The good: we were seated promptly, the Caesar side salad was pretty good The bad: pretty much everything else We ordered a blooming onion, Out backer burger with a side salad, loaded baked potato and a boomarita. The blooming onion never came out and our waiter didn't even notice despite coming back a couple of times to ask if we wanted bread or anything. The burger came out rare despite asking for it to be cooked medium, but was edible otherwise. The "loaded" baked potato had barely anything in it. Maybe a spoon full of sour cream, a sprinkle of bacon and nothing else. Now for the margaritas: yuck. The normal marg was ok, but the rest were sickly sweet and the flavors were filled with cheap corn syrup heavy globs that sank to the bottom of the glass. Very unpleasant to drink. Overall, disappointed. This was our first time eating here and with the other, better and cheaper options in the area we won't be coming back. read more

Had a couple kids looking for a treat tonight and decided on a whim to try outback for desserts. Place was humming and bustling on a busy Saturday evening, but we were seated quickly and greeted with a friendly smile both at the host stand and also by our wonderful server, Bryce. Bryce was wonderful and spoke to my children with respect and humor. He went over the dessert menu with us and he had barely just walked away from the table and 3 milks showed up. I was shocked. He did use a tablet while we ordered. With small kids, timing is everything, so this was awesome to me. The kids colored their cool little menus and we played tic tac toe while we waited. The manager Amanda came by and said hello and spoke with the kids. Once the desserts came out, (as if i didn't already), i knew i had come to the right place. Wow! Huge huge huge huge!. The 6 layer chocolate cake was almost as tall as my 4 year old. LOL The butter cake with strawberries was my favorite though. I'm so glad i tried that. Anyways. We really enjoyed our short time there and have decided we will def be back very soon. Thanks to everyone who made my kids night extra special. Absolutely horrible! We were sitting for almost 25 minutes before a server ever came and only then because we asked for one. Drinks, appetizers and bread (all at the same time) 20 minutes after we ordered. No plates brought for shared appetizers or bread. Got the manager involved after waiting another 20 minutes or so for drink refills and salad. Server nowhere got be found. When our server finally turned up I let him know how disappointed we were with everything and he told me he didn't know what I expected him to do about it! Got the manager again and we were given a new server. When we finally got our meal my husband's steak did not have onions as requested so then had to wait for that. We had 3 children under 12 with us and because of the ridiculously slow service we were there for 2 1/2 hours! The manager cut the bill in half but that's not the point. We would much rather pay to have a nice meal with great service. All and all the food was fine but the service was deplorable. We will never go back. We usually order their lunch special to go, which has been pretty consistent. So we went in for a late lunch on the weekend, and the food was kind of disappointing. The bloomin' onion was alright, saltier and greasier than I remembered but still OK. The lobster and steak pasta was not good, the lobster meat hard to chew and small, steak over cooked as well, and everything had so much salt they tasted bitter. The best item was the sweet potato. It was over $100 for the 2 of us with tips (1 appetizer, 2 entree, 2 iced tea), and the experience did not match the price. read more

During my recent Staycation - I opted to visit the new Outback in Gainesville, VA for the first time. It's in the physical space previously occupied by a Chili's Restaurant. I visited for dinner and sat at the bar. I ordered the 12 oz Ribeye (cooked medium), with a side of Shrimp on the Barbie (3 shrimp), with a side of sautéed mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and steamed vegetables - which consisted of Broccoli, Carrots, and Yellow Squash. Everything was tasty. I couldn't finish the steak, so took the remainder to go. For dessert, I had a dirty vodka martini - with 3 Blue Cheese stuffed olives. The Blue Cheese stuffed olives are not a regular bar menu offering - but the bartender - I believe her name was Britney, was willing to take the time to hand stuff them. Good food and good service. A pleasant dinner yesterday. I will say it seems Outback's are trying to make a comeback. For awhile they were abysmal. I will go back here again, as Manassas has a Logan's, but that's atrocious. This one works for a decent steak. My sirloin ordered at medium rare was, and I thought it was a nice cut. All of the vegetables were flavorful, with a good cold one. Service was very good. The server was prompt, polite, and had excellent comprehension of the menu. That can be very helpful. As for the seats I'm tall, and felt the support level was so so. Most average individuals should be fine, and to be fair I'm recovering from another back injury. The restaurant was very clean. That is an attribute I look for, and it wasn't slammed for a Saturday night. I'll give it a more extensive review, when I do visit it again, but this seems a pleasant location. read more

My family and I recently ate here this past weekend. The service was good, but the food wasn't. I had ordered the new Sirloin & Hot Honey Fried Chicken. But when my order came out I had recieved a chicken tenderloin instead of a chicken breast. So I sent it back and when it came back again it was just a grilled chicken breast. So I sent that back a 3rd time and finally I got the Hot Honey Fried Chicken, this time was the chicken breast. But by the time I had gotten the correct item, I was full, so I had to box it up to take it home. When I came around to eating it the next day I found out that the chicken was the thinnest slice of chicken you could eat. The whole chicken was all breading. The description of item (Our chicken is hand-battered in our Bloomin' Onion® spices, fried until golden brown, drizzled with our house-made hot honey and spicy signature bloom sauce, topped with Fresno chilies), you'd think the chicken breast would be thicker then what I recieved. As the grilled chicken breast was 3 times thicker. For spending over $200 on dinner with my wife, 2 teenagers and 2 toddler's, I was not very happy the next day when I ate the piece of chicken. read more

This location recently opened and seeing all the bad reviews, I almost didn't give it a chance. Everyone's experience will differ and depending on the staff and time of day, I'm sure there will be good ones and bad ones. I made an order online for curbside pickup around dinner time. The parking lot was packed so I assume they were pretty busy with both curbside orders and dining in. My order unfortunately didn't come out until 35 minutes past the pickup time, so reviews are accurate about that. my guess is their online time estimator doesn't account for dine-in orders that need to be made in the same kitchen. The food was overall pretty delicious! I had an 8oz sirloin with baked potato and Caesar salad. my wife had the combo with shrimp and same sides. The steaks were actually done perfectly. mine was medium and my wife's was medium rare. this wa surprising as I'm used to steaks being a little too done or too under-done, but they were perfect. the seasoning was spot on, only complaint is that they were dry and not juicy. Tons of lettuce and enough dressing with the salad. I feel like the salad portion is way bigger than what you normally get on a plate. Baked potato was a good size too. The toppings came in a seperate container. We also got the free serving of bread. nice and soft. didn't give us much butter though. lastly we also got the blooming onion appetizer. same delicious taste and plenty of sauce, but unfortunately it was not crunchy. it got soft due to the condensation in the container, but I'm not sure that can be helped for to-go. overall a good dinner! very fulfilling and tasty. read more

What I did take issue with is the fact that the burger was wildly undercooked. Yes, we asked for well done and that would've been a minor inconvenience if it were a little juicier, but this was cold and red in center. I have never had a medium rare steak this bad before. It was not medium rare. It was charred on the edges and the center was brown. It was so dry that I had a hard time swallowing the bites and had to wash them down. The steamed broccoli that came with it was mushy and some of it actually looked like it was over ripened because you could see that it was yellow instead of green and that was where it was muskies. I just could not eat it. I have eaten at other Outbacks before and it was never this bad. I will never order from the location in Gainesville again. read more

The service was incredibly slow, the food was mediocre, and the cleanliness of the restaurant left something to be desired. An incredibly long delay in server response time. I think they should limit capacity of the restaurant, in order to give the servers a chance to handle the number of patrons. Final comment. You would think the Bloomin' onion would be a menu item they would have down pat by now. Unfortunately it tasted like they dipped the entire onion in batter fried it and gave it to us. I commented to my husband that the floor seemed very slippery and he agreed with me, which I've never noticed in an Outback. I mentioned it to the hosting staff on our way out and the young lady said yeah it is and tried to be apologetic about it, but the salty guy behind her gave me the nastiest look I've ever gotten from a restaurant employee. You might want to have him check that attitude because it was incredibly unprofessional. Came for the first time to this location to celebrate my husband's birthday. The server was so friendly and great. All was good until the meals came out, the steaks were COLD. At this point it's a disappointment when food is not the proper temperature. Manager came by and took it back to reheat, but it wasn't a huge improvement because the steaks were warm but sides were cold! I'm not sure I'll be dining here any time soon. Once upon a time in a land far, far away, Outback used to be good food and a good experience. Every location is different but the Gainesville location was a universal disappointment. Slow to be seated; gloomy interior; unclean table and booth, and a pervasive underlying "stench" of poor cleaning. Our waitress was very nice, but not skilled. Drinks were slow and incorrect, follow up attention and corrections were slow, and the food quality was poor - poor quality and cooking. We both left our meals only half finished. A better-trained server would have caught that as a red flag and asked a question or two. We got nothing, and it wasn't worth the effort to voice our dissatisfaction. There are plenty of other chain restaurants serving average food to choose from. Never again here, and maybe never again at an Outback. read more

We often go to Outback for consistency as we travel. Since we're dine rewards members, we also like to eat at Outback locally. Tonight, we visited Outback in Gainsville and it definitely exceeded our expectations. We were jointly served by Hannah K ( the experienced wait person) and Troy, in training. Both were efficient, professional, attentive remembering our orders, getting drinks at the right pace, everything one could expect. I was particularly impressed with Troy, as a trainee he was on point and offered and excellent representation of the company. I don't want this to overshadow Hannah, as she provided impressive service and worked seamlessly backing up and guiding Troy. Kudos to both and thanks to them for a wonderful experience. To the food-- cooked to our specification, as described in the menu and excellent. The consistency that we like and appreciate was there and the food was ready and delivered promptly, hot and with an excellent taste. These were the two worst looking "filets" either of us had ever seen. It appeared to be sirloin, and not GOOD sirloin either. My wife and I both ordered them and our mouths dropped open when we saw them. Neither was cooked correctly, and they WEREN'T filets. She worked at numerous steak restaurants in her youth, and my uncle owned restaurants. Frankly, I would've expected a comparable steak from either Sizzler or iHop. Not worth the price by any stretch.
