Someone finally came who was pretty uninterested in helping me as well. I don't remember what I needed that day, only that their rudeness or aloofness left a strong impression. Today I called because I had a set of tubeless tires that I had set up but I was unable to get the bead on the tire set without a compressor. I called and asked if they could help and they said yes, leave them overnight and for $25 per tire we will do it. I said no thanks because that seemed ridiculous to charge $25 to air up a tire. I even called back five minutes later to clarify that the tubeless tires were already set up, they just needed aired by a compressor. Yes, that's $25 per tire. I managed to get one tire seated with an adapter and the air compressor at Quick Trip but the other one wouldn't seat. I ended up in Olathe and stopped at Eriks bikes, took the wheel in and the mechanic said sure, but if it doesn't seat I'll have to check it in. It took him literally 15 seconds to pop air in the tire. He handed it back, no charge. I made sure to stop at the front counter and thank them and I also bought $45 worth of handlebar tape. I spend hundreds of dollars a year at my local bike shop. I lived in Arizona until last year. what I asked for was not some extravagant, free service. This is something that any local bike shop, and I've lived in several areas of the country, just does. It's literally putting air in a tire. Southward thinks if they have something you need, whatever it is, that you should be able to take you for whatever they would like. Never again.

Today in the store they helped us get the perfect fit for my wife's bike, they were knowledgeable with the products and inventory, helped with adjustments, it was such a simple and easy process. I'm on the hunt for a new bike shop, and Elite Cycling didn't exactly win me over…read more I popped in looking for a seatpost replacement, and the overall vibe and attitude were not the best. They told me I should just fix it, and to their credit, gave me some tips. The thing is, we're moving, selling our house, packing, etc. and I'd rather they just help out with a seatpost or offer to schedule a time for me to have them fix it. To me, it felt dismissive. I then inquired about a new bike, something I've been excited about the past few years and saving up for. I told them my budget for it which is on par for a small car, and they said "We aren't gonna have anything in that range." I was a bit shocked, and they clarified it's more due to Covid disrupting the supply vs demand. I know that's an issue, but again, dismissive to be shot down when I have the cash ready to go for a good new road bike. Overall it felt like they couldn't wait to be rid of me in the five minutes I was there. I got to know the folks are two now defunct bike shops and actually enjoyed going in to them. This one definitely didn't bring it for me like the past ones. I get it, they're in a high dollar area and can afford to get by without the friendly neighborhood shop feel, but it's not for me, and I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

With no tools to extract the bolt out I called The one and only Jimmy T at Letko Cycles at 2:30 on a Saturday and told him I had an emergency. Told him the problem and he told me to get the bike to him ASAP. Letko Cycles here we come. After about 30 min or so Jimmy and Scott Spears got that thing out of there. The relief my son had when Jimmy handed me the other half of the broken bolt was huge knowing the race was on! This is why I have been a customer of Letko Cycles for over 20 years! They may not always be the cheapest but they will always do what ever it takes to help me out when they can to get me to the races. Thanks again fellas!
