This outback establishment was nice and neat. Employees and manager where super friendly too us and made sure our food was good. Very good service and at a fair price. Recommend them!

Went here on a Sunday ("open until 9") after the place a few doors down (Twigs) semi-rudely told us they could not seat us because it was too late ("open until 9:30"). Outback pleasantly seated us at 8:48 with no hesitation and no attitude. Our waitress was just as friendly and happy and did not make us feel rushed in the least. The meals were great (including the appetizer). We did our best to move along as quickly as we could, though that was our choice.... Again no one was rushing us. We let the staff that we came into contact with know how much we appreciated their kindness. I would HIGHLY recommend this Outback location!

    Filet looks like overdone burger

Another bad experience and the last. I ordered the Victoria Filet cooked medium and my mother got the same. Both came out rare, but mine was raw meat and bloody. The waitress said she would have them throw it back on. It came back still bloody in the middle. The manager said he would get another one going for me. My first steak was at least 2 inches thick about 5 inches long and 3 inches wide. As you can see by the pictures this was my disappointing replacement Filet. More like an over done hamburger. This is not a $24 steak!! You would think you could go to a steakhouse and think they had a chef or two in the back that really knew how to cook steaks. Never going back!

Their cocktails are crafted with homemade syrups, and change seasonally. I had the Garden in Tibet--a delicious drink with gin, Prosecco, sugar snap pea syrup (!), green elixir syrup, elderflower liquor, and lemon. You'd think this could be a too-sweet drink, but it was PERFECT. My husband had the Which Damascus? with rye whiskey, cherry basil syrup, hickory syrup, Amaro Montenegro, Tiki bitters, Peychaud bitters, and orange. He enjoyed it, but I thought it was definitely too sweet. We love their unique smoked trout deviled eggs as an appetizer. This dish has two eggs filled with smoked trout, and three filled with a deviled egg mixture. The accompanying house hot sauce is so good! For our entrees, we both had hickory-smoked trout. Mine was definitely saltier than his. We had three sides--collard greens, smoked Gouda grits (our favorite), and corn, hominy, yellow squash & chile hash (so fresh and delicious!). Service is always good at Speckled Trout, and I love that we can pay with ApplePay at the table via the Toast handheld. Despite the salty trout, we can't wait to return.

Hard bread smeared with some cream cheese and topped with 2 whole red grapes. Scalloped potatoes cooked to mush, canned yams with some marshmallows melted on top, green bean something from cans, "creamed" spinach that was thawed frozen chopped spinach with breadcrumbs on top-- nothing "creamed" about it. Half the buffet was hours-old leftover breakfast items like rubbery scrambled eggs, dry grits, and -- the worst-- alarmingly undercooked quiche served refrigetator-cold. Thought of the quiche still makes me a little queasy. Dessert station was weirdly dominated by no fewer than five whole buttermilk pies -- the only pie offered. SHAME ON CHETOLA for even offering this, and at upwards of $100 per person. My fault for not checking recent reviews but it is hard to see how anything could go downhill as far as Timblerlake's has. Ugh. Just terrible.

Honestly, the only reason I'm not giving it a single star is because our server was generally somewhat attentive... but other than that? The visit felt disorganized, the food wasn't even remotely special, and the ambiance just missed the mark. When we arrived, I noted with the hostess (1 of 3 - even though the restaurant was probably 3/4 empty) that we had a reservation... and even then, even with soooooooooo many empty tables, it took probably 15 minutes for us to get seated. Is there a staffing issue? Hard to know. There did appear to be multiple servers tending tables though. I honestly have no idea what the issue was. Either way, of all the tables in the place, we got seated next to a larger room that had one of the only groups in the entire restaurant... and they managed to be so unexpectedly loud that it really ruined whatever sense of a charming experience we may have been able to have. We each ordered various items from the menu... but the "beast burger" that I ordered as part of my meal was really underwhelming. Also, proportions of the ingredients just seemed WAY off. It was called a "beast" burger because of the mixture of elk, beef, bison, and wild boar included... instead, it seemed like a beast because the slice of tomato on it was cut so thick that I felt like I was going to have to unhinge my jaw like a snake or something just so that I could take a bite. Why do restaurants make such TALL burgers? They feel impossible to eat... I don't get it. For my side on that dish, I had ordered the truffle mushroom risotto... and honestly? I didn't even get a slight hint of truffle... and it's hard to miss truffle when it's there! The risotto itself was also extremely gummy... almost like the consistency of paste. Just... no. TL;DR Just really disappointed in the overall experience here. Everything from being seated to quality of the food to ambiance? It all missed the mark. I wouldn't be able to recommend this place to anyone... there have got to be better options in and around Blowing Rock.

The mozzarella sticks had very little cheese. Two of our steaks were undercooked. One was ordered well and was given rare. The other was ordered medium and was given rare. They did fix them after requested. The steak did not have enough seasoning. About 5 or 6 different servers kept coming to our table every few minutes asking if we needed anything or if they could refill our water. The disruption of conversations from being constantly asked negatively affected our experience. While I understand our reservation was later in the night and that this could have been the reason for this poor experience, I had higher expectations for this steakhouse. Sadly, this was an enough to deter me from coming back. Every server was pleasant though.

He followed those instructions and ended the night saying "that's the best steak I've had in a restaurant". Between the excellent service and food, this was one of the best anniversary meals I've had at a restaurant. We were told to make reservations, and fortunately with the local college in summer session, we were able to select our ideal time slot. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated in their area with a rounded glass wall/ceiling that allowed for a beautiful view of Boone. The restaurant has a warm interior with a mix of wood booths or tables. The rolls they serve at the table reminiscent of the Sister Schubert's yeast rolls, and I was not mad about that. We split the 12 ounce ribeye, and got a side of their French onion soup. It came out with a nicely bubbled and browned layer of cheese covering a piece of bread atop the soup. The entree comes with unlimited salad, and I loved how you got to select your salad on a piece of paper from one of their amazing ready-made selections or they had a create-your-own space. I opted for the Cobb salad. And even after all of that food, we still opted for dessert because why not? We split the Mountain Mama Cinnabun. The massive cinnabun comes out with a nice layer of icing on top and two scoops of vanilla bean ice cream. It was all we could do to eat "two spirals" of the cinnabun and one scoop of ice cream before we had to call it quits. With all of the beautiful scenery, wonderful salads, and expertly prepared entrees, I would say the wait staff equally provided to the excellent experience. We had our dedicated table host, but in addition to that was The Peddler who takes your food order specifically, additional folks who bring out your food, and other servers whose job it is to keep your glass full and table cleared of empty dishes. All of the wait staff were extremely polite and not overbearing. All in all, it was a delightful experience, and I hope to bring more of the family up next time so they can experience that level of service and food too.

We weren't expecting such a high level experience when we first booked a stay at this newly finished hotel. Classy cocktails, beers, plenty of wine variety, you name it. Went with the Old Smokey as a starter. An old fashioned kicked up a notch. The house smoked maple syrup and charred orange peal knocked his cocktail out of the park. I could smell that smoky flavor from the other end of the bar as it was being made. Bartender was super friendly and had some great mixology skills. We opted for apps all evening, but can't wait to come back and try some more of the menu. The homemade bread is a must.
