If I could give this store zero stars, I absolutely would. My experience at the Dick's Sporting…read moreGoods location in Santa Clarita was nothing short of frustrating, disappointing, and completely unacceptable.
Let's start with the customer service, or rather, the complete lack of it. The employees are extremely unhelpful, and unfortunately, the attitude seems to start at the management level. The manager I dealt with was particularly disappointing and demonstrated very little interest in helping resolve even the simplest customer concerns. When a customer comes into your store looking for clarification on pricing, product availability, or advertised promotions, the expectation is that someone will actually make an effort to help. Apparently, that's too much to ask at this location.
One of the biggest issues is the complete lack of consistency between the store's website, advertised pricing, and what is actually reflected in the store. The pickleball section is a perfect example. Multiple products have mismatched SKUs, incorrect pricing, and discrepancies between the actual merchandise and the information displayed. This includes items that are supposedly on sale. As a customer, how are you expected to know what you're actually purchasing or what price you're supposed to be paying when the store can't even maintain accurate product information?
Then there is the issue of coupons and advertised discounts. You can have a coupon or promotion in front of you, follow the advertised terms, and still be told that the store will not honor it because it has expired. If the store's own systems, website, signage, and pricing information are already inconsistent, perhaps management should focus on fixing those problems rather than making the customer pay for the company's inability to maintain accurate information.
Another major frustration is the website showing products available at this specific Santa Clarita location at a particular price, only for customers to arrive and discover that the product isn't actually available or that the advertised price doesn't match what the store is charging. What exactly is the point of having an online inventory and pricing system if customers cannot rely on the information? People are making the effort to drive to your store based on what YOUR website tells them. That should mean something.
And to make matters worse, the bathrooms were not even operational. It's another example of how poorly the overall shopping experience is being maintained. Basic store amenities should be functional. Customers shouldn't have to deal with broken facilities on top of everything else.
What frustrates me most is that retail really isn't complicated. Customers want accurate pricing, reliable inventory information, reasonable promotions, clean and operational facilities, and employees who are willing to provide basic assistance. That's it. Nobody is asking for extraordinary treatment. They're simply asking for a functional retail experience.
I also think Dick's Sporting Goods needs to seriously reconsider how it approaches its customer base in markets like Santa Clarita. This is an area with plenty of families, parents, children, and consumers who have disposable income and are more than willing to spend money on sporting goods, recreational equipment, and their kids' activities. These are customers who WANT to shop locally and would rather walk into a store, see a product, ask questions, and make a purchase than order everything online.
But why would anyone continue making that effort when the experience is this bad?
You're essentially giving customers every reason to skip the store entirely and shop elsewhere online. And the irony is that people are still willing to give brick-and-mortar retail a chance, but experiences like this make it increasingly difficult to justify.
This is a complete failure of customer service, store management, and basic retail operations. The problems aren't isolated to one pricing discrepancy or one unhelpful employee. They reflect a much bigger issue with how this location is being managed and operated.
Corporate leadership really needs to take a hard look at this location, its management, employee training, pricing practices, inventory accuracy, and overall customer experience.
At this point, I have very little incentive to return. There are plenty of other places to spend my money, and based on this experience, I would encourage others to consider those alternatives.
Complete fail by Dick's Sporting Goods. If this is the standard the company is comfortable delivering, I honestly hope the business model fails. Customers deserve better, and this location is doing absolutely nothing to earn their business.
