So what do you do when your favorite pizza place makes absolutely crappy calzones? This is the quandary that I found myself in this week. When I first moved to Buckeye I patronized another locally owned pizzeria for several years until ownership switched and it seemed that the sauce on top of the pizza pies changed. I didn't like the new sauce. I tried Palermo's Pizza, which is 5 mi away from my house whereas the other one is only one mile away from my house, and I was very happy. It is the real New York style pizza I grew up eating. So I had a craving for calzone, but not the traditional calzone of Sicily which has nothing in it but ricotta, mozzarella, a piece of ham, and then deep fried. No pizza shops make calzone by baking them and you can get them with a variety of ingredients inside. My favorite happens to be spinach calzone with mushrooms and sometimes other veggies like artichoke hearts or eggplant. The main ingredient though should be the ricotta cheese. I thought it was only natural that Palermo's would make a calzone as good as the pizza they make. Boy, was I wrong on that one. I ordered two calzones, one with spinach and mushrooms only as the added ingredients to the cheeses, and the other with spinach, mushrooms, and black olives. Both of them came with something that no proper calzone should have inside of it - marinara sauce, chunky or otherwise! That is saved for the outside for those people who just have to dunk their calzone into something. You'll never find a calzone in Sicily or on the East Coast for that matter with sauce inside of it. What was worse though was that the calzones were packed with cooked frozen spinach, indistinguishable mushrooms, and indiscernible cheese, especially ricotta the main ingredient! One of them had a tiny bit of ricotta like someone took a knife and spread it on the surface like you see mayonnaise on a sandwich. The second calzone was missing cheese all together - no mozzarella no ricotta nothing! Never in my life have I ever imagined such a thing. So I found them mostly inedible because the amount of spinach was overwhelming. And I like spinach! Today I found myself still craving a proper spinach calzone. So I went online and ordered a custom calzone from the pizza shop I no longer buy pizza from, Argento's. I thought I would give them a shot. I ordered it with spinach, mushrooms, ricotta, extra ricotta, and fresh mozzarella as the five options that were offered to put inside the calzone. On top of that I paid an extra buck for some shredded mozzarella. The calzone I received was the difference between night and day from the one from Palermo's. This one is packed with cheese and I can see the fresh mushrooms and the fresh spinach. It is oozing cheese like a volcano oozes lava. On top of that, the top of it is brushed with a mixture of garlic and parsley and olive oil. Absolute heaven. So my advice is that if you're in the mood for a good calzone and you live in Buckeye, order from Argento's. And if the owner of Palermo's reads this review, well I hope you change things because you guys really blew it on this one. read more

Best pizza in Buckeye, by far! We've ordered pizza from here twice and it was so good that I decided to order a sandwich and pasta with our pizza the third time- even better!! The pizza has been consistently perfect- the crust is the perfect thickness to hold everything but not be just a huge bite of bread and the sauce is amazinggggg! I feel like pizza can be dry out here along with everything else but they have the proportions on point! Last time we ordered, I added chicken Alfredo and a steak sub both absolutely delicious as well! I usually just order Alfredo for my kids because it's their favorite but I definitely dug into it, myself, too. The steak sub was seasoned a little different than I'm used to (having lived in Philly, I had an expectation but it's not even called a PCS so that's my mistake) but it was still really good and there were no crumbs left of anything!! First time here. Visiting my sister in the area. I ordered the chicken Parmesan. They brought me Chicken Fettuccine, but they fixed it right away- not a problem, I also had a side salad with it. I didn't realize I was getting a salad and garlic knots, but the salad was great! Reminded me of Olive Garden with their Italian dressing in that cold cute bottle. I loved the chicken! I would definitely order again when visiting here again. My son and nephew had a cheese pizza. My 16-yo son rated it a 7/10. 16-yo Nephew 7-8/10. Unfortunately, I did not like the garlic knots. The service was excellent! The cashier was super nice and everyone was hustling in the kitchen. The manager or owner guy was very perceptive of everything going on. He got me my to go boxes when the girl was on the phone. Lots of TV's everywhere with football on. Very happy to choose this place as I have a 8 hour drive back to Utah tomorrow. read more

After a long day of football we decided to check around Buckeye area for a local pizza spot. Palermo's is located in a busy shopping center, but easily accessible from any direction. When we walked in we were greeted and took a few moments to look over the menu. We settled on fried zucchini for an appetizer as well as their special of 20 wings and an extra large pizza for 34.99. My husband ordered a small pitcher and a couple sodas for my boy and I. The inside of the location is what I've found to be pretty standard all around the valley when it comes to New York style spots. Basic tables and chairs including a few booths, limited decor, tv's and such. Our appetizer came out quickly and the zucchini was crisp; not soggy and falling apart when you bite into it which o liked. Dip it in some ranch and even better. Soon followed the wings and then the pizza. Again, just like the zucchini the wings were crispy, but not dry. While I liked the wings for the most part the sauce could've been a bit better flavor/spice for me. We ordered our pizza all pepperoni, but half add ham and black olives. Pizza looked great when it came out. Crust thin New York style, crust crisp yet foldable and not have it soggy and drooping. This is where I'm on the fence....while it was good and crispy, pepperoni good flavor, the pizza itself wasn't as hot as it should've been coming right out of the oven and the sauce lacked a bit. The flavor of the sauce was really mild and wished it had just a bit more of a kick. Not bad by any means and we had a great meal. Service was great and I always love to support the local spots around the valley. Next time I'll have to order some other items on the menu. I heard quite a few pasta dishes being ordered from other customers while we ate our meal. If you love pizza and New York style is a fave of yours I think you'd enjoy it. read more

We stayed at a nearby hotel and I saw the reviews for this place. We placed an order for pick up. I based my order on pictures and reviews and obviously things I like. Long story short: -fettuccini Alfredo tastes bland. Costco makes better fettuccini than this place. -chicken used for the fettuccini looked like frozen grilled chicken pieces. -the garlic knots were bland. Absolutely no flavor. -the medium spice wings were ok and the BBQ wings were ok. -the pizza was really good. -the cesar salad was basic as was the garden salad. The service was rude. The young lady at the counter seemed upset when we picked up our meal. All in all, I recommend you stick to the pizza and nothing else. read more

I will give it this .... their large is large. My Husband will eat anything and had me throw away the leftovers (he's never done that). It just didn't have a great flavor. The sauce was tasteless. I ate at a Palermo's growing up in LA and remember loving it. This is not worth it and it's a bit spendy. It was nearly $30.00 for veggie topping and half meat. Decided to try a different, independent pizza place and Palermo's was conveniently located. I was hesitant after reading some other reviews (one mentioning sauce tasted like spaghetti-o's LOL), but pizza was pretty good, reminds me of the Sbarro chain in many Malls. I'd rate it an 8 or 8.5 out of 10. Price was good too. Now about the fried zucchini.... DISGUSTING. Burnt. Took one bite and immediately spit it out. Total waste of $5.99 plus tax. I don't understand how ANYONE would sell an order like this?? Unacceptable. Unthinkable. Inexcusable. Seriously? So stick with the pizza and you'll be happy, good to go. Our family of 5 ordered pizza and wings. We are from the east coast (NJ) so it's been pretty tough to find a decent pizza place out here in AZ. I have to say the pizza was alright 3.5/5. I think i will try a pie with less toppings next time! The wings were very dry we ordered half mild half lemon pepper. Mild wings were definitely better than lemon pepper. Unfortunately those were a bit too salty. Overall service was great. Ambiance in room was nice/ friendly lots of TVs if you want to watch anything. We ordered $40 worth of food. My food were the wings. Served to me in a bowl of them drowning in watery oily mild sauce. Normally I wouldn't care because I love my wings saucey. But because there was a lot of water or oil, it was hardly sticking to the wings. I ate 2 wings and picked at the third wing before I couldn't handle the taste of them. I didn't like it. I was hesitant about asking for a refund, but it didn't feel right having my boyfriend paying for a meal I'm not eating. So he went up with me and I asked if I could get a refund because I didn't like it. I brought the bowl of wings with me so they could see I haven't eaten all of the wings. All in all, their answer was, no. They can't give a refund just because I don't like it, because it's my preference. Only if there was something wrong with the food. It's not just preference, it didn't taste good. I am a feen for wings and hot sauce. My preference are wings in any hot sauce. They just made it not edible, it was not good. I didn't want to just be like "yeah it's swimming in a pool of watery mild sauce so it didn't taste good". I just said I didn't like it..which is true because to me, it didn't taste right. Either way, that's not a good enough reason for a refund. I was obviously not happy because in the food industry, when you come up to them with a concern of the food they'd tend to what you need, to make up the incident. It's not a big deal, it's a compromise. Even fast food will accommodate a refund when it's appropriate. I'm not sure why me not being able to eat their food due to the quality of it wasn't enough. My boyfriend can always work that $15 of wings back, but it's more of an inconvenience because he had to take me somewhere else so I could eat. Which inevitably was more money out of his pocket than intended. It wasn't a fair situation. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. We have been in AZ a year and this has become our go to. Until today. We ordered our usual pizza and wings. They quoted a 45 minute wait. The delivery guy hands me the receipt first I go to sign and I realized it was $20 cheaper . He then handed me a small box and a bag. It wasn't what we ordered (I handed it back). He's like ok let me check my car...5 minutes go by and I walk towards his car to hear him on the phone say "I have your order here." I call the manager he says the driver is going to go pick it up and bring it to you. I did not want food if it was already tampered with or even touched someone else's countertop. He re did the order and we waited another 45 minutes. The order was still wrong! My boyfriend called to explain our frustrations the manager accused us of keeping the food and that was our "sorry" he also said he put the order in just like "the lady said" my boyfriend told him I was sitting here and heard the entire order. He hung up on my boyfriend. I called he said what do you want me to do? There was not one apology from this "owner" I told him I gave the food back to the driver his accusation was wrong. He said he didn't have time and hung up on me. We didn't want anything for free just an acknowledgement and apology. Not one apology. read more

In this day and age, masks and gloves should be the norm in food service. I phone ordered two pizzas for guests at the house. When I walked in to pick them up, none of the front staff, cooks or prep had neither masks or gloves. Yes, it is discretionary to wear masks and gloves, but if FOOD service does not make an effort to be safe for their customers, I diplomatically choose to move on to another establishment. Good grief, at least make an effort as a courtesy for customers, who make an altruistic effort to wear PPE/masks for public exposure to COVID-19. Unfortunately, I cancelled the order. read more
