What's beautiful park! The play structure is massive!!! It has varying skill areas, and is over that soft bouncy turf that is so great. No woodchips or sand- the sand is at the beach! The playground could use more shade. It gets pretty hot in the direct heat. There is a lot of space for playing on the grass and having picnics. Dunes are really fun to explore with kids. Parking is paid, which is bummer. read more

Our kids call this the "Pirate Park" because of the wonderful kids playground theme, but it's much more than that. There is a huge grass field (1 of the biggest in Oxnard!) that includes a baseball backstop & the open space allows for a variety of sports to be played, at the same time. Two sand volleyball courts sit just before the beach. Large covered picnic tables can be reserved (Phone # is posted on covering.). There are additional UNcovered picnic tables with a grill interspersed along the outer grass rim. Beach is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Sand is easy on the feet, too! Unlike some of the more southern beaches, there are no sharp pebbles/rocks in the sand to contend with here! Also, ya GOTTA remember, this is the Pacific Ocean at Oxnard, so water tends to be a WHOLE BUNCHA CHILLY here! Then ya got Mr. Wind doing that thang he does to get it pretty breezy at times. Wouldn't be a bad idea to bring some strong tape. ;) At busier times of the year, there is a park attendant, which means an entrance fee may be expected. Makes me feel better when I think its to help maintain the parks. Someone please tell me that's true! All in all, a choice spot in Oxnard for some park time. Have fun!!! This is a really huge park, a bit colder and windier than other parks but very nice. You have to pay the attendant to park so have some loose dollars ready, dont know if you can pay with a credit card or not. They have lots of green grassy areas, miles of sandy beach to walk with plenty benches to sit and just watch the waves, some trails for biking skating and jogging, and a kids play area. There's also a picnic/barbeque area,volleyball courts, and is wheelchair accessible. For the pet owners, the park is dog friendly, but they must be on a leash and you must pick up their poop. I initially came here to wash off from a 5K mud run I did. I figured they'd have outside showers and I was right; they are located on the backside of the bathroom building(facing the beach), to where I had to take an ice cold shower to get the mud off( yup, in my underwear-just looked like a bathing suit). I saw a wedding party here, they were taking some nice pictures, also saw LOTS of kite flyers which was really nice to watch too. We couldn't leave here without sticking our toes in the sand so we walked for a while and enjoyed the waves. I'm sure you'll enjoy this beach too. read more

I was here for a one year old birthday party and it was really nice. The park itself had small tables set up all around with a mini gate that separates it from the other tables. Park is pretty clean and well kept for the most part. Good for kids who run around and play. Lots of family BBQing and flying kites - very cozy feeling. There's also a volleyball court area! The beach itself is right on the other side of the park and is very clean but cold! The whole beach park itself is a bit more chilly/breezy as we are located in Ventura County where the weather is just a bit cooler than LA/SD. Make sure you dress for both occasion so pack a sweater and maybe even a blanket. There are two parking lots but they seem to both charge a small fee. If you don't mind parking, I normally park in the residential area down a block or two and just walk. Would definitely return, and maybe I'll even bring my pup to play as it seems to be a dog-friendly park/beach! read more

This is a great beach/park. I appreciate that you can sit on grass and sit under the trees to get shade! Parking is not really an issue ever because they have a great big parking lot! If u come on the weekend you might see the kite man that flys 100 foot kites! They are so beautiful and amazing to relax and view! read more

Had no idea the beaches in Oxnard were so wide and long! The dunes are well cared for and the beaches are clean. I was there on a VERY windy day in late February, but loved it! A day or two from now, when the temps are in the 60s and it's sunny and not windy, I would imagine I'd be in love with this area....First time here and I really enjoyed it. read more

Went to this dog friendly beach for the first time and it was really nice and clean. Wasnt too crowded due to social distancing rules in place. Dogs on leash. Beware of the tar on the beach! Had to go home and scrub it off my feet. A bit of a pain, but overall a nice beach to walk my dog. Parked on the street with no problem. A short walk thru the park to get to the beach. read more

This is a VERY quiet beach. At least it was when I went there on a Friday afternoon. It's very clean, especially compared to LA beaches. Sand seem softer and smoother, and there seemed to be less washed ocean matters along the shore. There's a large play ground and grass field area for kids to run around. If you're looking for a nice beach day, this will definitely be it. It's probably more breezy and chillier, than say Santa Monica or Venice, so just remember to bring something warm. They have paid parking, but if you follow the street, pass the residential, pass Embassy Suites hotel, follow the curved road, there's free city parking on the right. read more

The park is perfect for enjoying activities in the park while having access to the beach as well. Oftentimes from my experience, we set up our party for the day in the grass and those who wish to walk over the beach have access to it all day. The people that want to eat can stay in the park area, grill, and enjoy their food without worrying about sand getting in it. The park is bigger than it looks, hosting plenty of large parties throughout the busy days of summer with no problems. In addition, they have a playground, volleyball nets, access to surrey and cruiser rentals nearby, and clearly marked trails to walk on. Highly recommended for a nice day out. read more

My kids (2 girls ages 9 and 7) call this the "Pirate Ship Playground". This playground has a lot of things that spin and non-functional things which seem kind of cool, but not over the top. The kids got bored with it in a matter of 30 minutes or less. With the amount of kids, this playground gets a lot of wear and there's plenty of visible corrosion which need to be corrected. There are 4 swings and a couple of slides which rate about a 3/10 on the excitement scale. The see-saw doesn't function well as a see-saw, it is more like a balance scale that you can't use your legs to push off the ground. Who the heck designed this playground? It is entirely floored with hard rubber matting which is unusual... where's the sand? Besides being incredibly boring, it is visually pleasing from far away. The parking is paid parking but if you can find street parking, that is free. This playground is next to the beach with a sidewalk that loops around a big sand dune. It is very scenic. The islands are visible in the distance and there's plenty of concrete benches to sit on. The beach is clean and when I went, there wasn't many people around, probably because it was cold and breezy outside. Overall, it is nice, but not great compared to other parks/beaches I've been to in Southern CA. I don't think I'll ever find myself wanting to come back to this park, it's more like a check off my list. read more

We've been coming hear yearly for over 5 years now and it still impresses me how beautiful and clean this park/beach combo is. Parking is $5 per car for the whole day. Anyone can bring a tent or canopy and have a picnic in the park and then walk to the beach after. Weather is just right but it gets cold late in the afternoon. I noticed they posted signs that the lot closes at dusk. The park is great, the dogs love coming to the beach. We park down the street so there are no worries of the lot closing. Great park to have a birthday party for kids. We call it Pirate Park, because all the play equipment mimics 2 pirate ships. One for little kids and a larger on for bigger kids. There are volleyball courts w/ sand, baseball area and large grass area for soccer too. The beach side has sand dunes with side walks that lead to the ocean with benches at the end. The whole park has a sidewalk that runs circular around it, which is great to walk or ride a bike around. You can keep going with your bike and explore Oxnard Shores beaches to the north or Hollywood Beach to the south. There are bathrooms at the park. Of course, Depending on respect by others how well they are kept clean. If getting a jumper for kids, you will need to get a permit from the city. Have fun! read more

My dogs and I love this beach. It has a big grassy area for them to run around in with a short walk over the dunes, you're at the beach! Great place to come and just relax, de-stress and enjoy a Southern CA day. We've seen dolphins frolicking off the coast and met many friendly dogs. Beautiful park with views and access to the beach. You have to pay to park but I didn't mind at all.($1 for an hour I paid in coins) I took my 5 month old and Little dog for a walk there and everyone we passed said good morning it was wonderful.
