When I arrived, I was warmly greeted by the staff, one of them I believe was named May, and she was incredibly sweet. Everyone was welcoming and gave clear directions to head to the back for the class. Once I got there, the owner was leading the session and greeted me right away. My best friend had arrived earlier and saved us seats close to the instructor, which made the experience even better. The owner was so patient, kind, and attentive throughout the class. The class itself was very beginner-friendly and easy to follow. She walked us through each step, making sure everyone felt comfortable and confident. It was such a fun and relaxing experience. Klaystation is a busy place and has expanded into a neighboring space since my last visit and now has a room for private events like birthday parties. When you enter, you are asked to wash the oils off your hands so you can browse and select the piece you'd like to paint. The pieces are in all sizes and price ranges. I liked that the sink was automatic as was the soap and paper towel machine. Then a booklet with glaze colors was brought to the table and we were given ideas on how to paint from using sponges to paint brushes to glazes with sparkles to another with rocks that will explode into color bursts in the kiln. There is also an area where you can see the colors on tiles to get a better idea of what it will look like. I found that more helpful than the booklet. Templates are not being used at the moment because of covid protocols but will be brought back at some point. The staff is friendly and helpful and will bring you more paint as needed or just provide suggestions. read more

We took a Friday night ceramics class! We used a hand-building technique to make coffee mugs. It was an excellent class for beginners. Very easy to have fun and very hard to make mistakes. The teachers walk you through stamping your clay, building the mug, and adding a handle. You then get to pick out one glaze color. In 3 weeks, your creation will be ready for pickup. The parking is so easy. Lots of great restaurants in the area. Make it a date night! The class is terrific for beginners. My husband made a big crack mid-class and had to start over. The teachers were great at catching him up--zero judgments on skill level. The class is limiting if you've already taken hand-building and want to learn more techniques. The teachers didn't allow for a lot of creative exploration. I imagine due to the volume of the product and wanting it to be a coffee mug doesn't allow for a lot of out-of-the-box thinking. The slabs are pre-rolled and ready for decorating. Not much room for learning techniques. We were told no to 3D building and cutouts. read more

this is one of my go to places to spend time with my grandkids and other children I care for. It's such a nice atmosphere with staff who check in, give advice when asked and Are friendly. The kids take pride and ownership of their work and the colors they choose. I usually take a before and after (kiln) pics so they can see the change firing makes . I've always been in awe of the way a potter's wheel works, and I've wanted to try it since I was a little girl. I finally did it, and I had a fantastic time! My instructor, Katie (Katy?) was terrific and walked me through the process with very clear instructions. She was very patient and answered all my questions - some before I even asked them! I ended up with a cup and a yarn bowl, and I can't wait to see them glazed. This is not something you can become an expert at in one session, and I knew that going in. I had zero experience, but somehow I wound up with two pieces that were keepers! It's a very relaxing craft. Watching the clay take shape under my hands was mesmerizing and very calming. Missed my class because I got the dates wrong (was supposed to be the 7th, but I thought it was the 9th), and while i know that was a mistake on my part, they were not willing to work with me. I did not receive any reminder notifications that my class was coming up, and only got an email the day after the class was done. I've called multiple days to try to rebook it, but was told I'd have to pay the full price again. This place is NOT for kids - even though the exterior and interior are really fun looking and arty, and they have several pottery selections that would appeal to kids - klaystation is not for kids under 10. The smallest item is a 2.5 inch egg for $6 or a square tile for $8. Most of the kid items like mini figurines were between $14 and $25. We did a butter dish, a coaster and a mini owl for $58. If you have 2 or more kids - you aren't getting out of there for less than $50. But then again - the items are cute. The pottery assistant was very nice and helpful with color selections and techniques but my 8,7, and 5 year old made her nervous and jumpy. She kept an eye on them and kept asking them to back away from the pottery shelves when she felt like they were getting too close. This made me a little tense and not really able to enjoy the painting like I would if I were on my own. I can't imagine what a kids party would be like there - seems like things would be really tense. I'm rating it lower just because I thought it would be more fun for me and the kids, and it wasn't. We had a private space in the back and Fred and his assistant were helpful in how to paint the ceramics as well as some cool tips and ideas. They have a refrigerator back there as well for the cake and drinks. Came to Klaystation for an outing with the young adults at my church and we had an excellent time!! It was something different to do and we are really glad that we did it. The staff were very attentive and were hands on with helping you make your vision come to life. We had a couple of artists in our group that didn't need a any help and they were good with not bothering them. They have a ton of colors and even have lace and other things to give your art texture. I haven't received my piece yet so I will add a picture once I do. I will say that the pieces themselves are bit expensive. We had a $20 limit and we did have a bit of a hard time finding something we actually wanted. read more

I've been trying to find a decent Paint-Your-Own Pottery place and this seemed like a good bet. Well, I was mistaken. The lady that helped me in-store was an older gal and was extremely rude. Thank goodness I've done this before because I don't think she would have helped me at all. I tried doing one of the 'specialty' paints they have and she barely explained to me how it worked and I apparently did it incorrectly, but it didn't turn out quite right. If it was user error, I completely understand, but I feel like if I had asked for her help, should would have snapped at me or talked to me like I was an idiot. When I picked up my painting, I told the lady (who was a different gal, younger and a lot nicer), that I had received my email saying it was done about 2 days ago. We ended up having to search for it and I got out of there as soon as I could. The only nice thing about this place is that there is no studio fee. The price you pay for the bisque piece (which, I might add, is higher than other stores I have been to), is the price you pay plus tax, so there were no hidden fees. My fiancé and I took my 4 year old niece to paint pottery, and the experience was ok. The space is nice and there are plenty of ceramics to choose from, however it is outrageously expensive. I have painted pottery many times before and I have never spend more than 12-15$ on a mug. The mug I painted was $26 and the Minnie Mouse figurine my niece painted was $34. Klaystation is so much fun! I've been here several times with friends. Klaystation is the only place I've ever painted pottery, so this place is my sole reference point for the activity. They have a lot of different pottery items to choose from. The way it works is you choose your piece, wash your hands, grab a sponge and wash the piece, and then find the colors you want to paint your piece. The employees are helpful in explaining this process and will even help you with design ideas if you ask. For the artistically challenged (like me!), this can be helpful. :) Nearly every time I am here there is a birthday party of some kind happening, so it'd be nice if they closed the studio for private parties (particularly when there are *tons* of kids.) But when the studio is fairly empty, or void of 20+ excited kiddos, it can be a really relaxing, awesome vibe for adults, perfect for catching up with friends or just having a creative day. Although I don't have kids, I can see how this would be a great thing to do with your little ones, too. Some pieces are priced pretty expensive, but every time I go I end up finding the perfect piece to keep me occupied for a couple of hours without breaking the bank. read more

Also I painted a 2 part piece and 1 piece of it was misplaced or lost. After driving so far out there twice I gave up on getting/finding it. That was very disappointing. My daughter has been to art camp there this summer and had an incredible time - in fact, we signed her up for one week, and she liked it so much, she insisted we sign her up for 3 more!! If you're not looking for a camp, Klaystation is the perfect place to go spend an afternoon, either with friends or with kids, to do something creative and make something fun. Went to Klaystation as part of a Meet-Up activity for a pottery painting. I had never done anything pottery related before, and it was pretty fun! The shop is very inviting and clean. I liked the high ceiling, the clean bathroom and the wide array of pottery to choose from. It is on the pricey side however.
