They tore out our bathtub and replaced it with a beautiful shower. At first the water wasn't hot enough, but once I told them, they came out the next business day and now it's perfect. Thanks guys. Great job!! My disabled wife is now able to take a shower with very little assistance. read more

I really toggled with my rating and I would say they are a 3.5 stars. Scheduling was a little difficult as Michael was away with his family. Steve, who was very pleasant to speak with the first time, said that I should wait a week for Michael to come out to give an estimate. Well, a week and a half later - Steve comes out to give an estimate for the kitchen and roof. So, not sure why we had to wait. I guess Michael had something come up. He quoted us for the kitchen and roof. Steve called me the next day stating that he wanted to speak with my boyfriend. I let him know that he could talk with me because my boyfriend was just filling in since I had to work late. He kept insisting on speaking with him only - kinda made me feel like he thought women could not make decisions. Just my opinion - like I said before, our first conversation was completely different. A couple of weeks later, we circle back around and decide for them to do our roof (replace some sheathing and shingles) and not the kitchen. Michael then told me the quote that Steve gave was incorrect and he would have to come back out again. The new price was 50% more but at least we got the installation of our solar fan with it. Plus, they could do it the next weekend. So, all that and the great Yelp reviews - we selected them. Installation Day - Mike called early and said his crew would be there during a certain timeframe. Well, they showed up a couple of hours later than expected. They worked diligently through the day. At first, they forgot to put the tarp down to catch debris so there was a little mess in the yard which they did try to clean up. They also went over and beyond and replaced a couple extra pieces of sheathing and shingles. Here's the kicker...I am unpacking (we recently moved in) and I go to the walk in closet only to find that the ceiling came down. I run outside to get their attention and they said that they called Mike. You can tell that this had happened hours before because they had already patched that part of the roof already. Evidentially, one of the roofers stepped through it. It would have been nice if they acknowledged it prior to me stumbling upon it. They also did not give me the opportunity to inspect it. I let them know I was running to 7/11 and would be back in 10 minutes...upon my return - they were packed up and gone. A couple of days later, Mike came to inspect the damage and said that he would repair it. He also inspected the roof with my boyfriend at this time and my boyfriend was satisfied with the work. They repaired the ceiling and I would have never known there was damage. My complaint was that my boyfriend had to pretty much move everything out and we were left with cleaning and dusting things off from the debris. Accidents happen, I get that. But, we shouldn't be responsible for the cleanup. Now payment time, I ask Mike if he is taking anything off for the inconvenience and for me having to wash some of my clothes. His response was that he repaired our ceiling and he already helped out by replacing more sheathing than originally agreed upon. I appreciated that but I think my time, energy and money to get some things cleaned should have been addressed. Please don't get me wrong - Mike was respectful and I told him that we can agree to just disagree. I am satisfied with the work but there were hiccups along the way. read more

BEWARE! We sought consultation and Mike Locher seemed to know what he was talking about. The concern was a condensation issue that we were having. He also inspected our roof and didn't find any sort of entry way for water to get in so he suggested solar fans (an intake and outtake). The problem, we learned later, within the 6 months warranty period that he gave us, that there is a dividing wall as a result of an addition and he had placed the outtake fan to help pull the air through from the front intake fan. Well, reached out to him and essentially told me it would be an extra charge to move that outtake fan, despite the fact that the work which was costly did not resolve the actual issue or intent of what was supposed to happen. He asked me for more information about the dividing wall. I sent him photos in June 2017 and it is now March 2018 and I have yet to hear from him OR anyone from this company to help resolve this issue. They simply want to rush in and out and grab your money! Again, beware when considering this company for any sort of work to be done or remedied. read more

PG Builders was responsive to my initial call and came to see my problem and give an estimate that same day. I had a leaking pipe that required me to cut holes in my wall and living room ceiling. These were smallish holes, so when I called PG Builders for an estimate the owner explained I should add on other work to make the cost of their time to come address it worth it. Other contractors had either said the job was too small for them to do at all or that it would cost an unreasonably high amount. Based on his recommendation, I added an improvement task I had been wanting to do but hadn't gotten around to yet. In the end we agreed to do the wall/ceiling patch work, painting, and the added task of removing a full-length mirror from a living room wall and painting it to match the rest of the room. Luckily I still had paint left over that matched to do this. The owner and foreman were knowledgeable about the best way to make the repairs and remove the mirror from the wall. The job took longer than expected, but the work was done well and looks very nice. The living room wall that used to have the mirror now matches the other walls perfectly. I would call PG Builders again for additional repair or improvement work. read more

PG Builders did a total tear off of our flat pedestrian roof which had been installed incorrectly by the builder just two years before. PG had to remove multiple layers of cement (as applied by the original builder), cut through metal lathe (also erroneously installed by builder), and then remove two layers of rotted substrate. After tear off, PG had to correct the slope, replace all plywood, add drains and then install Duradek pedestrian membrane over entire surface and up parapet walls, with matching flashing. Done on time, as promised, very professional, with great attention to detail. Mike Locher (the manager) is very responsive to customer questions, very patient in his explanations, honest in his assessments, and totally trustworthy. We were even comfortable leaving Mike and his crew at the house when we were not home. That says a lot. His expertise and integrity were unbeatable! Note that this job was considered extremely complex; 5 of the 8 roofing companies who assessed the situation - opted not to quote as they had no idea how to deal with the structural issues; 2 of the eight who did quote - disclaimed any and all warranties due to the severity of the problems. Mike, however, not only gave a detailed quote of exactly how he would address each and every issue but he was so confident that his crew had the expertise to do the job that he provided a 10 year warranty on labor and materials. We cannot say enough good things about PG Builders and Mike Locher. Mike went above and beyond the "call of duty" in doing this job. Being that PG is a general contractor as well - they will be the only company we call when we need renovations (not just roof repairs). Also, Mike is licensed in DC, and knows how to deal with our bureaucratic permit system. How much better can it get? read more

PG Builders is very fast, efficient and reliable. I had a leak in my roof and called several contractors. Mike Locher was very quick to respond and come check my roof. They repaired the work the next day while I was at work. Mike is proactive and professional. I subsequently used PG Builders to paint my front door and the trim around my front window. They did a great job, once again. On another occasion over a year later, I called Mike and asked if he could come take a look at a drain pipe under my deck. He came the next day while I was at work and fixed it free of charge. I was stunned and couldn't believe that he did that. I appreciate Mike and PG Builders and will definitely use them again. I saw the great yelp reviews and contacted them a couple of weeks ago, but pretty disappointed in the end. Michael was nice and easy to talk to. He was busy at the time and he had his father-in-law call me back in a couple of days. We were in the process of closing our new house, needed some painting job, small plumbing and electronic work, attic insulation, and a possible closet extension. Michael's father-in-law was very nice on the phone, he realized that these jobs were easier small jobs, and we could just hire a handy man. But he said he could still help us, he can do the painting, and take care of the plumbing and electric work, except for the attic insulation(we decided not to do the closet). He gave me a ballpark estimate of $1,400 to $1,500. He said they can finish it in 2 to 3 days, I just needed to call after the closing and they would take care of it. Their office close on Dec 15th, they could just take care of it before they close for the year. We were happy about the price and thinking that they would be the right contractor to hire after the closing. We just closed our new house yesterday, and called them immediately. After a few messages and calls, we were finally able to get hold of Michael. However, he has a complete different price estimate about the project. He told me that the same project would cost $4000, and they do not take any projects that is less than $4000. And they don't have time until January to do the work. I mentioned about his father-in-law's price, he said that that price was not worth them coming. What a surprise! I might be naïve to believe the price in the first place, but it is disappointing to hear such different prices from the same company. Maybe P.G. builders only serve clients with work worth more than $4000, they should let us know in the beginning. We won't bother to wait and contact them again. Now we have missed our window of opportunity of contacting the contractors, we have to start searching again... We don't have the chance to rate their actual service, so this review is about their pre-service communication. Hope it helps. UPDATE(12/16/14): The owner, Mr. Kebeck called me and apologized for the miscommunication. He planned to honor what he said before but we already hired another contractor to do the majority of the work. We did have some electrical work on our plate and he brought in his electrician and gave us a fair price for the work and got the job done. Buyer Beware!!! Had window replaced by PG Builders. They did a swap from the original promised windows and then installed the improperly fitted window incorrectly. They came out 3 time to fix a sloppy installation and the window still leaked air after a year because they installed with out insulation. They used the avoidance at first.. Will be out and they cancel appt. They told me to call when it happens again. Owner was very aggressive and combative. Of course only after you paid him in full. I called BBB. Their response was I wanted something for free and cant help the lady.. I ended up getting new windows that properly fit. They talk a great game. I was advised to go to the licensing board with the picture I took showing they didn't install to specs. read more

My wife and I moved into a house that had a shoddy roof repair done to it before we moved in. Our home inspector told us the repair would make it another year or so. The heavy June rain that we got disagreed. Being that the forecast called for even more rain later in the week, I called five or six roofing companies to try and get them to come out quickly. Was coming up with nothing until I got in touch with PG Builders. Mike came out on a Tuesday, gave us a quote, and was putting a new roof on our house the following day. The job was done very efficiently, and Mike sent me pictures of the progress that his guys were making throughout the day. One side note...when the roofers were working, they removed an old pipe that damaged some ceiling drywall work. Mike sent guys out the very next day to fix the ceiling drywall. Unprofessional. I'd advise taking your business elsewhere. I called PG builders on Monday to get an estimate on some work in my house. Steve, the owner referred my call to his son-in-law, Michael, in order to schedule an appointment. I left a voice message on Michael's phone. Hours later I sent a follow-up text message to Michael about scheduling an appointment. Not a word from Michael in 3 days. Then, on Thursday I called Steve back in order to see if there was some other way/person to schedule an appointment with. Steve answered the phone and said, "we're out of town, bye" and hung up the phone. If this is how they do initial scheduling I can only imagine how terrible it is to communicate with this company if you actually hire them. Look elsewhere... read more

We hired PG Builders last spring to do a small project as a test for future work. We had them install three exterior doors for us. The two sliders are ok - except you have to try six times before they will lock but I will blame the doors for that. As for the front door - our contract said the door would seal properly - they came out at least 5 times to try and fix it but when the sales guy tried to give me instructions the last time over the phone on how to fix it myself I just never bothered to call them again. Every day I walk by the front door and see light coming in and feel air coming in. It drives me crazy. I ignored the workman asking to make coffee, throwing cigarette butts in the yard and missing the driveway to leave a huge rut in the yard but now I have to be reminded every day when I see the front door that I paid them money for this horrible job. I should post pictures of the door jam to show the screws sticking out and all of the cut marks - it looks like a 5 year old did it. Maybe they should stick to roof installations. read more
