I order the ribs. This is $19.99. I'm sorry, what? $19.99. Um, where? I really enjoy this place, otherwise. They have good food and their sides are amazing. As good as it is, it's overpriced. read more

Packsaddle BBQ - I ordered the ribs. This is $19.99. I'm sorry, what?! $19.99. Um where? - Barbeque Near Me - San Angelo, Texas

Been going here about a month. New ownership & what a delightful difference. Terrific hamburgers, ribs, & a big thick turkey sandwich. Clean surroundings & friendly servers. Top notch job. read more

Food was great! The Peach Cobbler is a definite must have after your meal! Brisket was tender and the sides were really good.

The food caught me by surprise. It was actually some pretty good brisket, sausage, and BBQ sauce. We started with the onion rings which were okay. They were super flakey and fell apart when you tried to pick them up. Meaning that they don't put enough batter on them. But maybe the batch I got was just a weak batch. I got the poor boy sandwich and a side of fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw wasn't all that great but the sandwich was really good. The meat was definitely smokey. Man, even the whole place smelled smokey when we walked in. It's a small place with several booths and a few tables. They serve beer as well. The server was nice and friendly. I paid about $30 for everything (2 sandwiches, 2 fries, 1 coleslaw, an order of onion rings, only water) I wouldn't get the onion rings or coleslaw again but I would definitely go back to satisfy my BBQ craving. read more

We went here for lunch and it's definitely a hot spot for the locals. It's rustic and older on the inside, but it has it's own greasy spoon type of charm. We started off with the onion rings and the jalapeno poppers because appetizers were only $2-4. You could feel your arteries clogging, but the appetizers were greasy and delicious! Next we had our main course. My friends had the burger and beef brisket and the brisket was very good. I had the short ribs, they were very beefy but a bit fatty for my taste. And if you go there, you have to get dessert. We got cherry cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream, it was messy but delicious! All for under $30, pretty cool experience. read more

Oh my so yummy and reasonably priced. I would give 5 stars but the seating needs updating (is broken down booths and uncomfortable) and parking lot needs to be paved. Mom's Prius barely made it in and out alive. lol Homemade ice cream need I say more? read more

Chopped brisket was tasty, but the BBQ sauce was average. The onion rings were hot and fresh. Walking frito taco had too many chips and not enough meat. Skip the peach cobbler. It's not worth it. The wait staff was pleasant and atmosphere was nice. read more

This is a very good BBQ restaurant in the San Angelo area. It is located near the lake, making this a good stop after a day or morning enjoying water sports. The BBQ is delicious at a fair price. The cobbler is sweet, but not overpowering. The portion size is comparable to other BBQ in the area. The ambiance is basic, simple table and chairs, but the wait staff is very friendly and attentive. read more

Overpriced Mediocre BBQ I was really excited to try this place, unfortunately I was extremely disappointed. We started with some fried stuffed jalapeños, an had brisket, hush puppies, an French fries. When the French fries are the best thing out of that list above it's def not a good sign. I had heard a few good things but didn't see what any of the talk was about. Sadly I will not be going back, an encourage you not to either read more

I really enjoy the atmosphere here, and their delicious food!!! Thank you Michael!! Um... catfish and hush puppies!! read more

Service was too-notch, the servers were extremely nice and attentive. The food however, was mostly disappointing. Ribs were chewy and lacked any flavor, heavy smoke but not anything in terms of flavor. Brisket was the same as well, just tasted like smoked meat with no seasoning at all. The okra was also soaked in oil and not all that tasty. The only thing that was really good was the Mac n cheese. read more

This barbecue is certainly not bad by any means. However, the reason I give it 2 stars is because this is Texas, brisket is supposed to be the pinnacle of barbecue, and Packsaddle's brisket was lacking in flavor. The bark was pretty disappointing and overall caused the brisket to have little to no flavor. I will say, the sausage and the sides are very good, but I can't get past a barbecue whose brisket might be the worst thing on their menu. read more

If you are looking for brand new chairs and tables, go elsewhere. If you are looking for anything other than good food with good service, go elsewhere. I had the and the wife had the.... It does not matter, it was all good. I do have a complaint, I am too full to try the cobbler and home made ice cream! I have to remember that next time! read more

I've been driving past this place for 3 years because I thought it was "just" a Bar-B-Que place. OMG they have the best chicken strips I've ever had period! They were hand breaded and seasoned to perfection. Hand cut fries and great gravy. We also had a cheeseburger and I can tell you it's the best one in San Angelo by far. This place isn't much to look at but soooo much more than a Bar-B-Que joint. read more

If you have not tried this under the new ownership, I would encourage you to do so. From my experience with the previous ownership the place was hit or miss. However with the new ownership the food is CONSTANTLY excellent, the decor and atmosphere is bright and fresh and staff is very friendly. I highly recommend. read more

Heard about this restaurant from Lee, owner of the Red Barn campground. The decor is cute. The staff was friendly and attentive! The food was awesome! The coffee plentiful! Love the place! read more

I'm in no way a connoisseur of fine, southern (..or Texan) BBQ but this place really knocked my socks off. Everything about it, from the interior design to the odd fact that they're closed on Tuesdays, seemed to ring of some sort of crazy authenticity. I had the "poor boy" sandwich and found myself craving another one despite the fact that I wasn't even hungry to begin with. The waitress was friendly and their coke was on point. Just the right amount of syrup... Besides the fact that this place seems to be waging a war against Tuesdays I'd say that you absolutely must stop in. Especially if you're a pilot flying into Mathis Field and looking for a place to take the crew car! read more

Service was amazing but the food better!! Brisket has a great flavor, and the Turkey was delicious! Definitely will come again and recommend to everyone! read more

We went to Paddlesack for lunch and I wasn't impressed at all. I had the 2 meat combo platter - brisket & ribs with sides of coleslaw and beans. I was super excited to try Paddlesack and was hoping to get some good Texas BBQ. I tried Cousin's (at DFW) which was no good and Old Time Pit BBQ in town had burned down :( Maybe my expectations of BBQ are too high or maybe I'm expecting it to be as good as what I got in North Carolina... but I didn't like what I got at all. My meat was tough and cold and the sides were bland. The food was edible and the service good but I wanted so much more. read more

One of my favorite BBQ places in San Angelo. Good prices and great chopped brisket, seriously, if you order anything else (except maybe a combo plate), you're missing out. It just has that nice smokey smell that permeates through the building. Also, you're pretty much required to get cobbler if you have room for it, just saying. If you want to one up your experience, get it with ice-cream too. Overall, a great Texan experience, and one of the two places in town I would recommend if you're looking to good some good BBQ Seriously, I can picture that smokey aroma right now. read more

Very disappointed with the brisket and sausage plate. The brisket was crusty and burnt tasting from the smoking process, the sausage also displayed the same dryness and char. the sausage was cut into bite size pieces and tasted and looked like it was cooked the day before. The brisket did not have the traditional red cap found on other notable Texas brisket that has been cooked 16 hours. Their meat appeared to be augmented in a oven along with smoke flavoring product. The meat did not taste like any spices were used and had a flat taste. The mashed potatoes were chunky, dry and obviously heated up from a process that occurred much, much earlier. The okra was hard, crusty and tasted like really old grease. The sad part of this disappointment was my meal was at prime dinner time, 5 o'clock when they should have been at the top of their game. Their advertisement states Packsaddle has been in business for over 30 years and they have the best BBQ in town because of their homemade quality and commitment, this may have been in the past, but the current proprietor has really dropped the ball, so sad, it is not flavorful, tasty, or exciting as it was before it changed hands A couple times back. Management should be on site especially during prime hours and Not rely on wait staff to manage their operation. Please start using some spices on the meat and use better cuts that aren't so chewy. Sorry, but this what my wife and I experienced 1-7-22 read more

Pretty good BBQ. Brisket and Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage is on point. The Beef spare rib was not so good. It tasted bad and burned. Smoked should've been the flavor. Meat was tender just not tasty. The waitstaff was friendly and fast. The experience was ok. read more

Would give it a 5 star rating but the rude night manager has no place in the hospitality industry.

We were unpacking after unloading in our new home here in San Angelo, when my mother in law and her husband showed up with the wonderful meat and all the trimmings and sides from Packsaddle. We were really hungry. We scarfed it all down and only learned a few days later that if we would turn left instead of right when we left our neighborhood we would find this wonderful treasure was in our backyard! What a find and thank you to my MIL for lunch and the insight on where to turn for BBQ in my own backyard. read more

This establishment is one of the rudest place to go in San Angelo. As soon as we walked it they looked at us and went about their business as if we weren't standing there. They took forever to bring our very bland food. The owner didn't acknowledge us but was with other customers. Our waitress never came to see if we needed anything. I asked another waitress for a small box and snapped back at me we only have it large ones. I said that's fine and she rolled her eyes and proceeded to get me one. Then the waitress never came to check us out. I waited and waited until the other waitress who had just told me she couldn't cash me out said Oh I can check you out. Just such a poor excuse for a restaurant. If you want to get rude service and flavorless food that's way over priced then this is your type of restaurant. If I could give less than one star I would. read more

I was really craving some good brisket today, however not what I got. Ordered two two plates to go, got home sauce all over the meat, bread soaked in sauce. I've eaten a lot barbeque in my day, and never have I had the sauce already poured over it. Beans tasted like canned pork and beans, oops, wait a minute, never saw any pork in there. Mac and cheese was cold, like just out of the refrigerator. I've been in the hospitality for many years, and I had heard this business had new owners, as in the past I hate to say, but from what I've seen, new owners means things change and most of the time never for the good. I'll need to mark place as a "BIG NO" on my list now!! read more

This place is great. For starters its a sitdown not a walk through. I had the chopped brisket, and smoked sausage plate with cole slaw and fresh cut fries all of it was fing delicious. read more

Not great but not bad either. Went for lunch and got the spare ribs, cole slaw and beans. Meat wasn't really warm. Tasted more like an indoor picnic. Sauce was good. Ribs tasted kind of like the flame it was cooked on. I got the stuffed jalapeños. I was really excited to try them, but they were pretty cookie-cutter. Not great, but not bad. The restaurant was deco'd with a nascar theme and was really nice. Don't know if I'll go back or try to find a better BBQ in San Angelo. read more

The coleslaw was dry. No dressing whatsoever. The ice cream was nothing more than frozen milk. You could see the ice crystals. The brisket was okay. read more

Very good service but the food is not great. The ribs were very fatty with not much meat to come off the bone. The fried pickles seemed like they were fried in fish batter and everything tasted very mediocre. read more

Please whatever you do, do not tell them you are not a local resident, I walked in informed them I had never been there so kept it simple with a takeout of 2 pulled pork sandwiches, I expected to get quality food, when I unpacked the lunch, I was shocked that the buns were stale and fell apart, the meat was dry and old, I had asked for some BBQ Sauce and NONE was provided, so basically we had sndwiches falling apart totally dry, my wife and I ate basically 1/3 of each sandwich, then I tried to give my dog the meat and she did not want it, total waste of money and time, McDonalds would have been a better choice and I absolutely hate McDonalds...Drive a little farther and find some real food...... read more

great food and service brisket always comes out great first time trying fried mash potatoes and it was great

A few months ago, they had thin cut fried onion rings that were cooked crispy and were excellent. Evidently, they decided to buy pre-breaded onion rings and you get a flour taste in your mouth. Brisket is still good, but very disappointed in onion rings. Update: We tried the onion rings again (March 2, 2018) and they are back to breading their own and were excellent. They are breading their steak fingers and they are wonderful again. The seasoning on the onion rings and the steak fingers is outstanding. We have been back several times now. read more

If you know BBQ, then this is it for San Angelo. It's always busy lunch and dinner but there's plenty of room for everyone. I like to get their BBQ Sandwich for lunch. Of course you think BBQ, it's definitely going to be greasy but it's awesome. I only get a chance to go eat there once in a while so I look forward to the delicious food. They also do takeouts, when I worked at the Airport, we used to call in an as soon as they open then go pick it up 5 minutes later. The place reminds me of an old shed we had in the back. It's rustic and cozy and I like it. The walls are filled with pictures, local paintings, and tons of license plates. And on Thanksgiving Holiday...get in line to get your turkey done right. They offer to cook your turkey. I love that. read more

I used to love eating at Packsaddle- it seems that little changes are being noticed in the food taste and service. The meat has been dry and the seasoning is "off". I asked if the sauce had been changed and they assured me it hadn't, but it just tasted different. The fried mushrooms on our last visit two weeks are were terrible. When I bit into the mushroom it was wet and dripping, leaving the batter wet too. The burgers have always been a favorite for me, I had one of their burgers a couple of weeks ago and they were good. The servers have changed since the change of ownership. The previous servers knew our names, what we liked to drink and were super nice. The new servers seem young and un-interested; perhaps it's the age difference. Overall, we have had better. read more

Friends suggested we go to Pack Saddle for a late lunch today. We declined saying we'd given up on them although they had once been our favorite Friday night restaurant. The friends told us PS had new owners, had been somewhat remodeled and the food was good. So we gave it a try. We learned it has been nearly 3 years since the new owners took over! Our choice for todays lunch (about 2:30pm) was Catfish and it was really, really, really good! I had fries and friend okra which were just ok. My husband had cole slaw and potato salad. He said they were really good. Our server was very friendly and upbeat, not so the other employees who pretty much ignored us. Rather than take initiative and help clean up the place the cashier was on her phone while other employees were in and out of the kitchen yet no one seemed to be bothered by the messy dining areas. Maybe it was because we were there between the lunch and dinner rush although it seems to be that would be the perfect time to get the place cleaned up and ready for the next rush! Bottom line is the overall service experience, lack of cleanliness as well as the just ok sides could not overcome the wonderful taste of the catfish. . Maybe during rush hour the staff is friendlier and the place is cleaner, although staff should always be friendly and the place should always be clean. It doesn't take much time to clean off tables and sweep the floor! We may give it another try at a later date to see if this experience was just because it was an off time of day. read more

Delicious BBQ. This is what you should expect from West Texas - good food. Packsaddle delivers. I suggest closing your eyes and picking something at random from the menu, you won't be disappointed! My personal favorite is the brisket. Tender and juicy, plus the homemade BBQ sauce is excellent! Best BBQ in town, hands down. read more
