very personable and made us feel like we were a guest in her own home. we will definitely be coming back to visit! here's a few tips: since this hotel is very ma-and-pop, when calling to book your room, call after noon. the owners are usually up late every night closing their restaurant. also, the bar scene on front street is pretty wild on the weekends, if you're looking for a quiet getaway stay during the week. but this weekend wasn't bad for us at all, and we had to be up early. don't freak out about the shared bathrooms. they are very clean and spacious. you definitely take a step back in time in this old western gem. we can't wait to go back!

Two thumbs down from the Bachelorettes!

We did eventually get our room and overall enjoyed our stay. The fridge had black dirt in the corners and it was super challenging to find a working ice machine. My kids enjoyed the pool and having a slumber party with their parents in the hotel room. The complimentary breakfast is also really yummy! So many options for everyone. This would have been a 5 star review if check in was less stressful.

What looks like the front entrance along Jefferson is not. It's actually in the back. I parked at the other hotel's parking lot then walked over to check in. That was relatively smooth. I was given a parking pass to display on my dashboard. It's $12 a night for underground parking with elevator access straight to your hotel room floor. Overflow parking is outside in the lot shared with the other hotel. I got to my room and it was just okay. You can't go below 68 degrees. For the hotel-goers in us that like Arctic temperatures to sleep, that may be a problem. I left it on "Auto" at 68 and somehow it bumped up to a humid 78 degrees inside. And a faint smell of urine towards the A/C unit. Now the part where I was just grossed out. The bathroom. There was mold along the bottom of a section of a wall towards the baseboard. It was so bad that I guess maintenance ripped out the portion and it's just black mold. See the photo in my review. The metal trashcan in the bathroom was disgusting. I know Hilton is going the green route, but add a plastic liner or something. Rust and garbage residue is just not visibly appealing. Again, see the photo in my review. The showerhead? It had dried soap scum. Luckily I brought Lysol wipes with me to wipe that down. Made me wonder about the water. The shower area itself? There were long strands of hair everywhere. Some were even stuck to the floor of the shower itself and I just let it be. Recall that I mentioned Hilton going the green route. They only service your room and bathroom every other day of your stay. So if you're in for a weekend stay, they'll just clean it when you check out essentially. I understand it's expensive to staff, but I'm sure the every other day schedule leaves gaps in cleanliness for future guests as indicated by my review. I do not recommend. Front desk employee that checked me in was the only positive thing. For the room and stay itself, I would book elsewhere.

We stopped in on a Saturday morning to drop off our cars and luggage and returned later to check in between wine tasting and dinner. I will start with the few positive points. First, the staff is very friendly and they tried to be helpful. Also, there is always fruit iced water in the lobby as well as a free coffee and breakfast in the morning. Breakfast didn't look too good, so I just grabbed a little fruit, but I was grateful that they had coffee. As far as the hotel, it was really run down with tons of scrapes on the furniture and appliances. You practically had to wrangle the bathroom door to get it to slide closed. The pool area was far from picturesque and in major need of an upgrade. They do a free happy hour for guests which includes 2 free drinks. It is a nice effort, but the wine was pretty bad and the margaritas were an unnatural shade of green. It would probably be best to either give just one decent drink (this is the Temecula Valley after all) or forgo the happy hour altogether. This would have been a 2-star review, but two things really bothered me. First, they knew that we had arrived early and requested (but didn't expect) an early check-in. In any other hotel, we would have been able to check in by 3PM, or at least 4. We had been wine-tasting and I really wanted to take a quick nap before dinner and our evening out, but our room wasn't ready until after 5:30, which is really out of the question. Also, in the morning, I ran downstairs to grab a couple of coffees for myself and a friend. Then I went back upstairs to get into the room. Our key wouldn't work. I ran down to ask for another key, and they explained that I had to turn the doorknob up to make it work instead of down. It did work, but the other key I used the day before had worked normally (downward). I don't like keys that require instructions....especially when not given instructions. In the process of trying to open the door and running downstairs twice, I spilled coffee hot coffee all over my hands. The location is so-so. It is convenient to the freeway and a short drive to Old Town, but not in a great location for wine-tasting. I will not stay here again.
