My girlfriend and I have gone here a couple of times, and were pleased with the results. First, if you're looking for lessons on how to paint pottery, then this probably isn't for you. The staff is very helpful when it comes to the process, but if you want some art lessons, you need to find them elsewhere. Lucky for me, I know I have no chance of being an artist, so I just paint something random and I have a new funky looking bowl to use. For me, the hardest part is picking a piece to paint. There were a ton of options ranging from various dishes (including dog bowls), decorations, animals, piggy banks, holiday figures, tiles, etc. Prices seem to range from $7 on the very low end, to $20 or so on the higher end, with the average piece costing around $10-$12. There is an additional fee of half the cost of the piece that covers the studio time, paint, and firing. So, a $10 piece will cost $15 when your'e done with it. In my opinion, that's not a bad deal at all. For $30 or so, my girlfriend and I can get several hours of interactive entertainment out of this, and when all is said and done, we have a cool new dish or decoration that we created. As mentioned before, I'm no expert when it comes to painting, so I got exactly what I expected and it took me a couple of hours. If you choose to take a longer time, you can leave your unfinished piece there and come back at no additional cost. Typically, the people who seem to be extremely good do this. So, would I visit again? Perhaps not weekly because I don't have room for tons of random ceramics, but it's a lot of fun and something different to do every now and then. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful, and they seemed to appreciate my business. Had a great time, and didn't break the bank. My girl and I were looking for a fun activity to spend the day together. After reading some of the reviews I was nervous about giving them a chance but I am glad I did. We were immediately greeted by what I later learned was the owner as we walked in. She was very helpful and answered all of our questions and walked us through all that we needed to know to get started. The price is very reasonable and their selection was vast with items for the beginner all the way to advanced items for experts. I can honestly say I am a fan and we will be back again. And as for those bad reviews. From what I understand most of the issue was with the previous owner. From what I can tell the new owner is a real small business gem. read more

went here one rainy weekend just for something fun and random to do. the person working that day tried to be helpful but seemed to be a stand off personality type so did not really assist in the explaining department. after choosing what to paint, i discovered that this place has many tools and paint colors to allow you to do pretty much anything with your piece. this also adds to confusion for those of us who walk in having little to no idea what to paint or how to paint it. overall, its a pretty fun thing to do every once in a while, especially on a rainy weekend when you cant exactly frolic through a park. just be aware that in addition to the price of the piece, you pay 50% of that price in studio fees. there are other places out there that do not charge this additional fee, so if you're watching your money, i'd find one of those. read more

Good price and pretty good selection of items to paint - plenty of brushes, paint, stencils, etc. I like the fact that the staff leaves you alone and are not know it alls with offering too much advice. Recently I was in town with my toddler visiting my parents, so we stopped in here for a fun activity. I was very disappointed in the setup. We have a similar place near my home in Boston that's great, and as a child in FL I went to many plaster paint shops. This shop did not measure up to any of those. #1. WHY DON'T THEY HAVE APRONS?? We're using paint, we don't want it on our clothes. The response was "it's washable". Great. I still want an apron. #2. Paint set up. Most place I go to have small cups of paint with lids that are pre-filled and ready to go. This place has a wall of colored tiles with numbers on them. Then, across the shop, is the paint selection. You have to pick them by number (the colors shown on the bottles are fairly generic) and the colored tiles show you how they look after being fired. They don't even offer little cups, they just give you a little dish with divots. So you have to take the bottles to the table, squirt paint into the dish and as you paint watch as all the colors bleed together. #3. Were you hoping to take your piece home? I hope not, because they can't take the 5 minutes necessary to fire the item while you clean up. Every single other place I've gone to does it immediately. This place makes you wait a couple days, which meant I had to leave town before they were ready. $20 well spent. This place is mediocre at best. I don't know if there are other options in the area, but if there are choose another place. The people here are not helpful and it's just not worth the money. Oh, and what they don't tell you BEFORE you start is that your piece may be $10, but they have an additional charge - half the cost of your piece- to cover the paint, firing, etc. Absolutely absurd. read more

I visited Paint Your Pot with my mother and 2 daughters. I had been there before with my daughters & they loved the experience. We had a great time and the staff was very helpful. The problem was when we picked up our items on Sun, 1/4. The lady who helped me (dark hair) was so rude. I had a question about the quality of one of the items and instead of politely explaining why the piece wasn't glazed on the inside, she stared right through me, blew me off and was very short with me. Another employee, a nice young lady (blond with a nosering), overheard our conversation and offered to re-glaze the item. Newsflash: good customer service and a smile goes a long way. read more

By far the worst paint-your-own pottery place in the area. They water the paints down a ton, so doing details are virtually impossible. Their supplies are old and in bad shape. The cost cutting really ruins the experience, especially if you've ever painted anywhere else and know what it's actually supposed to be like with quality paints and supplies. The pottery pieces are stamped Made in China. It's hit or miss with the employees (the girl that helped us out when we first got there was very friendly, but then she left and the next girl was very standoff-ish and not at all helpful or friendly). We won't return. Much better experience and way more fun at the new place in Waverly and the place in Fuquay. read more

We really enjoy going here! Such a fun, relaxed atmosphere! We have been here for a date night, a special outing with my daughter and me, and for a small birthday party for my 13 year old. Very disappointed. This place is better suited for people needing a spot to take their children than anyone with any sort of purposeful project. I chose this spot to meet a friend for some quality girl time and crafting after reading some suggestions online. Being out-of-towners, we felt it a decent mid point. We quickly realized this was a bad choice. The setup is decent at best, fair selection of pottery and prices were ok. The paint supplies are minimal and poorly maintained. Finding a pair of scissors that could properly cut paper was even a challenge. We overlooked these things simply aiming to have a good time, however the rude, albeit young, staff really put a damper on our fun. ONE of the three girls operating the shop showed any sort of genuine interest in helping customers at all. Anything other than obtaining basic directions on how the shop operated seemed beyond them to do. Overall they seemed condescending, uninterested and unprofessional. The owner clearly was not present that day, or I would assume things to be different. After 40 minutes and 3 or 4 reminders, I finally obtained lettering for my project that I had asked to be printed out from the start. Again, overlooked. Simply put, we will not be returning to this spot again. read more

Came here when I was in town for vacation. The ladies were very helpful and the atmosphere was great. You pay one fee for the piece of pottery and then the painting costs half the amount of the piece. They have a lot of items to choose from for every budget and they get your items glazed in a timely manner. It's a perfect spot for a lazy afternoon. read more

Nice place for taking a kid or two during track-out. I like to go one day to pick out what we will paint and then go back after they have had time to think about the project. Don't get hung up about the finished project if you do this with a kid or if it is your first time. It is not a quick in and out activity. There is definitely a learning process. I have been happier with my work each time. The staff is not pushy, but when I ask, they are friendly and surprisingly knowledgeable of techniques to use. read more

I used to be a frequent customer at Paint Your Pot, but had to stop coming for a while due to work and time constraints. I have a few platters that were bought back in February, and was told I could still bring them in to paint as long as I had the original claim check and receipts. Great! I brought them in Saturday, finished one, turned it in no problem. Was told it would be ready for pick up on Thursday. This (Thursday) morning I received a call from the studio informing me that not only was my platter not ready, but I would now have to pay a studio fee on top of the one that was already paid. In the same phone call I was informed that my mother, who had her own claim check and contact information, would also have to pay a new studio fee, despite having purchased her items from the store two weekends prior. It's astounding that at this time of year when everyone is rushing to get Christmas presents done, often on a time crunch, that the store would not honor their own policies and deadlines. read more

This place is great! It has an extremely relaxed environment that makes it easy to enjoy some time alone or come with friends. One time when I was in there were children who were extremely unruly and kept coming over to me and trying to take over my piece (crazy, I know!) And the manager on duty corraled them back to their parents which I found that many places people wouldn't step in like that. read more

We are not happy with the experience there. Last week we went and were not given enough instructions to wait between the coat. Our piece came out horrible patchy, my child ended up crying. We talked with Danielle the owner and explained the entire situation in very detail. she was inconsiderate. It was such a small piece, but she refused to consider the situation. This review is solely based on booking a party and customer service. I called and booked a party over the phone and was charged a $30 deposit to hold my party date. Literally, twenty minutes later I called to ask some questions regarding details about my party and decided that this might not be the best place for us to do the party and the "manager" told me I could not have my $30 back.
