I feel horrible writing this.. But it has to be done. We had fun reading all of the different spellings of words. And the fact that my menu had more pages and different prices than my moms. Ordered our food. And thats when the disappointment started. Our appetizer was ordered then it took a while to get the servers attention to order our entrees. We got our "stuffed fried chicken wings" and they were not stuffed at all. And the drumsticks were as big as my thumb. No joke. Really puny things. They were fried, not sure how they didnt loose them in the frier though. Mom called the appetizer "a money donation to the family" We then got our entrees. The panang beef for my mom. And the spicy asparagus, prawns, and scallops dish for me. My moms panang was grainy and tasted raw and not the normal sweet and tangy combination it normally does. We actually sent that back and they brought it back tasting more like panang curry she ordered, but they never asked spicy leval so it was extremely mild. My asparagus,prawns, and scallops... Umm.. Was just prawns on chopped up lettuce. No asparagus, or veggies, or scallops.. Also did not have any spices that tasted thai to me. It was beyond disappointing. We sat for a long while with empty plates (because we were starving we ate all of it) we ended up getting up to ask for our bill. And once we got it. The guy took off even though i had card in hand and put it in the tray before he let go of it with his hand. Had to wait for him to come back, then process it. And when he dropped the tray he pointed at me and muttered something that sounded negative in another language. All in all it was rather disappointing. Tried this place for the first time yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed the yellow curry, pad thai, and the eggplant dish with chicken and shrimp. I ordered a thai ice tea too and couldn't believe the size of it for the price that they charge. What made it even more enjoyable is the banter with the owners. I've been a patron of Pacifica Thai since the mid-90's. The restaurant is still owned and operated by the same husband and wife team. The food is incredibly good, and has been consistently delicious all these years. I love the chicken satay, such a simple dish yet the flavor is complex. I've tried many of their appetizers, entrees, soups over the years, you can't order wrong. Lastly... don't forget the the dessert. The fried ice cream and mango rice pudding is to die for. The food is good, home style Thai food indicative of this family restaurant. The owner is an elderly gentleman, a quiet soul who has been a calm presence here for decades. And as I've been coming here for decades, he has been a rock and a proven good neighbor. The food is consistent and freshly prepared. We have our favorites, such as the corn cakes and tofu todd, basil eggplant and Pad Thai, and the Beef Nom Tuk. Any of the sweets will please, and we almost always order sticky rice with mango or fried banana & ice cream [FBI]. The daughter, who sometimes cooks and sometimes serves, is as welcoming and pleasant as anyone could want; reminding you that this is indeed a family business. I'm not normally a reviewer, but I need to comment on this restaurant. The elderly man (who should not be allowed to interact with patrons) taking orders seemed annoyed when he saw the 3 of us walk in, and we were his first customers of the day. When he reluctantly came to take our order, he said nothing, literally turned his back to us, waited for us to place our order, and walked away in silence. The small portions of food were soon delivered with the same silence and apathy as the order taken. Both dishes were undersized, tasteless, and odd smelling, and the 3 of us didn't finish 2 small servings. Also, no drink orders were taken, no water was offered, and I had to go to the nice cook in the back to get us water. I have been here 3 times over the last few years. Each and every time I'm disappointed. The food is average at best, but the customer service is terrible. The older gentleman (who I believe is the owner) is grumpy and makes things feel very uncomfortable. Unfortunately, Pacifica doesn't have any other Thai food options. Probably the worst service I've had in quite a while. No greetings, no checking in during meal, no "thank you" or "bye". Stares at you like you're a stray. Mumbles instead of talking to you. Very pushy to get you to order something without any courteous wait (even if I already told him I needed sometime to take a look at the menus and he came to the table without me even finishing reading the first menu, holding the little notebook and waiting aside of the table). The older waiter guy was not accommodating. I asked for my dish extra, extra spicy, to make it spicy like people in Thai have it (I can handle a lot of spice). But, he refused. He told me that I would just send the dish back. I assured him that I wouldn't, so he chuckled and walked away. He brought it out, mild, zero spice, no flavor. He didn't even ask the kitchen. He decided that I wouldn't want it spicy, so he didn't even relay the message. I don't understand why customer service has gotten so bad. I will NEVER return. Older gentleman that took our order was probably not intended to serve customers. I wouldn't say he was rude just completely not interested with serving customers. My wife and I somewhat looked at each other wondering if this was really happening. There could be a language barrier as well but based on the other reviews left here it seems like this person has been this way for awhile. If you can successfully get an order through the food is actually pretty good. We got the pad se ew and fried rice. Pretty basic dishes and they were great. Not too much flavor. Cooked well. Never call in to order!! My wife, who is 100% Thai born and raised, called in to order and while she was making her selections from the Yelp menu, he was so rude. Telling her to hurry up and as she started to order he got impatient and hung up on her!!! Wow!!! Rude!! Disrespectful!! I then called him back and told him how rude he was. He said he had a customer and that's why he hung up. How about "Can I put you on hold? I have a customer". Instead....Click. We decided to eat somewhere else. Very, very good Thai cuisine. Their only problem is location. Some of the best Thai food in the peninsula portion of the Bay Area, but their location is crap. The food is really great here and they always have it ready in 20 minutes if you call in your order. They give a huge side of rice, too. We always order the Larb Gai, Eggplant and Tofu stir fry and our kiddo gets the Pad Thai. read more

this is my favorite place to go for thai, hands down. I always get the chicken Pad Panang with sticky rice. mmmmmmmmmmmmm. I'm drooling just thinking about it. the atmosphere is quaint and hilarious. the menu seems to have leaked all over the place, hanging from the ceilings, on the surface of the table, all over the walls. its like all the dishes are screaming "try me!" "no, try me!" I will never waiver from my beloved pad panang, though. the best part is that all the signs have horribly funny engrish spelling. heehee! eta: still love this place, just wanted to add that the tofu pad panang is equally as delicious for the vegetarians, etc. read more

A really wonderful restaurant! My girlfriend and I went for the lunch special today. The food was really great and affordable, we got two lunches and an appetizer for under $25. My husband and I have been making our weekly trip here for almost a decade. We live in the city but make time to stop over at our friend from visiting the beach. The food has always been good, generous portion and where else can you get a dinner for two at $20 tax included??!! Some dishes are very authentic like using fermented bean paste. The dessert menu is also extensive beyond the typical mango sticky rice. All in all a solid Thai eatery. We know the owner and the kitchen staff over the years and these people work their butts off for their children to have better lives here. The owner is, if anything, culturally eclectic but a sweet man when you get to talk to him. Look around the place you'll find a history of the owner's life in Pacifica. We have been ordering take out here a lot since quarantine started. Papaya salad, Tom kha, and shrimp dish is delish and the portions are great for the price. Could I give zero stars? Unfortunately I know I can't. Anyways, when we went inside the only person there was an older man who didn't say hi just asked how many and pointed to a table. He rushed us to order and would ignore our questions and ignored the fact that we weren't ready 30 seconds after he sat us down...literally. He charged us full price for lunch menu specials, messed up the orders, and forgot drinks. I door-dashed the food to my friend's house last night to try out the restaurant and my friend refused to touch it. Yeah- it didn't even smell right. I ate a little. I have a feeling that they put wayyyy too much fish sauce in the Tom yum and the pad see ew. I've eaten a ton of Thai... and I can say hands down that I have never left a scrap of food on my plate. However, today is a first: both the larb salad and the green chicken curry will remain half eaten. Half, only because I was famished and needed a meal. And even for famished, it wasn't good. The larb had a texture I have never seen before, gritty and soggy at the same time. The subtle fragrances I'm accustomed to smelling weren't there, just an odd undertone. The Green Curry, a dish that just can't go wrong, was watery and devoid of flavor. It was akin to chicken in water. Even the green color was off. And the Diet Coke in a can... also tasteless!!! I had their panang curry and it was really boring with just chicken, sauce, and some veggies. I am pretty disappointed by all the bad reviews of the place, too many salty people! This is my go-to thai food place. Been coming here for about a year with friends and family, or just picking up some for myself. First off let me say that if your looking for some fancy restaurant that will serve you like kings and Queens, this is not the place for you! However, if you are looking for some amazingly delicious food at a great price (10$ for a plate that I always end up taking home) then please please please check this place out. I come back here almost weekly. It's that good! My favorites are the ginger salmon fried rice, chicken pad thai, and scallop asparagus curry. I try to get something different each time and have never been disappointed. Also don't mind the old thai fellow who waits the tables. He doesn't talk much and doesn't speak much English.
