This place is finally open again! We had a great time sitting at the bar and sampling the wines. The ambiance is made to be like a small French wine bar--very cozy, low lighting, and quiet. Bathrooms were clean. Food is from Pag's pub which was your standard fare. Nothing to rave about but it does pair well with wines. Our bartender was awesome. Service was quick. Will definitely have this on our rotation of places to go for a chill, quiet, slightly more upscale meal/apps. I hope the secret doesn't get out or we won't get seats soon! read more

I went tonight after dinner for a quick glass of wine with my wife. They were busy and not paying attention (they gave us a menu and we sat there for 15 minutes with not a single interaction-we barely saw any of the staff) to us so I went to the bar (we were in a little hurry because we had to pick up our son in half an hour). The person behind the bar said that we would have to wait because other people were ahead of us and they only had 2 people working. Not only did they not have enough people working the person behind the bar was rude to me and seemed to blame me for the situation. This is unacceptable. Pags rules this street with three separate venues: a pizza place, a fancier Italian restaurant, and the super-romantic wine bar we love. The front room looks like an old time train station waiting area, with its dramatic hanging lights, banquettes, and tiny tables (AND the Bridgette Bardot poster). The wine menu is heavily French and not cheap, so savor those glasses, but they will give you a taste before you invest. For example, they had a Veuve Cliquot Yellow Label open to try by the glass ($13, and a full bottle was $84). Most wine places don't have such an expensive bottle available for glasses. The last time we went, we were in the mood for rosé, having just accomplished one of life's milestones. Due to excellent recommendations from the owner, we developed a major crush on Pommery champagne, which they had as splits in two different versions, pink and blue. Oh, such a cute half-size wine bucket too. There is a full bar, not just wine, and sometimes they bring out free tapas such as kalamata olives (plus a little dish for the pits, nice touch). We have enjoyed the arugula pizza back in our ovo-lacto days, but you don't come here for the food. The building is long and narrow, so the back part is even darker and more intimate, if you need to hide out, and there is a tiny patio in front though I have never seen anyone on it. Music can be anything from classic jazz to electronica, and I don't remember any tvs, hurray. Recently, Nina Simone was playing, just perfect for our mood. My bf got into a discussion about Indian and Brazilian music with the owner, who then played some recommended Brazilian artists from his own collection for us and wrote down the names so we could hunt them down later. Great little wine bar in downtown Doylestown. We stopped in for a drink with friends ahead of dinner reservations elsewhere. The wait staff were friendly, funny and very welcoming. The wine selection is really good, though I do think their per-glass costs are just a little high, even for Doylestown. This might explain why we were the only people in the place at 5:30 on a Saturday that had ample foot traffic all over town. Pricing aside, a great little place to pop in for a great drink with friends. I'll definitely be back. read more

I really want to like this place, I really do. In theory it is great- perfect location with outdoor seating, cozy European ambiance inside, and a nice wine selection. HOWEVER, this is not the first time I have had a bad experience here, and yet I've come back several times, giving this place the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe it was just an off experience. Last night my boyfriend and I gave Pag's wine bar yet another chance. First negative experience occurred when we walked up to the outdoor patio and waited to be acknowledged by one of the servers to be seated. Twice a server walked by us standing there without even acknowledging us. I had to go out of my way to ask a server if we could sit at one of the open tables. The reply was "sure." So, we sat down and eventually ordered a glass of wine. Next, we ordered the "Cheese Plate." This "Cheese plate" came out and we both looked at each other thinking 'Is this a joke...?!' (See below picture). It consisted of a few chunks of dry cheddar probably bought from Acme and a slice of bleu cheese. There were also two hunks of butter (why?), some trail mix dried fruit and a weird pile of salad consisting of iceberg lettuce and shredded carrots which was probably added to the plate to make up for the lack of cheese. This was honestly the saddest cheese plate I've ever seen. My boyfriend flagged down the server who had never come back, and told her this was not what we were expecting the "cheese plate" to be, and to please remove it from our bill. She replied "Ok" and just took the plate away without even asking what was wrong with it or apologizing. Any good restaurant would want to know why a customer is unhappy with the food and try to make it right. Granted, it was taken off of our bill. I think this place is able to get away with such horrible service and poor food quality because they know people will keep coming back for the great location and ambiance. However, we have learned our lesson and will not be returning to this establishment because location and ambiance just cannot make up for the terrible service and joke of a cheese plate. My girl and I decided to step out on a Saturday night for a nice little romantic outing. We were both in the mood for wine and this place fit the bill. Service aside, it was a nice visit. Very tight quarters but it adds to the cozy/romantic element. Lighting was nice and there are plenty of wine bottles to gander at as well. We took a small circle table in the back along the booth and settled in. We both ordered some glasses of red (Cabernet Franc for me, Malbec for her) and put in an order for Antipasta. We waited and waited and waited and after at least 20 minutes, we asked our server for an update and he said the kitchen was slow and it should be right out. Turns out he never put the order in. We had also put in an order for a pizza and salad and so of course, everything came out at once. Not the desired timing but what can you do. Food was good. I had the Romano Pie and my girl had a chicken caesar salad. We finished our first glasses of wine and our server never came back to ask us for refills. It appeared he took on bartending duties and never informed us. We were assigned a new waitress who did eventually stop by but at that point, the mood was gone and we decided to pack it up and move on. So overall, not bad, decent food and wine, just needed our service to be a little more on point. I would come back though. read more

Our first time eating in Doylestown and we tried two places, one of which I will review here. Paganini's was our first stop and while it has a beautiful location, and atmosphere, both inside and out, it was the inside of my belly that mattered. We consider, Atmosphere, Service, Price and Portion, and taste. We were the first there Sunday and pretty much the only couple other than a couple that showed up about 5 minutes after us. Experience has told us that when trying a new place that is somewhat pricey and filled with dishes that are somewhat fancy in their titles, that you should something simple. My wife suggested the pizza, since it's Italian, but I wasn't in the mood to eat a pizza by myself and I don't think it was a small personal size, and my wife wasn't in the mood after reviewing the menu. We won't fault them for the menu or the service, mind you, but if the menu doesn't pull you in with a nice varied selection, you're tempted to leave. A compromise was made that we would share a hamburger that boasts being grass fed beef, and not spend money until we really knew if it was worth it. Burger did seem to take a bit longer than usual, particularly since we were pretty much the only people there other than another couple which backs up another reviewer who said the same about the wait while the restaurant was still not busy. I requested well done, and it arrived a little on the still red in the center side. Considering it took a little longer than usual, it should have been well done. It was $10 for the burger and the portion was similar to getting something from a cafeteria, or school lunch portion. On the small size, both in thickness and overall width. I seemed to be done with my half in less than 4 bites. The potato chips were flat, not crispy as they should for the first table of the day. I have larger, bigger burgers for $9.99that were twice the size of this (example: Cowboy burger at Keystone Pub, Bethlehem PA) and they get it right every time I go there. I can't say I'd go back to try the Italian dishes because I be afraid the portions would be on the smaller, French side. I'm not looking to pig out either, just be satisfied by eye appeal, that it appears I'm getting my money's worth and that it tastes good. Again, you be the judge. The owner of this restaurant is consistently one of the most insulting individuals we have ever encountered. He came to our table and argued that the food was prepared according to "policy" and that policy includes not serving bread with salads, but he will charge a $1 for a stale roll and refuse to take it off the bill becuse we shold have known the "policy". The food is average at best but the service and customer treatment is the worst you might ever experience. read more

We had friends in from out of town and we were desperate for a wine bar that didn't require us to dress in upscale attire, yet still had some sort of charm. I don't head up to Doylestown often (why?? I don't know!) so I found Paganini Wine Bar through Yelp. First thing I noticed was the size. It's a bit quaint (it adds to the charm!!) but it makes it difficult to find seating on a Saturday night. Luckily, there was a table in the back for our party of 4. The service was spot on and the wine selection was large. We ordered flatbread pizzas (a margarita and a garden pizza) and both were excellent. The hummus as an appetizer was tasty as well. We stayed for quite awhile sipping wine and catching up with friends. We will definitely return the next time a wine craving sets in! read more

Underrated burger alert!! Randomly came into Pag's during a stroll around Doylestown. The menu wasn't super appealing, actually, so I just went with a cheeseburger. Legitimately, one of the best cheeseburgers I've had in a while! Tasted like a quality Big Mac! Patty wasn't too thick, bun didn't overshadow the burger and whatever sauce they used - YUM. We were in the wine bar section - ambiance is really nice; def not very kid friendly (we had our son with us.) but staff was friendly and accommodating. Pag's is a great place to go for a drink. I love the bar's decor and ambiance- it's unlike anything else in the area, with it's mahogany covered walls, exposed stone and European feel. They make good drinks and martinis, have a broad selection of wines by the glass, and the servers are always more than accommodating. I've never eaten at Pag's before, but on many occasions have used it as a jumping-off point before a dinner in Doylestown. However, based on the low bar that appears to pass for "good" for most of the other restaurants in the borough as of late, I'll have to give it a try next time to see if they can do any better. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. My husband and I were strongly advised to go here for a drink due to the atmosphere and selections. When we arrived we were not spoken to as the two bartenders were arguing over workload. A third server came in to get our drinks, who seemed to be a little more customer service conscience. Or so we thought, I was not pleased with the drink that was made for me and apologized before asking for a different drink. When the bill came the bartender informed us that she should have charged us for the poorly tasted tequila drink, but she didn't. This establishment is more of a bar than restaurant and the staff are usually very nice and helpful. There are good wines on offer and the location is great. The food offerings are so so and they could improve the small plate appetizers (e.g. the cheese plate). My main complaints however, are the small wine glasses that do not help with the appreciation of the wine, and the seating, which is mostly uncomfortable. The owners have not spent a dime on this place in many years, which is a shame, because it has a lot going for it otherwise. terrible experience at the bar after having dinner in town, and looking for a nice quaint place to have a glass of wine before ending the evening. When we walked in it was quiet, with a few guests at the bar, and 2 couples in the front on the banquette area. The server, Kate, seemed incredibly hurried and lost. We ordered a bottle of water, until we could decide which wines we wanted to select. My girlfriend ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio, and I was undecided. It took nearly 10 minutes to get the Pinot Grigio, and when she returned I ordered my glass of red wine. That was the last time we saw her until she presented us with the check upon my request. I had to ask the bartender if my wine was coming. She had no idea what I was talking about. I asked her to just tell the server we wanted our check, which she was incredibly quick and efficient getting. The server did apologize and made a half hearted attempt to explain something about too many tables and not enough help.......sorry... But that's NOT my problem. On the positive side, the bartender was making an attempt to help the situation and did all she could, but it was too little too late. I asked her if there was a manager, and she said that they didn't have a manager, but that the owner was "kind of" the manager and she wasn't there. I'm not sure what that means, but again, I feel like she was at least making an attempt. I've been so to Pags wine bar before and had just ok experiences. This bar has a great atmosphere with a fireplace and dim lighting. That being said, the atmosphere is not for everyone; if you want to be roudy and get wasted I would suggest you go somewhere cheaper. It was a nice fall night so we decided to sit outside and then all of a sudden it started to rain pretty hard. We endured the rain dripping from the umbrellas for awhile b/c it was fun sitting outside, but we had to move inside. However the atmosphere inside was just as nice. The service was just terrible. I was meeting a few people and was completely ignored.I was the onlt one in the place. Bartender was too interested in polishing bottles. After two friends arrived someone else came out and asked if we wanted anything. A few minutes later the the last of our party arrived and was also ignored.
