Such a fun fun place to be creative! I took my coworkers here to spend some quality time together and we had a blast picking out items and bringing them to life. You can choose whatever you want, a plate, a piggy bank, a paperweight, etc. so many items to choose from and also so many colors to choose from. A helpful tip is that you should probably paint a few layers on an item so that it doesn't become so see through when after it's done in the kiln. Also don't expect your pottery to be able take home immediately. I think it was a week when ours was ready so keep that in mind in case anyone is traveling. I arrived here around 1:35 on a Saturday afternoon for a date. I found this place by searching for things in the Apex area. You can make reservations but I did not as it was last minute. Fortunately, it was not busy and we were able to be helped immediately. Here, they have a full wall full of items that you can paint. All of which are food safe. The items vary in price but they are clearly listed. In addition to the cost of the item of choice, you'll pay a service fee that half the cost of the item ($12 max). The service fee covers the supplies utilize and the process to finalize your product. We each got an item that was $20. With the $10 service fee, it was $60+ tax. You do not leave with the product and must come back to get it. We were told ours will be ready on Thursday and I'm excited. Depending on the item you choose and how you choose to paint/decorate it, you can be there a while. We were unintentional there for 3 hours! I chose a wood grained vase, so it took time lol. I'm overjoyed to see the final product, which will be much darker in hue after the final process. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves greatly and would definitely return. The staff were so friendly. Such a cute pottery painting place! We didn't make a reservation since it was a Monday afternoon, but there was surprisingly a lot of people there. The selection of pottery was extensive! There were so many good and cute options; I wanted to paint them all! I opted for a dinner plate which was around $12, which is super worth it for the price and experience. There is a 40% painting fee attached to it, which seems high, but it makes total sense once you start painting. I used so much paint due to the repeated coatings. We walked in on an early Saturday afternoon with no reservation and despite the large volume of people we were able to be seated within a few minutes. We were greeted promptly and the pottery painting process was explained to us thoroughly. We had all of our questions answered and it was a smooth process. They have a ton of different pieces ranging from $10 to $50+ as well as a ton of paint colors and stencils. There is a studio fee that is half the price of the piece you paint. We had so much fun here! The only reason I took a star off was because I wish they had a phone with multiple lines! As it was very difficult to try and call to make a reservation with a constant busy line. Once we got in though, they quickly greet you and ask what you are there for. We get to pick off a wall of options with different prices and then you get to sit down, clean it and start your painting. It was nice because there didn't seem to be a time limit and you can take as long as you need. There were also a lot of paint options to choose from, on your table and on a stand behind us. Tl;dr: Pieces of ceramic are more expensive than expected, but lots of paint options including brushes, patterns, and tools. This place gets busy so if you are keen on going here, calling ahead and making a reservation may be your best interest. My gf and I have been able to walk in on a Friday at mid-day without much issue, but usually we get the last table that can only accommodate 2-3 people. There are a lot of options of pottery to paint, seasonal and year-round with something for everyone. We have been switching out our lightswitch plates so that's what we have been painting. There are base colors at your table, and you are able to get other paints from their collection at will. There are a lot of bottles but be kind and take only what you can use, then bring back the bottle. The pricing can be confusing. Each item is marked with its price, and the "studio fee" is half of what the item costs. For example, if the pottery costs $20, the studio fee of $10 will be added on that includes the paint and everything else. Our items were ready the following Tuesday (~4 day turnaround). Loved this place! We took our daughter and her friend here to paint for our daughters birthday. They are both 6 years old. It was very much age appropriate and staff worked well with them and helped explain everything to them. We all had a blast and made lots of memories. My only complaint is that the bathroom was very messy. Although, not the businesses fault but the other customers not being courteous. There is a wide selection of things to paint, however due to our budget, we limited the kids to the small items that cost $6.50 a piece. The staff was excellent, very patient getting the kids all set up and ready to paint. We brought over thirty kids to this little place, so their patience was much appreciated. They do not teach you anything about painting, just let you do your thing, so if you are looking for lessons or help on how to do it, this is not the place to go. We were not interested in the kids making masterpieces, just getting to paint something and take it home, so it was perfect for us. You do not get your pot the same day you paint it, because they have to put it through the kin and fire it into that nice glaze. They have a large selection of ceramics; ranging in use, simplicity levels, and size. I chose a perfect flower pot (actual title) and with the supply charge, it cost around $26. They have a good paint selection (also, it's paint so mixing means the choices are endless). The staff was very friendly and will give instruction. The whole experience was not only fun but relaxing. From an adult's experience, and a bit of a clumsy one at that, I came out of there with not a speck of paint on me. There was really not much water involved which is what I attribute it to. Your visit will require a return trip. After you are finished painting, they will glaze and fire your piece and you will need to go back in about 5 days to pick up your masterpiece. Took the grandchildren there to do a project for fathers day. Poor selection of pottery. Employee kept disappearing so there was no one to answer questions or help with paints. After completing the pieces which were expensive we had to wait to find the attendant(again) who had disappeared to the back of the shop. It took almost as long to cash out as it did to paint the items. Went back on designated day to pick up pieces and again no one was in the front helping customers. As a result one perspective customer left and I just found my paid items on shelf. There was a small crack on the lip of one of the cups but I knew I would not get any results to report it. I have been to Paint Your Pot three times over 8 years of time. Each time I've gone has been progressively worse. The last time I was there, there wasn't an adult to be found. The teens working the store were not too concerned with questions anyone had, and half the questions couldn't be answered. It was all a do-it-yourself project in all respects. I couldn't even find a kid to pay for the stuff we did. The selection has gone way down since the last time I visited and the prices have increased like in so many places. It costs $5+ per piece to fire it after you pay the cost to buy it. It ends up being a good sized bill for three people, with absolutely no help in how to paint the pot (per se). The last time when it came time to pick up my painted and fired pieces, we arrived after the time they said to arrive and they were still in the kiln. It was going to be at least another half hour before they were ready. We waited. The items were so hot that we could hardly package them up. My advice is to pick your stuff up the next day AFTER they say to pick it up. I was impressed the first time I visited. There was an adult present who explained the whole process. The second time I had a party there and it was ok, although they pretty much ignored us the whole time. This last time was just over the top. I won't be going back there until an adult is working the counter again. These kids couldn't care less about anything but charging your credit card, like other child party/entertainment establishments around Cary. read more

There are books to help and some examples around the store. The suggested time is 2 hours, it took us 4 and I still felt like I could have taken much longer but the weather was starting to get bad and I needed to get home to study. Overall, I was happy with my pottery but the customer service is pretty hands off. I think if I hadn't done this kind of thing before that I would have been a little more upset. Tons of colors and pieces to pick from, the total price is the price of the piece plus half of that for "studio fees'. Its a little pricey but you get a cool piece of artwork that you did yourself and the clear glaze looks pretty slick. I was turned off from the very beginning when I was told that the track out discount advertised on their website wouldn't be honored because traditional is also out. My children are on track 4 and are tracked out, so I don't see what traditional being out has to do with with the "track out" discount. Seems like false advertising to me. I would have left and come back next week to get the discount but my 6 year started crying and I was stuck. Don't advertise discounts to get people in the door and not honor them when they arrive with their excited young children. It's cruel. My daughter attended the summer camp and enjoyed herself. We were given a slip that stated when she could pick up her items. Well we picked them up but then I received a call afterwards that they had not given us all of her items. They told us we could pick them up at our convenience. As a local, I've tried all of the "Create Your Own" artwork/pottery joints and this one is by far my family's favorite. We've always made beautiful keepsakes, including the cement animals my daughters all love and tiles my sons have made which we've featured in the backsplash in our kitchen. The owner is awesome, the figurine selection is wide, and I've had no problem whatsoever with the paint variety or quality.
