We have been here before and the food was good, pricey but not too bad. The staff were very friendly both times. We were there this week and it had definitely changed. The food looked and tasted like the fryers were dirty and/or had very old oil in them. My husband had the tenderloin sandwich and fries. I had shrimp and fries. The fries were soggy when served, the shrimp battering was soggy and didn't taste good. For what we got it was seriously overpriced. read more

Tiny little town with two cafes, not a whole lot of choices. I imagine they get a lot of traffic from people who are visiting Horseshoe Canyon Ranch, which is exactly what we were doing. We decided to go into "town" on our off day and tried the cafe. I was glad I packed most of our meals, as I wouldn't want to eat here for four days. The food took a longgg time, refills were hard to come by. Most of our food - especially the burger and melt that we ordered were just warm, and obviously sitting for at least ten minutes before being served. I think they were waiting for the fried stuff - fried mushrooms and chicken tenders to be done before serving us. The patties in the burger and melt were dry, I would never order these here. Mushrooms and chicken were pretty good. Curly fries were not fresh but okay. All in all, I would not recommend, but when you have no choices, you can't be picky. What a treat! Good food and an amazing dessert. I had the catfish dinner with home cut fries, hush puppies, and pinto beans. It was way more catfish than I could have possibly eaten. I was looking forward to eating here, since I had heard such good things about it. From the moment my husband and I walked in, it started going downhill. The girl who seated us seemed annoyed that we were there. The waitress who came to take our order seemed annoyed as well. My husband ordered a burger, and he said it was fine. Not great, but fine. I ordered the pork tenderloin. It was ok. Tough and thin, but edible. I ordered mashed potatoes and carrots on the side. (The only two choices for vegetables was pinto beans or carrots.). The mashed potatoes were the instant, powdered kind. I couldn't believe it! And the carrots were clearly strait from a can with no seasoning or other attempt to spruce them up. And the roll on the side was the cheap kind you buy at the grocery store. Definitely not homemade, and not even good for store bought. I don't plan to be back. Next time, I plan to visit Low Gap and see if it lives up to its reputation. The Ozark Cafe did not. read more

Good home town food. Had the Saturday breakfast buffet. Overpriced, small selection, some of it cold. So why the four stars? Great staff, friendly service, felt at home. Would probably eat there again and get the same thing. Just think if they food was fresh, they had more to choose from, and the price was reasonable. Don's stay at the Ozark Inn. See my review about that. Stay at the Oxford Inn. Will stay at Oxford every time I ride the Pig Trail (which by the way was beautiful). Simply the best place in Newton county to dine. Employees are all local and believe me they ALL care that you have a good dining experience. They are a bit short handed at this time due to the virus. We saw this restaurant on MAN vs. FOOD. knowing of the place but never had tried it, but after seeing the food it became a must to do. With the on our side, it was a road trip. We got there and were received with a warm and friendly face even though we are still under COVID restrictions. We all tried something different on the menu. We started with Onion petals with ranch, and it was the best. One of us had the Volcano burger, which is burger loaded with cheese then circled in more cheese. A rueben with "tater" - which is potato salad made with sour cream and bacon - the best I have ever had. The rest of our party had the Ozark Cheeseburger, Fried Onion Burger, and the Patty Melt. Love, love, love this place. My husband and I always stop here when we go to Arkansas. This place has amazing food, their burgers and fries are excellent and I highly recommend trying the fried portabella mushrooms. I love the atmosphere here, they have history all around and that makes this history buff feel right at home. The staff is amazing, they are very informative about their menu and everything local. I personally love that this place is located in a dry county, no alcohol. It is so nice to be able to go to a place and not worry about someone getting drunk at the table next to yours. This place has live music on the weekends, you can either choose a table back with the band or sit up front to have a more intimate meal. This is an excellent place to take your family, friends, or just a couples day/evening. You will definitely be greeted with a smile and will not be disappointed. It's a must try in Jasper. Stumbled upon this gem during what ended up being the Elk Festival so they only had a limited menu. But what they did have was delicious. The chicken strips had the right kind of breading for this gal, not ridiculously thick and crunchy, just a nice even layer. The staff was INCREDIBLY friendly and treated everyone like family. Hubby and I spent two nights and three days in a little cabin up the road from Jasper. Rather than cook, we decided to go dine at Ozark Cafe for our meals...and WHAT AWESOME MEALS! Their food comes in large portions for great prices, their staff is friendly and accommodating. One of the first places in the Ozarks we've been to that makes hash browns properly and seasons their food perfectly. The meals we had the first night were the chicken fried chicken - AMAZING! And the 12 oz Ribeye - beef is pricy right now, but that was worth it. The crown jewel of that meal was the fried mushroom appetizer. The mushrooms were HUGE, and battered like fried chicken. The best we have ever had! The next morning was breakfast - omelets. I don't usually like American Cheese on my omelet, but these were perfection. For dinner the second night we opted to try their famous "Volcano Burger", and WHOA! That fried cheese skirt was a meal on its own! Their salad bar is great. And the topper is their tender, flaky fried hand pies. So amazing. 10/10 Highly recommended! read more

6 of us spent 4 nights in Jasper doing lots of hiking. We ate 9 meals at Ozark Cafe and enjoyed every one of them! Wonderful service, friendly staff, good food, lots of options. We enjoyed a variety for breakfast - eggs cooked just as we wanted, their special recipes for hash browns, omelettes, and french toast were so yummy, huge pancakes with warm syrup, and wonderful biscuits with gravy. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, the grilled chicken and teriyaki chicken were juicy and tender as well. The southwest salad was spicy, burgers were big and juicy, ribeye steak was cooked perfectly. Fried pickles had a crispy batter that stayed on the pickle as it should, and came with ranch for dipping. We splurged on fried cheesecake, shakes and malts, and blackberry cobbler with ice cream. Also enjoyed the singer/guitarist on Saturday night. Nobody in our group had a complaint about anything at Ozark Cafe! read more

Since new ownership the food has definently downgraded. Meat I feel should be sourced locally and not so dry and tough or crumbly from being a corporate manufactured product. Good meal after a long hike. Patty melt was pretty well loaded up with cheese and onions. Philly Burger was decent as well. I'd probably skip the mashed potatoes and white gravy in the future, though. We both got a shake to go and enjoyed them. As for fresh fruit to add to milkshakes, they had blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries... But when it came time for bananas they use flavored syrup. Seemed backwards. Enjoyed a fabulous breakfast here on a rainy Saturday morning. Big breakfast of eggs and bacon with great hash browns that were not too greasy and the best homemade biscuit and gravy. For a country breakfast joint, this spot hits all the marks. We actually made a trip out to Jasper, in part, just to come here. It's simple, old-timey, the kind of place you order a steak and flapjacks and eat the kind of meal that would normally feed you for a week. For that, they're outstanding. The menu has been "modernized" ever so slightly, just to show that they're paying attention, but also very classic to show that they know what they're good at and what people come for! The restaurant feels similar - it's very much the same place it's been for over a hundred years, but very well kept up and inviting to a new crowd as well as the regulars. There's a dining area that feels like an old school diner, but with a century worth of newspaper clippings tastefully painted into the walls. And twenty-foot ceilings. Seriously, it's insanely tall. Then just next door is an attached area for concerts and events, sadly we missed any live music, but I'll bet they do a great job of it there. I liked the coffee a lot - the endless, frequently re-filled coffee. Yum! We got an omelette to split and I wanted to try the biscuits and gravy, but made the mistake of ordering a full one. Man, we were stuffed to the gills, even splitting that. And every bite was oh so worth it :D If you're in the area, definitely stop by to check it out. When temperatures cool just a bit, a day trip through the Ozarks to that little hamlet of Jasper, is always a good idea. The Ozark Cafe is packed with historical charm ( it is right on the square in downtown Jasper). Menus are waiting for you on the table. I ordered the chicken fried steak sandwich with curly fries. The portions were huge. I cant tell you it was the best ever, but it was good. The fries were frozen from the bag, and that was disappointing. Bottom line, will I return? Most likely. There's plenty of choices on the menu to try. And it's Jasper in the Ozarks, so what's not to love? read more

As far as small town cafes go, this was probably our favorite! Its celebrating its 100 th yr! Friendly staff, quick service for as many customers come through! Am I missing something? I'm seeing loads of really good reviews but I'm sitting at home after dinner at the Ozark Cafe and I'm a little nauseous. My husband got the Ozark burger and couldn't eat it. I got Ma's fried chicken. I buttered the roll that came with the meal and took a big bite but had to spit it out. It tasted and smelled fermented like moldy bread. My corn was too dry to eat. Nasty. Unfriendly and unorganized staff. Very concerning sanitation. I have enjoyed coming here before but after today I will not go back. We were put on the waiting list and then they sat people that came in after us. Once we were sat we waited 15 minutes and no one ever came by to take our order or bring water. No one even said hello. During our time there we noticed the staff were yelling over the tops of tables at each other trying to fix messed up orders and tickets. They did not have any running water so the toilets were nasty and no water to wash hands. They need a health department inspection please. read more

Stopped here before our float trip in the buffalo. Really awesome breakfast menu at a great price. The pancakes were delicious and the cinnamon rolls are super sweet and the size of your face. Took a while to get our food, but the staff was nice about it. Lots of signs hanging on the walls so it's fun to look around. Bathrooms are very clean, too. read more

My parents and I decided to stop here while on our way to the Arkansas Grand Canyon. There aren't a lot of restaurants in the area, but one of the neighbors had recommended it. Super cute place that has been in business since 1909, and has a lot of old photos and newspaper clippings throughout the restaurant. I had the Southwest Burger, which was delightfully spicy--very good! The curly fries were an added bonus as well. While I didn't try the breakfast, all of the options looked awesome and I'd love to go back for that! I'd definitely go back when in the area. read more
