This is a cute property right off Lake Buchanan. The property has a fishing pier with three poach swings and is lit up at night as well. There's a lounge area, that might have been a swim area but the lake was extremely low when we visited, so I'm not sure. There a patio with a grill, fish fry and smoker for guest to use and some hammocks. I think they used to rent kayaks and stuff but the owner said they were damaged in a recent storm, and there is a boat ramp. The rooms are spacious, with a kitchenette, and very clean. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked great in the unit. The shower is small and had no hot water, which was barely tolerable was we did not visit when it was hot outside. Also lake gnats. They are everywhere and while completely harmless, they do get in your room even when you are careful. In the back is a long, open patio area with chairs and grills that can be used. This is a shared space with your neighbors. It's definitely a place to go and relax for a few days. It would be good for fishing, lake activities and reading. The owner was very nice and communicative. Although I saw in another review that this place was pet friendly, and that is NOT true. There are sign's everywhere that say no pets and there's extra fees if they stay with you. read more

Glenda wanted a little peace and quiet on our 34th anniversary. And here's what she got! PSI is a really neat little place. First, it's gated, so only guests staying at the inn are there. All the regular rooms are in one long building. That means everyone has the same back patio, which I didn't like. Whether your just relaxing, or cooking on the included grill, it puts your neighbors too close to you. But what a view of the sunset! The swimming area is a little small if a lot of people are there, but just great when it's not crowded. The rooms are very basic, but have everything you need. Beds were soft and the A/C worked like a champ. I booked Saturday and Sunday nights, so the second day we were the only ones there. Peace and quiet! We swam. We fished. Well, actually we just fed the fish, cause we sure didn't catch any. There was an automatic fish feeder on the dock. When it went off in the dark, it scared the s**t out of Glenda. I laughed so hard! At night, they fired up the fire pit, which was really nice. There is a container in the frig which had stuff to make s'mores If you want to. We just kicked back and relaxed. After 34 years with me, you need a little relaxation! We took walks around the neighborhood. There were deer everywhere! And some friendly. This is a very nice place if your looking for a weekend retreat. I thought it was a little pricy, but everywhere has gone in that direction. Pay up buddy! By the way, it's right across the cove from the Vanishing Texas River Cruise, which we definitely enjoyed. read more

My wife and I visited over the Bluebonnet Festival weekend. What a very nice this derstination turned out to be. Located in a forested area, the room had a very good view of Lake Buchanan which allowed a panaramic view of a great sunset. The room was plain (rustic) but extreanly clean. It was as advertised with furnished kitchen with all utensels provided. We had conversations with Tim, the innkeeper who returned our calls promptly and was very much invested in our having a good stay. My sister and I stayed here as a last minute weekend get away and we both loved it. It was extremely peaceful, tidy, and the grounds were well kept. Most importantly, dog friendly! My sister and I both brought a dog each and they loved it. The owner Denise was lovely! We drove in Friday after work from Austin. Got there in time to watch the sunset. There's a reason it's called Painted Sky Inn! Each room has a little box in the fridge of S'mores stuff for a small extra fee and there's supposedly a fire every night, was both nights we stayed there and we used it to make S'mores. There as filtered water in the fridge and Denise did tell us we could have more if needed. Not a lot of food close by so we brought our own food for the weekend. We used the stovetop and all the plates and pans to make meals. Saturday we rented some kayaks and kayaked to the small island in the middle of the lake and did some swimming. Came back and spent some time in the hammocks, did some reading, and even swam a little right off the back of our room. We don't fish much ourselves but definitely an inn made for fishing and saw quite a few people doing so. Sunday we checked out and made it out to Inks Lake State Park for a little hike and swim, it's a short drive from the inn! All in all was a good weekend getaway and we plan on going back. read more

This was the best place I've stayed in a long time! I can't say enough good things about this place! Went for a last minute getaway right as Spring is starting. Amazing weather to go with their awesome views. Literally not a bad view no matter where you are on the property. Rooms were very clean and functional. Door out to the patio was great with the dog and to enjoy morning coffee by just stepping outside. Rooms have everything but an overnight (microwave, toaster, 2-burner stove, fridge/freezer). Fridge has $3 s'mores package (makes 4 s'mores + extra marshmallows) inside which is a must by the fire, which they have every night in good weather. There are grills for each room on the open patio area. Great for grilling as you watch the sunset. Ample seating all around if you prefer to sip on something and watch the sunset. Very quiet place which was delightful. Also plenty of places to sit and relax to enjoy the scenery - fishing dock, hammocks, covered shaded patio, patio away from the rooms, and chairs right outside your room. We loved our visit and can't wait to go back again soon! Oh, we didn't make use them this trip but kayak/canoe/paddle board rentals for $15/hour. read more

First time visiting the area and we shared the deck suite with some friends. There was a lot of wiping down/disinfecting dirty countertops. Don't get me started on the remote control. I went through 3 wipes and it was still beyond grimy. The deck is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Old, splintery, and warped. They really need to replace that ASAP because the view from the deck is outstanding. Also needed is an umbrella for the outside dining. The sun is blasting most of the day from that vantage point. Last but not least the "s'mores". In the refrigerator there is a Tupperware containing a chocolate bar, couple of graham crackers and marshmallows. $5. This place is on air b&b. Normally guests are greeted with an offering, something nice to start the trip. Nope. We ate the "s'mores" thinking we would get an email for incidentals. Instead I got an invoice charging me for "stealing" them. Ha! Was I supposed to leave a dirty $5 bill in the throws of a pandemic? Not sure how that was supposed work but it played out very tacky. If you want to be a place on air b&b you should try a little harder. read more

The inn is situated on a lake that is, sadly, 33 feet low due to the extended drought. They still have enough water for canoeing and fishing. The rooms are freshly remodeled and clean. The beds are comfortable, which is important when you have had a busy day traveling or exploring. The rooms come with kitchenettes and the basics for cooking, and a grill behind each room facing the lake and the beautiful view of the lake and hills. Burnet, Texas is close for grocery shopping. If you want a cozy retreat with a lovely view you should stay here. read more

I've used Yelp for 5 years and never felt the need to actually write a review. We enjoyed our time at PSI so much that I figured I should write a review to express what a good time we had. I grew up striper fishing on lake Buchanan at least three times a year with my dad so I remember the good ol' days before the drought. Although it is sad to see how low the lake has gotten in the last ten years you still get a great waterfront view from all of the rooms at PSI. The balcony/patios of all the rooms face west so you get a GREAT view of the sunset. The owner Denise was so friendly and accommodating. She even leaves little s'more kits in the fridge for the guests. We were able to walk right down to the water for a swim/float. We also caught a couple fish from the bank. PSI is also a great location as you are only about 20 minutes from Inks lake state park and Longhorn Caverns which are also awesome places to spend a day. Between the affordable price and the short drive from Austin it is the perfect spot for a weekend getaway. I highly recommend PSI if you're planning a trip to the area! read more

We stayed at the lake side deck suite a couple of weeks ago with some friends. It was a pretty disappointing weekend getaway. First, the pictures are deceiving. The place is rundown and the room was dirty when we checked in. We had to rewash most of the dishes and cookware. The deck was a nightmare. The boards were rotted and warped. We had children with us that we couldn't even let out there because we were worried they would get splinters or catch themselves on a rusted nail. The gas grill on our private deck wasn't fully functioning which meant we either had to cook our food inside on the electric burners or outside on the community grill- neither of which were clean. All the community trash cans were overflowing by the end of the weekend attracting flies and bees. The "bay" area where we were told we could swim is very small, probably 600 square feet which is shared will all the other guests and people who have set up in the little RV park adjacent to the Inn. It gets crowded quick so not ideal if you're trying to social distance or have any privacy. Finally, the beds were very uncomfortable. Hard, cheap mattresses with grimy sheets. We definitely won't be booking this place again. read more

This place is everything I wanted and then some for a quiet getaway! With it too hot to go camping and with flesh eating bacteria on the coast, we wanted a small retreat on the lake and found it here. This place is awesome! It's fairly inexpensive, they give you everything that you need minus food and drink, and the views are amazing! Super nice staff and just overall fantastic! The first thing you notice driving out to PSI is the amazing scenery -- this is the Texas Hill Country at its best. The hotel is within easy driving distance of Canyon of the Eagles (according to the maps I looked at, it might be within kayaking distance as well -- if you're more adventurous than I am, at any rate!). In less drought-stricken times, it looks like the lake comes up very close to the hotel, but even with the water levels as low as they are, getting into the water for swimming, kayaking, or paddle-boarding is super easy, and the water is still high enough to fish from the pier. If you prefer your wildlife not to involve bait and hooks, there's a ton to see -- all manner of water birds, including a gorgeous heron who put on quite a show for us one night at sunset (according to the owner, he's a frequent visitor). From the porch area of my room, I was able to see countless ducks, a couple of rock squirrels, and a turtle. In addition to the amazing location, the rooms themselves are clean and cozy. The kitchen area in my room was spacious, clean, and well-stocked with dishes, utensils, etc. The refrigerator and stove are full-sized, not the chintzy dorm-room appliances you usually find in hotels. Wi-fi is provided, although it's on a hub so you might need to go to the office or deck area to use it; Dish TV is available in the rooms; the rooms open onto a long, shared "porch" area, with a sitting area for each room overlooking the lake. The property is well-tended, with several spots to sit and relax. Painted Sky Inn rents out canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards for an extremely low price; the gear is in great shape, and they were extremely helpful in getting us set up. The are immediately around the hotel is fantastic for a laid-back morning on the water. Finally, the price is absolutely unbeatable. Our room was well-priced by commuter-hotel standards; by lakefront suite standards, it was a steal. As a final note, it is worth mentioning that due to the high mineral content in the water, PSI has a water-softening system, meaning that you should bring some drinking water and be prepared for the shower to feel a little off -- definitely not a problem, just somethign to be prepared for! read more

We stayed in the single suite, #1, and were very happy. The room was nice, cool, and clean. A nice surprise was that we had very easy access to the lake via some stairs off of the back porch. Very nice spot to swim and lounge around. Flat rocks made a nice spot for our chairs in the water. The grounds are well kept and the service from the staff was great. We never wanted for anything. Personal service but left us alone. They even start a fire every night for smores and hot dogs. Awesome place, well worth the money. We wil be back. read more

This is a jewel of a place. From cleanliness, to comfort, to amenities, this place exceeds expectations. We had several rooms for a family get-together & it was just perfect. The attention to detail & comfort really shows. The kitchenettes are well-stocked with everything you need to cook meals. Each room has it's own bar-be-que grill out back. One of the most enjoyable surprises was a smores box in each refrigerator & a wonderful group fire pit that the owner lights each night, weather permitting. The owner/hostess could not be more friendly or accommodating & she made us all feel very much at home. Whether you want a romantic getaway or a retreat for friends & family, this is one of the best little independent inns that you could possibly find. I hope to get back for more visits! read more

We booked the "house" at Painted Sky on short notice and was pleasantly surprised. We arrived to a neat and CLEAN 2 bdrm, 3 bath, pet friendly, kinda retro, recently remodeled, very spacious place. The owners were friendly and helpful - they even had the fire pit going for us when we returned from dinner. Painted Sky Inn on Lake Buchanan opened in late summer 2011 after the new owner completed an extensive remodel of all rooms and updates to the entire property. We've stayed twice, the most recently July 4-7, 2012. Painted Sky Inn is located on a cove of Lake Buchanan in a quiet, private neighborhood. We had a great July 4th stay. Even with the severe drought in central Texas, Lake Buchanan has plenty of water for boating and other fun. You can walk from your room down to the water for a swim in two minutes. Lake Buchanan is also a great fishing lake (especially striped bass). The owners of Painted Sky Inn and nearby homeowners sponsored fireworks on the 4th; we were also able to bring and shoot off some of our own. We had a great time ooohing and aaahhing over the beautiful colors in the sky. Painted Sky Inn rents kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes. Their cove and another nearby cove are perfect for non-motor boating activities. This visit, we stayed in Room 11, a two-bedroom, two-bath unit -- like a small apartment with a cozy living area (and large flatscreen TV), full kitchen, and it's own private deck overlooking the water. Actually, all the units at Painted Sky Inn are lakefront. If you are looking for a peaceful, beautiful place to relax and get away from it all, this is definitely the place. read more
