I ordered a bunch of food for a small party, and all of it was great and worth saying a few words about. Onion rings at most places are disappointing. They come out limp and tasteless. But these onion rings are fantastic. They are thick cut, and I knew they were special when one of my friends immediately tried it and I could hear the distinct crunch of breaded food that's been fried perfectly. Their chicken tenders are amazing. A friend of mine once wisely said that you can tell a great chicken tender if it doesn't need any dipping sauce because it can stand on its own. My long-time go-to has been Chik-fil-A, but Gusto's tenders blow Chik out of the water. Who knew that was possible? The breading is perfect and so is the seasoning. And another way you can tell a great chicken tender is the "next day test," which is eating it cold the next day right out of the fridge. These tenders are spectacular. Their steak & cheese bomb sub and roast beef sub have the right ratio of meat-to-bread, and the taste is top-notch. Their pizza is very good. I'm a big lover of Neapolitan-style pizza, and this is more like a Greek-style crust, so I can't say it's the best I've ever had. But it's really good, and their red sauce is savory in a way that most places are lacking. What is also a must-try is their large calzone. I held my breath because I've tried so many of these around this area, and when a place serves a calzone that's enormous and almost the size of a large pizza, usually it's a bit dry. I ordered the chicken parm calzone, and the moment I opened the box's lid, the fluffiness and moistness of the calzone were evident. Also, they cut it in such a convenient way so that each piece is easy to lift up by hand and eat without a mess. And the taste? Superb!!! The stuff shells and meatball are also top-notch. There is something different about the ricotta cheese they use which I can't put my finger on, but it gives the dish an extra dimension that I haven't found at other places. And if the food isn't great enough, the people there are truly wonderful. In so many ways, this is old school at its best. They helped me carry the order to my car. What also deserves some mention is that this is the type of take-out place that we should all spend our money at because not only is the food really delicious and fresh, but the service is also great. You give them your credit card to swipe, and that's it. They don't expect a tip and do things like turn the POS terminal around to guilt you into giving a tip. They focus on putting out great quality food and being kind. It's an example that every restaurant and take-out place should emulate.
