I'm going to give' Ripples' the benefit of the doubt because I ordered an entrée and expected that it might suffice as a 'light lunch'. I was wrong. When they said tarlet, the emphasis was truly on the 'let' but at $21 I wanted more tart than was literally advertised. It was very tasty but like the last canapé on the tray, it left me wanting. Much is made of this award winning restaurant but if you took away the spectacular view, you've got a functional outdoor dining experience much like a wedding marque but without the atmosphere. The view was the best part of this experience and I could have had that for free.

For those who can't afford a meal at the upscale Aqua Dining, Ripples (managed by the same owners) is a more accessible option that still boasts the very same sweeping harbour views. A visit a while ago served up a disappointing squid salad for lunch - all salty dressing and barely any leaves - but a later return trip changed my mind with a perfectly pink-on-the-inside grilled ocean trout. When things get rainy or a bit too breezy, the staff roll down the plastic windbreakers fixed to the edge of the awning, which can quickly make the space stuffy when it's still hot outside. Nonetheless, it's a great place to kick back with some vino and enjoy the weather and views that Sydney has to offer. The modern Australian diner is packed throughout the day for breakfast through to dinner, so make sure you arrive early with queues in mind if you haven't already made a booking.

I flew from NYC to Sydney for my childhood best friend's wedding and this was where her Bridal Shower brunch was being held. This was my first meal off the plane as I came directly from the airport. Maybe it was just me but the service felt lacking. I was definitely dehydrated from the flight but it was also a sticky hot day. We had a big group of girls and had two long tables under the tent in their outdoor seating area. It was a gorgeous day but for some reason the flaps of the tent were kept down as if they were expecting a hurricane which in effect turned the tent into a greenhouse. I could not get enough water. I asked for a cup of ice figuring it would melt quickly given the stifling heat but our server never returned with it even though I asked a couple of time. Given that we were a large group it would have been easier on us and also easier on the waitstaff if they had just left us jugs of water to help ourselves. The view is stunning and I think the food was good but my memory of nearly dying of dehydration unfortunately overshadows my memory of the food...

My friends took me here on my last day in Sydney, and it was the perfect farewell brunch!…read more There was a festive menu at the time that we dined, and it was great! 3 courses for $40AUD (or 2 courses for $35AUD), you know I had to get the 3 courses! For Starters, I got the Ora King Smoked Salmon Pate. For my Mains, I got Primavera Ravioli. For dessert, I got the Jamie's Black Forest Panna Cotta. Everything was soooo good! The ambiance was chic & cute, and the server was great! I honestly felt like I was back in the US for some reason!

My second and most recent visit helped extinguish that memory. Our waitress was very lively and sweet. She gave us plenty of time to look over our menus and made solid recommendations. I ordered the Spaghetti Alla Norma and it was pretty tasty. I also sampled some of the polenta chips which were surprisingly good. We opted to get dessert elsewhere but overall the food was pretty good. I'd like this place more if the prices were a little lower and they had more basic pastas available. I'm not a fan of seafood or mushrooms and can't handle spicy so I felt a little limited...although the pumpkin ravioli was tempting. Next time!

Fratelli Parlamento…read more What's available? Antipasto. Pasta. Pizza. Salads. Wine. Wine. Wine. Desserts. No specials. Great CBD location. On Macquarie Street next door to the Land & Environment Court and across the road from the NSW Parliament. When you get to the Macquarie Street entrance walk down the stairs. You will be greeted by a friendly maître d and a similar layout to its Italian brother on Bridge Street. There is a bar and restaurant (Café Sopra) which offers delicious meals made with fresh ingredients. No fresh produce available at this Fratelli's. The restaurant was buzzing with suits. Which was to be expected due to its central business location! Loved the green chesterfield style seating and dim lighting. The service was great with our waiter being very attentive even with the a full restaurant. Could not fault our visit. Will be coming back here again and again.

To start we got the zucchini fritters, burrata, and the cold meats plate. All very tasty. Then for mains i got the pork sausage pizza - i thought it was ok, hardly much pork on the pizza. I got to sample a few other pastas such as the lamb raguy and the polenta with mushrooms and gorgonzola - the polenta was very good! Lots of sauce and went really well with the polenta. For wine we tried the fratelli fresh pino grigio and it had more of a sharp after taste. Overall, I thought the food was good, I enjoyed all the entree's and the other mains except mine.
