Good service and ambiance. We canceled a reservation down the street and we were hesitant because the reviews weren't amazing and I definitely depend on Yelp reviews for every out of town meal. My son and I had eaten here 2 years ago and he loved the escargot so when they were out we got nervous-no need. Everything was actually delicious. Nothing was over the top. Well maybe the oysters. We ended up ordering 4 dozen. Duck wings got 2 thumbs up from my husband and sons (we ordered with bleu cheese). They made a lobster roll for one son (usually only make lobster rolls for lunch) which he loved and the other ordered a steak. But he crushed it before I could try-the bite of mashed potatoes were good tho! I ordered the seafood scampi. Very fresh and filling. It wasn't anything over the top fancy, but it was great service (albeit slow-but why rush when you're enjoying the company) and a solid meal all around. They make their own chips which was the highlight (and we try to avoid chips). Interesting decor and charming staff. The setting is lovely. The menu appeared interesting. We tried the steak tartare and escargot appetizers and found them to be blandish. That is surprising for escargot. Our main courses were the Duck Breast and the Chicken Marsala. Each was disappointing in it's own way. The duck was a bit over cooked. The sauce was very good. The root vegetable mash bland. The Chicken marsala was actually a bed of pocketbook ravioli in a portabello mushroom sauce with sliced pieces of chicken breast layered on top. A very untraditional Marsala dish. Perhaps I didn't read the menu description well enough, but I've eaten a lot of Chicken Marsala before and this wasn't it. It was pasta with chicken. Otto's is great; it's the best Happy Hour in Augusta. $3 cocktails, and their well gin is Tangueray?!?! The cocktails are lovely, and the small plates are wonderful as well. I've had the beef tartare, tuna tartare, and bacon-wrapped scallops, and all are delicious and clearly thoughtfully made. If you want to stay on the cheap, you can have a cocktail and a big soft pretzel and get out for under $10! It's also one of the few places in Augusta where you can get a view of the river, and has a nice patio. read more

We arrived around 7:45 pm, the place was NOT too crowded but the only server was clearly in the weeds, as was the bartender! We waited 45 minutes for our drinks so the server ended up making them for us to "help" the bartender- sooooo strong we couldn't even drink them. Waited another 1/2 hour at least for our food so we ended up getting it to go- the manager came and talked to us but did NOTHING about our bill! Love this place, and the views of river from inside and deck. Excellent food - bacon wrapped scallops with apple butter take it to a new level. Charcuterie app was huge! Seafood scampi, stuffed flounder were excellent. Nice craft cocktails. Decent wine selection, owner was very hands on and happy to greet and discuss dishes with everyone. In response to shortages of staff - we didn't see it. It was a Saturday night, the place was packed, and our food arrived on time. I think they've solved whatever issues they had. Had a special family event for 45 at this restaurant on June 19, 2021. Despite being somewhat short-handed, Wyatt and team did an exceptional job in terms of both service and food quality. The restaurant layout and location work well for big events like mine. However, I would gladly go back for an individual, couples, or family lunch or dinner. Been here twice so far. As others describe, this place is very cosmopolitan, nicely renovated with waterside location. Great service and very good food in a traditional Italianish vein. The lounge is super chic and comfy with great drinks. We have tried the escargot, duck wings, stuffed fish, scallops w risotto, eggplant and desserts. Favorite is the duck wings! Least favorite is the eggplant, smallish for price with rare mozz bits and seriously oversalted. In fact, the only other criticism is that all the dishes were oversalted. The desserts were excellent and warm brioche accompanied the meal. This is a welcome addition to the Augusta Water St happenings. read more

Charcuterie board had decent stuff on it but was served ,"chunky style." Thinner sliced meats and cheeses please. Suggest adding roasted garlic and sun-dried tomatoes. Take a trip to Paris or Rome when you get a chance. They really do the boards right over there. Ran out of chilled Corona. No draft local beers. Food appeared fresh and safe to eat. Food was pretty decent but the wait for the food was astronomical. The entire restaurant was upset over the wait time ( there were not even that many people in the restaurant), we were a party of 5 and after an hour without our appetizer (salads) we were talking to a manager, they said they were under staffed but we still waited 15 more mins for the salads and at least 30 mins after the complaint to get the food. The owner was clearly having an off night and comped the full meal after we were there for 2 hours. The food was pretty good, not worth the wait though however hopefully this was just an off night. The cocktail list was heavily on the sweet side which is not my thing so I went with an Old Fashioned because what could happen with an Old Fashioned? Warning sign #1 was the menu specified a Luxardo cherry, but the drink arrived with a standard red dye #2 cherry. I ordered the charcuterie plate. Egads. What a sad thing that was. Supermarket everything. Pickled sausage and peppered sausage for meat. Cubes of colby cheese. Mini mozzarella. White AND yellow cheddar slices, and pepperjack squares. A pile of trail mix. Triscuits and club crackers. I feel like this happens a lot. A place wants to follow the trends, but doesn't quite get it. Did I get fed? Yes. Was it special? No. Was it memorable? The bar service was alright. The host was rude when we asked about the entertainment at the bar area. The bartender did not know the difference between various whiskeys when they had many of them on display as top shelf options. Oysters tasted frozen and thawed and displayed in shells that they did not originally come in. Not a great experience but it was alright. read more

We tried to have lunch here July 28th. We asked to sit outside. A waitress said there were no available tables for a party of 4. I asked if we could wait. She said no, they just seated people. She said we could sit inside. There were 2 small tables available outside & I asked if we could sit at them. The bartender said it would be better if we sat together. He said we could sit inside. I said 'we don't want to sit inside.' Could it have been more obvious that we wanted to sit outside? I have never been greeted with such hostility at a restaurant. A group of friends and I decided to try this restaurant. We're on vacation from California and wanted to dine in a nice place. On arrival, we were seated promptly and our waiter did mention that they were busy and to bare with them. We were given bread immediately but drinks were brought nearly 40 mins after. We are currently at our table, it's been 2 hours and have yet to receive our entrees. Not to mention that the wine we ordered was old. When the manager was advised about it, he only offered to give us half a wine glass. This is unacceptable. Moreover, they attempted to re-serve a plate that had just been served at another table. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL. I would give them ZERO stars if I could. Very disappointed in our first dinner in Augusta. I also want to add that this was in no way the staff's fault. This is all on the management/owner. They should train their staff on how to properly handle the food. The manager should've manned up, and taken full responsibility. Very dissatisfied and disappointed! We started our evening in the lounge where the bartender admitted that he was not very knowledgeable about beers and wines. Our waitress was average at best.... at one point she carried away a plate from out table and stopped to deliver another table's drinks while still holding our dirty plate. Our daughter ordered a dish and asked to have no meat, a request the waitress said would be no problem to accommodate... it is fortunate that she'd didn't get sick because there was meat a plenty in her dish. By the time the waitress finally checked back with us the rest of our party was almost done with their meals. She gave my daughter a fresh dish to take home however I feel that her entire meal should have been taken off our bill. The chicken cordon blue I had was dry and overcooked. I couldn't find the ham that should have been in it but perhaps the ham was substituted by the partially cooked bacon wrapped around it. This was our second visit as we wanted to give them another chance to impress.... our visit last summer was equally unsatisfying. We will not be returning read more

This place is one of the worst dinning experiences of my life. We get there and we sit down on lounge. Low and behold there a man yelling his head of at the bar. So we move to the dinning room. We sit down and wait 10 minutes for someone to serve us. When the waiter comes he barely knew the menu and when my friend ask about the lobster and what it comes with he looked like he shitted a brick. We waited 50 minutes for food. I seldom write negative reviews, preferring to praise excellence rather than highlighting what may just be an off night. However, I make an exception. We arrived with high hopes. The place was clean and somewhat elegant and a nice location. The waitress was cheerful and responsive. Unfortunately, we should have taken a hint when she began by telling us what was not available versus what was. Bad on us for staying, but once we ordered, the wait began. And wait we did. Initial service from the waitress was good, but then she disappeared. The manager would pop out, but never stopped over. We waited, and waited. After 40 minutes my wife's salad showed up. 20 minutes later, still no dinners. As such, I went to the manager and it appeared that food would take another "15 or so". We decided to leave, but I got the manager and expressed the frustration. He was "unaware" there was any problem. Bull. Fortunately, he comped the meal. Okay, what's the real problem? If you don't have supplies and only one cook, how about warning and then a lot of attention to keep your customer happy. Fail on all counts. read more

Everything else (Not so much) Scallops, risotto and roasted asparagus were bland at best. Never had bland scallops in Maine. It was also rather odd that we made reservations for 4, the place was 3/4 empty when we arrived, yet the owner seated us right under the blowing heat pump. We finally asked to be moved so he just turned the heat off. Anyway, Great location, beautiful building, wonderful staff and the wine was also good. Price is on the (high) end. Ordered the stuffed sweet potato to go and got home to find only a half of a potato. $15 for half a potato, three small slices of avocado, and small slices of out-of-season fruit.
