I stood at the terminal entrance and was faced with two options: a) Gloria Jeans or b) unnamed bakery / café across the way. Being the anti-corporation, "mum and pop" supporter that I am, that choice was a no brainer. I ordered a soy cappuccino and a chocolate macaroon. As I touched that coffee to my lips, I was thrilled with my decision. The coffee was remarkably made, had a perfect medium roast and silky smooth milk. The macaroon was a perfect combination of airy crunch followed by chewy finish. It was so delicious I probably could have thrown 4 or 5 of those little loves down the hatch and not looked back. Luckily, I cut it to the last minute and had to run straight past Laurent in order to catch my ferry home. Temporary fatness averted.

This place is great; very reasonably priced food and a great atmosphere inside the Manly wharf. I bought a chicken and avocado roll for $6, and it was amazing! Well presented, tasted good, and even though it was only a chicken roll, it made me feel upper class. You should see the deserts they have available! Little miatures cakes of various designs and flavours, they have had a lot of effort put into their production. I actually saw someone stop as they walked past, look at the cakes, and exclaim in excitement. Its not only a café, but also a bakery, so yu can pick up some pretty nice-looking loaves of bread on your way home. I guess the best part is the vibe. You don't spend heaps, but the open luxury of the café, with the sound of seagulls on the wharf... It's a cool place to stop for coffee. But having said that, it's not a restaurant, so don't plan a big event out of it, it's a simple café, inside a wharf.

Rollers Bakehouse - Perfect display of pastries

Shortly after riding the ferry over to Manly, we stopped by Rollers for pastries and coffee to…read morestart our morning. They close at 2:00P, so we wanted to get there early and choose from the full selection. I loved their display of baked goods which are all lined up neatly into perfect arrays. Racks of the pastries were right behind the counter, including both sweet and savory options. The employee manning the front was so warm and seemed happy to help answer our questions about the day's offerings. She said the most popular item all year round is their almond croissant, filled with an almond frangipane, but her personal favorite at the time was the seasonal Hazelnut Praline Brioche. Given that this is something you don't see at any ordinary bakery, I couldn't resist and you could say she talked me into it! My second choice would have been their handheld apple pie with its perfect lattice and caramelized sugar on top. The HAZELNUT PRALINE BRIOCHE (A$12) was essentially a light airy donut filled with a smooth chocolate hazelnut cream that tasted like a Ferrero Rocher. The amount of filling was generous and oozed out with every bite... I could have eaten spoonfuls of the filling just by itself! A slightly crunchy praline crumb topping gave it a crisp cap. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of this brioche as it wasn't too rich nor too sweet. I also got a flat white coffee which was good, hot and paired nicely with my brioche. My mom got their seasonal lemon monkey bread which she said was just okay. It didn't have that cinnamon gooeyness that one would normally expect in this type of dessert. Similarly, they also offered a lemon vanilla custard tart which my sister enjoyed. Oddly, it was labeled only as a "vanilla tart" on the display, which is a little misleading, especially for anyone who's not a fan of citrus. This cafe has a nice open air seating area with ample space, a couple seats at the coffee counter and some seats outside. Most of the tables were already occupied by the time we arrived, so we sat outside. With the cafe being located in an alleyway, we were able to savor our pastries in the morning sun without any cars or traffic whizzing by. What a lovely way to begin our day in Manly!

Rollers was designed nicely and has an outdoor/indoor patio is a minute from the beach at Manly. Now on to the food. The pastry I got, hash brown, chorizo and cheddar was a lot heftier and filling than I was expecting. I felt like there more chorizo and cheddar filling than hash brown so was a little depressed i didn't taste that. But all in all the croissant still tasted great. 5/5 stars

Their menu is considered modern Australian with an Italian flair, which is an interesting fusion of cuisines. They have tapas, entrees (appetizer size), mains (larger portions) and sides, which can be shared amongst the table or paired with a main to make for a more filling meal. + GRILLED TASMANIAN OCTOPUS (A$28): The four of us shared this and it turned out to be a tantalizing appetizer! Three meaty tentacles and one flat piece were served on top of n'duja (spreadable pork sausage) with pipes of lime confit on the side. This was my first time having n'duja, which had a smoky flavor from Calabrian chilis that paired well with the grilled taste of the tender octopus. The lime brightened up the dish with citrusy notes. + SEAWEED PRAWN PILLOWS (A$22): While tasty, if I tasted these blindly, I probably wouldn't think of shrimp and seaweed being the two main ingredients. The shrimp and seaweed were finely minced and made into a batter which was then fried into a fritter. They were crispy and light with a soft mochi-like texture inside. Salt on the plate enhanced the flavor even more. + SNAPPER FILLET (A$44): The snapper was delicate, moist and had a wonderfully seared skin. It came topped with a few zucchini blossoms, but that was the extent of the dish, so I'd recommend ordering a side with this. It was placed on a pool of creamy white sauce (which may have incorporated Jerusalem artichoke as noted on the menu) and dollops of black garlic sauce came on top. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the black garlic which had a very earthy flavor that I found too strong and off-putting for the mild fish. The four of us shared a side of BROCCOLINI (A$14) which was a great pairing with all of our mains. It tasted super fresh since the stems still had a nice snap to them. They were simply tossed with extra virgin olive oil, sliced almonds and chili for a hint of heat. My dad enjoyed their spatchcocked chicken and my sister was happy with her sirloin steak. The steak was cooked more than the medium that she requested, but it was still delicious and had a zesty salsa verde. Overall, we had a lovely lunch here. Our meals were wholesome and I could tell that everything was fresh and of pristine quality. This restaurant is right on the beach, so we enjoyed a direct view of the water, giving this spot a beachy vibe with casual elegance.
