    Before: front of house
    Adam G.

Words and pictures cannot do justice to the amazing work Miguel Garza and his team did in a total transformation of our house over the better part of last year. We bought this house knowing that it was going to be a "fixer upper" but nobody knew just how much work was going to be required. Miguel's team ran a project that included a full gut rehab of the entire property, including digging out a wet basement, adding french drains, laying a new slab, converting the basement into an attached apartment, adding a roof top dormer addition, a new deck, five new bathrooms and two new kitchens. All of this work was done to a house that had been neglected for nearly a hundred years and needed a lot of work. Miguel had to contend with a completely saturated basement, poor/missing foundations, nonsensical walls and layouts, crooked floors, rotting wood, plans that were complicated by shifting requirements, scrutiny from our historic and tree preservation regulators, an array of different subcontractors and workers going in and out and he did it all to perfection. This job would not have been possible without his total and complete professionalism and expertise throughout the entire experience. In addition to Miguel, his core crew and wife Soraya also deserve our sincere gratitude for their continued commitment to us and the project. There were many things the team did for us that was extra work for them just because they wanted to make sure they did the job correctly. This included, in many cases, Miguel sacrificing some of his overall margin. His workers, for how hard they worked, often times in extreme temperatures, never complained and were always willing to put in extra effort to correct a problem. In the end a new house was essentially built and extended from the inside out. Garza Contractors are not only engineers, they are artists and also good, honest, ethical people. We give them our highest recommendation!

We have used Garza Contractors twice now to renevoate a kitchen and bathroom in our condo. We had wonderful experiences both times. Their rates are very competative and they are very professional. I highly recommed them and plan to use them again in the future.

Please note that I am providing my review for Garza's consultation and process of estimation specifically. I have not hired this company to perform any work. I requested a consult to repair some minimal heat damage to two pieces of vinyl siding (photos included). The owner, Soraya, got back to me very quickly and was very responsive but I was disappointed in the estimate provided. Before receiving the estimate, I had three licensed and insured reputable contractors come out in person to inspect the damage and provide a quote. All three of them provided an estimate between $200-250 for the repair, which includes materials and color matching. Garza Contractors quoted me $1800 for the repair based on the photos. The owner stated that the reason was because they had to remove more siding to repair it correctly. I voiced my concerns but the owner would not consider providing me a reassessment for another quote. I did some research and found that on average, a more major repair for more significant damage would cost $400 - $600 max. $1800 is 2.5x the average asking price and at this point, seems a bit dishonest. I would recommend that anyone planning on working with Garza Contractors to do their research and get multiple estimates from different companies to ensure that you're being quoted accurately before moving forward.

    Uneven steps in backyard

Garza Contractors replaced my porch with a beautiful new one. My house was built in 1916, so this required a really skilled contractor. The porch had been wood that someone covered with concrete. (Why? I don't know.) The steps were uneven, of differing heights, and not level. As a temporary measure years ago, I had another contractor place wood on the steps to even them out, but the wood was no longer secured to the steps. The concrete floor of the porch was cracked. The hand railing was rotted and disconnected from the brick column on the ground. The brick column was not stable and could have been easily knocked over. No other contractor that I had consulted over the years was willing to tackle this job. Garza also replaced the concrete landing at the foot of porch as well as the crumbling front steps from the sidewalk to the landing and the concrete steps from the landing down to the cellar door. The steps by the cellar had been of different heights and were not level. In the backyard, Garza restacked and cemented stairs (made of paver blocks), adding manufactured stone treads that I had already purchased. All of the work was done expertly and within just a few weeks. I didn't expect Miguel Garza to meet his timeline, but he did by sending a pretty big crew. The porch turned out much, much better than I had ever expected, and it makes the whole house look new! The concrete steps and landing are smooth and even. At first, I was not completely satisfied with the work on the back steps, but Miguel Garza took personal responsibility for a miscommunication with his workers and had the work redone to my satisfaction promptly and at no additional cost. Garza Contractors are my new contractors. I expect to have them back next year to paint the house, replace my retaining wall, and do some other work on my property. I highly recommend them. I HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE LOADING PHOTOS . SORRY FOR THE DUPLICATES!

Garza Contractors did a fabulous job on our deck construction, including demolition of old deck, county inspections, cleanup, and landscaping. Their crew was diligent, respectful of our property, and very accomodating of small issues and changes. Would use them again, and highly recommended!

We have used Garza for a bathroom, basement, and main floor remodel and they are amazing to work with. They have been patient and helpful throughout our planning and permitting process, even when supply chain issues stalled out a project for over a month. The team does incredible work and their service is reasonably priced. There were never any issues with the crew and we will 100% use this contractor again in the future!

Perfect tile work. Miguel and Gustavo maximized the shape of the room and created shelves where the room had extra space.

As said in my previous review, we were so impressed by our kitchen renovation with Garza Contractors last year that we invited them back. We just had them finish: (1) bathroom renovation including adding a shower to a half bath, (2) door installation, (3) basement bedroom finishing and painting, and (4) exterior foundation sealing and waterproofing. Once again, we are more than happy with the quality of the work done by Miguel and his guys (especially Gustavo!). Not only were they hardworking, friendly, and responsive to questions and suggestions, they were also very conscientious. When we did the foundation sealing and waterproofing, the guys had to dig up some plants along the side of our house. We asked them to put the plants aside so we could replant them, but the workers went above and beyond and even replanted them for us! That is just one of many examples of how exceptional they are. You couldn't ask for more in your home contractors! We have recommended them to our friends and coworkers and look forward to working with them again in the future.

I had an excellent experience with H&C Construction on my kitchen remodel. From start to finish,…read moretheir communication, project management, quality of work, and ability to stay on schedule were outstanding. H&C was not the least expensive quote I received, but they also weren't the most expensive. In my experience, the value they delivered more than justified the investment. One of the things I found particularly valuable was the project management app they use. It made it easy to manage the project from end to end, stay informed, review decisions, and keep everything organized in one place. The design phase did take some time, but it was time very well spent. Once we finalized the design, everything moved at a great pace, and the execution was smooth and well coordinated. This was actually my second project with H&C Construction this year, and I am once again very pleased with the results. The fact that I chose to work with them a second time says a lot about my confidence in their team and the quality of their work. I would highly recommend H&C Construction to anyone considering a kitchen remodel. They are professional, organized, communicative, and committed to delivering quality work--and they made what can be a stressful process feel very well managed.

I did not have a good experience at all with this company. First, they changed project managers on…read moreme just before they came out to do that work without explanation. When the work started, they moved at a glacier pace with erratic attendance. There were days they did not show up at all, other days they would show up unexpectedly at 7am, and leave at 10am. This was never communicated with me. Next, mistakes started happening. They painted the walls the wrong color. They put up the shower door on the wrong side. They also put up the window blind backwards so I couldn't reach or use the rod to open and close it. After the shower door went up backwards, the project manager fired the workers, but the had no one to finish the work. When they finally came back to fix the shower tiles wrecked when the door went up on the wrong side, they didn't align the replacement tile patterns with each other so the pattern is disjointed and doesn't line up at all. The project manager told me it's not supposed to line up!? After complaining about it 3 times, they finally offered to replace the tiles. But they stalled on ordering them and now it's out of stock. There are also other problems - the shower faucets are not properly secured to the shower walls, the vanity light is separating from the wall and the light switch fixture is also separating from the wall. The floor tile is irregular with grout lines sometimes thick in places, other times nonexistent. Currently, they are not returning my calls or texts. I've even reached out to the owner who came out and promised to fix everything, but commented that I was overly concerned with "small" details. Now he has not returned my calls or texts about when he will come to fix things. Maybe I am concerned with details but I'd think that is common when paying 20k to have a bathroom redone according to an approved plan. At the very least, I expected that shower tile patterns would match up and that things would be well grouted or secured in shower and on walls. This was my first renovation in my first home and I'm so disappointed in how it turned out and how I was treated by the team. Also, this 2 week project took 5 and 1/2 weeks to get to where it is now. Overall the project was done carelessly with no attention to detail and with no acceptance of their mistakes and no attempt to repair the problems identified. I see they have had good reviews in the past, but my project did not go well at all. I would definitely recommend choosing another company. When I first complained they asked me not to write a bad review and I said that along as everything was fixed we had a deal. Nothing has been fixed and they are not communicating with me. I know have to either pay another company more money to fix their mistakes or take legal action to resolve the simple issues that could be easily fixed. If detail and having a project done to your liking is important I would not recommend H&C at all.
