When I called the Salon to schedule, I spoke to Nancy about my concerns. She was very reassuring and scheduled him in the morning when he would be the only customer in the Salon. Her Salon is set up with lots of toys (she has a whole sensory bin for kids to play with during the cut). She took breaks when he needed it and I think this helped prevent a full blown melt down. He cried but recovered well enough to pick out a toy prize from her treasure chest of goodies for the kids. As a Mom of a kid with ASD, haircuts are almost as traumatic for me as they are for him. But Nancy was wonderful and made me feel at ease too. Oh, and she did a really good job on the hair cut (scissor cut). There was a slight wait before my stylist got to me. It started with a pre-cut hair wash. Then I showed him the haircut I wanted from photos and for the next 30 minutes he did a great job cutting my hair to my specifications. After the cut, I got my hair washed again and then he styled it using some gel and hair spray. My haircut was clean, even, and matched what I showed my stylist. My haircut plus tip came out to about $55. Of note, they speak almost entirely mandarin Chinese here.

However, I really want a hair cut, so I decided to do a hair adventure where I would go to a new place with a new stylist to try my luck in the Allston/Boston area. I believe my hair stylist was called Kevin or Devin? I heard them call his name. A young dude with glasses. I told him I just want a bit shorter but not too short, I want my hair to cover my ear. But the FIRST cut was on the side all the way to reveal my ear... I told him right away it was too short, but I know its too late... So I told him just cut what you think is the best that would make me look good. (Normally before your first cut you would ask or you start from cutting a bit and see if its too short. If it is too long, you can fix it, but too short you can't. That is why I was shock his first cut was all the way to reveal my ear...) My face is on the wider side and he cut in a style that reveal my fat face... then I realize the previous customer has kinda similar hair cut and I begin to suspect he only know that one style and no matter who it is he cut everyone's hair like that. Another thing was he didnt use the mirror to show me the side or back and said all set... As for the assistant. I can feel that her basic washing skill is solid, but she didnt put conditioner in my hair, shampoo only. Also there are not much a massage for the head. Typically first wash, shampoo, after cut, second wash with conditioner and some light massage. I am kinda disapointed, and now make my face bigger... Nonetheless, I can always wear a hat. Their website looks good and this place do got the potential. Lastly when I tip the stylist, he didnt even said thank you. He just looked at me blankly and it was kinda embarrassed. The assistance do say thank you. The stylist may need to work on smoother soft skill, but when he was cutting my hair at least it was comfortable. I just hope he could communicate and listen more and analyze the customer's face shape and cut a little bit off first, not first cut all the way especially I already told him I want to cover the ear and pointed the length I want at my ear; yet he still one cut all the way... and it was the first cut... sigh. (if you guys wondering what kinda of hair style he gave me, check out their men's photo, it looks similar to that, side shave off and hair on the top. But I said don't reveal my ear and he reveal it 100%... that is like the only hard core rule I have for him and his first cut violate that rule...)

With the pandemic still in full swing, that wasn't a feasible option so I called Annette and explained that I desperately needed a touch up but I was nervous to see a new stylist and would feel more comfortable if she'd use the same relaxer I'm used to. She had no problem going out and getting the exact formula I use on my hair and was able to get my in the salon the next day. I was so pleased with the work she did. One of the reasons I don't typically go to other stylist, even for something simple like a relaxer, is because they'll often rush through things, either missing some of the new growth or over lapping with the hair that's already been relaxed. I've also had stylist skimp on the basing and because I have a super sensitive scalp, without enough base I start to burn before I'm fully processed and I'm not one to sit in the chair burning, it needs to come out once the burn starts. All and all I was really happy, and I'm glad to know that there is a stylist I can go to in Boston, especially when there is pandemic going on that makes it unrealistic to travel right now.

Apparently you CANNOT get intense bleaching done back to back the way I did. There was only a SEVEN (7) day time period between my blonde and my bleaching again for the pink color. I would go here again but I am skeptical as the stylist should have educated me instead of telling me it was fine to color my hair. Especially since my mother had just died my confidence was at an all time low because of this. Not to mention quarantine happened not long after so I never got to go back!! I got advice from another licensed stylist before confirming the state of my hair.
