Mark Pace is hands down the best bike mechanic in the Kansas City metro. The guy that can fix what others can't.
A guy that recognized and became a dealer of a small brand that revolutionized most of what's selling new today; the company went by the name KLEIN. Masterpieces that most lucky owners hang on their walls as art. This frame revolution is what Cannondale "borrowed." The fat tubed Aluminum frames without the hideous Frankenstein welding scars. That should be enough of an endorsement alone. He still rides one when he's feeling sporty.
He does all the work, not a stoned kid with a bone pierced through his nose. Most of the time he can just look at a derailleur or other malfunction, diagnose, and fix while you gaze around this amazing shop/museum/mad scientist laboratory.
Countless times he's talked me out of some upgrade or gizmo I had to have. And he's always been right, always fair on labor, and always a crazy genius to sit around with for awhile.
Although Pace concentrates on repairs, lacing /building the nicest wheel sets in town, solving difficult problems no one else can, and telling you you're being foolish if necessary. He still maintains a full retail operation with bikes and gear he believes in.
He does have a lot of older parts new or practically that are very hard to find. Like 70's Campy parts still in wrappers.
They're not Latter Day Saints but the groovy two story building sits on the South West corner of the church's main campus in Independence. Follow the Temple's spire. Calling ahead is advisable.
Well worth the drive for a true master mechanic that still rides most days. You'll walk/ride out with a perfectly tuned bike and all kinds of cycling knowledge you never knew you didn't know. read more
