Great sound and a nice dance floor.

Been meaning to get here and finally had the chance last night while one of my favorite local bands, Friends of Jerry, AKA John Johnsonson and the John Johonsonson band, made their debut at Dharma Bums. I hadn't been to New Hope in years but was immediately reminded of what a cute town it is. Beautiful architecture and scenery in this area, and DB is no exception. The entrance is like a hobbit hole, and like hobbit holes it leads to a welcoming and homey interior with wonder food and drinks on hand. I arrived a bit after 8 on a Friday night and business was bustling downstairs while I could hear the band playing upstairs. The rustic atmosphere is beautiful and compliments the building which is at least 100 years old. The upstairs was a treat with half the area dedicated to the stage/band and the back end had a few chairs and space to relax. The stage area had the plaster and lathe removed and left the beams exposed, beautifully advertising g the age of the building. The other half had been finished/painted and has a more modern look to it. The sound was great and there was plenty of room to spread out on the dance floor. At set break I went downstairs to try some of the food which I've heard great things about. Although they had a great beer selection, I had an hour drive ahead of me and wasn't drinking so went with my staple, a cherry coke. Allison, working the bar last night, was happy to oblige, and let me know the kitchen was open till 10. They feature an all vegetarian menu which has a lot of good options. I went with the Thai Jam Grilled Cheese and side salad. As the crowd moved downstairs between sets several people were eying up my grilled cheese, it was phenomenal! Sadly it looked so good it was gone before I got a pic. My first visit was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to get back for another show, great service, food, atmosphere, and live music!

POINT PLEASANT, PA: did you know there is a Point Pleasant in Pennsylvania? And it just happens to be home to an incredible spot, Dharma Bums Bar, recently named one of USA Today's Top Restaurants of the Year! Housed in a historic building, this vegetarian restaurant features an adorable dog friendly courtyard where we were warmly welcomed by Kate, our server. She gave us fantastic recommendations, brought Brie a water bowl, and was such a joy to chat with. The food is amazing, made with fresh ingredients and we especially loved the Brussels Caesar, Falafel Naan, and the unforgettable butterscotch budino for dessert. Many dishes can also be made vegan or gluten-free upon request. The drool-worthy menu pairs perfectly with a great selection of hand-crafted cocktails, local draft beers, and wine. The courtyard itself is cozy and inviting, framed by a beautiful stone building and fully enclosed with a fence. Between the fire pit, ping pong tables, and relaxed seating areas, it is the perfect spot to unwind in a peaceful setting. Leashed and friendly dogs are allowed to enter the indoor bar area to walk through to the courtyard. There are umbrellas at some of the tables and shaded areas to stay cool.

I love Dharma Bums. The rustic, hippy interior was unexpected, but charming. We enjoyed our popcorn cauliflower and Bravas Tacos. Delicious with huge portions. The main reason I'm writing this review is a dish that I think about so much. I will go here again and again for a salad. The Brussels Caesar was/is so amazing. Completely not what I'd think a "Caesar" anything would be. So crunchy and spicy. Do not miss out on this dish. You'll become annoyingly preoccupied with having SALAD. No regrets. I wonder if it's just as good in take out form. I want it tonight.

    Food. Yum.

Lovely and friendly service. Such an exciting menu. How do I chose? I just have to come back and enjoy different things each time! We ordered edamame guacamole and a pear tart. Delicious!! We came for a bite to eat and this Poetry reading event. Very cool. Cute decor upstairs! I would definitely come back again!

A lot of last-minute decisions were made on Saturday afternoon, and this was one of them. I stopped by Dharma Bums with an old chum for lunch prior to a wild winery visit a few minutes' drive away. I grew up probably 25 minutes or so from this area in Hunterdon County, and I have quite a few young pup memories of driving past the wild, large antique store just up the road on the way to visit Peddlers Village or the sheep in Lahaska. Despite not being entirely sure where this was located, the signage made it pretty easy to spot, and I was able to secure parking right off the street with minimal drama. It WAS a little more difficult to find the entrance, which was on the side toward the very back of the building (a ye olde stone one, for the record). Our first attempt to get inside (which admittedly just involved staring quizzically at a door that didn't look like it got a ton of use from the public) was unsuccessful, but there were instructions there to use a different, "barrel" door. Upon discovery, the barrel door was exactly what it sounds like - a giant barrel-like structure that had star decorations hanging from the interior that reminded me of Spencer Gifts. Once inside, my chum noted that this space used to be a dive bar, which sounded about right. Dive bars around here are either in dilapidated shacks or restored colonial buildings, and I was pleased to be in the latter. Although the mac and cheese bites looked intriguing, I ended up getting the Grilled Cheese entree with fries. The Grilled Cheese was prepped with naan bread and tomato chutney; it was better than I thought it would be, with a fun flavor profile for the palate. The chutney gave it some sweetness and spice that separated this from the standard menu option you'd get anywhere else. The fries were a mistake, at least in terms of my personal palate preference - I'm a crispy fry adherent and these were pretty squishy on the whole. They also definitely needed ketchup for flavoring purposes. I'm sure there are plenty of customers who enjoy these, but they weren't my jam. As much as I enjoy my spot at the top of the food chain, I didn't mind putting that to the side for a meal here (an unapologetically vegetarian establishment). There were a few other options on the menu I'd have zero issue sampling as well, and the service was perfectly fine. As an added bonus for the literary nerds out there, you can munch on your food in the presence of a portrait of Jack Kerouac. I prefer the thirst trap known as F. Scott Fitzgerald, but different strokes for different folks.

We stopped here after a hike with the Lambertville/New Hope Women's Group and had a wonderful time! It was a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't too crowded. We only came for lunch, but I would love to come by for an open mic night or sewing circle as advertised by flyers posted around the restaurant. Maybe some time soon! The food was wonderful. I'm not vegetarian, but some people in our group were. They raved about their lunches, which included a vegetarian pot pie, cauliflower tacos, and a mushroom cheese"steak." Even though I'm not really a veggie gal, I was able to find multiple things that looked great. I got the grilled cheese and their special pig chai hot cider (proceeds go to the placement of pigs in farms). I could not get enough of either part. The tomato chutney really made the grilled cheese special. The prices are high, but the food is quality. Everyone wolfed down their food before we could even take pictures! We took a tour of the space before we ate. The downstairs bar area is super cool and divey. The entrance is made to look like a barrel with floating candles-- very Harry Potter. The upstairs is a lot more mid-century modern, and it's where the bands play. There's even a small backyard space where they host yoga sometimes! Parking may be an issue, as there's only a small lot in the front. I would advise carpooling. 10/30 EDIT: The owner just informed me they have additional parking at the rear of the building! Service was great and one of our party were friends with the bartender and server. I would love for this place to get more foot traffic, but I'm a little worried our special spot will be discovered! I'm looking forward to coming back soon!

So we drove there but were not sure it was open. It was. Just dark. And some things on the menu were not available. But everyone was super nice and they brought us a menu that had what they offer in a blackout. With the flashlights we looked over the menu. They had probably about 8 customers not including the 2 of us. So they were trying to accommodate. I got the watermelon tomato gazpacho and the chick pea caesar salad. Both were very good. On the gazpacho I wish there was a bit more watermelon flavor and chunks. The salad was good. Very hearty. My friend got the mushroom po boy. She liked it as well. The server was very nice and attentive. The lights eventually came back on about 3/4 the way through our meal. So now we could see. The place is cute and the fans were welcome on a humid evening. You have to pay to park. And the restaurant is all the way down on the right. The area is very cute and kinda touristy. The only down side besides paying to park are the prices. Just because it's vegan doesn't mean it's cheap. It's not. Prices are higher. Just for my soup and salad my dinner was $28. I guess that could be standard but I got soup and a salad. But it was good. I would go back, just not often. Overall good experience in a challenging evening with the blackout.

Character, no, charm and character, made everything feel good. But when they closed, nobody had a clue what was ahead. The good news is, I'm about to tell you why this is a must go. We arrived a little early, planning on having a cocktail at the outside bar, surrounded by waterfalls and firepits. Had the weather been better, I would be sharing that part of the experience, but alas, fate dictated an indoor-only experience on this trip. Not that it made it bad, just left me wanting to come back for that part of the night another time. Now, on to the dinner. If service alone was the reason for 5 stars, Becky would have earned an easy 12. Not only was she timely, but so filled with knowledge of what was being served, both food and wine, that she became an integral part of the evening. The room was minimalist in its design so as to not distract from the main attraction. And the food, well, that's what you've wanted to hear about, so here we go. We began by choosing the tasting menu. While many wonderful options are available ala carte, the tasting menu provided the chance to test the capabilities of the chef and prep staff. They passed with flying colors. The marriage of colors, textures, and outstanding flavors, combined with artistic talent, make even a simple food exotic. They nailed it at every bend. I won't talk about everything, but my favorites were the panne cotta, the ravioli (like chiffon), and the dessert. Oh, and the salad. Oh yeah! Read the menu for details. My dining partners opted for the wine pairing and felt it, like the meal itself, was a tremendous value. I can't argue that for even a moment. Bottom line. Make a reservation, sit in the fancier Finch, and thank me later. PS - the bar also serves food, but that review is for another day.

My fiancee and I booked a table at the two week old restaurant located in the historic, 300+ year old Stockton Inn to celebrate our engagement. The refined but not sedate or stuffy atmosphere hosts just 13 tables, and the service provided, like the food and drink, was phenomenal. The menu looks towards Northern Italy with a handful of raw/salad starters, pasta dishes, entrees, and desserts available, alongside the four course Finch Experience prix fixed. I opted for the Finch Experience; while the kitchen was happy to accomodate requests for vegetarian options, my fiancee kept it to two courses. First up: an amuse bouche ("table grapes") - cauliflower panna cotta with grapes + oil + pepitas. A sweet and savory taste and good indication of the fare to come. Next: bread - brioche with seaweed butter. The puffy bread roll is probably the best taste of brioche either of us have had: buttery, salty, and tender, and boosted by the incredible and subtle umami taste of the butter. Starter: winter chicory salad - chicory + poached pear + fennel salami + shaved pecorino + anchovy. I'm a sucker for anchovy filets in salad, and the bracing brine pairs well with the sweet pear and bitter chicory. Pasta: beef cheek agnolotti - pasta with braised beef cheek + cabbage in a black truffle sauce with dried cherries + hazelnuts. The beef was meltingly tender while the tart cherries and savory hit of the sauce cut through the richness with hazelnuts providing a nice contrast in texture. carnaroli risotto - risotto with wild mushrooms, made vegetarian (without parmigiano on request). Rich, creamy rice mellowed out the delicious funk of the mushrooms Entree: seared duck breast - pan seared duck + chestnut puree + spiced red cabbage + persimmon in a huckleberry jus. Outstanding duck and meltingly tender, with the tart jus harmonizing with the fat honeynut squash - squash + lentils + sunflower gremolata. Perfectly al dente lentils topped the just sweet enough squash Dessert: pavlova - meringue topped with pistachio + blood orange sorbet over a lemon sauce. The play of sweet and tart was the perfect ending to the meal funnel cake - fried dough + powdered sugar. An unexpected treat with the Finch Experience; this was a fine, boardwalk style funnel cake though nowhere near as greasy Drinks: Miss Behavin' - apple brandy + pear brandy + lemon juice + sparkling wine. Bright and fruity without cloying sweetness. The sparkling wine adds a lightness Jack Rose - Calvados + apple brandy + lemon juice + lime juice + house grenadine + raspberry liqueur + orange bitters. Tart and bold, but very drinkable and pairing well with the flavors of the meal. An elite dining experience all around and the staff couldn't be nicer or more professional, even bringing us each a complimentary glass of champagne for our engagement Very highly recommended

It was all exciting about trying some very interesting dishes on the pre-fix meal, but unfortunately, it was not the stellar experience that I was hoping for. For starters, our server and "Director of First Impressions", Amber, was cold, aloof, and disconnected. She was just running through her role in a very detached manner. We made no connection with our server and the server is 50% of the experience. She was rushing. No one was there yet to take her time, and we felt that we had no connection with our server whatsoever. She didn't show any passion for the dishes other than sharing what she felt were her favorites. In a restaurant, speak in creative terms about the food, have and show passion for the food you represent. The four of us discussed the menu, and we all aligned and were going to taste around the table. Between the four of us, one tried the Thai pork dish, one the shrimp dish, and two the eggplant Parm dish. In summary, we all felt that they were underwhelming, and they missed their mark on expectation and wow factor. For example, the Thai pork dish that I had was supposed to have a Thai flair to it. If there was any, it was on the lower end of the flavor profile. It was a tiny dollop of some sort of red Thai chilli sauce, but it wasn't enough of a flavor profile to make me say yes, that's Thai-inspired, and frankly, it was lukewarm, yes the meat was tender. My wife and a friend had the eggplant Parm dish and also felt uninspired by their dishes. One was overcooked compared to the other; the two asked for additional sauce to give it some more flavor. Yes, it was a nice evening out, and you get a lot for your money with a multi-course dining experience. One other oddity. During the dessert course, which was a type of bread pudding, we were not offered coffee nor tea. Even it would have been extra, who doesn't offer a hot beverage with dessert, especially in the artic temps we are experiencing this winter. I had nearly an hour drive home, and coffee would have been most appreciated. Oh well. So in summary, I would have expected this to be a five-star review all day long. Unfortunately, it's not even close,e and this is coming from 2 couples opinion.
