I stopped in for a quick spray tan (as I've been to Palm Beach Tan before) but was met with an unaccommodating staff member who insisted I needed an ID and didn't even attempt to check if I was in the system. When I asked if I could quickly grab my ID and return, even if it was a few minutes after close, the response was a dismissive "yes and no." I ended up driving to the Arlington location instead, where the staff was welcoming, professional, and had no issue with the system. Second Saturday in a row the place was closed that the AC is out. I was okay the first time- as hvac systems do break - but I have to go to the metro - wait for a train and walk there. Paid 69$ to do a spray tan but literally I never got tanned!! It never worked. I never went back because I had a big event the following day and it was pointless. I just needed the tan for 1 day. Dont use the spray machines because its a waste of money and they don't tan you. I also was going to go with dark and she said that would be too much, start with medium. I paid for a spray tan that actually didn't tan and had a photo shoot that I appeared to be the same color as my white bathing suit. I spoke to the district manager Amy today who added a free tan to my account since I clearly paid for a tan that didn't actually come to fruition. At the end of our conversation, she asked that I remove my review. I told her that I have never removed a Yelp review and certainly wouldn't for quid pro quo, this is very unethical. LITERALLY hell on earth. The staff is rude, the place is hot and smells like skin, and they're such a scam. My friend and I have been to the Clarendon location and it's not MUCH better but a little bit at least bearable. The employee was curt when telling us about the available packages and then told us about one for $29.95 so my friend said ok I'll do that one....then when she went to run her card she was running it for $49.95...she simply omitted the $20 start up fee?!? She also told us that you must cancel in person, I said wow thats crazy and she snapped at me and said "HOW WOULD we know of it was you on the phone?!" ...as if many people are fake cancelling one another's tanning membership... Anyways, I'm not the only one who feels this way since upon entering, a woman was leaving furiois at the policies and was particularly mad because the desk associate rudely alluded to the policies in a shrill and almost taunting way. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. However, I am disappointed in my overall experience. I went in today because my usual salon (closer to home) was closed and wanted to tan because I had professional pictures scheduled for the next morning. I tan frequently, and had a decent base tan when arriving. However, I was only able to tan for half of the time because it was my first time at this salon. I didn't mind, but I was disappointed when I was charged full price for only half of the time. read more

I want to commend Georgia, the manager who was on duty today, for handling a difficult situation very nicely and professionally. I had difficulty with my credit card, which wouldn't work with their swipe machine. I was frustrated by that, by more so by the fact that 1. There is no machine to take a chip; 2. She could not enter the card manually; 3. There is no apple pay/no touch pay; 4. They do not take cash. All of this led to no tan for me and I was annoyed and a little short with her. I feel this chain is going down hill fast. It's disappointing. Indoor tanning can be addictive and greatly increases your chances of developing skin cancer / melanoma - those are the facts. Look it up. But, that is not the point of this review. I have maintained a yearly membership for quite some time for spray tanning (taking all the safety precautions and not over doing it). The monthly fees are not inexpensive. Starting way back in Sterling - using (the basic) Mystic and then switching to Versa. The Versa booths used to offer a pre-tan prep spray and you could follow-up with a moisture spray. The pre-treatment is long gone as I'm sure they sold more products not offering this service. The moisture spray in Bradlee Shopping Center and Cleveland Park locations have both been broken for quite some time. Not to mention the mechanisms dripping,, or the heater is broken and the spray is ice cold..... It seems they are not maintaining these machine properly or it's time for new ones! I've experienced rudeness from the Cleveland Park staff,,, tonight there were not booties or hair caps (to protect your hair from the spray. WTF -- I drove up there for nothing. Get it together please. I'm going to explore other options. read more

I had a great experience my first visit, and signed up as a monthly. The staff is very helpful, there's no sales pressure, and the equipment is brand new. They have a parking lot in front. They really run a good business. Highly recommended. If you go, go to their website first and print out the coupon for four free tans. Really bad customer service. I've been there twice and got signed up for a package accidentally (she told me the price was one thing and then charged me a different price, saying afterwards it was non-refundable.) Because it was raining I ended up not using the spray tan, but she reassured me that it would be marked as un-used when I came back. Surprise, surprise it wasn't and I had to convince her I'd been there just a week before. I think the girl I've talked to is named Sarah--if you can avoid her I'd try to as she just seems really put out to be doing her job and has seriously f'ed up both times I've been in. read more

The location is decent and pretty much the same as the Clarendon one. Staff is usually ok but a little scarce during evening times and wait times can creep up when 1 person tries to attend more than 3 'Suntanners' at once. However, wanted to commend tonight's staff member Oliveah who did a wonderful job attending to 7 people all alone, during a little 'rain rush' with a wonderful smile and powerful positive attitude. I truly think this is the best tanning place in DC. Their prices are not outrageous, they maintain the equipment and cleanliness of the salon, and they often send coupons/promotions if you subscribe via email. I only spray tan here but I've never had a bad experience. The Vera bed is my favorite, but I've done the Mystic before and liked that, as well. read more

I have been tanning at this location for the past two years and I wouldn't dream of spending my money anywhere else. For serious sun worshipers, trust the PBT brand. For those lucky to live in NW, don't go anywhere else. You won't find a better deal for top of the line, tanning technology and customer attentiveness. ***update*** My tan was extremely light even though I purchased the darkest option. Overpriced, but better than the other place I go to because they offer lip balm, nose filters, and goggles; the room and machine are clean; and there is a heater. I paid $35 for the Versa plus $12 for the primer. It ended up being about $50 with tax. We'll see how it turns out... Will update this review if the tan looks bad. read more

I signed a 3 month contract about a year ago in which they gave me a specific date that was the last possible day I could tan before my membership ended- there was NEVER mention of having to call and cancel the membership. When I look in the mirror and appear a bit pale, I'll go to Palm Beach tan on Connecticut avenue. I'd guess that I've gone to Palm Beach tan about 10-12 times a year for the past 2 years. The primary reason I go to this tanning salon is because I can walk to it from my office. The simple truth is that I would rather drive and be inconvenienced in order to get to one of DCs many other tanning salons. Probably every single visit I have made to Palm Beach tan on Connecticut avenue has been a hassle. The girl who seems to be in charge, possibly a long time manager, Sara(h) is unprofessional, rude and makes frequent mistakes. For my most recent visit, I called ahead, spoke with Sarah and asked if there was any wait a particular sunbed. I explained that I was trying to determine if I should come over during my lunch hour or after work. Sarah said that the place was totally empty and that she did not anticipate a huge rush of customers. I promised to be right over and I ran across the street and was there is less than 5 minutes. First, No one was at the desk. I could hear a voice in the back room. Clearly she was on her cell phone. She was laughing and talking about a night out last weekend. I waited and waited. I fumbled with my large key chain and even dropped it on the floor hoping that would get her attention. Nothing. After minute 5, I called out "hello, hello". The response to that was her looking down the hall with a nasty roll of her eyes. She did NOT even end her call. She told the person on the other end "oh shit. can you hold on for a sec, I have a customer that's been waiting". There was no acknowledgement or "oh, I'm sorry" or "oh my gosh, how long have you been waiting." She didn't ever hang up.?? I said "Oh I just called about 10 minutes ago to see if there was a line for my bed". She did not even look me in the eye. She looked at her screen and said "oh, you'll have to wait. I have to clean it." She was NOT happy that she had to keep her friend on the phone waiting and her expression & body language were loud and clear. This is nothing new. For the the two years I've been tanning at Palm Beach tan, it has been the same consistently lousy customer service from the same worker. She has difficulty with simple accounting, too, but never expect her to apologize for charging you incorrectly! I don't think I've seen Sarah happy to assist me or anyone else for that matter. Other customers have noticed it, too and remarked on her. I finally realized that there are plenty of tanning salons in DC. In fact, I found a better tanning salon right down the street from Palm Beach. Not only is the staff at the new tanning salon 100% nicer and more accommodating, they are actually friendly. The beds are really nice, too and the price is the same.....except these girls know how to add and work a credit card machine. read more

I've been to another location where I received a dark, even tan. I've given them several chances and it hasn't improved. This is easily the worst location for this franchise. I am so BURNED that putting on clothes, rolling over in bed and just walking hurt. I was told specifically and clearly that the machine would turn off by itself after 2 minutes, the girl at the front made a mistake and left me in there for FIVE MINUTES! I blame myself, I knew it seemed way longer then 2 minutes and almost opened the door but it was my first time at Palm Beach Tan and thought that I would trust the professionals. When I came out and asked the girl how long I had been in there she was like "oops, wow you were actually in there for 5....well.....do you feel ok? If you feel ok then you are fine..." 2-3 hours later and since then I have been regretting going to Palm Beach Tan. I paid for a week of tanning but what am I supposed to do now that I am so burned up? It's useless and would be incredibly painful to tan any more, my skin hates me. Poor unprofessional customer service, do not trust them to do their jobs. I want my money back. read more

I was drawn in by a 3-month special, March-May 2013, in the Falls Church salon, and found I had unwittingly signed up for a whole year, which they kept billing even though I SAID my May sunless tan would be my last one under that arrangement. They finally called me back and apologized, and I got a store credit. Just be careful you're not signing an on-going contract if you don't want one. First spray tan I've ever had and I'm hooked, I can't believe my skin looks so good and glowy especially considering how tired and pale I looked before I walked in. Amy is amazing. She's incredibly patient and explains everything in detail and is super nice/polite. I felt comfortable doing the spray tan mainly due to her, and sure enough it didn't turn me orange or look streaky! And the spray itself is quick and easy and only $20, I'm hooked! read more

So I was kind of satisfied the first time I went, the girls working overthere are more or less helpul depending who is working even if they act like you're supposed to know everything about tanning.. but I went back this week for 4 free sessions supposedly for the free tan week from the 4th to 10th of January. I saw the promotion email pretty late so when I went to get my first session on the 8th the employee at the front desk clearly told me that I could use the 3 other sessions even after the 10th that I just needed to register for it BEFORE the 10th. Today I call Palm beach Tan to know when my sessions would expire and a different employee told me that today is the last day so I explain to her what the other girl told me 2 days before and ask why she would tell me that and she's like "I know we have a lot of new staff members" ok??! so meaning it's okay for the employees to be incompetent? The girl I spoke with on the 8th didn't look new to me and she looked like she knew what she was doing. The person on the phone didn't care at all and told me to call customer service.. No money was involved but misleading and lying to your customers isn't going to help your business.
