I was on a writing assignment in Boston and noticed that I really needed a hair cut -- just to clean up my appearance. Luckily I found a barber shop in the Financial District and close to my hotel. This is not one of those pretty boy salons but an authentic old-school barbershop. I made an appointment with Carlos and the outcome could not have been better. He is a true professional barber with great skills in precision cutting. I walked out the door looking much more presentable than I did walking in. I will return. NEVER GO HERE!! Was trying to support local businesses and help out this barber shop so I made an appointment. With everything going on you're not allowed in before your time and wait so I had planned to arrive on time or within 5 minutes. I had to take a second to park and took a few minutes longer because of construction. I parked and looked at my phone to see my appointment was canceled and it was 10:51 with my appointment at 10:45. I called to explain I was driving and couldn't call but called as soon as I parked and was walking to them. They told me too bad your appointment is cancelled. So now I drove all the way here and paid for parking only to not get a haircut and have them lose my business forever. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. At this rate I doubt you'll even last. read more

Great haircuts from an old school barber that actually uses scissors. I keep my hair fairly short and my haircuts here "last" longer, which I've heard is a sign of a good cut. This place can be a bit hard to find - there is an outside staircase downstairs off of State Street (to the right of the wine shop) or off of Quaker Lane. Tried this place on a $13 haircut Groupon for Men. The place is in the basement of a nice place, has a classic barber shop feel. My barber was Emilio, who immediately let me know he had been cutting hair since he was 11 years old. He then asked me what I'd like, and that's when the worst haircut of my life began. He had no idea what I was requesting and had no input of his own to assist. Basically had him finish the sides with a #3 machine razor, and had him take only the tips of my hair off on top. Pretty bad haircut, wouldn't recommend this place. 2 stars because Emilio was a friendly barber, who sadly has no idea how to cut hair. read more

I went to this place yesterday and got the worst haircut I've had in my entire life. The guy who cut it was really creepy, kept telling the same weird stories over and over again, and took way too much time for a simple cut. The haircut itself was so bad that I had to go somewhere else to get it fixed. All of my friends and coworkers immediately noticed how bad it was. I was walking by this shop, in need of a haircut because my regular barber was not in this week. A barber came out just as I was walking by, and I asked if someone in the shop could do a really good flat top. I've had so many barbers mess up my haircut that I always quiz them before I let anyone new touch me with the clippers. I was told that John could do the best flat top in the city.
