A tube replacement ran me less than $30, and yeah, I could get a tube and do it myself, but my time has value and these folks are experts. Southwind has a great selection of bikes if you are looking to upgrade or even invest. But maybe their best asset is the local knowledge of the staff, whether it's recommendations for off-road biking or organizing community bike rides. I'm still a novice, and I'm probably too old to really take too many chances, but they gave me the lowdown on Shawnee Mission Park's trails. Unfortunately the owner Ross did not provide the same level of courtesy and respect his employees do. I am 57 and ride gently. I test rode the bike on their lot, and owned it less than 24 hours. I rode it less than a few miles on a paved road near home to discover it didn't perform as expected. I brought it back cleaner than it was at delivery. I thought agreeing with the owner to cover 6-10% was more than generous for the hassle and any tiny expenses, but when I arrived back to return the unit the owner got more involved and changed the terms. Chris my sales person vouched for me, knowing my character and the overall situation, but it wasn't enough for the owner Ross. According to him there is no return policy on bikes. He made an exception for me, and kept 15% of my money on a return instead of the agreed 10.. In that conversation with him, Ross whined about loosing money via credit card fees and taxes. Furthermore he went on to say that the transaction was "painful and inconvenient" indicating he was still doing me a nice favor by returning 85% of my money. As the conversation unfolded, I suspect Chris took some heat for the level of service he had provided. Chris over delivered and under promised, not the other way around. In the end I was surprised to learn the owner was more interested in the restocking fee, knowing good and well the bike could be resold as brand new (no different than the lot rides myself and others had taken). He would not consider the idea that future business and relationships are more valuable than restocking fees. I am on my way back to the Trek shop to purchase a unit from them. Trek understands this concept. In fact, they offer a 30 day, no questions asked, full refund in the event a unit doesn't fit well or perform to expectations. I'll also be purchasing a second bike for my wife, parts and gear. Provided it goes as good business should, I'll be referring businesses elsewhere. If Ross can ever grasp value in changing his policy to a more consumer friendly one, I'd love to work with his staff and his outfit in the future because I like supporting my local shop. Until then, I'm afraid I'll have to hand over my hard earned money to corporate giants. What a shame.

I am SO happy that the Bicycle Depot has come to Waldo! I have two Trek bicycles, and both of them…read moreneeded service. Thankfully, I live fairly close to the Depot and so was able to bring both of them over without difficulty on the same day. I had called ahead and explained the situation to Dave; he was extremely friendly and helpful and assured me that yes, he would be able to take care of both of my bikes and they'd be ready to ride again within the week. He was as good as his word! Within 3 business days, he called me to let me know the bikes were ready. While I was at the shop, I had several questions regarding the usual care of my bicycles. He was extremely patient and helpful and explained several points of bicycle maintenance, such as regular cleaning (do NOT hose down a bicycle!), airing up the tires (and the importance of relying on a pressure gauge, not how full the tire "feels"), the finer points of shifting, and what to do if your chain slips off. I know his time is valuable--there were lots of bikes in the shop still needing to be worked on--and I appreciate him taking the time to help me be a better bicycle owner and rider. It's good that the shop is open both days on the weekend; since I work on Saturdays, I rely on Sundays to get many of my errands done. It's nice to have a business that I can visit at a convenient time and day. Dave and his crew have won my loyalty! There's nowhere else I'm going to bring my bikes for service (or for general questions). Bicycle Depot is the BEST!!

Here is a timeline of the events…read morethat led me to give them ONE STAR: Tues, 12/15/2020 Ordered bike, paid for shipping Tues, 12/22/2020 Bike was scheduled to be delivered via UPS, it never arrived; I checked the UPS website and saw "deliver to: Commerce, CA" (I don't live anywhere close to Commerce, CA and how is UPS supposed to deliver to an address without a street name or address number) Wed, 12/23/2020 Bike still did not show up; I rechecked UPS delivery and it stated "insufficient or incorrect delivery address to "Commerce, CA"; I called UPS delivery and tried to change the delivery address to add my street name and address #; UPS told me the address change has been restricted and that I had to contact the sender to change the delivery address, and also informed me that even if I changed the delivery address to the correct one by tomorrow, 12/24/2020, it won't be delivered by Christmas; called Playtri and spoke with a young man, who said the shipping person was working today and he would ask her to call me back; never received a callback from her Thur, 12/24/2020 Called Playtri again and asked about the delivery address on my order, spoke with an Anne @ Playtri and she asked me "have you moved recently?" (as if I ordered the bike, moved, and then didn't inform Playtri); then she asked me "do you live near McKinley Ave?" (as if I knew where McKinley Ave was in Los Angeles because I'm pretty sure every city in LA has a McKinley Ave); I said "I don't even know where that is without looking at a map" to which she responded, "because if you want this by Christmas, you need to go pick it up at the UPS on McKinley Ave" to which I thought, "ok," but actually responded with, "YOU GUYS PUT IN THE WRONG SHIPPING ADDRESS AND I CAN'T CHANGE IT, SO CAN YOU PLEASE CORRECT THE ADDRESS TO MY HOME ADDRESS? I DON'T EVEN CARE IF THE BIKE IS A LITTLE LATE AT THIS POINT" to which Anne responded, "ok, we'll correct the address to your home address so the bike is delivered to your home" Sat, 12/26/2020 Bike hasn't arrived; checked UPS website and it states "check back tomorrow for updated delivery status"; delivery address still says "deliver to: Commerce, CA"; told husband to call Playtri because I was tired of dealing with them; husband called and spoke with Anne, who said "your wife called already and we changed the address" (aka what the hell do you still want from us? We don't care anymore because we did our part); they NEVER accepted responsibility for not double checking to make sure they had the correct mailing address Sun, 12/27/2020 Checked UPS website and it states "check back tomorrow for updated delivery status" and delivery address still says "Commerce, CA"; I call UPS and ask them to hold the bike at the UPS off McKinley Ave so that I can pick it up tomorrow between 12pm - 4pm because they are closed on Sundays; UPS customer service places a hold on the bike so that it doesn't get placed on a truck for delivery Mon, 12/28/2020 Drove to the UPS off McKinley on the ONLY day it rained HARD in Los Angeles; got to the UPS customer service center and Darneisha asked me if I called UPS ahead of time to inform them to hold the bike for pickup because that's what you have to do in order to pick up the bike at a distribution warehouse; I told her I did call yesterday and spoke with customer service and they told me they would place a hold on the bike for pickup; Darneisha tells me that she cannot locate the bike anywhere in the warehouse because the bike was placed on a UPS delivery truck and is supposed to be delivered to my home tomorrow or the day after (aka I wasted a trip to the UPS off McKinley Ave Tues, 12/29/2020 Bike FINALLY arrives at my home at 9pm; the box is obviously open because someone needed to take a peak inside the box; my husband tries to put the bike together that night and noticed the fork offset got dinged upon shipping or at Playtri and the front wheel doesn't fit in-between the fork offsets; we debate what to do and ultimately decide to shave down the metal in the morning so the front bike wheel can fit; we research the issue and decide that we should not bend the offset back and forth because it can compromise the strength of the fork offset Wed, 12/30/2020 My husband files down the metal so the front wheel fits Conclusion: IN NO WAY AM I BLAMING UPS. In fact, Darneisha was amazing and deserves to be recognized for her assistance, she called me on 12/30/2020 to make sure I knew the bike would be delivered on 12/30/2020 or 12/31/2020. BUT WTF PLAYTRI KANSAS CITY, MO - clearly you don't care about customer service.
