Great views of Manly Beach while dining inside our outside. The barramundi platter was outstanding!!! The grilled fish was moist, flavorful and flaky. Would give 3.5 stars if possible but can't quite give 4 based on first visit. Came here after a 3 & a half mile walkabout with a friend who had been here before. She knew they had a fish & chip and beer special for 28 Australian dollars ($17 usd). We were lucky to score an outside table that hadn't been cleared yet but was quickly cleared when we asked. My friend and I both got the fish & chip special with pale ales. The salad served with the fish was very good. The fish while hot and well cooked could have been a bigger portion. Ample amount of fries with an average tasting tartar sauce. No ketchup offered and no check back from the waitress to ask if we needed anything else. Sitting outside on a nice day right across from the beach is lovely. Car traffic can be a little busy/loud. Watch out for seagulls who would snatch a fry off your plate if you're not alert. read more

We were visiting manly beach for the day and decided to get some lunch in town. We had other recommendations but they were closing around 2 PM. We opted to try this location, which is right off the beach. There's both inside and outside dining. We opted to have fish and chips as well as the grilled barramundi fish sandwich. We also ordered a Coke and hot, long black coffee. The fish and chips arrived, and they look like small thin pieces of battered fish on top of chips. The grilled fish sandwich was on a soft bun with tartar sauce, pickle, lettuce, and tomato. Overall the meal was OK. The fish and chips seem like a big large baton of crispy batter. The grilled fish sandwich was pretty good and ample and size. Service was pretty good overall although both servers were busy. If you're looking for an ocean view restaurant with pretty much something for everyone, this is probably it. I'm sure there are other restaurants. You could try in the area that are less touristy. To say the least, I did not enjoy my experience at Blue Water Cafe, Bar & Restaurant. I walked into the restaurant with particularly high spirits, eager to enjoy the local Manly cuisine. With enthusiasm, I ordered the lobster and smoked salmon carbonara. At a table of 28, my food arrived dead last. Due to this extended wait time, where others had finished their meals before mine arrived, I had particularly high expectations. To my dismay, my hopes couldn't have been let down to a greater extent. I was expecting a slab of smoked salmon on top of the pasta, and received likely frozen salmon mixed in with the dish, impressively curating a distinctively fishy taste. Furthermore, the lobster appears to have been a month out of the water, or perhaps, not a lobster at all. I'd recommend against this restaurant. If you come, do not order this dish. For New Year Day, we wanted to treat ourselves while our time in Sydney. While walking around the beach, we saw the Bluewater Cafe. The menu featured the vegetarian plate. Being a vegetarian, we said, ok. After a 1/2 hour wait, we finally got our plates. I felt a bit disappointed as the the food looked at a minimum. I expected a little bit more for the price we paid which was $25.00. The food tasted ok. Nothing really special. The meal comes with 2 poached eggs, 2 thick toasts, handful of cremini mushrooms, a half sliced avocado, and sliced tomatoes. From an artistic viewpoint, the chef prepared the meal with so much negative space on the plate. The white space that dominated the presentation. It looked like the chef prepared the meal by spacing the food out. The Bluewater Cafe attracts the local crowds. People casually bring in their pets. Someone brought in a blue cat named Claude. If given another chance, I don't think I will come back here for dining. Once will be enough for me. Make a note: The menu states there will be a surcharge of 10% during holidays. read more

Just landed from SFO and checked into The Manly Pacific. Our room was not ready, so we walked the beach which was amazing and then fell into Blue Water Cafe. Amazing coffee and we shared the Breakfast Bruschetta which was huge and terrific! loaded w ham and bacon, terrific veggies, perfectly cooked eggs and a drizzle of balsamic. Other items we saw, but did not try, that looked terrific were: Benedict's, wraps and a fruit w yogurt bowl. Would have tried them all if we were a bigger group, but looking forward to going back!! I should have started w this, we sat outside and the view was epic. The only down was that they got busy and we didn't get the second cups of coffee we wanted. My go-to whenever I'm with my doggo. The nice people at Bluewater always brings out doggy bowls filled with fresh water! Oh, and the food's great here too. Bluewater cafè, aptly named as it is located on the foreshore of Manly beach. A great spot for a nice sunny day. Perfect if you are looking for some cheap cocktails to quench your thirst after a day at the beach. The restaurant has a relaxed setting for a casual dining experience by the water. Grab a seat and relax to the sound of the breaking waves across the road. All cocktails are $12.90 and they have a daily happy hour from 3pm til 6pm dropping cocktails to $10 and beers and wines for $5. You can also accompany this with $5 chicken wings or fries. There are also non-alcoholic beverages including fresh juice, coffee, milkshakes smoothies and softdrinks. The dining menu is varied with something for everyone. There are a range of tasty starters, including a tasting menu but in this instance, we opted for oysters. The staff accomodated our request for a serving: half natural and the other half kilpatrick. Being by by the ocean we were in the mood for seafood. The crab burger grabbed our attention, stacked with softshell crab crab with slaw, and aioli. For a healthy option the macadamia crusted barramundi is a classic modern Australian dish well suited to such an iconic tourist destination. Served with beetroot, avocado and a mango sauce. The paper it is served on containing on Australiana , including info on ANZAC day, the harbour bridge and there are also some dad jokes for a laugh. As with all cafes on Manly beachfront this place is average and overrated because of its location. The food is acceptable but nothing out of the ordinary. It is generally pricier than other Manly cafes and comes off a little snooty. The wait staff are generally fine. On the weekend this place is usually full of Manly visitors rather than locals and there can be a longish wait for a seat, food or the bill. read more

My husband and I had a lovely late breakfast staring at the water. As others have mentioned, it is slightly pricey and the food is average. We stopped here because it seemed like a popular place and we wanted to eat on the water. The waiter was friendly and even went to the trouble of fixing our table when it was wobbly, which was greatly appreciated. I ordered a mushroom, tomato and proscuitto omelette with a side of bacon, while my husband ordered the salmon scrambled eggs. The salmon eggs were fine. The bacon was good, but I felt that there was a bit too much proscuitto in omelette and that the saltiness overwhelmed it. Located across the road from one of Sydney's famous beaches, Blue Water has always served up big rustic hearty meals such as their legendary all day breakfasts. Plates are piled with bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and wood fired toasts. Lunch time offers beer battered fish and chips. Dinner is universal with big protein meat dishes that should be complete with Blue Waters crème brulee. The only thing that can be inconsistent sometimes is the coffee but that's not anything to go by. When based overseas Blue Water would be one of my stops to remind me why home was so good and why I missed it so much. I would sit outside with my big breakfasts, pick away at each ingredient taking in the glistening Pacific Ocean, the Norfolk Pines, outdoor active people and parents running with children in three wheelers. Ironically we are here this morning to bid farewell to a girlfriend who is off to Ireland with her family fore few years. Directly opposite the world-famous surfing break, The Blue Water Cafe is decorated appropriately - the fittings are all blonde wood, the pictures on the walls celebrating Manly and the crowd decidedly beachy. As are most businesses on this prominent strip, the Blue Water Cafe is usually absolutely packed when the sun shines. One sunny Thursday lunchtime in Manly proves to be no exception to this, but the waitress leads us straight to a table just inside where we wait for our menus.. and wait... and wait. And eventually need to get up and ask for them - especially inconvenient given that my friend has her baby with her. The menu is covered in amazing-sounding meals, with us struggling to decide between the pumpkin and feta wraps and the corn fritters with salmon. Both eventually deciding to go for the wraps, we wait... and wait... and wait a good fifteen minutes before we get the waiters attention to order. When he comes he is professional, apologetic and helpful - management just needs five more like him on the floor! The food also takes quite some time, but when it arrives is perfect - great portion sizes, excellent chips on the side and a vege-filled grilled wrap... yummy!
