5 oz steak with veggies. Lunch special $13.99. Cooked perfectly
    Rick L.

Good lunch specials until 4pm. Small (5 oz) steak w/ veggies of the day $13.99 was cooked perfectly. Queensland Pasta (fettuccine Alfredo) with chicken was creamy and very good. The chicken was a little spicy but good. Bloomin' Onion wasn't that great. Salty and slightly burnt tasting. Service in the bar area was friendly. We were pleasantly surprised

There is a reason why Texas Roadhouse has every seat filled and this place is dead. Slow service even though they are slow, overcooked steak. I could just sense the vibe right when I walked. RIP Outback. You're just living off the name.

Supposed to be medium rare... which it is not
    Kendra M.

Order a medium rare steak. This is not it. Also a side of steamed veggies should be more than 3 pieces of broccoli and 2 pieces of carrot

We started our evening at Sear Steakhouse with some excellent drinks. The thyme mocktail was crisp…read moreand refreshing, and my husband's old-fashioned was fragrant and well-balanced, complete with a perfect bada bing cherry. His only note was a preference for a single large ice cube rather than crushed, but overall the bar clearly knows what it's doing. The appetizers set a great tone. Warm sourdough was fresh and comforting. I enjoyed the bright, crisp house salad, while my husband's pumpkin soup was silky, savory, and perfectly seasonal. We both ordered the 7-ounce filet mignon, and the kitchen truly delivered! His medium-rare was tender and juicy with a beautiful sear, and my medium-well was still succulent--proof of precise cooking. They have an outstanding variety of cool, reasonably priced side dishes. My husband was excited about the Queen's honey carrots which were tender and flavorful (though the honey glaze was very subtle) and the creamy mashed potatoes that are part of the steak dish, were nicely executed. I didn't realize my filet came with mashed potatoes underneath, so I ordered a loaded, baked potato as my side, and ended up with extra potato (which I'm not complaining about whatsoever lol). We also enjoyed the whiskey cream sauce with mushrooms, which added a gentle smoky creamy richness, and the onion soubise, which was pure sweet comfort. Dessert was a highlight, as we celebrated my husband's birthday - we ordered all three featured desserts: The crème brûlée had a perfectly crackled top and smooth vanilla bean custard, the flourless chocolate dessert was deeply rich with espresso notes, and the butter cake was the total star - warm, moist, and decadently buttery. Each dessert was excellent in its own way, but that perfectly sinful butter cake stole the show! The atmosphere was inviting--warm wood tones, comfortable booths, well-balanced lighting, and enough TVs near the bar to keep my sports fan husband happy. Service was friendly and pleasant, though we found ourselves wishing for a bit more attentiveness. With a very quiet dining room, very early in the evening (we had a 4 PM reservation), there were moments when water refills lagged and opportunities for wine suggestions went unoffered (and we were definitely wanting to order some red with our steaks, but gave up because by the time there was an opportunity, we were finished with our steaks). We also briefly looked into the small private dining room on our way through the bar, and while we were greeted politely by one of the employees who was sitting in there, it felt like they missed the perfect opportunity to highlight the space for potential events. That said, nothing detracted significantly from the experience--it was simply a matter of polish. A touch more proactive engagement could elevate an already strong offering into something exceptional. Overall, Sear Steakhouse delivered an enjoyable and memorable evening. The food, drinks, and desserts are clearly strengths, and with just a little added focus on service flow and guest engagement, this restaurant has all the makings of a true standout in Rapid City. We look forward to returning and trying new things!

I'm really torn on this review because I've only been to Sear Steakhouse twice, and the experiences…read morewere completely different. The first visit was for a work event in the back room (not sure if that made a difference), and it was outstanding. The food was cooked to perfection--my steak literally melted in my mouth, and the sides were hot and delicious. I couldn't stop raving about it afterward. The second visit, after talking it up to my family, was a letdown. They were busy, and maybe that played a role, but it just wasn't the same. My steak was mediocre, and my husband was genuinely confused why I had claimed it was one of the best steaks I'd had in a long time. Unfortunately, when it comes to restaurants, the bad tends to outweigh the good. We haven't been back, and I can't justify the price tag when there are other great steak options in town. I know places can have off days, and maybe that's what happened--but I'm not willing to return to find out.

Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've had. The evening started with a confusing interaction with the hostess, who walked away from us and then acted as though she had already told us to follow her. Our server, Sig, made things worse. We were a party of six, including our family friend's mother, who has ALS, and his attitude was abrasive, argumentative, and anything but welcoming. When my wife ordered the roasted chicken, he responded, "You ordered the worst thing on the menu." That's simply not how guests should be treated. I ordered the $72 Tatanka Filet, medium, but it arrived well done. When I pointed it out, the explanation I received was that "toward the end of the night the grill is hot." At that price, I expected an apology and an offer to correct it, not an excuse. Even at the end of the meal, the service remained poor. When we asked for to-go boxes, Sig reached across the table and passed them directly in front of our faces instead of handing them to us courteously. Everyone can have an off night, but what disappointed us most was that no one acknowledged the issues or attempted to make things right. For a restaurant with Dakota Steakhouse's reputation and prices, we expected excellent hospitality. Instead, we left feeling unwelcome and disappointed. Unfortunately, we would not return or recommend it based on this experience.

This is hearing damage level, folks! Service was awful. I ordered a margarita rocks, NO SALT. She brought it WITH salt. When I (finally) flagged her down she acted irked and argued that I ordered WITH salt. (Ummm no - but I will give her benefit of doubt because maybe she didn't hear me because it was so loud) They use germ laden self-pay ziosks because hey! Tip minimum of 20% for poor service quality and naturally we were charged for food we didn't order - two people and a $180 bill? No way. I ordered a $15.99 meal and so did my dinner companion and we each had just one drink and no extras. Once again, it took time to get any server to notice and resolve issue - no apology, just annoyance. I think they're annoyed because it's a SCAM and if you pay more without catching the error they get a bigger tip- funny they brought us the right meals then tried to charge us for Dallas ribeye and a large filet dinner and multiple drinks IN ADDITION to my $15.99 sirloin meal and his single pork chop meals. And you charge extra for butter for a sweet potato - talk about nickel and diming dining. Ugh! The FOOD was good and that is the only reason this review gets 2 stars instead of one. My medium rare sirloin steak was perfect - better than you should expect from a chain steakhouse - and my dinner companion liked his chop. Sides and side salads were generous and fresh. Still, I likely won't be back without noise cancelling earbuds and more patience though. I remain incensed with ziosks in general but even more so when I feel intentionally SCAMMED. (In this case, I think the manager should have apologized instead of continuing to chat up the hostess at the hostess stand, but hey! That's me. I'm just the customer after all... Be forewarned - they will probably be rude and overcharge you because I think it's SOP. Check your bill before you do part of their service job and pay by ziosk.

I suggest having reservations, because we called the day before and they were booked for the next two days. Thankfully, they slid us in on a cancellation. There is love here. Our server, Lucy, was super attentive and lovely. She definitely went the extra mile. The chef, Matt, was cooking for the entire restaurant with the aid of only one sous chef and the place was packed. Still, our food came out in a timely manner and it was all cooked to perfection. Quite a feat, given there were people at literally every table. It's not quaint in capacity, either. I was so impressed. As for the food- everything was phenomenal. We ordered a bottle of the Bordeaux, the charcuterie, the beet salad, the petite filet, the mushroom ragu, the creme brûlée and the home made peanut butter ice cream. It was a lot but as we are serious food lovers and I love to cook, we wanted to try it all. Although the menu itself wasn't visionary (not sure there is room for that in SD) the execution was. The filet melted like butter but had an extraordinary crust. Perfectly seasoned. I ate every bite. The creme brûlée is my go to dish- it's so simple but you can tell a lot from how it's executed. The custard was phenomenal and the crust was the perfect thickness, shattered just the right way with q wack of the spoon. The house made peanut butter ice cream... jeez. My husband ordered it. Not something I would have chosen but good lord, I ate the whole thing. I was in pain, but it was some of the best ice cream I've ever had in my life. People on Yelp complaining about seating or pricing are out of touch. This is a very small crew running the restaurant. The chef is an artist and he is killing it. (He is even the one who returned my reservation phone call!) You read the list of what we ordered- it was an insane amount of food PLUS a bottle of old world wine- and if I hadn't tipped so so exuberantly we would have been out of there for under 200 bucks. WE DONT DESERVE YOU, JUNIPER! We are thankful for such an amazing, elevated, romantic date night. Honestly worth going to Rapid City for. Please do yourself a favor, check it out and tip them well.
