Last night I ordered the tonkatsu ramen and I wouldn't order it again. The egg was over cooked, the meat wasn't tasty and cut too thin, and the mushrooms were strangely sweet. I did order take-out, so that could've been a bit of a different experience. And even though I was late for pick-up, the order was still pretty hot which I was surprised with. Ozen is one of the better sushi spots I've tried in London, so I was disappointed after trying the ramen. I gave it 3 stars because I usually like the sushi, but if it was just for the ramen I'd give it 2 stars. read more

Came to Ozen with a couple of friends for lunch and really enjoyed the food here! We ordered a variety of foods from the sashimi platters to the Katsu and thought everything was delicious. The portions were fairly large especially the Katsu - you can probably share this among two people. The restaurant itself is in a nice cozy space so you probably will have to squish a bit when you're talking to your table but you should be able to sit comfortably. The food presentation is pretty nice and you can definitely get some good Insta pics. The only downside was that we were in a bit of a rush and it took a while to flag our server down. 2.5/5 I ordered their San Roll Set and Beef Dumpling Soup. The service was nice and the dumpling was nice. That was the only reason why it's a 3 star instead of a 2. The dynamite roll was very thin and the shrimp was really small. The spicy salmon roll and the spicy tuna roll had so much tempura bits and cucumber that I couldn't taste the fish. It also came with a sweet but spicy sauce which did not go too well with the roll. I may try their other dishes but I was disappointed since it has such high reviews. read more

Ozen was hyped up for me a lot during the time that I've been in London, but I was warned that it was overpriced. Walking in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch, I was surprised by how small the restaurant was. It's cozy interior has some tables and booths, but we were seated at a long, canteen style table. I heard great things about the rocket rolls, so I ordered rocket roll #2 with the ichi roll set (spicy salmon & spicy tuna). We also shared the sashimi ceviche, as we had a free appetizer coupon. The torched tuna on top of the rocket roll seemed too smoked for my taste. The ichi rolls were fabulous though, and I enjoyed the ceviche as well. Portions were large, and we both had leftovers to take home. Service was a little slow - I think they could do with one or two more servers. Ozen used to be my favourite sushi place in downtown London. However, ever since Sakata opened I've been coming here a lot less because I'm a ramen fanatic (why not have the best of both worlds?). In terms of the sushi, Ozen has a nice selection with lots of combos to choose from. Their fish is always fresh and well presented. However, they do tend to drench their rolls in sauces. Their specialty rolls (especially the rocket rolls) are mind blowing - a bit on the pricey side but definitely worth it. In terms of the ambience, I would have to agree with some of the other reviews that they don't have the most comfortable seats and it can get really crowded during rush hours. The service here is quite friendly and fast unless they're really busy. They also provide you with little pieces of gum after the meal to freshen your breath :). read more

Arrived just before they closed, it was a very quiet evening - we were the only ones in the restaurant. Needless to say, the food came out very quickly after we ordered. There are lots of pricey things on the menu. And the portion sizes are small. Presentation is decent. The 8-piece Ozen roll I had (their specialty, $14) didn't feel very special nor was it especially satisfying. At first, we were told they'd give us fish ice cream for dessert, but then they came back and told us otherwise and instead we got 6 scoops of ice cream on 2 plates for the 5 of us. I'm not sure how they decided that it'd be best to share 6 scoops between 5 people by putting it on 2 plates....?! Oh well, free is free so can't complain. Great food, but moderate service and comfort, and steep prices. It's a pretty cramped space, but I would come here if I was craving special sushi rolls or Japanese tapas. I would highly recommend the Spider Roll, which is crunchy, savoury and sweet all in one bite. The seafood okonomayaki (a pan fried cabbage pancake with veggies) is massive and quite tasty, although it is not a traditional style okonomayaki. The sushi pancake was neat-- tiny deep-fried rice patties topped with salmon sashimi and special sauce. Dropped in for lunch. First impressions: cool atmosphere, TV was showing news and playing kpop. Since it was our first visit, we ordered the meal a bit on the safe side, within our comfort zone. Very delicious Korean food, however everything I end up going to Ozen, my jacket smells like koren BBQ and hotpot by the end of the night. I tend to avoid going because of how hard it is to get the smell out of my clothes after. In the picture, I ordered a dumpling soup which was perfect for the chilly weather. This place is at Richmond and Central. Small, hole in the wall but as soon as you step in, you are transported to a cozy (but modern) well lit location. A lot more ambience than the Oxford location, in my opinion! Came here with 2 co-workers for a work lunch. They have a menu for lunch specials, however, one of the items is not on the menu. They should at least put a label over that item if re-printing menus is not in the plan... Food was delivered quickly, and was delicious! I had the Korean combo with spicy chicken and it came with lots of saucy spicy chicken with onions and zucchini, about a cup of rice, miso soup, small salad, 3 sweet-potato sushis, and 2 gyozas. Lots of food for $15 (once you factor in the tax and tip). My coworker ordered vegetable tempura and they didn't trim the asparagus so one of the pieces was actually the bottom half - inedible. Otherwise, everything was yummy. The place got pretty full right at 12pm when they open. Service was also great, we had people checking on us frequently. This is a review for the NEW business on Wonderland and Oxford (hoping that Yelp changes it back before someone reads this review) First off, this business seems to be a sister restaurant to the Ozen downtown (the waiters wear shirts with the logo of the other place in the front). That's where the similarities stop though. This is a Korean restaurant so NO, they don't offer sushi or Takoyaki or sashimi. No, those two foods are not the same. I ordered the dolsot bibimbap and my husband got the chicken katsu. The portion sizes are really generous and the food is not too shabby. I do wish my bowl had sit for a bit and scorched the rice more but I haven't really been able to get anything like that in London. The food is solid, and you can tell that because of how new this restaurant is, there is only room to grow. I can't wait to come back and try one of their hotpots. The atmosphere is by far, my favorite part of the experience. As soon as I walked in, the KPop was blasting and there were korean shows on the TV screens. I was transported back to KTown. I was home. They also have those very important and nifty buttons on the tables, so if you need anything, you press it and a waiter will rush right out to help you. Super efficient. I can certainly see giving this place 5 stars in the future, after they have been around for a bit and give me more banchan :P read more

#1 stop in London when I'm in town. This cozy restaurant is home to some special rolls - the rocket roll is the first recommendation from fans of OZEN. Torched salmon adorns the sushi along with onions and a zesty orange sauce. Highly highly recommend. The meals are fairly good with the combos usually delivering a good balance between quantity and quality. My personal favourite is the OZEN Katsu Combo because of the Katsu and portion sizes. Overall was pretty happy with this place. Menu us large and there are things like takoyaki and okonomayaki (sp?) We had pork belly ramen noodles. Broth was great, but noodles were not as chewy and satisfying as we've had other places. Mix of meat , perfectly.poaxhed egg and mushrooms were good though. The tuna pizza was great. Bit sized portions, not the traditional round disk cut into slices. The takoyaki were smaller than most but actually alot easier to eat this way and the outside crunch from the outside with the soft pillowy inside texture really was spot on. A very small, cozy little restaurant with very good sushi and Korean dishes. This is probably one of those places where you would be better off ordering take out. The dining area is packed and tight which doesn't really make for a very comfortable dining experience. Service is fairly quick and wait staff so so. I was very impressed by their miso soup. It as delicious but, also lacking in tofu and seaweed. I ordered the Bulgogi Combo and my boyfriend the Karahi Yaki Combo. My rice was a little soggy and gyoza oily; other than that, the meal was great. For dessert we got the fish ice cream. I highly recommend the karahi yaki combo and the fish ice cream. Overall we were very happy with the meal. Side note: this place gets pretty busy, so don't expect to get a table during rush hour, and take out will be a little slow during that time too. read more

I came in town from Ohio on a Tuesday and walked Richmond St up and down looking for that perfect food that would speak to my ever-growing belly. I came across this little gem, ate by myself and slammed some serious food...normally when I say that, I regret it...didn't happen here... Edimame to start, 1/2 dozen oysters (which were recommended because they were fresh on Tuesdays) and a dragon roll! So good that I had to wash it down with an Asahi and Sapporo! :-P Plus, the staff was super friendly. This itty little sushi place on Richmond Row is one of my favourites! The restaurant is quite little so dont expect to be too too comfortable. It almost has a cafeteria like feel since you sit in very close proximity to strangers. Unless you score a booth in the back, there isnt much room here. The service is always very attentive. My tea and water was always being refilled. They made a mistake on our order one time and were very apologetic and fixed it right away. I find their fish to be very fresh and their rolls to be well made. All the servers here are very nice. If you are walking along Richmond street looking for a great meal, definitely pop into Ozen. Salad dressing was good but disappointed they used iceberg lettuce. Miso soup was amazing reminding me I must learn how to make it. Been here a couple of times for their sushi and udon noodles. This time I decided to go with something different and ordered their Veggie Okonomiyaki. It's a type of savory pancake that's mixed with a bunch of yummy ingredients like cabbage, seafood, onions, potatoes, steak sauce and mayonnaise. They also offer the Chicken Okonomiyaki and Beef Okonomiyaki. The flavour reminds me of the sauces they put on takoyaki. The pancake batter tastes like a non-greasy version of tempura and is pretty good when mixed with the mayo and okonomiyaki sauce (tastes kinda like steak sauce?). My only complaint is that they put sooo much cooked onions in the okonomiyaki. Not sure if this is supposed to be a big feature of okonoyami..better stick to tell 'em to cut back on the onions. Believe the hype! This is my favourite sushi place in London and I've tried a bunch of others (primarily on Richmond Street and the Wonderland/Oxford area). I love the atmosphere because it's lively but also cozy. O"zen offers an interesting environment that is much more pleasant than other sushi places along Richmond (although I enjoy Sakata as well). The booths at the back are sort of cramped but the tables provide a more comfortable experience. The servers are quick and friendly. I've never experienced a long wait time to be seated--people come and go at a reasonable pace. It isn't the type of place I would want to settle in for the whole evening but it does the job for a good meal. The spicy salmon, philadelphia and rocket roll #1 are my favourite. The Karahi Yaki and Bibimbop are delicious too! I would highly recommend trying this place next time you're on the Richmond strip. read more

Tastes like cheap all you can eat sushi, but costs you 10$ for a roll. I got the roll combo and it was disgusting. Literally could only taste sauce and tempura bits. There was way too much sodium in the sauces, miso soup and the soy sauce. If you enjoy sushi for the actual fish, then go to Sakata down the street. I only managed to get through 6 pieces before completely giving up trying to eat it. Packed up the rest of my plate and gave it away. I also had one of those student discount cards you can get from clubs at Western for 10% off, and the lady completely ignored the card and discount. This used to be my favourite sushi restaurant in London about 4-5 years ago and the pricier menu was in my opinion, well worth it for the quality of the food. However, the last 2-3 years have been a disappointment. The quality of the food has been decreasing and the place I once loved would no longer get my recommendation. In my last visit, the service was bad and the food was mediocre. The food was okay but not as good as it once was and there was still a scale on one of our sashimi pieces. Service was the greatest disappointment. We finished our meal with our soup and salad bowls still on the table!! Our tea was never refilled maybe because we were in the corner of the restaurant but still deserve the same service everyone else gets. I wanted to upgrade the roll to something special and was willing to pay more and they would not allow it. All sets had to be taken as is. Family is split on this one: half take the position that they have the best spider roll in the city, the other half prefer Shiki for the quantity, quality and wider selection of menu items. So, we alternate. You get a lot of food in the katsu combos (soup, salad, yam roll and gyoza), but the quality of the katsu itself is akin to the izakaya version of pub grub in that the fried part is what dominates the taste. Rolls can be expensive, with most around $13. Thirteen appears to be the magic number, as 13 pieces of vegetarian sushi is $17. Odd vegetarian vs animal-protein prices, such as $4.50 for a yam roll but $5 for a tuna roll. The tempura is quite good in both the vegetarian and shrimp versions ($8 each, but different quantities), and you can get it as a meal with sides for $16. They are good at accommodating allergies. Make sure to advise when you order any items that you don't need such as soy sauce, chopsticks, napkins, etc. Food is ready when promised for pick-up. read more
