Kris, the manager at Trek Shawnee, has assembled a great staff of helpful and knowledgeable salespeople and bike technicians. It's a big store with loads of bikes for trail, gravel or road biking in every price range and the tune-up and repair work they do is top notch. There are bike shops closer to home, but Trek Bicycle Shawnee is worth a little longer drive. Special kudos to Grayson who recently fixed me up with some new carbon wheels and handled the warranty work on some others. read more

Over the last several years I have used this store only because of proximity. I have always left disappointed in customer service and each time thought to myself that I'd never go back. Today was no different. I stood in line, waited outside as we were told. Spent 15 minutes waiting to get called in, and watched as another customer walked in and received service. After voicing my displeasure I was told by a female employee that the customer had been waiting in the parking lot for some time, (as we all were). Not 5 minutes later the same female employee walked out and called in customers for other services, instead of taking the next person in line. I will NEVER go back to this store again! Ever! I will also be sure to let EVERYONE I know how horrible the service is at this store! I can't recall ever disliking a place of business more than I dislike going here. read more

My family and I have had such a great experience with this place. I bought both my daughter (6 yo) and my son (11 yo) a bike from this location within the last few months. My son's bike had issues with the gears and chain locking up. Had to take the bike back for the mechanics to take a look. Dealt with two mechanics (Dave and Grayson) and Sales Manager (Kris) and they were all awesome. They all said they would "make it right" and they really did. They went above and beyond to get my son's bike riding perfectly and even took the time to ride around with my son to teach him a few tips about shifting gears. We have bought one bike from them in the past and went back again yesterday to look for another for our son. We were on the fence about a Marlin 5 Medium and said we would be back shortly and were assured they would hold it for a while. We were gone a total of 45 minutes and returned to having the only bike in that size not only not held for us like we were told but instead sold it. I was so flabbergasted at the lack of care and customer service I immediately took my business to the Lee Summit store. They were also out but I paid a deposit on a special delivery order. They had a good selection of bikes. It's quite a large store. I got there shortly after it opened today and there were lots of people looking to buy bikes, accessories, tune up and just chat. They have a blog and they apparently have meets, demo's, etc. often. I spoke to Sean there. Told him what I was looking for and he steered me towards 2 different types of bikes. Once I settled on what I thought I wanted, I took it out for a road test. Pepperred him with questions and he knew all the answers. He helped me figure out what accessories I needed and wrote it all down for me so that I could review it later. I ended up coming back a second time and taking it out for another road test. He remembered everything we had gone over 4 hours earlier. The entire staff appears friendly and likes to work there. Lots of smiles. Lots of smiles for customers as well. So, I ended up buying the bike. Of note, there is a Spring sale going on, so I took advantage of that. They'll be putting it together and calling me shortly to pick it up. They also offer free tuneups for 3 years. No sales pressure. No one tried to sell me a bike that I didn't need or a higher end model once I told them what price I was looking for in an entry level. read more

I have been purchasing from the Shawnee Trek Store for many years and have rarely walked away unsatisfied. The staff is always willing to not just talk bikes for the purpose of a sale, but talk bikes and cycling for the love of the sport. Just over a year back I was shopping for a new bike. It had been many years since my last upgrade so it was investment time once again. A primary consideration in making my purchase was that the the frame be produced in the USA. Not just assembled here, but made here by American workers in an American facility - the Trek Madone 6 series is just that. It took many visits, and multiple conversations with the staff to make my final decision. The highest praise I can give any sales person (or persons) is that they show interest in the client no matter the outcome. The sales and management staff at the Trek Store never made me feel hurried in the process, always treated me like I was their best customer, and never failed to provide answers to my questions, no matter how obscure or geeky they might have been. I went in to this bike shop just to check out some options and prices. The staff wasn't pushy at all. They were very helpful and informative, with the knowledge to back it up. An hour later, I decided to come back and buy one. Although I never thought I'd spend this much money on a bike, I'm glad I did because I use it at least 4 times a week. It's reassuring to know that I get free service on it for 3 years too. After using the bike itself for the past 2 weeks, I couldn't be happier. It is a solid bike that can get me up and down just about any mountain my muscles could handle at this point. It shifts flawlessly and has the smoothest ride I've ever experienced, although to be honest I haven't experienced much besides a bmx bike as a kid and a $100 walmart mountain bike. Only reason I gave it 4/5 stars was because the price doesn't include a kickstand, water bottle holder, or anything else. Kind of disappointing given how much the bikes are. First of all, I purchased a mid range bike from them back in May 2021. I had the bike for 7 weeks and only road it about a dozen times. I was on a fairly flat easy paved path on my way home from work when the derailleur failed while I was downshifting which caused the chain to bind causing the lower rear frame to crack slightly. One would assume since the website boasts of its "lifetime" warranty on the frame that they would have replaced this under warranty (link to warranty policy bellow). Nope after fighting with them since June, they claim it was my fault the frame cracked and not a result of the components failing, and was not covered under warranty. The staff was neither competent with regards to their warranty coverage, but were also condescending and rude. They claimed the best they could do was sell me another bike for 20% of and thought this was a reasonable solution. Given the lack of helpful, competent staff and unwillingness to honor their "Lifetime" frame warranty I would not buy another Trek bike, nor would I even recommend buying a bike from this shop ever. I don't own a Trek, but have brought my bike here a number of times for service, and to purchase other accessories. I tend to be very picky about bike shops, because in my opinion, they're only as good as the employees. This store has, time and again, met or exceeded my service expectations. The employees have always been decent to me, and most importantly, they're never condescending. (Which was especially important when I first started biking and knew zilch about everything.) On my latest visit, I took my bike in after a minor crash. I feared a huge bill, as the handlebar appeared to be slightly screwed up. The Trek guy was able to make a minor adjustment and get my on my way, for no charge. All in all, a very good place that I highly recommend. read more

But that's OK because I am now the proud owner of a Women's Specific Design Trek Mountain Bike with a 3 year full service warranty. Joel and Tyler were both helpful, knowledgeable, total bikesters (like hipsters, only bikesters), and friendly. They listened to our needs and wants and recommended bikes that would fit our beginner styles. The selection is large for any style of bike you're looking for. I saw $10,000 bikes and beach cruisers. Toddler bikes and bicycles built for two! If you are really into biking or just beginning, the Trek store is a great place to be. read more

I have recently purchased 2 bikes from this shop within the last month and the experiences have not been the most ideal. Although trek does offer a quality bike the communication and service is lacking. On the first purchase our sales person sold us a bike and told us it would ship in 3 business days. This was crucial as we had a big ride on the books the following week. 3 business days had passed and no bike or update. I continued to call in for the next several days asking for updates to eventually be told the bike has been on back order..... this was never communicated to us nor would we have known if I was not so persistent. They did offer a loaner bike which was the right thing to do but still doesn't change the fact they never communicated this issue and I had to do all the legwork. The second bike was a complete nightmare. The second bike I called in to order and the experience went like this. They answered the phone and said "anything I can help you with real quick, we are busy" to which I replied yes I want to buy a verve 2 small frame for my wife. The sales person said ok, can I get your name and number and call you back to complete the sale. I thought it seemed a bit odd that he didn't want to complete the sale real quick but I was like sure that's fine. Hours pass and I never receive a call, so I call 10 minutes before they close. The same guy answers and says, "oh yeah I've been meaning to call you" so I play along and say ok I want to complete the payment. The next response is where I became really frustrated and upset. He then tells me that they just sold this bike..... how do you sell a bike that is already vouched for and customer attempted to pay for on the spot. This to me was just poor service and made me feel as if a quick over the phone sale wasn't worth their time. (Most ideal in my opinion given the current situation) It's not my problem that he wanted to call me back and not take my credit card info right then. But then to not hold the bike. The whole process and dealings with this shop have been frustrating and lacking communication and service. I will say that Ann and Jamie were quite helpful and provided quality service but not the same from others. read more

Every time I go to this particular Trek store the staff is very helpful and don't try to sell you something if you don't need it, they checked my tire and I assumed they would need to replace my tube, they didn't and showed me that it was holding air and even showed me the best way to air it up, I even asked questions they would probably think was stupid and didn't make me feel like an idiot for asking them. They didn't charge me for anything they did and this is what happens every time I go there, very unlike the Independence store, they want to charge for everything, even just to check my tire. I love how you guys do business and will come visit you guys every time I need something! Anyone who is thinking about starting to get serious about biking, just go there and see for yourself, they don't make you feel stupid but instead make you feel very comfortable and are so helpful!! I am wary of bike-stores as I am an avid biker, but definitely not a hardcore spandex-wearing biker. I usually get frustrated with the snobbery of bike stores and how bike mechanics talk down to bikers and then try to talk us into expensive parts and accessories. Or better yet, the bike mechanics who refuse to work on older, hand-me-down bikes. At least we're riding! Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised with the Trek store. I took my (gigantic-6'8") brother in to find a bike, and the salesmen took his time showing is the different options and the pros and cons of each bike. Then he talked him into riding each one around outside and was just really patient with all of our questions. Super nice guy. My brother bought the bike and now has 3 years of free tune-ups, which is awesome! I also took my mountain bike in to see how much a suspension fork would cost, and the mechanic said he'd give me one that was lying around if I payed to get it serviced there. That's amazing. I have been riding trails for years. Bought a brand new shiny Trek mountain bike. On my first ride, before I made it to the first trail I crash it on a concrete curb! Bike flies over my head bangs into the sidewalk with full force. The derailleur is bent, the gears are not shifting, its a wreck! How embarrassing and totally my fault. Drive the bike to the store expecting a huge repair bill on a brand new bike. Sean was the tech that helped me. Replaced a bunch of parts, spent a bunch of time, sent me on my way free of charge. Took my Trek bike to the Trek Bike Store in Shawnee for service. They were supposed to call me when the work was done but they didn't, I had to call them. Went to get the bike and noticed the back tire had not been replaced. I paid for two tires not one! They put on the second tire and noticed the back break was dragging. I asked if the tune up I paid for was supposed to catch that. Their excuse was they were busy last week! $65 for a tune up and they missed something obvious! When you spend almost $300 I think you deserve better service. read more

I purchased a bike online from a different manufacturer and the bike needed quite a bit of tuning to get it set up. I took it to another highly rated store in town and they did a reasonable job but I continued to have problems with shifting and chainsuck. I took it to the Trek store and they did a fabulous job. For over a decade I rode a Trek 830 mountain bike. If I had basic mechanical skills, I probably could have fixed the thing up for under $100. Since I can barely change a flat tire, I decided it would be best to buy a new model. After doing some research, I decided to get a Trek 3900. It is a slight upgrade over the discontinued 830. Unlike the 830, it has an aluminum frame, aluminum wheels, and a front suspension. It also costs under $400. Given the price, I was worried the staff would treat me like a random vagrant. My fear was terribly misplaced. The staff spent considerable time talking to me about the pros and cons of a 3900, versus the cheaper 3700. The employee I spoke with also asked me about my riding habits, to see if a hybrid bike might work better. He then measured me, and insisted that I take the 3900 on a test ride. In other words: I walked into the store ready to make a purchase without deliberation. The employee forced me to think it over, which could have potentially cost him the sale. Perhaps the best aspect of the Trek store is the three years of free tune-ups. I recently took my bike into the store, and received a lesson on bike maintenance. I heard another guy with a $1000+ bike getting a similar lesson. The repair guy was passionate about cycling, and clearly wanted EVERYONE to properly maintain their bikes. Be sure to grab your wallet! Went in for a flat tire and shifter cable and was told that with parts and labor would be less than $50 with new brake pads to boot. Not bad you say & that's what I thought. When I picked it up a tall older guy said they didn't replace the brake pads, they had to replace a tire, chain, and cassette. OVER $150!! I gave them 1 star because I think the younger techs do a good job but the older guy will steal your 1st born. Will not be back!!! read more

I have tried other shops and they never measure up to the expertise and attention to detail of this Trek shop. Bought a new Domane 4.5 in summer 2013. Bike was in for a free service inspection and to replace a crank bearing. Had to return to the shop after the inspection because trim and brakes were poorly adjusted. Crank bearing replaced on a $3k bike in less than 700 miles and 8 months after purchase and no warranty??? Employees were rude to boot.... Lots of other bike stores and brands, won't set foot in this store again. read more
