My wife and I got nothing but good vibes from the moment we arrived here. Something I never thought about going to an establishment, are the patrons. Everyone around us waiting for food were kind and spoke to us as if we've known them for years. The owner was there, and came out to greet everyone, walked my wife and I through the menu(because we haven't been here before), and joked with the elderly couple beside us. The restaurant was clean, and pretty easy to find and get parking. Since it was takeout only due to COVID, my wife and I ate at the beachside picnic area just down the street. Their prices have been updated and it's not considered that cheap anymore(that was the main reason I came here so many times before). But I am glad they didn't hike up the prices in addition to making the portions small. The portions are still the same size as before. The many times I've been here, I order their red curry, tom yum soup, pad thai, with a thai milk tea. Their pad that isn't my favorite though all of their food is consistent. If you've already ordered it once and liked it, you can order it again in confidence that it'll be the same. It's a stable, home-like type vibe here filled with nice decorations. This is by far the WORSE Thai restaurant I have ever been to. I came with a friend for lunch, the restaurant we intended on going to was closed. We were greeted by an elderly man that was borderline rude. Couldn't understand everything he was trying to say and didn't answer my questions. We usually order an appetizer & 2 dishes to share. We ordered: Fish cakes, served with a sweet cucumber sauce. The fish cakes were good, the cucumbers in the sauce was old and soggy so it ruined the sauce I ordered the lunch special of Pad see ew with beef but the old man said it was a small order and wouldn't be enough so he ordered the entree. This dish was disgusting, they put way too much sugar in it and it was swimming in oil. When you tilt the plate, there is about 2 tablespoons of oil. Pad kha prow kai with pork: I ordered the lunch special which comes with rice and this time he just took it upon himself to order the entree which does not come with rice so we had to spend another $3. A lousy $55 lunch, I guess they upgrade your order to make more money. There was 1 take out order during the time we were there and no other customers. Gee, I wonder why. I really struggled with whether this should be 3 or 4 stars - due to the service and overall ambiance I had to keep this at 3 but should be closer to 3 1/2 stars based on food. I'm SO glad I read the reviews before we tried this place. We went on a weekday during lunch. The older gentleman who served us moved very slow, did not smile and barely said 2 words to us. I was prepared for this due to having read the reviews so it was what it was and we had a good chuckle about it while we were there. With that said, I think they would do much better if they provided friendlier service - but it will not necessarily deter me from going back. The older women was friendly and thanked us when we left. We might opt to do takeout next time, or not...I don't know. I kind of like the grumpy man : ) As far as the food, this is what we ordered: I asked for the Vegetable Egg Roll (maybe I should have said vegetarian) but what we got was the Thai Egg Roll I think because it definitely had chicken in it and it wasn't ground chicken from what I could tell it was pieces of chicken. Regardless - it was delicious and probably my favorite thing that we ordered! The egg rolls were cut into bite sized pieces, perfect for 2 people. They were fresh, hot and crispy, served with yummy sweet and sour sauce. Next was the Pad-See-Ew (chicken) - this was tasty. Hubby liked it a little more than me but I didn't dislike it. Green Papaya Salad - we enjoyed this. It was full of flavor, sweet and tangy, fresh and light. Sticky Rice - I've never seen rice served like this and I've been to a few Thai places. It came divided up into a few baggies. It was good and as it sounds - white, sticky rice. Chicken Satay - another favorite. It had such a nice curry flavor and a couple of dipping sauces, very yummy with the white sticky rice. All in all we had a decent experience and the food was good. Food and service was a lot worse than last time. There was an elderly gentlemen trying to serve/wait on the whole restaurant and he was very grumpy and not very happy to be working there. The Penang curry wasn't anything like a Penang curry. The pineapple fried rice had a weird smell. The chicken satays were good. The green curry was watery. We had to ask for hot sauces to help get some flavor into the food. Service was fast though. Finally we got a bill that seemed to be written in Thai language. Love the old man. Was hungry and stumbled across this place, gave it a try. We had this grumpy old man as our waiter. Was actually really fun when he served us for some reason. Something about how grumpy he was reminded me of someone from my memories, so very nice. If you like being treated like royalty, don't come here. But if you like being reminded about that time you argued with your parents but they still angrily handed you food, come here, very authentic. The food was good too, and we got it very quickly. So we haven't been here since my son was like 2, so that more than a decade. The place as I recall hasn't changed much. Fast friendly family here. I came with the wife for a Friday dinner. Had and appetizer, two entrees rice and mango sticky rice for dessert and left satisfied. They give you a lot of food for the money. Very nice place, I would have to say it's not fancy but your in Pacifica, it's not gonna be white table cloth with French wine. I am not Thai, nor am I a super authentic person to say this was that type of restaurant. I will have to say that the people are nice if you are nice to them. Easy to find, right on the main road and comes with it's own lot. The online menu was easy to follow and we ordered upon arrival. They were really nice and let me use there restroom, even though they were closed for eating in. That was a huge perk. We ordered Tom Kha (Soup) and a rice dish (Chicken with eggplant. Both were very tasty. I ordered the vegetable soup and it was filled with more vegetables then I've ever had in the soup. It's usually tofu with a little carrot and cabbage. Went here with a friend, we had the Thai chicken basil, the fried chicken, rice and an egg roll for an appetizer. Before I ordered the fried chicken I asked if there was anything sour I can put on top of it. She brought me every sour sauce she had when she brought my food. I thought that was really awesome. Every couple of years I try Pacifica Thai Cuisine hoping that things have improved, and every time I experience the same, Thai food with all the joy and feeling sucked out of it. Flavors are muted, there's not even a hint of spice, the sauces are lackluster, there's no attempt for eye appeal -- they're really just going through the motions. On the most recent attempt I tried: - #6 Peak Kai Tod - Fried stuffed boneless chicken wings, $9.95 - #30 Kai Yang - Thai Barbecue Chicken, $11.95 -#60 Pla Kriew Wan - Red Snapper with Green Curry & Mixed Vegetables $13.95 For $9.95 you got two wings and a runny "sweet spicy" dipping sauce that tasted like it came from a bottle but had a bunch of water added. The barbecue chicken was skinless, butterflied chicken thighs which looked and tasted like they were simmered in bottled teriyaki sauce without even being in the same room as a grill (tender from the stewing, tho). The red snapper started with a decent pan fry, had a tasty but dialed down to 30% green curry sauce, and vegetables dominated by broccoli stalk, not a floret anywhere. WARNING - The prices on their website are out of date, actual prices are around $2 per dish higher (current menu scan attached). I was introduced to Thai food when I was just a teenager when my mom befriended a Thai restaurant owner & it has been one of my favorite cuisines ever since. Another Saturday and another hunt for somewhere to eat. we decided Pacifica Thai Cuisine Driving up to the place I didn't think it looked much like a restaurant...maybe it was because it was dark but if it hadn't been for the large sign out the front we would have probably completely missed it. Parking wasn't a problem as they have a huge parking lot right next door. We walk in and immediately notice the ornamental decorations and plants - a nice personal touch and felt quite homely. An older gentleman greets us and directs us to a table in the quieter half of the restaurant which has 2 sections. I take in the surrounding for a minute and note that the flashing coloured lights in the window we are sat next to are a little too much. Lucky I'm not epileptic. Although already knowing what we want to order we browse the menu anyway which is quite extensive and with numerous spelling mistakes which we have a short giggle at. It also has pictures.. this confuses me a little as it brings up mixed emotions and pre assumptions of the food.. I like the fact I can see what I order beforehand so I know what I'm getting but words of Gordon Ramsay flick through my head... '' a good restaurant doesn't need or have pictures on the menu'''. The gentleman who I assume is probably the owner comes to take our order and although clearly English doesn't come too easily to him he is very polite and we order our food. The Appetizer comes very quickly but is barely on our table 2 minutes when our Entrée arrives *sad face*. I like to have time to eat the appetizer before I have my main meal but it's ok, it doesn't really faze me this time. My thoughts of the food: We did order one side of Sticky Rice and one side of Coconut Jasmine Rice but ended up getting 2 sides of Sticky. I didn't say anything though as I don't like to cause a fuss. Thai Egg Rolls: Came out on a bed of lettuce and carrot with a slice of Fresh Orange (which I ate immediately, it looked so good I couldn't help myself) with a small dish of Sweet & Sour sauce. The rolls themselves were very very hot! Texture of the roll was perfect - Crispy and slightly flaky without being greasy. The soft filling was a nice contrast to the crisp and had just the right amount Chicken and Vegetable filling. ''Kaeng-Kari-Kai'' (Yellow Curry): First thing I notice is the portion size - it's big! Easily enough for two people. Lot's of boneless Chicken with Carrots, Onions and Potato. The fact that there was lot's of Carrot made me feel a little less guilty about having Curry too. Plus it just tastes better cooked in curry sauce! The taste was pretty good, A nice light Coconut flavour. I wouldn't say it was amazing or the best Yellow Curry I've tasted, there was just something missing.. what I don't know exactly but it was enjoyable nonetheless. ''Chu-Chee-Kai'' (Red Curry): I wasn't keen on this one. The taste is something I just can't describe.. it was overpowered by an ingredient I just couldn't place.. Basil? Cilantro? Lime? The Chicken was cooked nicely though and I had a couple of bits but isn't something I could eat a whole portion of. Shame. Husband thoughts on the food: Thai Egg Rolls: ''Oooh they're really hot and crispy. The filling is nice too.'' ''Kaeng-Kari-Kai'' (Yellow Curry): ''It's like an Indian Curry gone wrong... it's ok though. I prefer this one'' ''Chu-Chee-Kai'' (Red Curry): HIM: ''Hhmm.. it tastes really minty.'' He then picks out a bit of basil and flicks it across the plate ''and there's too much plant life'' ME: ''Uuumm... ok. Anything else? Something positive maybe?'' HIM: ''Well.. it's edible'' Oh yes, my husband who almost always has something to say not being very helpful or positive.. thank you! Decor: 4/5 from both of us. Food: 3/5 from me and 2/5 from grumpy there Service: 4/5 from both of us This is a nice little place to eat at, looking at the surroundings it's almost as if you've been invited into someone's home but unfortunately the food wasn't anything special. The price was also slightly more than we pay compared to a place a lot closer to our home where food is more enjoyable so I don't know if we will be likely to come back here. The man who serves us, I believe the owner was very stern and lack personality when we were seated. I made it a mission to make him crack a smile. We ordered our normal Thai favorites; Tom Yum, Thai fried rice, yellow curry w chicken, saw tay, egg plant and pai Thai. The soup was on the sweet side, the curry was very thin and lacked flavor, the pad Thai and egg plant was ok. I made several comments to the owner about weather and such. He finally warmed up to us and smiled. At the end of the meal, he brought out a bag of shrimp chips. I was hankering for some Thai food but didn't want to stray too far. I found Pacifica Thai Cuisine on yelp and thought I'd give it a try since it had good reviews and why not go for a drive down highway 1? I was kinda disappointed with the entire experience. Reviews said the service was good but I didn't think so. They have a long menu and I wanted to read all of it before deciding on what to get. But the guy barely gave me a minute to look before coming over with his order pad. I politely said that I wasn't ready and needed more time. He looked kinda grumpy and walked away. Barely a minute later (and I still hasn't finished reading the menu), he came by again. I said I still wasn't ready and instead of walking away and giving me more time, he pointed at the pad thai and said "the pad thai is good". Well no shit, you're a Thai restaurant, I bet you would say your pad thai is good. Since I didn't know exactly what I wanted, I ordered the papaya salad and pad kee mao, a staple order that I use as a measuring stick. He asked how spicy for the papaya salad and I said mild/a little bit. The food came out really fast. The papaya salad was strange. There was peanut sauce, which I haven't seen before on papaya salad. Also it wasn't as tangy as I'm used to and it definitely wasn't spicy at all, even though I asked for it to be a little spicy. Maybe he made an executive decision for me on the spice level. Hmmmmm.... The pad kee mao was okay. It was too sweet and not spicy enough. The meat was kinda dry too. All in all it was disappointing. Absolute diamond in the ruff. Looked at reviews and pics and none really did much justice to how delicious and charming this family owned business is. So took a chance and decided to eat here with the fam. The waiter who reminded me of my Yeh Yeh (grandpa) seated us and took our order. Short and to the point he was and charming. Som tum salad...amazing, flavorful fried rice, and pad soon sen was on point! I recommend this restaurant. Chicken satay hardly made it in the pics. I love this local restaurant run by a sweet family (even the grandpa :)) and the best thing about it is it's open on Mondays! A rare treat in this town. While their pad Thai isn't my favorite, their pad see-ew, vegetarian egg rolls, papaya salad, and eggplant tofu are all incredible. They also often throw in shrimp chips or tapioca jello with most orders. We order from here at least once a month. Had such a great experience grabbing takeout from here! Parking was phenomenal, the staff were incredibly friendly, and the food was DELICIOUS and the portions were very large! The Thai iced tea I received was the biggest I've ever gotten at any Thai restaurant before and was also the least expensive I've ever gotten, so it was a win-win. One of my go-to Thai spots in this part of the Peninsula. My favorites are the pad Thai, beef panang curry, bbq chicken with sticky rice, and crab fried rice. Ask for a baggie of shrimp chips if available! I've enjoyed everything I've had here and the food comes out fairly quickly. The Thai tea is also a good refreshment. The mango sticky rice dessert is tasty, but not the best I've had. The same goes for the fried banana dessert, although they serve it with a really good variety of coconut ice cream. I'd love to try the ginger cake others have mentioned in their reviews. The prices are average for the area and portions are generous. The ambiance is cozy and a bit weathered, but comfortable enough for a low key dinner with friends/family. I'll be back! read more
