Really enjoyed going getting back into yoga here - the teacher was great and it's a nice studio. I love how there's fresh fruit, drinks and a backyard patio to socialize in after class where everyone is invited. More yoga studios should have this! I actually went to yoga this morning... I got up at 5am and was determined to go to the 6am class today , and I went! I have been going to this studio on and off since 2008. I was a bit skeptical going back because the place had undergone new ownership, but when I attended class this morning I knew my inhibitions were just in my head. Anyway, back to the review--- I had purchased a month of unlimited yoga, I started today, and I am determined to go tomorrow morning again. The first few classes are always the hardest becuase the body is getting rid of all the toxins. I highly recommend this to anyone trying to improve their health. In this studio, it is all on you, there aren't any judgements,you can feel comfortable , it's not like a gym where every one is looking at each other, it's a nice place--good way to start the morning. Love this studio! I truly believe that everyone can benefit from hot yoga and this studio welcomes everyone! You don't need to have perfect practice or body to feel comfortable during class. There is plenty of space and you aren't rushed out of the room for the next class. Also, You can cool down and linger as long as you like in the garden behind the studio. Since I've committed to coming 3 days a week I've lost 15 pounds, have more strength and flexibility, and a better sense of well being. This studio was different for me because when I was at the many points where I wanted to quit, the teachers were encouraging and said the right things to keep me going to one more class. I have arthritis in my feet and no flexibility, so I started waaay behind the curve. I'm so glad I kept coming back because I feel better than I ever expected. read more

Hot Yoga is quickly becoming a passion for me, and this little studio in Pacifica is a large part of the reason (although the precepts of Bikram resonate with my evolving holistic philosophy pretty tidily.) I threatened to friends and family that I was going to bravely walk in a studio knowing nothing with muscles and tendons as rigid as granite and just do it. In actuality, I worried and researched and postponed for a month. I was really afraid to walk in a studio cold, but I finally found a good deal for beginners ($10 for an unlimited week) and walked in I think what I was most concerned about is that some mean, incredibly flexible 20 year old was going to assume I couldn't possibly be as inflexible as my lame stretches seemed to portray - and they would berate me or humiliate me to TRY HARDER. No fears at Pacifica Beach Yoga. Tommy is a darling, patient, professional yogi - and very helpful and supportive. I haven't experienced other yogis yet, but I feel relaxed about further investigation because Tommy is the owner - and I'm sure his supportive, respectful philosophy translated to staff. The poses are impossible for the newby, but Tommy (and likely other practice leaders) say this in class - do your modifications, listen to your body, do your personal best. My Hot practice is only a week old, but I feel changes in my body, a strength that I love in places I never felt it before, and increased flexibility, lung function, and balance. There are 26 basic poses in Bikram Hot with 2 breathing exercises. THE FLOORING is this awesome warm spongy material. I've heard Bikram studios primarily use carpet - which people increasingly report to be unhygienic...and other types of flooring are largely unsafe with all the sweating. This flooring is wonderful and recently installed. I'm only adjusting one star to reflect challenges in the changing area. As you enter, there is a very small area where you hang your belongings, leave shoes etc. Only three people can comfortably stand in that space and retrieve belongings. Although the class disperses individually in small numbers, this does create a bit of a boondoggle. Still, heartily recommend. :) read more

I have practiced bikram yoga for 4 years, 2 years at this studio when it was Pacifica Yoga. Always love this studio, more especially when it has been revamped. Teachers and students like us are very excited of the change. This studio is small and intimate, and the very place where i learned the correct bikram poses. The teachers know every student's potential and are very encouranging. The students are your neighborhood people who practice yoga together with you and not compete with you on every pose, that happen alot in other studios. If you want REAL yoga...come here. I don't know if it really needs another excellent review- it already has great ratings! Anyway, this is my go-to yoga studio. They have a really cheap 1-week trial period, so no loss to try it out. I like how they have extended the product offering and started listing the instructor for each class on the website. Another change if you haven't been in a while- more diverse class times. In my experience, I tried 1 bikram class and power vinyasa during my first week. I found Bikram too intense to start off, but really enjoyed the heated vinyasa flow. I now also mix up my schedule with Bikram and yin yoga. They have some other fun special events- like glow-in-the-dark with party music. read more

Although he mumbled his dissatisfaction, he did honor my groupon voucher. I went to his Bikram classes. Felt almost die everytime. After trying out for 5 sessions, I know I will not do any Bikram in the future. I decided not to continue with the studio because they are canceling their not hot classes. I've been to many different Bikram Yoga studios in different cities, but this one is definitely one of my faves. Though this yoga is a lot less commercial and more intimate, I personally like it so much better. There are no showers, no lockers, and only 1 unisex bathroom. If these are requirements you need for a hot yoga studio, then this one isn't for you. But if you're looking for great instructors, a lounge/backyard area to chill after your class, seeing familiar yogis who attend the same classes as you, a variety of hot yoga classes to attend (so you're not bored of JUST Bikram or JUST Vinyasa classes), 60-minute Bikram classes (instead of 90 minutes [though 90min classes are still offered]), and fresh air coming into the studio during your practice, then this studio might just be for you! I think the biggest plus for me is just having a variety of yoga classes so you're not always doing the same practice. And since I go to the weekday classes after work hours, scheduling works with my routine really well. Most yogis are locals around the area- and Pacifica is typically a really chill city (though hella foggy :-P). There is no parking lot but surprisingly it's also not too bad. Usually when you go after previous classes are over, there are open spots from people leaving class. Definitely try it out! I'm glad I did. read more

I stumbled upon a coupon on Groupon for Pacifica Beach Yoga. I had never done any yoga before let alone hot Bikram. I discussed it with my wife and pulled the trigger. She had practiced yoga before and came with me for my first time. Fast forward a month, I now go 5 days a week. Tommy the owner is a great person. He made us feel comfortable from the moment we first walked in and keeps the studio spotless. Tommy really cares about his students and their progression. It's always nice to see him and I enjoy when he teaches class. I also have to tell you that all the instructors are great, there aren't many so you get to know them. Each one has their own tips on correctly adjusting yourself during the poses and breathing exercises. This is great because you start to string them together and you know you're doing them right. The classes are never overcrowded, so you do not ever feel rushed to get there. There is plenty of parking and they sell bottled water. I cannot say enough great things about the owner, the facility, the teachers and my fellow disciplined students. Just come down and give it a try. Like Tommy will tell you and I do concur, Yoga will change your life. And I wouldn't want to do it anywhere else. D.B. read more

A friend of mine gave me a Groupon for Pacifica Beach Yoga, but I was hesitant to try it out. I'm 48, not very flexible (although fairly fit), and I wasn't sure if I'd like sweating that much. But I thought I'd give it a shot, and after 5 classes in March, I bought a multi-class pass. I try to go twice a week, and I've definitely seen an overall improvement in my balance and focus. It's a great way to de-stress from the rest of the day. I admit that I don't have the experience to compare this studios to others, but I've found it to have a very inviting, comfortable atmosphere. Tommy and the other teachers encourage everyone to do their own personal best, offering suggestions and tweeks on the different postures. Each time I go, I learn something to refine my own practice. There have been recent improvements to the studio, including an expanded class schedule. I especially love the back patio - a great place to relax surrounded by blooming plants, a fire pit, and a water feature. Tommy is clearly proud of his studio, and he should be! read more

Wow, what can I say... Pacifica Beach Yoga has become one of my favorite places that I look forward to going to each time I schedule myself for a class. I moved to Pacifica in early September '17 and I had noticed this studio the day that I went to check out an apartment nearby. My new roommate recommended Pacifica Beach Yoga when I told her Yoga was my thing. Once she told me about the outdoor patio, I knew I had to look into it. Once I checked out the website and took a look at their schedule and reviews, I knew I would purchase a new student pass once I moved to the area. What I love about this studio: - Owner and teachers are fabulous - all of the staff here are very friendly and great teachers. I especially enjoy classes with Kristin and Jami, both who have a great style and bring a warmth to the studio. I've taken one class with Jaime, which I really enjoyed and he was actually the first person I came into contact with when I visited the studio for the first time. He is so absolutely friendly and always such a positive energy. - Students here are great - everyone that comes to this studio is friendly and always open to saying hello or chatting before/after class. There is a really great energy to this place which you don't experience at other yoga studios. - Schedule/variety/quantity/pricing of classes - I really appreciate the way that the classes are scheduled here and the number of classes available. There's a time for everyone to make it to. I also love the variety of classes - I can get a little bit of everything throughout the week - not only can I get a good solid/cardio workout, I can also get a relaxing/meditative session in. I love Bikram 60, Heated Vinyasa Flow, Hatha, Inferno Pilates and Yin Yoga. Although I love all classes, I look most forward to Yin Yoga every week. Nothing else makes me feel more zenned out. And you can't beat $89/month unlimited with an auto renewal! - OUTDOOR PATIO - those two words say enough, but really though, their outdoor patio is a dream. Clean, succulents, fire pit, and there's always fresh fruit. There's really not much that can beat ending my weekday here after a Yoga class. I admit it, I was a hot yoga skeptic. I've practiced various types of yoga for many, many years and still do. But Pacifica Beach Yoga is just two short, hilly blocks from my house. Soooo, no excuse! After four years of turning my nose up at hot yoga thinking it made your body do things it wasn't ready to do, driving by it every day - well - I am a convert! The space is small and cozy. I really enjoy all of the instructors and what they each bring to the practice space, and have noticed a difference over the past few months with Neal at the front desk and Tommy in the room. (please keep those shivasana foot massages coming!) There is a nice mix of beginner-level 60-minute classes and more advanced 90-minute classes - I tend to prefer the 60-minute honestly due to time constraints and short attention span...lol. I appreciate Traci W's comments about the schedule, and as a working mom, I generally have a hard time getting to class with any consistency. However, with the addition of new classes in 2013, and weekend 5:00 classes I can at least make it on the weekends! For lots of us, convenience is everything. I have been going to this studio for 1 year now and I can say with all honesty it is everything you want from a Hot yoga studio. I have been to various studios around the bay area and this is the best Ive found. Hardly ever overcrowded. ..you can always find a space for your mat. The sudio is clean, hot ( which is good), and the instructors care about you and your practice. I wouldnt pay too much attention to the 1 star reviews. Sounds like the reviewers got caught up into someone else's drama. Lets stick to the Yoga...thats what you will be coming here for. The owners do whats best for their students and their business. I got the Groupon package and love this place! I originally started because of my back pain, and since regular physical therapy will not help, my doctor suggested pilates. Sadly, there are not a lot of physical therapy pilates places near me that accepts my insurance. I looked around on the internet and thought of just doing hot pilates. This hot pilates class is awesome! It helped my back out so much, especially since it is like 90 degrees in the room! Felicia knows what she is doing and it was so fun going to her classes. Unfortunately, she only has one class a week now and I have school. The other classes are ok. Don't get me wrong, the other instructors are really nice, but Felicia has this vibe to her that makes me want to workout! She is such a challenge, and that is the best part of her class. My Groupon has obviously ended now, and I do recommend coming here if you just want to relax and sweat! The room is clean and small. Sadly though, I feel no reason to continue because Felicia only has one class a week at noon and all the other classes just do not compare. :( read more

I love this little gem of a studio! What better time to practice everyday when out of town sans kids and husband. My friend was busy with her kids giving me ample opportunity to experience this studio to the fullest. I tried Bikram style 60 minute, yin, hot inferno Pilates, and Fit classes. All of these offerings were beautifully taught and sequenced by Heather, Jamie M, Gloria, Trisha, and Tommy. Surprised to see anyone give a poor review. There is a great community at this studio, more so than at the other 20 studios I have visited over the years. The staff is friendly and knows each student by name. Try to arrive at least 5 minutes before class to allow ample time for parking, set up, and to situate yourself before class. The door is locked to protect people's belongings and to allow everyone to settle into the space before practice. Kudos to Tommy for incorporating all of my favorite yoga disciplines at one studio. I plan on returning when I visit in the Fall for workshops and practice. read more

I've always liked hot yoga, but I've been searching high and low for a vinyasa, power, or flow class taught in a hot room...all the benefits of the heat without the boredom of the repetitive postures. If you're like me, look no further because Pacifica Yoga delivers! The location is super easy to get to off the 280/1 and there is ample street parking! you can't beat it! They also have weekend classes at 10 and 12, so it doesn't eat up your entire day. The teachers are great, particularly Neil and Denise who are always patient and helpful. :) read more

I have been going to this yoga studio for years now. I really love this studio and the group of positive, pleasant people it attracts. In 2012 there had been many changes to the schedule of classes and I was sad when they reduced the offering of 9am bikram classes since it best suits my work schedule. However, after returning from winter break I was so pleased to find out they returned the weekday 9am classes as well as offered several additional classes throughout the day. I also returned to see a couple of new faces Neil and Tommy. Neil does a great job greeting, checking in students and running the business end of the studio. Tommy has been an awesome new yoga teacher. He's wonderful, supportive and motivational. During my first class with him, he shared a truly inspirational story about how yoga has transformed his life. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to practice their yoga or is interested in starting. There are some WONDERFUL people here. read more

I found this studio from ClassPass and have been coming here for the past 6 months. I've been taking the 60min Bikram classes which is just the right length if I'm looking for something to de-stress after a work day. I went to Daly City Bikram once and it had a complete opposite vibe. It's a smaller studio but it never gets super crowded and there's no lingering sweet smell. The instructors are motivating and really helpful for guiding you through the poses. Each class is just as challenging as the last. I also love how close to the beach this studio is. Sometimes I'll go for a walk or jog by the beach before class. Sooo relaxing! read more

My friend told me about this studio. So I decided to check it out since this studio offer power classes in a hot room. I am so happy that I did. Their instructors were great. I particular enjoyed Jennifer. She is amazing and very encouraging. I like that she always reminded her students to breath and ease into the poses. Which makes it easier to get into those hard poses. I really like this studio, the place is small compare to others but yet it does not bother me at all. The location is great with plenty of parking. The teachers are awesome. My only concern is sometimes the room gets a little cool when the teacher turns the fan on. This is not a big studio, so once you turn on the fan or open the door, then the cool air immediately kicks in. I don't mind the cool air at all, but please wait towards the end of the practice. Other than this, everything is awesome. I definitely comeback and recommend this studio to my family or friends. read more

I wasn't looking for a community when I came to this studio. I was looking to work out my frustrations at my new post-child(ren) body, quietly, in the corner - and hopefully that corner would be relatively clean. What I found was a group of people who enjoy their practice and teachers that are supportive and who have a sense of humor. And teachers that are obviously committed to their journey as well. What I found was that after a few classes crying, I laughed a few times. Then a lot. Then I appreciated the things that I could do again. Then I actually fell into meditation a few times. Then I couldn't live without it again. It is not an over-exaggeration to say that I might not have found my way back to my practice if it weren't for this studio. So . . . come. The owner sent me a private message last week saying "ugly Asian" I'm guessing as a response to my previous review and how uncomfortable I felt. Really professional. I would not recommend this business at all. Yoga studios are supposed to be a positive and comfortable place, and to get this kind of treatment from the owner is really pathetic. Owner refused to grant Groupon. I had been looking for a yoga studio in Pacifica for a while and saw the Groupon deal so I purchased it. After purchasing I went to the studio and saw they had a one week intro for $10 so I decided to save my Groupon and use that as well. Today when I tried to redeem my Groupon the owner refused because I was a customer in the previous weeks. Well the fine print says "Not valid for clients active within the past 12 month(s)" and that the Groupon must be redeemed within 45 days of purchase. When I bought the Groupon I was not a client. I asked the owner if he was willing to give up a potential long term customer over $29 and he said yes. So customer lost. The owner's attitude is terrible. Yoga studios are supposed to be welcoming not places of negative vibes and greed. Next time think long term, this could have been a positive review from a customer who would have purchased thousands of dollars worth of classes, now it's money lost and a 1 star review. read more

I am not a newbie in yoga and checked out this place because of the Groupon deal. Small & decent facility but the instructors in general are great. Special Shout out to Kristen. She's AWESOME. She embodies the yoginis and yoga teachers I had known throughout my years of yoga practice. Here's where this place is not for me though it may be great for other people. My experience unfortunately was not as what everyone hyped about here. I didn't get a chance to use all the hours I bought with Groupon, so the owner Tommy said he's willing to extend the time for me to use the hours if I bought additional package, which I did. BIG MISTAKE!!! As I originally explained since I travel for work and family medical crisis, I can't use all the hours. Same trick offered to me, buy more package and he would extend the time for me to use but after careful consideration, I declined. Even with the extended time, I would never be able to use the hours I paid for and I would fall into repetitive cycle of losing the unused paid hours unless I neglected my work and my family so I can go to this gym twice a day for four weeks! The final big blow: he wasn't as friendly as he tried to get me renew the first time. He was rude, impersonal and condescending downright patronizing in his emails. I'll go back to Yoga Works or other gym in the area. Plenty of options out there. read more

I would like to respond to the review by Christina N. from a few days ago. I was one of the two middle-aged men that took the class with you. First, I'd like to say that it's pretty rare for there to be a class that small, even at 6am, but it does happen sometimes. I'm sorry you felt uncomfortable being the only woman in the room with a couple of men. However, I'm a bit puzzled as to why as both of us were just there for our practice, nothing more. I don't think either one of us gave you much notice at any point before or during class. Both of us are regulars at the 6am class so Tommy doesn't feel he needs to make a lot of corrections with us. Moreover, since I am one of the studio's teachers, Tommy won't correct my postures in front of students, he waits to tell me in private. That's the way it is at most studios. I've practiced at many yoga studios, and my experience is that it is common for teachers to make corrections on students, especially with new students, often by lightly touching or guiding them into the correct alignment. They don't always ask as they are describing the posture to the entire class. I suppose that if Tommy was a young female yoga teacher, you may have been more comfortable with his corrections. But, since you were already uncomfortable by the lack of women in that particular class, that may have colored your reaction. It may be too late, but I would encourage you to give this studio another try. Often the 6am class has a good mix of people, real people, just doing their practice. You may also notice that there's a nice community that has developed at this place, due in large part to Tommy's efforts. Tommy himself has a very inspirational story to tell, if you give him a chance. There are a number of us middle-aged men, not all in the best shape, but we take our yoga seriously. We like to think that we inspire other people who are older and maybe not in the best shape to give yoga a try. It's the kind of studio where attitude is left at the door and most are there to work on themselves. It's just yoga. read more

I visited this studio a few months back on a month pass, in trying to find an ideal studio and instructor(s) for me. This studio is better suited for non-beginners who feel comfortable in their practice, although it's advertised to all levels. And those who are looking for bikram & hot yoga. I wanted more of beginning, non -heated yoga classes. They offer bikram & heated classes (90-105*F), both of which didn't work for me. I only had a little bit of yoga experience prior to coming here. What i needed was classes catered to beginners, where i could get some support from the instructors in correct alignment & modifications so that i could get to the place where i could attend the vinyasa and bikram classes. I was disappointed that the instructors were doing the routine along with students during class. This means that they didn't pay attention to (especially new & lost) students who were struggling or not doing the poses correctly instead of circulating around the room to observe as I've seen in some studios. On my first day, i noticed a lady next to me. I'm guessing it was her 1st day in vinyasa. She was completely lost in the vinyasa class. Even though I"m fairly new to yoga, but i was able to manage and struggled through the routine. She was completely lost and/or incapable of doing most of the poses and needed help but the instructor was busy doing her routine, so instrucotr probably was incognizant of her presence/dilemma. She ended not doing much of the class. Further, the lights were dimmed very softly so it is difficult to see. So for beginners, I didn't see it as a fit for me. For a student more experienced and comfortable in his/her practice, this may be a better fit. Most students either live or work close by, since there aren't too many classes daily. Maybe in the future when i'm more developed in my practice, i may consider coming for bikram. read more

I've been on and off practicing here for more than 4 years. Although the place has great community, great location and great teachers but it seems to receive an illed -fate come to management or ownership. The current owner of the studio took over the place late last year and has changed the floor from carpet to new zebra mat. In return received a lot of support from the community, mainly from the practitioners that have been here since the inception of the business, judging from all the packages that they sold last year. However, as the place began to show signed of improvement the behavior of the management also showed not improvement but negative side as well. For example: Membership prices and drop- in rate have been increased twice in the last three months without notice. Classes got cancelled and changed without any regard for the students. But the most troubling of all, It's their abusive behavior to the teachers and students that creating not only fear but also anxiety to the studio. Case and point, two of the studio best teachers quitted at the same time last month although nothing was revealed it was a well known fact that the manager screamed and threatened them in front of the students and the studio because they were two to four minutes late. These two teachers returned a week later because the students protested and the owner, as I understand make a calculated move to save his business, reluctantly has negotiated for their return. The story should end here on the happy note but it didn't, for the two teachers returned less then a week when the owner fired or "terminated the contract", as he put it, one of the teachers and punished the other by removed classes from her regular schedule. I interpreted his action as a way to intimidate and thwart any attempts from any teachers to walk out of his studio in the future. Yoga has been a significant part of my life, although short compare to other, for some time now. I learned some thing new every day about myself every time I explored this ancient practice. I may not be a perfect human being but I try hard every day to make a difference at least to my family, friends and community. I truly believe all of you out there who adopted yoga as a way of life are try hard to be better as well. On this note, I urge all of you not to support bully, abusive business owners and their behavior, to take a stand on the matter either let them know this is not a way to treat anyone let along to the yoga teachers in the yoga community or take your business some where else that can make a positive contribution to your community. I love this little studio tucked away in Pacifica! Main reason I love the studio: 1hr Bikram and the instructors. I'm all about efficiency, if I can get what normally takes 1.5 hrs squeezed into a 1hr sesh, I'm all over it! The studio is clean and even on the busiest days, I still have enough personal space for me to do my poses. The instructors are also super friendly and encouraging. After every class, I walk out feeling amazing and accomplished (you would too after enduring an hr inside a 105 degree room)! That cool ocean breeze in my hair as I drive home is like the cherry on top. read more
