It's a lovely building in a great location, near the French market, Esplanade Ave., and Frenchmen St. The interior is cheerfully painted in bright colors with lots of art and posters on the walls. The bright green interior, contrasted against the red brick exterior, is fun and charming. I ordered my food to go a spicy chic'n sandwich (vegan chicken, vegan cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles) for $14.65, and waited at a table outside. The staff/owner seems a bit disorganized so you may wait a while depending on who's running the show. Case-in-point - the menu on the website is a mess! My food was good, however, and I'd have it again. Not a bargain, considering that it doesn't come with fries. Others report inconsistent quality - get your acts together, guys! I'm also rating 2 Phat Vegans 4.5 out of 5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact, based on the following: * Everything here is vegan. Adopting a plant-based diet is the top thing you can do to mitigate climate change, deforestation, animal cruelty, and global food scarcity (and improve your health!) * Many items seem to be made in house, for example the hot sausage, which I'll try next time. I just found that out from an interview with the owner on YouTube. The website could do a much better job on this selling point. * Black-owned local business that's pretty conscious about the food and drinks that they stock. * Room for improvement: my sandwich came in what appears to be a Styrofoam box. This place was super sus. We had to wait for a few minutes at the counter before anyone came to help us. There was one other person at a table and he turned out to be a friend of the guy who was working front of the house. We orderred two items and a blueberry smoothy. The fried ochra was AMAZING, and the sausage po boy which was pretty good but not great. They didn't have the chicken sandwich or the fish sandwich which is what we specifically came in for. Oh well. The table was sticky and there were no napkins in the holders on any of the tables. There was a thin layer of hot sauce in the bottom of hot sauce bottle on our table. We looked around and noticed the same thing on the other tables. We were really looking forward to this resturaunt and what we found was sad disappointing. As someone who loves discovering great local food, I was genuinely excited to try this place after reading the menu. Unfortunately, while the food delivered, the overall experience was disappointing and honestly overshadowed what could have been a great meal. When we walked in, there was no one at the counter -- just one man sitting at a table who later appeared to be friends with one of the employees. Two employees wandered in shortly after, and from the beginning the energy felt strange and unprofessional. After interacting with them, I truly got the impression they were high. We didn't feel welcomed or valued as customers at all. The restaurant itself also looked neglected. The tables were sticky, every napkin dispenser was empty, and the hot sauce bottles on the tables were nearly drained. Small details matter, especially in a city known for incredible food and hospitality, and this place seemed completely uninterested in maintaining either. What makes this even more frustrating is that the food was genuinely excellent. The hot sausage po'boy was packed with flavor, and the fried okra was some of the best I've had. There's clearly talent in the kitchen, which makes the lack of care everywhere else even more disappointing. I'm sure their other food is good but I could not personally handle the spice on the jerk chicken wrap. I also tried to go during business hours a couple of times over two days and they were not open the first day I tried. I came back about an hour later and they still weren't open, I'm not sure what happened but I don't totally trust their hours are accurate. Solid 4 star hole in the wall (we like hole in the wall restaurants!) place with personable staff and very good plant based food. We had the meatball and mushroom subs (ok, po boys). with a side of fries. All was enjoyed. There was a steady stream of customers while we were there and it took a while to get the food, understood. What could be improved is the wait between the two subs, would be nice if they could be prepared concurrently. Won't keep us from coming back to explore other menu options. One side note. The meatball sub is prepared with fresh tomatoes, lettuce etc. which I was very surprised to see... so if you are hard put to get it made the way you have it in New York/Jersey/philly or wherever you'll need to ask. As vegans exploring the French Quarter, we researched and were excited to support such a wonderful option to try NO specialties - vegan style! Upon arrival and attempting to order, we realized that the menu has scaled down significantly from what yelp purports. It's a basic veg restaurant according to what we saw on 8/1/26 that relies on pizza and impossible burgers. There's very limited chick'n, the cr'ab was not on the working menu and, needless to say, we were very disappointed. Plus, we took our food to go, (shared a single burger), but there was NO AC in the space. It was 95 with bananas humidity.... On my recent visit to New Orleans I discovered this restaurant on the 1st day. OMG, the mushroom p'boy was absolutely delicious. My cousin had the burger . She's not vegan and enjoyed it. I tasted the okra and it was delicious. Ironically, the vegan food tour had a stop here. We tasted the fried eggplant and the sausage Poboy. Our last night there we had to return because my cousin wanted the fried okra. Unfortunately, they had ran out of okra. My cousin and I ordered mushroom Poboys and fries. I'll get to the point and say that was the best Po'boy I've tried, vegan or otherwise. The mushrooms were breaded, fried, and so crisp. They have an option with plant sausage as well. I ordered a portion of gumbo to take away for later on, and that was a hit. The spices were incredible and I was happy with the portion sizes. It's a small restaurant, but fun inside, not to mention Air Conditioned! Right across the street from the French Market district, which is worth checking out. Cannot recommend this place enough. Gigantic portions to the point where I did finish my Po-boy but the okra was too much for me and my wife to finish. Worst meal ever. There were 3 guys working yesterday and the food came out super slow. Like 10 minutes between our two sandwiches kind of slow. But the worst part is the people working there don't even know their own menu. They made a meatball sub with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and pickles (plus the only ingredients listed in the description - meatballs, red sauce and cheese). It was disgusting! I watched Bing's YouTube video on why he made his 2 Phat Vegans vision happen, and had to try this place while visiting NOLA. The location was off the French Market. I loved the hip hop and vegan decor but unfortunately, the service was lacking. It felt a little "sticky" and unclean inside. The music was very loud which I don't usually mind too much, but it was loud enough to make it hard to communicate. It smelled LOUD in there so if you have kids or that's not your thing, this might not be the spot for you. The two young men working were on the phone most of the time, not welcoming, and kind of rude to me and another customer. A couple other people came in that they were much friendlier to but they seemed to be regulars or friends. On to the food! The mushroom po boy was thick and flavorful. I ordered the fried okra which was the best I've ever had and ended up putting the okra on my French bread instead, the mushrooms were too rubbery for my liking. The orange house dipping sauce was incredible! The gumbo was decent but tasted like the rice was either not washed before cooking, or boiled in old water. All in all, due to the lack of vegan options around, this place did the job. And I'd go back for the fried okra any day. I hope that Mr. Mathis gets some people working in there that care and share his vision as much as him. He seems like a sweet soul trying to help the community heal through delicious vegan food. Hi! I don't know how the food at this location is because (waves hands dramatically) although OPEN, and it was after 11am, they were not serving food? I trucked it from Canal St. with my vegan bestie for a vegan treat but, nope. The kind gentleman working said it was completely the owners fault, as there was inventory to do and they wouldn't serve food until later. We had planes to catch so we left but get it together. Such a cute little place, and their hot sausage po' boy was amazing. Service was friendly and leisurely. Here's the thing. I don't know what was going on in there, but after a few minutes sitting and waiting for our sandwich, both my partner's and my eyes started to sting and tear up. We opted for not eating there because we were in a bit of pain. I wonder if it's the spice that they use that is somehow in the air and getting into our eyes....because the same stinging we felt in our eyes (not so good) we felt in our mouths (very good) when we ate the po' boy. We apparently weren't the only ones. We ran into another customer outside who was also dabbing at her eyes with a tissue, and she said that she "needed to let [her] eyeballs breathe." LOL. I've been to vegan restaurants from San Francisco to Atlanta to Manhattan to Chicago and I can confidently say that 2 Phat Vegans might very well be one of the top 3 places in America. The sausage po'boy was absolutely fantastic and HUGE. We ate a vegan hoagie that was $16 at a different place 3 days ago that was very tasty but tiny, so seeing this foot-long French bread sandwich (for $16.50), we were blown away. It was amazing. After the rutabega fondue at Vedge in Philadelphia, this is very possibly the second best vegan food I've ever had. The fried okra for $5 was a great deal, too, and came with a great dipping sauce. The jerk chicken wrap, which was griddled like a burrito, was unreal and not for the faint of heart, spice-wise. It was right up there with the sausage po'boy in flavor and texture. This is a must-have when in New Orleans and worth traveling for. A++ stuff. read more

We were really excited to try this place based off the reviews, but we were a little let down. We love vegan food and are so glad this is happening in New Orleans, but the vibe was really off at this spot. The cashier/server barely looked at or spoke to us, and then our food took 20 minutes to make. There were kids running around which is usually totally fine, but they were body slamming each other, screaming extremely loudly, and bumping into us at the table. It was also super super hot in the restaurant, and my po boy was not quite worth the price. Maybe they were having an off day, and we're rooting for 2 phat vegans!
