Pacers Running - Sports Wear Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

I had a fantastic experience here with choosing my new running sneakers. About a decade ago, another running store introduced me to the ASICS Gel Kayano and it suited me well year after year. I had no problem buying the updated versions online. However, the latest model absolutely destroyed my feet that I would feel pains in my arches and soles after only 3 miles! The most terrible thing is that the ASICS online store does not take returns or exchanges for worn shoes so I was out of $300 with almost brand new shoes. I searched around Arlington for a store that would assess my gait and also a store that would take returns/exchanges so that I would have to be strictly liable for running shoes that do not fit. Pacers fit the bill and so much more! The representative (apologies for forgetting his name) was SO helpful. He performed various tests on my feet, and recommended several models. He was quite knowledgeable about the different running shoes and discussed their pros and cons with ease. I ultimately left with new Brooks running shoes, which has restored my running to be enjoyable again. Highly recommend if you are searching for new shoes! read more

The good- centrally located, accessible, dog friendly location with a good selection of the running shoes I was needing. Additionally, shoe prices are equal to the direct company online pricing. After reading the many good reviews, I decided to come to this store to find a proper fitting pair of running shoes for my young son who is wanting to delve more into running and participation in short races/fun runs. I typically have measured his feet myself and ordered his running shoes online directly from the company. But as he is transitioning from kids sizes the adult (womens sizes- as he is only 7 years old but has larger feet) I wanted to make sure the fit was comfortable and best before just purchasing another pair. So we went into the store - which had only two other customers at the time. It took several minutes for someone to acknowledge and help us and I had to initiate the conversation - no one was approaching us independently or greeting us as they walked by. In my day job, when I am not a mom, I am a doctor of physical therapy who has worked in sports ortho rehab for (we will just say) many years. I used to be an avid runner - long distance and taught instructed run training and fitness programs throughout my lifetime. All associated research I have been a part of throughout my career regards foot posture, running shoe fit, running injury care/prevention etc. - I stay up on the current research and have a considerable knowledge of running/shoe fit etc- and I had already fully evaluated my young sons feet and dynamic (walk v run) and static postures- along with wear of shoes to determine he needed a bit more arch support (a neutral or stability type running shoe) as he has been complaining of specific foot discomfort with the activity. I say used to be an avid runner- as multiple pregnancy complications and health complications have made returning to long distance running a significant challenge - and so I do not maintain an endurance athlete physique that I did in my 20s& 30s. Which this shouldn't even matter- but...Long story short- the well intentioned college age female athlete with her mentioned sports medicine education, as she informed me, was a bit condescending, judgy, and had the shoes that my son tried on not fit perfectly and been comfortable- I would have walked out of the store - but we bought them as I said above as they are comparable with online pricing direct from the company and my son said they felt good when he ran around in them. As a medical provider- I view running as one of the most approachable sports to enter into- it doesn't require much - a good pair of shoes and comfy clothes, and anyone- ANYONE- can do it for fun and for fitness. It is not only for the elite athlete and should not be treated as such. It shouldn't be intimidating to go into a running shoe store, be welcomed, and helped /educated on the appropriate individual running shoe. I would hope that the service at this store would better replicate the mantra and culture expressed by the owners: ". Our mantra, "For Every Run," is about honoring the unique individuals that are united in their drive to do something bigger than themselves. " This is a great store with some of the best selection of foot gear to assist the community with moving effectively. I hope others entering have a more positive experiences than mine. read more

I had a great experience with Jennifer. She was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to measure my feet properly and give me great advice on new shoes based on my arches, foot length, and where my toe sits after moving around. She even gave me a recommendation on her favorite gels since I haven't been loving the ones I've been fueling with. She was so nice. Highly recommend Pacers & Jennifer if you're looking for great service and expertise!!!!! :) read more

This was my first time going to a proper running shoe store to buy.... walking shoes... since puma decided to discontinue my beloved Runner Elites. I've been having trouble finding decent sneakers that are comfortable and last more than a few months. I made an appointment online and was in and out in less than half hour having tried on a few different pairs. Never realized how nice it was to have someone bring shoes directly to me and take them out of the box and unlacing and handing them to me while I sit comfortably. The only thing that would make the experience better was if there was booze. read more

I am just getting into running to the point where I now want to invest in a set of real running shoes and I heard that Pacers was the place to go for this. The Clarendon store is pretty small and there isn't a lot of staff; I had to wait around until someone was free and even then she was helping at least two other people at the same time so my visit took a bit longer than I expected. I appreciated the custom fitting experience. I was able to get my feet measured, gait looked at it, and arches examined. I had three shoes recommended to me and the store representative was very patient as I walked around in them. She gave me several sizes to try and different insoles to try in and I was very pleased with my experience. However, I do have one complaint: the store representative measured me as an women's size 7.5 and I have always purchased size 7's for my entire life. At the time, I was more than willing to admit I was a dummy who just never had their feet measured as an adult and maybe my feet had grown, so I left with the recommended size 8 running shoes. A same-day visit to Pacer's competitor store RoadRunner in Pentagon City revealed that I was indeed a size 7, so I went back to Pacers to exchange shoes. I was helped by a different representative and he measured my feet again as I sheepishly explained my suspicions that my feet had been measured. He remeasured and confirmed I was indeed a size 7. I was able to exchange my shoes for a different size with no problem and I was again pleased by the service and his non-judgement of my situation. I will happily return to Pacers for my running needs, but I disliked the initial difficulties in having to advocate for my needs when shoe sizing should be accurate the first time around. read more

Great personalized service, awesome products, helpful advice especially for first time runners.

My friend and I went to this pacers location to get fitted for new running shoes. Jennifer was the associate who helped us and was incredible! She was very knowledgeable and friendly and helped us find the perfect pair of running shoes for our needs. I'm coming off a shin splint and ran for the first time again in 3 weeks in my new shoes and felt great after, highly recommend this location and Jennifer! read more

Stopped in on a walk home looking for some shoes to get back into running, and Aiden was a HUGE help. Really great service! I called ahead for a particular shoe which only this store carried and they held it for me. When i arrived, the person who i had talked to on the phone brought it for me and let me try it on. He also brought me different sizes and then a different color. After measuring my feet and seeing my walk, he suggested that i tried a totally different shoe (given my complain of feet hurting) and seeing that i have certain way of walking. As soon as i put on the recommended shoes on, i felt much more comfortable as compared to the shoes i was looking to buy before. I was very happy about the personal customer service they provide along with advice and feedback. I would definetly be back for future needs! read more

best retail experience!!! super clean store with tons of selection. employees are super helpful and knowledgeable. i originally came in the browse shoes and i saw they sold shoe inserts. the associate i worked with measured my foot arch and made some recommendations. there was a whole section where you could try on various shoe inserts. the inserts i got fit perfectly in my vans and have made them so much more comfortable. i also tried on some running shoes but didn't get a pair. i later called the pacers store in gerorgetown to ask about stock and the employee went above and beyond to check inventory in other stores. they also have a very generous return policy. i am very impressed not just with this store, but how pacers as a whole treats their customers! read more

Pacers Running - Sports Wear Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

Running has been a passion for me my entire life. I always bought whatever running shoes were on sale. However, a couple of weeks ago my feet started to bother me. So on a lazy Sunday afternoon, I researched online for the appropriate running shoes for my sore feet. I determined that Brooks Ghost were the appropriate shoes for my high arches. Next I looked online to find out where to purchase them. Pacers Running had them available. I called the store in Clarendon (Arlington) and Joe S. answered the phone. He was friendly, courteous, informative and knowledgeable about running shoes. I made an appointment for the following day. To my luck he worked that day. I did not mention my online research and waited for him to make a recommendation. After he had me walk/run on the tread mill, he recommended exactly the shoes that I found online, Brooks Ghost. I was at the store for less than 30 minutes. I must add that while helping me Joe also helped two other customers. He managed his time so effectively that no one had to wait at any time during the purchasing process. I'm very happy with the purchase. read more

December 3rd, 2022 I have nothing but great things to say about the Pacers Running Store in Clarendon. They staff is always courteous, friendly and extremely helpful. Unlike other stores, they allow holds on shoes for 48 hours. Yesterday, I was able to purchase a pair of Asics Gel Kayano 29 running shoes with the help of Sean Nyhan. He did a terrific job helping me find a pair that fit correctly. He even let me apply my "Birthday Discount" to the purchase because I am a preferred customer. I am extremely happy with the purchase!!! He deserves a raise!!! read more

My elderly father was having trouble walking, and so we thought, "what better place to get fitted than a good running shoe store?" We went in with that goal, simply to find out what size shoes my father should be wearing. The shoes he had on were two sizes too big, and they were also "wide" --- no wonder he was shuffling! Our salesman then took it a step further and with incredible patience, showed my dad some shoes that were not just the right size, but also had stabilizing features to keep him steady. I nearly cried as I watched my father walk through the store to test the new shoes: his gait was completely changed for the better. In short, great service, great products, and a real willingness to help the customer, even when he's not a runner! Thank you, we'll be back. read more

Solid 5 Stars and a few extra for sparkle. This running store is top notch and that's consistent with the other Pacers in the area. The staff *KNOWS* what they're talking about. If you're just getting into running or a seasoned marathoner, they will be able to help you out and share a depth of knowledge. Staff is professional, upbeat and approachable and you will see them running in local races. More than a running store, its a community. Plus its a small, family owned business unlike these huge, mammoth sized, corporate competitors. So when you're looking for a running shoe, they will fit you based on how your foot strikes the ground. There's a treadmill in the store with a fancy computer hooked up to it. Then, they set you up with a rack of sneakers until you find the one that's most comfortable. You can jog up the block or in the store. They're very patient during this somewhat grueling process. read more

This store is run by Joe. He has the best customer service I have ever experienced, like Nordstrom used to be. We started off the day at road runner to get my 9 year old on the autism spectrum running shoes for his flintstone feet. AWFUL experience. BIG. MISTAKE. After posting my frustration on a spouses page it was suggested to me that I should check out Pacers and ask for Jason. I called, and Jason, who was in, but on his day off agreed to wait for us. I should preface all of this by saying, I'd rather bathe my cat than fit my son for shoes, it's a complete nightmare. The second pair Jason brought out fit my son, and while we ended up getting those he offered alternatives to make sure we got the perfect shoes. He's too big for kids shoes and too small for men's shoes, so we ended up buying two pairs of women's shoes for my 9 year old son, in "boy" colors, but most importantly they fit, he watched him run in them, and tolerated his desire to run around the store to ensure they were perfect. He also found me some new insoles. Ironically, one of the sped teachers from my sons school and grade also works there, and when he couldn't decide what color shoes he wanted, after sharing their love of Harry Potter, she asked him, "now close your eyes and imagine which color shoes you would see yourself running through the forbidden forest in". Instead of what could have been 20 minutes, it took him less than 30 seconds to decide! SCORE! I couldn't be happier with our experience today and am so grateful! We will absolutely be back, for our whole family's running needs! read more

I just signed up for a half-Marathon at the end of Summer and wanted new shoes to train in. So I came to Pacers to get me a new pair. The people here are super knowledgeable on shoes and related stuff and hooked me up with a great pair. First the salesperson made we "walk the ramp" to determine my foot type and running pattern. Then he recommended a few shoes based on my style - all of which were great. He did not try to up-sell me or rush me in to picking one - I had to try each pair a few times just to eliminate all but too! Prices are comparable to other big box stores and I am happy with my purchase. Definitely recommend this place if you are shopping for serious running/ walking shoes! read more

Pacers is an amazing store and my wife and I purchase all our jogging sneakers and apparel at the Clarendon store. And today's experience with the wonderful staff in Clarendon confirms my opinion. For the past month or so I have been experiencing problems with a pair of ASICS sneakers I bought 6 months ago. After visiting the store the staff took my name, cell and email and said a manager would call to discuss it. And I thought that would be the end and I would just have to buy another pair from another store. After a day the manager called. And without an extensive discussion or negotiations she offered to replace my sneakers at no charge, despite that the warranty was over. With that kind of service and customer care, Pacers will always have my business. And I hope this review helps readers decide to use Pacers and that you have the same excellent experience. read more

I had a very delightful experience here. Recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, I came here looking for sneakers that would provide cushion and adequate ankle support. The salesperson (Stephanie, I believe) walked me through the different brands and highlighted different shoes based on my expressed priorities. She brought out different sizes and colors for me to try on and I wound up walking out with the pair of Sauconys I bought because they were just so comfortable. I wanted to buy some compression socks too, but I could not justify the price- $60/pair. read more

Thanks for being a dog friendly store, your policy has increased the number of times that we decide to drop in and buy from you! My first experience here was a pleasant one. I was on the fence about buying some new Brooks, but was able to monitor my walking/running on the treadmill and see that they were indeed the right shoes for me. There is also a neat selection of pre-workout/pre-run energy supplements near the door that are always interesting to peruse through. read more

This store is amazing. The employees spend a lot of time with their customers and really know their products. I have a number of pain issues in one of my feet. And, to top it off, Pacers allows you to try out your new shoes for 30 days -- even outside! read more

I lost my best pair of running sneakers ever in California last week, so I thought I would give Pacers a try. I usually go to Philadelphia Runner, but since I don't live in Philadelphia anymore it's time to find a new sneaker home :-(. So I went in and stood around for about a minute. A sales associate told me he would be able to help me out when he finished up with a customer. I said ok no problem. I already know what kind of sneaker I need, so I eyed them all and made mental notes about what I was going to ask for. I waited about another five minutes and another associate told me that someone would be right with me. I said ok again. While I'm standing there a huge cockroach came running toward me. It scared me because I saw something big crawling out of the corner of my eye. I moved away fast and said, "oh that scared me". The second associate then made a snide remark about cockroaches being here before us and not going anywhere. I think he was annoyed that I moved out of the cockroach's way. I just decided to leave. I have not been running in five days now. I really want to go home to Philly just for Philadelphia Runner but I can't or it'll be another 7 days. Thanks Pacers. You da best..... not. read more

I have heard great thing about Pacer's for a few years now, so when I decided it was time for new running shoes I headed straight there. I'll preface this by saying I"m what they call an Athena, I'm a big girl, however I exercise and my doctor always remarks in how a good a shape I am, regardless of size. I walked into Pacers and was pleasantly surprised, the store appeared to be well organized, lots of happy looking customers and employees. I walked straight over to the wall o' shoes and started looking. After about 5 minutes of looking I started making eye contact with employees, and they all looked away! I wanted to shout HELLO!! Woman with the intent to buy here needs help! After 10 minutes I was done, I had watched employees helping others that walked over after me, I seemed to be the elephant in the room as they say. I stopped by the cashiers desk on my way out to ask about a specific shoe I wanted to see, and the woman seemed surprised by my question, however, even she didn't offer to help me! She just said, we don't have that one, and looked back down at the register. I'll bet if I looked like a runner I would have loved the store...not fitting normal ummm stereotypes, I hated it. Won't be back. read more

Who would think I would be giving 5 stars to a shoe store? But the experience is worth it. I tend to be someone who patronizes non-chain stores, and Pacers fits that bill. They offer great service (for both the novice and experienced runner) that you rarely have to wait for. I love that they sponsor so many of the local races that I attend and their pricing is quite reasonable (gotta love a place that has a military discount!). If you need shoes (or any sort of running gear really), this is the place to go. read more

They say the best pair of running shoes is the pair you go running in! I initally purchased a pair of adidas, and went back later that afternoon to try on a few more and eventually return them for a pair of brooks. It was great to work with someone who was as 'geeked out' about running shoe technology as I was, and who could speak to what kind of shoes I'd want in different kinds of training runs. I'm not a new runner- I've done a couple big races and I kept purchasing the updated versions of the same shoes, so had a good idea of what I wanted in a new pair of shoes before I went in. I worked with Shannon, who did a gait analysis and helped me pick out a pair from a brand I'd never tried before. I'm picky about fit, weight, and style, so I appreciated her patience in helping me find a pair I liked. Chris, who's there almost every time I go in there (and I go in there often!) apparently has a degree in exercise science, so it's fascinating to talk with him about things like Newton shoes or trigger point exercises. The selection is more of a "capsule collection" -- they have a few excellent pieces at a time, but frequently change over their inventory. I've gotten a few great tops from them, and they often have a great sale selection. Honestly though, I tend to get my running clothes from places like tj maxx and I go to pacers for shoes, nuun/gu, and the excellent service. A quick note- they sell these race-bib magnets that you use instead of safety pins- these have changed my life and saved many of my favorite running tops. read more

I've always, always hated running. Yes, I was always the last kid to finish running the mile in grade school. My fastest time was maybe 13 minutes. I dreaded that day of the week for so many years. Due to my lack of endurance, I only played defense in soccer. Which required less running. My coach once made me a forward, and I suffered from heat-stroke and exhaustion. I'm not athletic, basically. However, my goal is to shred ten pounds and I figured running would be the best way to do this (with a sensible diet, et cetera). Three weeks ago, I started walking and running at my condo's gym. Not often, but I started to get used to the monotony of running. (Sorry, serious runners.) My friend Mike, a marathon runner, encouraged me to go to Pacers and get new shoes. Having good running shoes is critical, he told me. He spoke of this magical gait analyzer and I was sold ... on visiting, anyway. I walked in and Jen, one of the associates, had me put on a pair of neutral running shoes. I ran on a treadmill and she reviewed the video of my gait through their gait analysis software. Spiffy. She showed me a few pairs of shoes that would prevent overpronating (thanks flat feet!). I tried on a pair and went back on the treadmill. Huh, the shoe works. I ended up with a pair of Mizunos. They were well-cushioned, breathable and most importantly, light as air. I was worried that the shoes would be overpriced, but after doing some post-purchase shopping, I found that Pacers' prices are comparable to online retailers. I was very happy with my experience. I've used my shoes several times since last week, and it was a great purchase. I've been running faster and longer without any pain. I really recommend every runner to go to Pacers over a big box sports store for new shoes. Don't bother going elsewhere, or you'll regret it! FYI: Don't be discourage by the young staff. I know that some are on their school's track and field teams. You'll appreciate their expertise. read more

Always a great store with knowledgeable employees. If you're a new runner or old, normal arch or flat foot, you'll find everything you'll need here. Prices are reasonable too - I've been getting my shoes here now despite access to the PX. Better selection and more colors. I love it. read more

Patellar Tendon: A tendon that extends down from the quadriceps muscle in the thigh to incorporate the patella (the kneecap) and attach it to the tibia (the shinbone), providing extension at the knee joint. Patellar Tendonitis (official definition): the condition that arises when the tendon and the tissues that surround it, become inflamed and irritated. This is usually due to overuse, especially from jumping activities. This is the reason patellar tendonitis is often called "jumper's knee." Patellar Tendonitis (my definition): When every time you take a step your knee feels like it's going to explode because it hurts so much. When it's so painful to go down stairs that I'll take the elevator to go down one floor. I got patellar tendonitis from playing too much soccer and doing too much trail running. My doctor advised me that I should change running shoes every three to four months. Since it had been a year since I had last bought running shoes, I went to Pacers. One of the staff approached me, and all I said to him was "I have patellar tendonitis. Please give me a shoe that will help my knee hurt less". I didn't have to explain what patellar tendonitis is. He just said "Sure, sit tight", and he went to go get me some shoes. After trying on a few and even running around the block in each pair, I bought a $140 pair of Asics. Yes, that's an expensive pair of running shoes, but I was willing to pay if it would help my knee. That was five months ago, and my knee feels much better. I have cut down on my running some (too darn cold outside), and it could just be the placebo effect, but I don't really care. My knee feels better, and Pacers helped by showing me the right pair of shoes. That's why it gets four stars. Regarding the standard info on this store, it was all pretty good. They have a great selection of shoes, apparel, and running accessories. The prices are okay I guess; maybe a little pricey, but that's Clarendon. While the staff is pretty young, they're still pretty knowledgeable, I think because they're mostly cross country/track runners from local high schools and colleges (they all had that lean runner's build). This place also holds weekly runs led by a staff member that start at the store and go for 3-7 (I think) miles depending on which day. I always see a bunch of people going on them, so they must be decent runs. If you're even a little serious about running, this is a good place to get all your running equipment, especially if you need some expertise with shoes. read more

I'm a running novice but a friend took me to this store to get a proper pair of running shoes. The staff was incredibly friendly and didn't mind analyzing my run. They had me walk around, do some simple exercises, and run on a treadmill. They were able to tell me A LOT about how I run and even gave me some tips on how to improve. Then they set me up with a new pair of shoes that fit me PERFECTLY!! I've been running with the shoes I bought from Pacers for about a month now and I am still very pleased with them. I will definitely go back to Pacers for my next pair. I had to give them 4/5 stars because I only tried on one pair of shoes. Granted, they work great for me, but I would have liked to try on a couple pairs for comparison. If they don't offer to show you a couple pairs, I would definitely ask! read more

Before Pacers, I bought running shoes from any random store. The older I got, the more trouble I had running more than a mile. My knees would just hurt. After speaking with a few regular marathoners, they recommended I go to Pacer's and get fitted for a proper shoe and vowed I'd be able to run again with no pain. 2 years later, I can attest. The right shoes make a difference. I've run a few 10 milers now. Just bought another pair. The shoes are pricey with all the inserts and proper socks, but $200 is well worth the 6-8 months of use and benefit for your health. Bottom Line - Get ready to get back into the running game. read more

While the customer service is thorough and employees are knowledgable, the salespeople here are up-selling too much and this store will nickel and dime you to squeeze every penny, which makes me more inclined to order online in the future and send shoes back if I don't like them. I'm basing this opinion on numerous visits I've made and from experiences that friends have had as well. I walked in today to pick up a packet for a race and to take advantage of a 10% apparel discount and they wouldn't apply it to the $100+ shoes I bought. They wouldn't apply it to the lightweight socks they sell. And it's not even that heavy of a discount. They try to talk you in to buying pricey inserts over and over again (on top of the pricey shoes) which can make you feel uncomfortable. Finally, I opened up a rewards account today and was disappointed that they wouldn't credit me with the points I should have earned for the race I was participating in that day that had led me to Pacers for packet pick-up in the first place. I'd hope that Pacers thoughtfully takes these concerns into consideration read more
