The grounds of the resort are wonderful, beautiful, and lush. Attended a wedding in October and it was absolutely stunning. The rooms in building 6 and 7 had been upgraded and were nice, the beds were comfortable, but the a/c wasn't impressive and didn't work great. This place is nothing like the pictures online. It's a complete DUMP. We paid for a fairway view room and our view is of 2 bushes. Room on check in was dirty with obvious damage to the bureau from the fridge moisture cracking the cheaply made press board and spiders at check in. A/c and fridge never quite got cold. Ice machine was broken, caked in dirt is on the walls, carpet was dirty, no mini bar, it looks like a depressing motel, nothing like its pics online. It smelled like smoke and mildew on check in. The front desk guy said there are no fairway views and they simply can't do anything for us. Ok. Super. The only pluses were availability last minute and pet friendliness. However the extra $50 a night deposit isn't worth this. I feel like I'm in a dingy motel on sunset boulevard in the 70's. Think rustic and adjust your expectations for much lower. I'm actually legitimately worried about my car parked outside. read more

Stayed here very recently and this review is just for the resort/hotel/food as I did not golf though my 19 year old son did play 18 holes during a charity tournament and thought the course was just ok. The resort is older and has more of a camping/cabin/outdoorsy feel to it but our room was nicely remodeled and very modern. However, the slider door to the outside patio was not working correctly, the lock was broken and the fixed part of the slider window had a large gap in it that let in wind and bugs. There were also lots of ants. If you leave any food out, you will attract the ants in short order. No bueno! Also, the pool was shut down. The bed was very nice, as was the shower/bathroom. Everything was clean. Nice big TV and large mini-fridge. Fancy coffee-maker. No room service, you have to go pick up your food. The on-site restaurant has good food, though it's a bit expensive. On site snack shack also was good for breakfast. Staff was friendly/helpful, no problems there. They allow dogs but charge a $75 extra fee for that. Plenty of parking. read more

My husband and I got married here and it was absolutely beautiful. The venue is gorgeous and looks just like the photos. There are plenty of beautiful backdrops for taking photos. We had our ceremony in the garden pavilion and it was absolutely magical. The food and service was excellent, and the whole event ran extremely smoothly. Our on-site coordinator Traillan was extremely lovely to work with. She was very responsive to any questions we had as well as accommodating to any requests we wanted. Beautiful parkland style golf course. Tee boxes could still use some work but fairways were pure with tight lies. Greens were perfect and rolling very fast. Staff at the pro shop went above and beyond for my friend and I to make our day extra great. Will definitely be returning and I highly recommend giving it a try. read more

Hello fellow golf Yelpers! This review is for my golf experience. Plenty of parking, good facilities and awesome customer service. Reasonable green fees that included the cart. Challenging course layout, especially for a hacker like me. Greens were fast and slick! In fact, I never left a putt short of the hole. It's just that; my ball never went in the hole. Truth be told, I think my golf ball was not perfectly round. I'm serious, the ball was no good ... I think. ;) **Alert** Lots of sand traps! It was cool and overcast but I should've brought suntan oil because my ball always seemed to find every sand trap (a.k.a., the beach) on every hole ... Dumb ball. :( Gotta say tho, for being dumb, (the golf ball, not me) I was able to complete 18 holes without losing it. Maybe it wasn't the dumb golf ball after all ... I need "New" clubs! :) How was the pace of play you ask?? My tee time was at 12:15p on this beautiful MLK Jr. holiday and our 4some was finished by 4p. Would've been done sooner but one of the guys in our foursome kept hitting into the shrubs and sand. This review is for Pala Mesa as a Wedding Venue: In short, Beautiful Venue, Great Service, and Amazing Value. 2020 has not been an easy year for the wedding industry, for couples, venues, and vendors alike. Our original wedding was planned for 8.29.20. However, closer to this point, weddings were not allowed. Pala Mesa was friendly and flexible in helping us postpone to 10.10.2020. We got the pleasure of working with Luciana at Pala Mesa throughout the whole process. Luciana was very communicative, helpful, and creative with solutions to the new unchartered territory of wedding planning circumstances. Because this was all new planning territory, there were a few bumps in the road as expected while we both tried to figure things out on how to accommodate for COVID restrictions and city orders. Both us as the clients and Luciana with the venue had to make certain concessions and compromises to make it work fairly, but with Luciana we were able to do so amicably and professionally, and in a way were both parties were happy. And I'd also like to add that I'm not exactly an easy client to work with as I do have many questions, more than most, and Luciana was quite patient with me throughout the whole process and answered every single one of my 1,000 questions. Now, onto the result: The wedding was ABSOLTUTELY PERFECT! On the Big Day, both Luciana and another Pala Mesa representative named Tania were on-site , dressed to impress, making sure everything was up to par and good to go. They took care of all details that may have been overlooked by myself and the coordinator, and even pulled a few more stops and upgrades for us on the day of, details that made our wedding even more beautiful! The Ceremony at Garden Pavilion was dreamy with our harpist and floral decorations. While the original reception was supposed to be up at the beautiful Cliff Terrace, we had to instead change it to a dinner reservation down at the Aqua Terra Patio, the hotel's restaurant, due to receptions currently not being allowed per the latest health order. This is where Luciana's resourcefulness and creativity and Tania's attention to detail really shined. The team dressed up the patio super nice with linens and centerpieces and charger plates, set out all the wedding favors and guest place cards on the tables, arranged the guestbook and gift table in a perfect spot by the patio entrance, arranged a cake table in a perfect spot by the pond, and even placed their recommended live musician in a perfect spot by the firepit for everyone to enjoy from a safe distance. The food exceeded our expectations, many guests commented on how good the food was. The live music was absolutely delightful, we also got many compliments from guests on that. And the service was great too, very attentive servers. One server even bought the groom a drink! How sweet! Honestly, even though we were not able to host a reception with a DJ and dancing as originally planned up at the Cliff Terrace Tent, the dinner at Aqua Terra was so classy, beautiful and relaxing, that we don't feel any other alternative could have competed. Both the Ceremony and the Dinner were so perfect and beautiful, we are so very Happy. We would choose Pala Mesa over and over again in a heartbeat. Do yourself a favor and call Luciana and GO SEE THIS VENUE! It is gorgeous! Waterfalls and twinkle lights and ponds.... You name it. Gorgeous! On top of that, affordable! Hidden gem ! Stayed here this last Wednesday night, checked in super late. My coworker and I went to a concert and we were unable to make it back to where we live without driving all night, saw this place online, booked a room and showed up a little after midnight for a late check in. the girl working the front desk not only was super thorough and accommodating but also super friendly and made great conversation with me!! Customer service was A++ the security officer was also extremely nice and so warm! The room was gorgeous. The bed was so comfortable, I accidentally ended up oversleeping! The course was in decent shape, but, the course superintendent has installed electronic leashes on the golf carts, and restricted them to cart paths only. This meant long walks to your ball, check the distance, long walks back to select clubs, hit the ball, and do it all over again. For senior citizens such as myself, this was a serious pain. Also, we teed off as a four some, and behind is were at least 6 singles, which we had to stop, and let go past us, as a courtesy. Our game took over 5 hours, even though we were playing two man teams of best ball! My golf partners and I vowed never to play this course again! read more

One star is actually generous for the wedding services at Pala. Although the location itself is beautiful, unfortunately the wedding services are not organized nor on top of their game. First, on more than one occasion the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom were confused by Pala staff, and their respective credit cards mixed up (their names are not even remotely similar). The final invoice we received prior to the wedding had numerous errors which cost us time and energy at the last minute to fix. Rooms were promised to our wedding party, but then later we were told no rooms were available as they overbooked the resort for other parties that weekend. Our rehearsal schedule the day before the wedding was changed by Pala staff without consulting us in order to accommodate their other events booked well after we had secured our dates. We had to push back on this since we had out of state guests that could not arrive in time for their altered timeline. On the day of the wedding, the air conditioning in the bridal suite shut off late in the afternoon after all of the ladies had finished hair and makeup. It was even hotter outside so there was no good remedy for this. During the cocktail hour, I saw one guest order a coke from the bartender and he handed the person a cup with ice and the bottle of Coke instead of opening the bottle and pouring it into the cup. Not a huge thing, but just a glimpse of the shabby level of service provided. The dinner entrees at the reception were served 30 minutes after the salads were served. The chicken and steak weren't warm any longer and were also overcooked. After the wedding, we had to collect all of our memorabilia late in the evening after the reception, and items and a couple of items were misplaced. Granted, these were our responsibility to keep track of, but when we requested help in locating the missing items in the days following the wedding, the Pala wedding staff were more concerned with emphasizing that this was not their responsibility rather than offering to lend a hand to take a second look for the items. We would not recommend Pala for wedding services. The people who we dealt with were Sarah Raymer and Melissa Obeck. The way they handled these various matters demonstrated subpar customer service and a lack of concern for overall customer experience. read more

We had our women's retreat here this year. The facility itself was in a nice location off the 15. The staff were very accommodating and the food provided was excellent. It was so calming and there were so many amenities. Great little place to get away. We were also blessed with seeing some beautiful weddings take place. Great venue, overall! read more

The course had a major upgrade and is in great shape, lush and green with new sand in the bunkers. They're offering a $49 rate after 3:00 thru July, and I hope others try it so it is continued. The course plays long so if you're between two tee ratings I'd suggest the shorter option. Its a very interesting layout and challenging, but is laid out so there's no huge distances between holes. Carts are included but it is walkable - I did so a few years ago, but not now at 80! read more

Truly enjoyed our short stay. My daughter got married at the Grand Tradition Estate in Fallbrook and we wanted something nearby. The hotel was clean and it was quite. Only setback is if their restaurant is closed you need to Uber eats which can be pricey or stop somewhere before you head back to the hotel. I'd definitely recommend this stay! read more

This is our 3rd night here. Rooms are alittle outdated but clean and roomy plus they are remodeling and updating. ( I heard Hilton bought the place. ) Kind of reminds me of the rooms in big bear with very nice views Our daughters wedding was here yesterday. Everything was exceptional. The staff was friendly and more than willing to assist us throughout the process. The wedding ceremony was absolutely beautiful , the surrounding waterfalls and lush gardens were the perfect setting. The reception was a blast ! I strongly recommend this place for weddings, golf or just friendly get togethers. We had a very large group each visit to the restaurant, and the service was excellent. I booked the location and my only criteria was I was looking for a pool. It was closed. I understand that sometimes these things happen due to maintenance but I was told by multiple employees that it was open. My kids swam in the pool and got very sick. I noticed the poorly placed sign as we were leaving. Management won't return my calls after multiple attempts. We checked out early and I'm still waiting for my partial refund that was promised. I was hoping for a full refund due to the inconvenience of having to take my kids to urgent care but they refused and have made zero attempts to rectify the issue. read more

San Diego County boasts numerous golf courses, all of which surpass this particular one in every aspect, even the 3 Par courses. The website leaves much to be desired, providing little useful information. As for the course itself, it is in a sorry state--damaged, parched, and lacking proper maintenance. While it may present a challenge, it does so for all the wrong reasons. The price they demand is certainly not justified. The course, along with its restaurant and resort, desperately requires new leadership or perhaps should be metaphorically "burned down," as it appears the owners have little regard for their upkeep. read more

Workers here are absolutely terrible. We saw a golf worker (Chris) taking pictures of other workers and people. (Not an official photographer for no special event) It felt creepy and disgusting. They were under construction so parking was a pain and not able to park near room. The price for the restaurant was a little high for the basic food. The rooms are generic and beds are hard, woke up with a back ache that lasted for a few days. I do t like a barn door for the bathroom. Seems like you hear more than usual. The Pala Mesa resort is a fine wedding venue but clearly tired and outdated. The room rate is relatively low and the location is fairly convenient--less than an hour from the San Diego airport. The resort has a golf course that runs through it. I do not golf but it looks nice. There was lots of elderly people in golf carts driving around. I was surprisingly pleased with the restaurant. The lunch was good and the breakfast buffet included an make your own omelet option. The wedding venue had a nice backdrop for wedding ceremonies with a water feature behind a large gazebo. The gazebo even had a bell that couples are supposed to ring after they get married--cheesy but cute. To the side was space for a large tent to have the dinner after the wedding ceremony. Everything is within walking distance. Service from the staff was also good and attentive. The main negative is that the Pala Mesa looks old. The parking lot concrete is cracked and looks like it has not been paved in 20 years. The rooms look dated and there is clear signs on the walk ways where the floor is chipped or paint is cracked. The inside of the rooms look like any Motel 6 I have ever been to. The resort has a clear 1970s feel to it. It seems like Pala Masa puts it effort into the wedding business and ignores the hotel side. read more

My husband and I attended a CMYE: Dancing with Our Stars. We like to attend at least four charity events per year and it was fun to get out and support our local CM! At this event, we participated in the silent auction for a "Full Dining Membership"to Aquaterra Restaurant at Pala Mesa Resort and we won! We took home a bottle of wine and a $139 dining membership for two, which includes 25% off regular dining and 50% off on Mondays! We also get one free dinner for two, two rounds of golf and an appetizer party! Not a bad deal for a $ 45 bid! One of our favorite things about the Pala Mesa Resort property is that it is dog friendly! We like to take our fur babe out wherever he can go! The staff all greeted him and pet him! Every single person he came in contact with! The other thing that stands out is how pretty the grounds are. Palm trees, grape vines, old pines and wild flowers are all present! If we stayed for the day you would find me by the pool, which looks totally private and relaxing! I got married here in September 2012. The grounds are beautiful. The ceremony site was perfect. I got an awe feeling when I walked up the stairs which is part of the reason why we picked it. Some cons are that the rooms are a bit outdated, the cooks messed up our dinner salad on our wedding night, and our wedding coordinator that the resort provides changed half way through our process. All in all, a pretty mediocre round of golf. From the start it was all a bit odd and haphazard. A single teed off in front of us, even though we were playing as a threesome. Behind us were a twosome who eventually played through! Beyond the odd time management, the course was in pretty rough shape. Each fairway looked like a crime scene with a half dozen painted outlines of ground under repair. Greens were marginally better, but tee boxes were just wrecked across the board. For the $80 greens fee, you could play just about anywhere else with better course conditions. Can't say I'd consider going back... read more

For the price and location, we really expected a "resort" not an old and outdated room. The resort is in dire need of a remodel. The bathroom had chipped paint, cracked counter top, peeling wallpaper, and the bathtub had been deglazed and had peeling paint. What made matters more unpleasant was the stream of ants on the bathroom counter. The curtains in the room did not full close and every time a car drove by, we had light shoot across the room. It was difficult enough to sleep with beams of light then add the noise of the refrigerator that was so loud we thought it was ready for take off. I would not recommend staying here and would suggest Pechanga where we stayed on our last visit to the area. read more

Very unfriendly front desk staff. Extremely uncooperative at check-in. Terrible first impression. Also at the time of booking i had asked if they have a pool, they failed to inform poolmis closed for renovation!! Rooms are renovated nicely, however the grounds and buildings are dated and worn out. Definately in need of a face-lift. Regular staff for housekeeping and pro shop and Cafe are very nice and accomodating. There's freeway noise which isn't in anyone's control. I don't recommend staying here unless you have to stay here, like I was for a wedding. read more

Unfortunately this wasn't a great golf experience. At check-in the person behind the counter had issues with our payment and blamed other systems versus just giving us a good customer service experience. The starter really didn't know how to manage tee times and groups. As other reviewers have mentioned, they sent off singles sandwiched in between groups of 3somes. It would have been much better if they just paired them up, even during COVID times it's fine. Golf is a sport where you don't have to get within 6 ft of your playing partners - esp when they are walking. The course conditions are less than desirable right now in our SoCal 'winter' time. I played this golf course and was disappointed. Course conditions are suspect at best. The driving range is in rough shape and the course itself has seen better days. The back 9 is in better condition than the front 9 but even that 9 is marginal at best. The one aspect of the course that was in decent shape are the greens. It's apparent that any money spent on this golf course is spent on the greens. Pictures that show up showing lush conditions are obviously outdated. This course has a lot of potential and is a great layout. Unfortunately the neglect is pretty apparent and has taken a toll on the golf course. Some people may say you can expect these conditions based on what you pay. I would disagree, as I played a golf course 20 minutes from this course that cost me about $20 more and that course was phenomenal. There are other options in the area. If all you want to do is hack around and don't care about mediocre conditions, this is your course. Otherwise save yourself the disappointment and go elsewhere. This course needs a lot of work and has the potential to be a great track. read more

Thats because the fairway has little to no grass. To top it off the pro shop workers are rude. The worker looked like a strung out meth head. Pale whit face with red rings around his eyes. Sorry for actually making you work a bit today. If I never play pala mesa again it will be too soon. So many other options out there. read more
