Vegan spicy chicken! (4.5/5 Green Stars) How can you resist…read morea place named 2 Phat Vegans?! It's a lovely building in a great location, near the French market, Esplanade Ave., and Frenchmen St. The interior is cheerfully painted in bright colors with lots of art and posters on the walls. The bright green interior, contrasted against the red brick exterior, is fun and charming. I ordered my food to go a spicy chic'n sandwich (vegan chicken, vegan cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles) for $14.65, and waited at a table outside. The staff/owner seems a bit disorganized so you may wait a while depending on who's running the show. Case-in-point - the menu on the website is a mess! My food was good, however, and I'd have it again. Not a bargain, considering that it doesn't come with fries. Others report inconsistent quality - get your acts together, guys! I'm also rating 2 Phat Vegans 4.5 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following: * Everything here is vegan. Adopting a plant-based diet is the top thing you can do to mitigate climate change, deforestation, animal cruelty, and global food scarcity (and improve your health!) * Many items seem to be made in house, for example the hot sausage, which I'll try next time. I just found that out from an interview with the owner on YouTube. The website could do a much better job on this selling point. * Black-owned local business that's pretty conscious about the food and drinks that they stock. * Room for improvement: my sandwich came in what appears to be a Styrofoam box. Switch this to compostable cardboard please! Styrofoam is nasty for the planet.

There was one other person at a table and he turned out to be a friend of the guy who was working front of the house. We orderred two items and a blueberry smoothy. The fried ochra was AMAZING, and the sausage po boy which was pretty good but not great. They didn't have the chicken sandwich or the fish sandwich which is what we specifically came in for. Oh well. The table was sticky and there were no napkins in the holders on any of the tables. There was a thin layer of hot sauce in the bottom of hot sauce bottle on our table. We looked around and noticed the same thing on the other tables. We were really looking forward to this resturaunt and what we found was sad disappointing. You can tell it used to be something special, but now it's just dirty and smells like pot.

My coworker and I came here for breakfast one morning before attending our conference workshops. We got lucky and were able to be seated right away despite it being busy. Our servers were friendly and nice and moved quickly about the restaurant tending to the customers. They decoration of the dinner was interesting, reminded me of od school rustic. We opted for french toast, a side of grits, a side of bread, shrimp and grits and a mimosa. All the food and drink were great and fresh. We really enjoyed it. So much so we tried to come back the next day but they were closed. Definitely recommend for someone looking for good breakfast food for a low cost.

The stories about the line are true: it was mid morning on a Sunday, and there was definitely a line, but we put in for a table for three and were seated within 20 minutes. First up was a bloody mary, the canonical brunch beverage, and it was a winner. Dressed with some nice veggies in handled jar, it was delicious and refreshing. As for the food, I was torn between a couple of the benedicts, so I ended up combining and getting crab cake and andouille sausage, both on the same croissant. It was delicious if a bit much; I ended up taking half to go. The crab cake was substantial in size, with a good crab to cake ratio, and the sauce which was touted to be excellent, certainly was. This was a very tasty breakfast. The decor was very cute and bright, and our server had a great smile and proper NOLA accent, tending to all of our needs with aplomb. It was a great experience, and one I'd do again for sure.

I ordered the Bearcat breakfast with bison sausage. Never had bison sausage but it was absolutely delicious. The potatoes were cooked perfectly crispy and seasoned very well. The eggs were also scrambled perfectly. Everything was so good! I opted for the gluten free pancakes on the side. They were good for GF. I think they put banana in them for the texture which was nice. The syrup made the pancakes for me. What I absolutely loved was the Golden Latte! It was honestly one of the best I've ever had. The espresso was good and the flavors were well balanced and it wasn't super sweet (which I appreciated). I would absolutely come back here!
