Absolute diamond in the ruff. Looked at reviews and pics and none really did much justice to how delicious and charming this family owned business is. So took a chance and decided to eat here with the fam. The waiter who reminded me of my Yeh Yeh (grandpa) seated us and took our order. Short and to the point he was and charming. Som tum salad...amazing, flavorful fried rice, and pad soon sen was on point! I recommend this restaurant. Chicken satay hardly made it in the pics. I love this local restaurant run by a sweet family (even the grandpa :)) and the best thing about it is it's open on Mondays! A rare treat in this town. While their pad Thai isn't my favorite, their pad see-ew, vegetarian egg rolls, papaya salad, and eggplant tofu are all incredible. They also often throw in shrimp chips or tapioca jello with most orders. We order from here at least once a month. By far the best Thai food I have ever had in the Bay Area! I was introduced to Thai food when I was just a teenager when my mom befriended a Thai restaurant owner & it has been one of my favorite cuisines ever since. But Pacifica Thai has ruined my enjoyment of eating out at different places because their food is just so much better! The balance of flavors in the curry and soups is just perfect, and they have several dishes on the menu that I've never had anywhere else. One of my go-to Thai spots in this part of the Peninsula. My favorites are the pad Thai, beef panang curry, bbq chicken with sticky rice, and crab fried rice. Ask for a baggie of shrimp chips if available! I've enjoyed everything I've had here and the food comes out fairly quickly. The Thai tea is also a good refreshment. The mango sticky rice dessert is tasty, but not the best I've had. The same goes for the fried banana dessert, although they serve it with a really good variety of coconut ice cream. I'd love to try the ginger cake others have mentioned in their reviews. The prices are average for the area and portions are generous. The ambiance is cozy and a bit weathered, but comfortable enough for a low key dinner with friends/family. I'll be back! read more

This place is located about 3 blocks from the beach and there's plenty of parking. The lady that greeted us was super friendly and didn't rush us when she took our order. I ended up getting the pra ram with a side of coconut rice and my friend got the curry with coconut rice. The Curry was a little bit bland and we had to ask for hot sauce and salt. The pra ram was ok, it wasn't bad, the spinach was the big type of spinach it was wasn't the cooked kind. I've seen their service to other customers that day and them seem to treat everyone like family. Which makes it a great place to give it a try. read more

I was so disappointed. For one thing, the servings were on the small side. Next, the price point is not proportional to the quality of the food. I honestly wouldn't mine dropping $45 for two people if the meal and dining experience was up to par. First off the pad sew noodles were sticking to each other and there were some forkfuls that were chunky. That's a sign of rice noodles not being fresh! Then, the chicken basil stir fry was unbalanced with a lack of protein, but a ton of onions, peppers, and basil. Lastly, we ordered fried banana ice cream with coconut ice cream. This dish was probably my favorite out of the bunch. It was served in a dish with sweet beans. It reminded me of a halo halo (Filipino) or a three bean drink (Vietnamese). I do want to point out that the vibes of the restaurant really set the mood. From the decor on the walls, the tablecloth, the King shrine, and the music playing in the background really made it seem like I was back in Thailand eating at a small street food cart. Despite this, I don't think I'll be returning. I'd rather travel the distance to SF for a better Thai food dining experience. read more

I will admit that the decor is very interesting and the grandpa is a bit grumpy however, I really like this family run restaurant. Nice neighborhood restaurant with friendly staff and the standard Thai dishes. The dishes (which included the pad thai, yellow curry and eggplant) had good flavor and cooked to adequate taste and texture, however, the downside was just how oily the dishes were. One of our family members got the 'runs' afterwards, likely from the grease (although i was ok after eating the meal). Thank God for this restaurant! This is where we go whenever we want something delicious and don't feel like cooking or going anywhere. It's always last minute we realize we don't want to cook, and we just call the restaurant, put in our order, and it's always ready in 20 min. They are always very nice, the prices are good, and they accommodate my shellfish and peanut allergies. The food is also always delicious. They have all the Thai staples and do it well. I also always have leftovers, so I get to eat my pad Thai an extra day . The veggie rolls never make it to the next day though.... We've never actually eaten in the restaurant, but it looks nice and clean inside too. They pack all the food nicely too so it's easy to grab and go. Service was Horrible! Unsure if the elderly owner/waiter male is fluent in English because when ordering some regular dishes such as Papaya Salad, Tom Yum Soup, etc, he kept asking, "What Number?" When ordering coconut rice, he kept saying "white rice." Then we found out the coconut rice was undercooked the hard way. When the waiter cleared our table, my friend warned him of the sauces on the dishes. Either he didn't understand or he doesn't have enough strength to hold two dishes with one hand, so he SPILLED SAUCE all over my friend's pants with NO Apology witnessed by patrons around us! I noticed a recent posting on Next Door about this local Thai spot, and most of the comments were positive. This place did not disappoint! We opted for take-out for our "date night". I like to eat out at places that offers dishes that I've never made successfully at home - and that would include Thai food. We used to go to the Royal Thai in SF, but there's absolutely no parking within walking distance to Clement St. So we do know a bit about great Thai food, and Pacifica Thai is now included in our regular rotation. We had Chicken Satay (which I always judge a Thai restaurant on) and it was done perfectly, with a very balanced peanut sauce and cucumber salad along side. We also had Thai Egg Rolls (#2), BBQ Pork (#32) and Thai Beef Curry w/basil (#41). We also ordered "rice for two" that was huge - enough for 4. To be honest, there was so much food that we couldn't even get to the curry. And those light and fluffy shrimp chips are soooo addicting. They offer an extensive menu, great sauces, and the BBQ Pork was marinated and cooked perfectly. Tonight, we dive into the curry and the rest of the rice! Folks, the new normal is higher prices. Workers, wait staff and cooks have left the restaurant business due to COVID; keeping the proper amount of meat, chicken, fish and shellfish, and fresh vegetables on hand for any restaurant is no small feat. Given the not-insignificant number of negative reviews about this place, my boyfriend and I were a bit hesitant to eat here, but we finally bit the bullet and we're glad we did! The legendary elderly owner greeted and seated us almost entirely without speaking, though when my boyfriend ordered the same thing as I did, the owner insisted that he try something different (so we could each taste each other's food) and then chose the order for him. I can see how this might be off-putting to some folks but we got a kick out of it! The casual atmosphere and unique decor were also a plus. This place is not posh by any means, but it definitely has character and we were really digging it. We were given a couple glasses of water and our food came a few minutes later. We never felt rushed or watched or unwelcome. The service was quick and the portions generous. We both ended up with leftovers so ultimately we got 4 very tasty meals for ~$27. On our way out we made sure to thank the woman at the back (Joy?) and she was very kind and friendly. Some reviews mention being overcharged - I'm wondering if that's because of the rice? We didn't order rice but it was included in our order for $4. My boyfriend wanted some anyway so we didn't mind, but if you don't want rice (or aren't expecting to pay an extra $4), it's best to mention it. Note for those with food allergies: I'm allergic to grain and dairy (one or both of which are often lurking in even the most unexpected dishes) so eating at restaurants makes me nervous, but I had the kaeng kiew wan kai (#34) and suffered no ill effects. So if you've got similar issues, please know that there is at least one safe thing on the menu! I'll be trying others when I soon return. read more

We always get Tom Ka Kai, and this is some of the best I've ever had. My hubby lived in Thailand for 2 years and he said the food was very good. Thai decor is cluttered and unsophisticated, but we didn't mind. An older man served us, who didn't smile and said very little. After a hike at the nearby Devil's Slide Trail, I was famished and craving a nice warm meal. I phoned in for a pickup order and ordered the Kai-Yang which is barbacue chicken with oriental spices and a side of rice. The chicken was flavorful, plentiful and tender. The steamed rice was a perfect companion to the chicken and done well. The customer service was smooth from the phone order to the pickup. First of all, I want to say that the only reason why I came here was because of the 15$ coupon on Groupon. I was born in Southeast Asia and therefore am very fond of the type of mushrooms and other ingredients that they use. They really are 'authentic' However, the old guy waiter here is quite unpleasant. I was a bit dubious about the negative reviews I've read prior to using my Groupon here as well. Yes the "old man" is categorized as a "curmudgeon"... yes the reviews prior was somewhat accurate about the limited value and the switch and bait (paid $25 for $55 value). But then you can ONLY order $8 items. Meaning the $25 I paid for was only good for $25 ($8 entree x 2 + $8 appetizer). The Thai Icea tea was part of the groupon, so this was the only savings. BUT... the food was good! Calamari was tender and not chewy. Sauce was tasty with fresh ingrediants. And the old man wasn't so bad (he just doesn't speak English that well or at all), he eventually opened up and said he been doing this for 30 years even though he wasn't happy to see the Groupon. Smile goes a long way to make even curmudgeon open up. Remember Groupon is a marketing tool that is meant to get you in the door. The real question here is WHO did the marketing. The sales guy who sold the Groupon to mom and pop owner and made the ad to get the sale or these owners who dont speak English? (I hear restaurant owners make less than 50% of paid Groupon value). Bottom line: If you like Thai food (slim pickings in Pacifica), this place is a place I will return as the food is what counts. I really came here for the old waiter dude. With all the reviews talking about him, I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I've eaten about all of the thai resturaunts in the SSF, Daly city and surrounding area so I decided I wanted to try this "new" place out. Upon entering, I realized what everyone was talking about. It was around 1:30pm on a tuesday and there was only one other party seated. The lone waiter, an asian man in his 50's, maybe early 60s is doing the tables. He just looks up and I throw up the deuces letting him know that me and my lady want a nice table. He nonchalantly responds by pointing in an empty space of the dining area. So we took a seat, waited for about 30 seconds and he came back to plop the menus on our table. A few minutes later he came back with his pen and pad. We ordered the fried chicken wings, pad see ew, chicken fried rice and a thai iced coffee. Our response? "mm" and he left. Just like that we weren't sure if he got our order correctly or he had to suddenly go to the bathroom. Fast forward. The food came out just like we had ordered it. I asked for some chili peppers and he brought by the whole enchilada. You know the asian round wheel thing with the soy sauce, pepper, chilis, etc. Regardless, none of the spices were hot enough but that's just us. We like our thai food spicy but have been unable to find any spicy thai food in the area. Overall the food was alright. The pad see ew was disgusting though. Noodles were super dry and hard. Probably been sitting a little too long. It was also drenched in sauce and overpowering. Just straight up salty blackness mixed with oil. One of the worst I have ever eaten. real talk. The fried chicken wings was a straight rip off. 8 wings for about $8. They were those little itty bitty ones too. Probably non-gmo so they weren't fattened up like ones you would find at buffalo wild wings or kfc. Too expensive bro. get real. The flavor was typical, nothing special. It's just not good enough for me to spend another thirty five bucks for two people.
