Me? Just roll with it. For our schedule we wanted to do a canal tour, but it wasn't going to work for itinerary, so we opted for the river cruise instead. I am very glad we had done so. Rolling down the Ottawa river was a welcome break from all the walking, and you get to see these beautiful views of the city from the water that you otherwise would be completely unknown to you, like who really shot JFK. Our guide was a sweet and cheery girl, she enjoyed talking with guests and answering questions. The other staff were quite friendly, the boat was clean, and even had a bar (thank you sweet baby Jesus!) which allowed for my wife and I to enjoy a glass of wine on the river. Definitely recommend.

Tour location was at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum and the booth is in the back corner. If you aren't planning to visit the museum, you can just let the admissions person know you're just there for the biplane ride and they'll let you in. The ride itself was cool and the pilot did some awesome twists and turns (he explained to us before ride what his plans were and confirmed if we were comfortable with the maneuvers). They also gave me a cushion as I was a little too short to see out the plane which was a nice touch.

When we arrived we met the woman at the desk who was very friendly. There was only one plane flying that day, instead of two, so we had to wait a little longer than our reserved time. Nice thing is we got to walk around the museum, so the wait was no bother at all. The flight lasted about 15 minutes and the pilot was a really friendly guy and consummate professional. Honestly the thrill of being in a biplane was worth it alone, and I loved when the pilot banked the plane sharply. Sure, I could have spent more time in the air, but I am not disappointed in anyway. Cost me for 2 adults, 2 kids just under 100 cad. Our guide was Hanna and she was excellent. Overall she seemed extremely knowledgeable about the area and added a little theatrical approach to her story telling. It's a short walk to the prison but once inside it's a throw back to 100+ years in the past. Spooky and fun. Not overly scary for my 10 and 7 yo. If I'm ever back in the area I'll definitely be checking out one of their other tours. My kids loved it.

The function occupied Salon B&C, which I would say would fit about 400 people. The chandeliers were beautiful and there was a pretty water structure in the lobby that served as a nice backdrop for photos. We had a four course meal. The first course was a roasted tomato bisque. I ate one spoonful and gave the rest to my husband (and he ate it not because he thought it was delicious, but because he was incredibly hungry (as was I, but my actions were still as such)). I found the soup incredibly watery and the texture was not smooth. It tasted to me like watered down pasta sauce. Fortunately, the food got better from there. The second course was a salad which consisted of mixed greens wrapped in cucumber slices, with olives, grape tomatoes, mini bocconcini cheese balls, and croutons. The presentation was interesting with the salad wrapped in the cucumber. I still don't know how they kept it together because there was no toothpick. The taste was satisfactory. The dressing was a little too oily with not enough flavour in my opinion. However, the vegetables were fresh. The main course was a Tandoori chicken breast with basmati rice and roasted vegetables, with raita on top. I found the rice on the dry side, and the vegetables (zucchini, squash, and sweet potato) not particularly flavourful. The chicken had a mild tandoori taste to it, and I appreciated that it was de-boned, save for the wing drumette. The chicken was moist, so at least it wasn't dry. The dessert was my favourite course. It was a chocolate hazelnut mousse with meringue and half a strawberry. The mousse was rich and creamy and the meringue was fluffy and delicious. The servers were all very good and competent. This convention centre is by the airport and surrounded by many hotels. I think the location is convenient for events where attendees may be flying in and staying near the airport. There is free parking in their private parking lot.

The only downside to the night was that a wedding beside ours were not following the rules for outside equipment and when loud music could be played, which put a huge damper on the speeches as no one could hear them.

We stayed in an above lot from a private parkade, and they said that they would compensate, but they didn't for the full days that we were there...because they claimed there was parking in their underground area, but we couldn't find it. It wasn't like we checked every hour, we were out exploring but my husband checked when we first got up, before we left to go explore for the day, right before supper and in the evening. I dislike the pettiness that happened, when really, it shouldn't have had a big deal to compensate for the couple of days. Staff was friendly. Complementary breakfast was good. We were lucky to get an upgrade which was unexpected but very much appreciated. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The only catches would be the bathtub that was slightly stained and the soundproofing. If you're unlucky that we were, you'll hear everything that's happening next door. But the price is more than decent for what you get.

Some things to note to make it a 5-star experience: I would recommend walking through some basic safety rules at the start. Things to cover include how and where you should park yourself if you have to briefly stop on the trail, how to deal with someone who is stopped in front of you on the trail, or how to pass pedestrians safely, where should you do when you stop as a group if you have multiple people, etc. Given that Ottawa can be busy, a little overview of these rules/guidelines would go a very long way. I also felt that we ended up stopping a little more frequently than I would have liked on the latter half of the tour - mostly buildings I don't really even remember! Nevertheless, had a blast and would recommend it anyway!
