This roofing company does not tell the truth nor do they stand behind their work. The owner does not return phone calls. They are unethical and do questionable work. AVOID them or live to regret it. read more

It was raining in our fireplace. We hired a chimney company to fix it. 3 visits and 8 months later there was no improvement and we were told to ask a roofer. We had used D & M over the years for a new roof on 2 different houses, new gutters, new siding and a new pair of sliding patio doors. They always did great work, but we didn't know that they also fixed chimneys. Todd knew immediately what needed to be done and where it was leaking just by looking at the water stains on the brick. D & M replaced the cement crown and a section of brick, as well as a few smaller repairs. That was in February and not one drop of water has fallen into the fireplace since. read more

Update: Since my last review I've had them come back out and replace my roof and the sliding glass door for my deck. The total cost for the roof was right on with the other estimates I got (actually a little less, I think -- the other estimates didn't include the nifty venting thing that these guys put in) and I got the same deal for the deck that I got for the patio (same guy came out to do the work, too). No problems at all. When they did the roof I requested that they pay special attention to the chimney because I've been getting water in there from somewhere, quite possibly due to bad flashing. I can see from the ground where they significantly improved the flashing so hopefully that'll solve that problem, too. All in all, I think I lucked out with my method of "pick the closest contractor available". If it looks like I'm going to be in this place long term, I think I'll see if they remodel bathrooms... Incidentally, he came by after hours to get the final measurements for the door, and I didn't have to be home for the roof (either the estimate or the work) so I only had to take 1 day off to let the guy in to install the door. Edit/update again: I also had them come out and powerwash and apply sealant to the deck. The deck is new, built by the previous owner just last year, but it was weathering terribly -- I don't think they ever sealed it. It was also missing a couple slats, which I never mentioned to the D&M guys. The day of the job, I got home to the smell of sealant in the air and not only was the deck nicely sealed but the missing slats had been replaced with no mention or charge. Honestly, D&M isn't the cheapest on the block, but you get what you pay for. This is the 4th separate job I've had them do (5 if you count the powerwash separately) and it's all been good work. read more

Pro - well recommended, did a great job, good customer service. Con - I would have given them five stars except for the sloppy side effects. My yard was littered with small clear plastic tabs they pulled off shingles and then threw onto the ground. Worse, my house and windows have small bits of tar all over which you can only get off by scrapping with your finger nail which could take me the next several years. read more

Called this company on a Monday--phone was answered by a pleasant woman who sounded like she might be in charge. Told her I wanted an estimate for a new roof. After a very short conversation, she transferred me to someone whom she said did the scheduling. I then asked the scheduler woman (who was less pleasant) if someone could come out to give me an estimate later in the same week, perhaps Weds or Thurs. She said they were very busy. I said I had other roofers coming out later in the week and would like to get all the estimates at roughly the same time. She then said she'd check with the estimator and give me a callback. Never got a callback (much less an estimate) so I called in again 3 days later on Thursday. Again the same pleasant woman answered the phone and immediately transferred me to the scheduler who was terse and slightly arrogant. She said she might be able to fit me in for an estimate in about two weeks! I said in that case forget it, needed it done faster. She THEN said she might be able to work my estimate in on the following Monday, would check with the estimator and call me back. Needless to say, that callback never came either. It's funny how the other, very busy, A+ rated BBB accredited roofers that I contacted all managed to come out with 3-7 days after initial contact. Most irksome of all is that rather than simply saying "I'm sorry, we're scheduling estimates 2-3 weeks out" right up front, D&M twice made callback promises that weren't kept and the attitude communicated by the scheduler is that THEY'RE doing ME a favor. I won't waste another minute on D&M. There are plenty of other highly rated roofers in the Gaithersburg area, who are quickly responsive and very happy to talk to you. read more

Our house had a serious water infiltration problem where it was entering in a gap between the deck and siding and leaking into the basement through a sliding glass door. D&M installed flashing around the ledger board and caulked all the openings, replaced the rotten wood and sliding glass door, and made some roof repairs for $5500. The project is guaranteed for two years not to leak. The team was professional and, while the price was on the high side, we are very satisfied with it. read more

I am an architectural designer and former general contractor. I first met Troy (one of the owners) about 20 years ago when I was looking for a roofing subcontractor for my construction business. Other contractors that used him referred him to me. His company did all the roofing and siding for all of my construction projects and I had very few issues. Anything my clients or I felt needed correction was done immediately without question. Once the work was done, I never had any "call backs". D & M has done the roofing, siding, replacement windows, and painting on my own home. They just recently replaced (free) one of the window sashes that had developed a leak after 5 years. Hired them 6 yrs ago to replace all 8 windows in my townhouse, the 2 hispanics guys led by Santiago did a great job!. This guy is an artist with the caulk gun!. Price was right!. 4 stars only because yes! They are busy! Sometimes too busy to reply your request as prompt as other companies. But they are small, family local company to support. They did 5-star work for us, not cheap but worth what we paid, in 1996. I recently called about another roofing repair/replacement, this time for a rental property, had to schedule a week ahead for the estimate. At 7:30 on the morning of the scheduled visit, I was awakened out of a sound sleep by a call from one of the two brother owners, who wanted to reschedule with an hour's notice, insufficient time to contact the tenants and reschedule, and requiring me to radically rearrange my day schedule. Calling the office later, I learned that they could maybe fit me in 12 days later. I sympathize with their desire to serve as many clients as possible in the aftermath of storms, but what I want is to be able to rely on a business that meets commitments. This company was referred to me by my daughter's friend. I had to pay $75.00 for somebody to come out and give me an estimate, shame on me. If he was coming to estimate the roof it would be free but, I wanted something else done too. His recommendation was to move the fixtures instead of raising the roof. Good job on that! The big problem was his estimate was $10,000 more than other estimates I recieved. This seem s quite a bit high. Not only am I getting the job done for $10,000 less but, I'm getting a longer warranty on the shingles, a 30 year instead of 25. He also wanted to put a 12 year on a low slope roof. The company I chose is putting a rubber underlayment on with a 30 year shingle. Maybe down in Potomac he is cheaper but, where I live he is outragious. read more

I can't even give one star to this company. I need a repair to my gutters and they will not come to my house to estimate the job unless I pay $95 up front. This would be refunded if they get the job. I guess they don't need my work. Other companies can give me a ball park figure over the phone based on the length of the piece to be replaced. I also have someone coming to give me an estimate. Too bad for D&M -- I am located less than 3 miles from their workshop. read more

15 year ago I paid D&M Enterprises approximately $20,000 to replace a roof and install 3 skylights. A bit arrogant, but they did a nice job. Called them back a few weeks ago to have them over to repair portions of the soffit/cornice that had suffered some water damage and to see about replacing the built in gutters. Spoke to a pleasant woman who looked up my file and told me someone would call back later that day to schedule an estimate. I agreed to pay the $95 for the estimate (to be applied if D&M is contracted to so the work). When no one called by the next day, I called back. This time the woman seemed a bit put out that I felt the need to call back. She explained that Troy (the managing brother) was busy but that he would call back shortly. Two weeks later and still no call. It may be that D&M still does good work, but if past is prologue, expect to be treated as though they're doing you a favor taking your job. And apparently it's wishful thinking to believe that you'll be given any special consideration, if any consideration at all, just because you're a previous customer. read more
