One man. One chair. A timeless legend. Ottavio is an artist and an ambassador for South Boston. He's been my go-to guy for cuts for years now. Walk-in only, cash only... all we ask is that you buckle your seatbelt! read more

Fast and easy cut. Ottavio is a character and great barber. Enjoyed the conversation!

An old school barber with over 50 years experience. He knows what he's doing. Always a good balance cut, scissor or buzz he can do it. Very entertaining gentlemen. His shop is clean and rarely a wait. read more

I have never in my life been so quickly verbally accosted on the phone from the owner of a business. I called to inquire if there were any wait times due to the weekend nature and was not only hung up on the first time but the second time he used verbal profanity. From my understanding this is a typical old Southie guy that has no true grip on reality nor does he have any interest in garnering new customers. If my one phone call about wait times was frustrating, I hope his family and friends are out there doing okay lol. read more

Great guy and a very nice haircut! I will definitely be back again. Price is also very reasonable.

The barber is seasoned, and doesn't cater to pesky easily offended types, nor does he even try to stroke your ego. Deal with it. Go in, get a cut, hear a joke or two (sometimes at your expense), bugger off. He likes soccer; make sure to tell him know how American football is more fun. read more

The best place for a great cut! Ive been coming here almost 40 years and there is no where else I'd go. Clean and very entertaining. read more

Ottavio's Barber Shop - The best! - Barbers Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

Been going to Ottavio's since 18 years old and he is the same great guy, same great service and competitive pricing. Good conversation, good community guy! Hold my seat! read more

Prime location in Southie - street parking and super nice owners. This seemed like a new location there's one by the same name on west broadway. Can't be easy opening a new business / location during this time so give them a try! read more

If your a man, and want a top notch hair cut; this is the place to go. I was skeptical at first because of bad experiences at barber shops but Ottavio and his staff know their stuff. Also, they treat you like family and are always down to give man-vice. Ottavio's gives a hundred dollar hair cut at a good price. read more

I gotta admit, Ottavio did a good job. I think he's been giving the same haircut for years so he knows what he's doing. Also, this dude uses only scissors which is unheard of these days. Ottavio is fun to talk to and it's great listening to his old stories about the neighborhood. You may even see a few colorful characters in the shop as well. All in all, a good mens barber shop... But Jesus Christ man, did you have to charge me $30 for a mens haircut? Sure, my hair was long but it wasn't like it was down to my shoulders or anything. C'mon Ottavio... I know business is slow but for $10 more I could go to a salon and get a wash, cut & blow dry. Most days you can find Ottavio sitting outside looking for customers so if you want a regular old school mens haircut, look him up. Just make sure you ask him how much before you get in the chair. read more

I was looking to take my 8 year old son for a haircut. Taking COVID into consideration, I called the barbershop in advance to see if it was by appointment only. First phone call had some interference probably due to cellular service. Second attempt to call started out with interference again where the same person answered the phone and used profanity about the connection. Once the caller could hear me, I asked about whether I needed to make an appointment or do they take walk-ins. The caller said "we only do walk-ins so you wasted your time with this phone call buddy" and then hung up on me. Horrible customer service and will not be taking either of my boys for haircuts here. read more

Ottavio did a great job cutting my 5 year old's unruly hair! He was so friendly the whole time and my son walked out looking so handsome...and with a lollipop! I felt like I had known him for years after just 15 minutes! read more

Ottavio is up and running in his sparkling new digs on First St. after 40 years on Broadway. Great haircut at a bargain price, best value in Southie. His stand up comedy comes free of charge as do 3 daily newspapers and Italian and English premier League soccer on a giant screen. Ottavio is a Southie native (via Sicily) whose native Italian has a Boston accent. And whether you're an old school Southie guy or newer in town and looking for a great haircut at a reasonable price, stop by and check out Ottavio's Barber Shop. Parking is on street and a lot easier than the old place in Perkins Square. read more

Terrible job, just needed a clean up and hard part. Couldn't keep his hand still (due to his age) and ruined my hard part. And still charged for a full cut. read more

$14.00 and you can't beat it. Ottavio himself is a star. The salon has an old old old world 1960's vibe, in a bad way. The TV with it's indoor outdoor table cloth has Italian Football or an Italian Soap Opera. His cuts are better than anyone I have been to. Not as good as it gets, but close. He deserves 5 stars. You will never feel like you spent too much. Even stylist I know marvel at his hair sculpture. read more

Ottavio charged me $20 for trimming my beard and he didn't even have a razor to line it up nice. Ottavio Did a really bad job and I ended up with an uneven beard. Really overpriced. read more

Great haircut for $15. It was my first visit to Ottavios. Ottavio will out talk any good talker. He asks what you want done then goes to town on your hair. Be ready to tell your life story or part of it at least in the short fifteen minutes it will take him to cut your hair. The only reason I did not give him five stars is that he does not straight razor the neck and sideburns. Be prepared to watch some Italian football as well. read more

The best $30 I ever spent. Ottavio cut my hair and trimmed my beard fast and proper. When my Wife saw me she was like "WOW!!!!!" and thats the best news I can hear! I will continue to travel from Weymouth to get my cut here by an expert Barber and entertaining talker :) Also I cannot wait to bring my Son here to experience what a great haircutting experience should be! read more

Looking for a good haircut at a good price? Look no further. If you're looking for a yuppie hair salon, keep looking. Ottavio is fast, has some good stories and most importantly give a great haircut. You'll find soccer on the TV most of the time. Highly recommend. read more

Asalud! I get my haircut here and here only. All scissors done quickly and walking out for $20 you are all set. This is a great place to get a no nonsense haircut. read more

Went here for the first time today. Great haircut given by nice guys...overheard great conversation

Compared to a $35 haricut at one of the ritzy South End barbershops, Ottavio's $15 haricut is better. Good conversation, Italian football, and a great haircut. Looks like I found a barber shop for life. Thanks, Ottavio! read more

Honestly, this was the worst haircut I've ever received in my life. I don't know if it was Ottavio or someone else who cut my hair, but the guys hand was shaking so bad that I knew it was going to be a wild ride before he even started. He cut my hair in a total of 10 minutes and didn't even show me what it looked like in the back. I got home and looked in the mirror and it was completely uneven, the left side was significantly longer than the right side, sideburns were different lengths, and it was not AT ALL what I asked for. I spent 25 minutes fixing it myself with a pair of scissors in front of the mirror and it still looks terrible. I gave him one start for being a nice guy and also pretty funny, but I will never be going back here. read more

he gives a good cut. the guy has been doing it since the great depression so knows hair as good as anyone i know. but, with that, comes the fact that ottavio is old school. i like my cuts to be very tight on the edges, which requires a blade. he doesnt use a sharp blade, hes pretty much 100% trimmers. from the three or four haircuts he gave me, i can say with confidence that if you want a traditional men's haircut that will look good and keep your woman pleased, ottavio can be your man. hes also very very quick which may be important to some of you. $15 isn't a bad price, but doesnt seem to put much effort nor time, so id rather spend $15 somewhere else where they put more effort and give me a tighter cut, and I have, i now go to a place right down the street. but i give ottavio my props. so give him a chance and see what you think. read more

Just perfect. This place feels like you are walking into a movie! Very quick, also listens very well and know what to do like no other. I went from the 10$ chains to the fancy salons and can honestly say that I miss neither after coming here. Between the magazines, soccer, and conversations you hear and become part of, this is truly a man's barber. read more

I stopped in here because my normal barber had closed up for the weekend and I really needed a haircut. I think Otavio was already cutting a guys hair, so another guy cut mine. All I can say is that he seemed not to care at all about what he was doing or what style I had asked for. He just took the buzzer and scissors and went at it with wreckless abandon. One side of my hair is visibly shorter than the other and the top of my hair was cut like a 2nd graders school project. I will not be going back. Plus, all the guy did was grunt. No thanks. read more

Very Racist. Went in for a haircut and as soon as I walked in the barber told me he doesn't "do line ups" when what I really wanted was a haircut. Then when I told him I just wanted to lower my hair he tells me he only does "that" type of hair. $20 for a haircut he can cheek that with his racist barbers. read more

Apparently closed. The phone number goes to someone who yells four letter words into the phone.

Awful experience. I walked in here on a Wednesday afternoon after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp and expected much more. There was only 1 guy working (not ottavio), and 1 guy getting his hair cut. I walked in and the old guy cutting hair couldn't be bothered to even acknowledge my presence, in fact the entire time I was there he barely let out more than a grunt or two. I showed him a photo of a recent haircut that I liked and hoped he could somewhat match, and after glancing at it for a total of 0.005 seconds, his only comment was "ah, short huh?" I elaborated a little and said "yeah, short on the sides, but I like it longer on the top you know?" no response... He proceeded to grab some scissors and hack away... and hack he did. He stopped only 1 time to ask how the length was on top. Never offered to trim my beard, shave my neck, or ask for any other input, which I'm sorta glad about now because I quickly decided after looking around at the dirty, disorganized, and junky looking shop that I didn't want him anywhere near my face and neck with a dirty razor blade. Finally getting to a decent length, I thanked him, slipped him a $20 (expensive), and went on my way. Only after getting back to my office where I could look closely in a mirror (he didn't offer me a close-up hand mirror in the shop) could I see how terrible the haircut was. The transition from sides to top is all uneven and hacked, he left little whispy chunks of hairs sticking out all over the place, just terrible. I'll never go again and will encourage all my coworkers to steer clear as well. Terrible! read more
