Got a flat on the way to Manly, it sounded like we hit a police spike strip. After changing the tyre and parking we found ourselves at this establishment. The purveyor, upon seeing the oily hands stated "you are clearly not from around here," we gazed back dumbly waiting for the punchline... "no one changes their own tyres in Manly" followed by guffaws from us - True story.
And with that quick banter our relationship was established. I wanted something both hearty and light and the double skewer lamb souvlaki with tzatziki was a treat. My buddy had the same, but also had a couple of ice-cold Mythos, which he said were top notch. Both dishes came with loads of shoestring fries, aioli and salad.
The manager, a young guy whose parents had been running the space for a few years, was cordial and engaged in a chat with my mate about bikes... That convo went something like this:
"what bike ya got?"
"an n90 zxr, you?"
"maaaate sweeeeet that's with the 350 yeah? I've got a traily 180 with a fully suspended 29"
"wow cool, nah the 350 is on the wxz, this is a bored out 450 with twin zaustys"
"swweeeeet, any good trails around"
"mate on the weekends i ride the zxr around Dungog, we camp at Frying Pan creek overnight, and it's mad - my work bike is the bmw f 800 GT over there, it's a top roadie, no problems"
"ha! heard about those, doesn't it fang out on you?"
"the camber on right hand bends is a bit twitchy but other than that she's stuck to the road like a tongue to a frozen flagpole"
"sounds ace!, love to ride it sometime..."
I listened as this went on for some time, before I zoned out with the sea breeze and rolling waves from Manly Beach permeating my senses.
This little eatery is situated right next to the beach down the far end near the lifeguard building. Whilst the food isn't cheap it is good quality and the service is fast and friendly, so I would definitely come here again. A family, with authentic Greek heritage, runs the place, so the food is spot on and by the looks of it dinner there would be a great night out also - sea breeze, good eats and a range of Greek tipples. read more
