    Beef Tartare

I was so excited to try this restaurant and it was soooo underwhelming. Uni was not fresh & pungent. Toro nigiri with uni paired a sour sauce and was unpleasant. All the seafood was not fresh, lack of texture and I had better in my home town. I was not impressed with The beef Tartare, it was not fresh and blend, not well seasoned and very bad texture. It was so chunky, nothing to pair with it. Just sooo bad. The Wagyu with bone marrow & the mushroom & Parmesan were amazing. Pls do not order the uni & scallop bone marrow one, it was so underwhelming, we were sharing and we ate the noodle but the uni was so pungent. We did tell the server but she didn't do anything about it. Well save your money somewhere else if you want some good seafood otherwise the Wagyu & bone marrow is a good dish to try.

Wow, what a great resto with delicious food! We ordered various cocktail and drinks. The waitee brought free yuzu sake shooters which were very good! We shared the best soft shell crab buns, marinated tuna and endives as appetizers. We then tried their duck breast mazemen and spiky ikura mazemen, super good! We ended with the two desserts: light yuzu cheesecake and chocolate matcha cake, so full but perfect ending!

Excellent food. A bit pricey for both the plates and drinks, so you need to be okay with spending a bit here. My date and I split a few dishes, and everything was super tasty. Very nice staff as well.

Bar Otto is a Japanese restaurant located in the Little Burgundy neighborhood of Montreal, Quebec. On the menu: * Karaage (Japanese fried chicken, Yuzu mayo) * Zuke Maguro (Marinated bluefin tuna, avocado, cherry tomatoes and endives) * Whelk Ceviche (Mango, cilantro, jalapeno, cucumber, edamame and Yuzu dressing) * Nigiri Box (12 Pcs) The Karaage is perfectly crispy, in its golden, dry batter, and is paired with the flavourful Yuzu mayo dip. The marinated bluefin tuna is extra fresh and is mixed with fresh cherry tomatoes and ripe avocados, sitting atop a bed of crunchy endive leaves. Whelk Ceviche, with its unique texture and an array of fresh veggies, and the refreshing Yuzu dressing, make it for a extra fresh spring salad-like dish. The fish in the Nigiri box set were very fresh, flavourful and beautifully presented. Instagram: @bar.ottomtl

Pretty disappointed! Heard really good things about this restaurant so was excited to try it out. Started with chicken karage ~ definitely far from the best one I tried. The chicken was under-seasoned and not crispy at all. I don't think the chicken was even dipped in any batter. Soft shell crab bao - ok but not wow. I would have like it to have some pickled vegetables to cut the oilyness of the crab. Octopus carpaccio - decent. Noodles with bone marrow and uni ~ like the texture of the noodles as they were springy. Wished there was more uni on the dish as it was pricey! Would have liked it slightly more seasoned. The best items were the nigiri with wagyu and uni on top. Melted in your mouth but it is $15/piece. Overall I thought it was pricey for the food you get. Will Not go back.

Bar Otto is one of the newest restaurant of the Otto family! It all started with Otto yakitori on St-Mathieu, then Otto bistro in Mont-Royal and now finally the best of both worlds in St-Henri. The decor is beautiful, minimalistic and with the perfect touch of upscale look. The greenery of the bar compliments their furniture. The bar gives people a cozy kind of feeling! To start, we ordered the uni sashimi and the sashimi platter. All the sashimis were extremely fresh and well worth the cost. As for tapas, we ordered the eggplant, the karaage and the chicken skins. The eggplant was the perfect salty and spicy marinate. It had these little crunchy pieces which made the perfect pair with the soft texture of the eggplant. The karaage were very big pieces; crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Oh... for the chicken skins.... always amazing!!!!! Lastly the duck confit mazemen... delicious delicious, a must if you come here! You will not be disappointed!!! Extremely tender, tasteful and beautifully presented!!! If you love Otto yakitori and Otto bistro, you will love love love Bar Otto

Decent food but pricey. We shared the eggplant, spicy ikura mazemen, the croquette, the sashimi platter and some skewers. They were all pretty good and the presentation was nice. My personal faves are the chicken skin skewers and the croquettes. The menu consists of tapas so the portions aren't big as they're meant to be shared. Our final amount was around 45-52$ after tax per person depending on the drink we got. It is definitely pricey considering that we weren't full. As for the service, the food came pretty quickly and the staff were nice and friendly. The inside doesn't feel like a japanese restaurant at all. I would probably come back to try some of their other stuff but I will definitely try to order something more filling to avoid being hungry. Make sure you reserve before coming if it's on a weekend!

So happy to see restaurants like this one open in South-west. Good wine list, nice cocktails, plates to share, what's not to like? We highly recommend sharing plates so we get to taste it all. Sashimis we're fresh, I just hope they were served earlier during the meal. Skewers should not be skipped. Tasty and traditional. Fried chicken kaarage was tasty, we added truffle mayo on the side. Smoked trout croquettes is a great fusion dish. Pork bun and ursin ramen with bone marrow was a hit. Overall our favourite dish, believe it or not, was the brussel sprouts. Perfectly cripsy, sweet and sour, topped with almonds.

Even during peak summer season the restaurant was crowded and even had a line starting to form at peak lunch hour. There are not very many large tables so don't expect a large group to be sitting together. The menu is pretty straightforward with the typical miso, tonkotsu, and shoyu broths. But they even have a tomato broth with Hokato scallops for those more adventurous. We ordered the Tonkotsu Black $19 & the Tonkotsu+ $19. Is it pricey for Ramen? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes. The Tonkotsu Black had a rich broth with prominent garlic oil. The Tonkotsu+ was really the show stopper. With 3 different styles of meat: Smoked pork pastrami, meatballs & chashu. The truffle oil was fragrant and earthy. But the biggest surprise was shiitake mushrooms. They were marinated/seasoned to perfection, with a hint of sweetness. I would've been happy with just a giant bowl of shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil. The broth was much lighter and delicate than the Tonkotsu Black, yet strong on the truffle. If you're not really a fan of truffle, do not get this. We were tempted to go back again, but we opted to try other restaurants around the downtown area. 10/10 Would go back again! The staff are very friendly and quick. Give it a try! They have multiple locations, especially if you're looking for something new, yet comforting.

Tables are tightly situated and there's a cozy bar situation where I sat this time, able to watch the chefs cook right in front of me. The daily specials are posted on their Instagram page, as well as written on pieces of paper around the restaurant. My server quickly helped me to water and a glass of sake. I placed a to go order for one of the daily specials, the grilled sea bass with sushi rice and salad, with some kimchi. I also ordered the BBQ chicken with tortilla and salad, as well as vegetable gyoza. Everything was incredible. Truly. The gyoza came topped with green onions and was SO crispy and hot and was perfect with their soy sauce. I thought sea bass was wonderful with a unique almost smoky flavor that melted in my mouth paired with the slightly sweet sticky rice. The barbecue chicken was great as well and better the next day. One thing I don't really understand is why they served plain flour tortillas cut into quarters with their food. We didn't utilize this, nor the white butter/mayo sauce that came alongside it. I hope to eat here often, for years to come and am so happy to see this iconic Japanese restaurant still thriving years later.

Once seated, things happen very quickly...it is go, go, go (in the best possible way.) Green beans were everyone's fave, but I have to mention the (pickled?) vegetables on the salad. So flavourful! Also tried the egg drop soup which is so tasty. Mains were the salmon tuna bowl, the beef short ribs, the shrimp burger, and 48 hour pork with curry sauce. Everything was wonderful! Finished with their soft serve ice cream, I had the cherry blossom but one of us had the sake, which is a shot of sake poured on top. Amazing! You can even have wasabi or ginger... I'll try that next time (and there will be a next time soon!)

In my opinion, not everyone gets sushi right, specifically with the freshness of the fish, so we were pleasantly surprised to find Kyo. I tried the Snake roll, edamame, and requested an avocado/ cucumber roll which they made for me. The rest of the group tried the rainbow roll, chefs choice Maki combination, chefs choice sushi combination, tonkatsu pork, and the beignets for dessert. Let me start off by mentioning the incredibly kind service we received from the hostess, server, and staff the entire night. On an incredibly busy Friday night, they maintained their patience as the restaurant was completely booked, and were kind and pleasant in every interaction. The restaurant itself is beautifully located in downtown, clean, and spacious. You do not feel rushed to eat. The food was so good we have decided to go back for dinner one more night before traveling back home. The vegetables and fish are fresh, the portions are perfect yet generous, and overall, id rate this restaurant a 12/10. Highly recommend if you're in Montreal and looking for good food.

I will note that some of the soy beans we got were the biggest I've even seen. Furakake added needed flavour. - Avocado Truffle Tacos: OK. Quite tiny, but well made and tasted good. I didn't get any hint of truffle though. - Wagyu Dumplings: Good. But similar to any good quality non-wagyu dumpling I've had before. Overpriced. - Paradise Maki: Good. I like the texture of the tempura. - White Dragon Maki: Very good. I think the ponzu sauce elevates this dish another level. Service was pretty standard.
