I really love this store! I stop by Otaku Cafe every so often to check out what's new in stock or get my fill of Asian snacks and drinks. I've never been in to the arcade section of the store so I can't really comment on it, but I love how they always have anime playing on one of the walls in store and will host different events like Smash Bros and Beyblade tournaments and/or practices. Their merch selection is constantly growing too, so there's always a wide array of things to peruse through. Plushie keychains and blind boxes, anime figures and gundam sets, and the aforementioned snacks can be purchased here amongst so much more. I'd highly recommend checking this place out! Absolutely not a good place to take your kid... and no warning signs on the door to let you know that R and X rated merch is on full display at child level. I walked in with my 8y son for the first time thinking he could walk around like other Pokémon and amine stores we've been to. None of the staff bothered to say anything either... Most of their anime is very adult themed, nude, or nearly nude characters. I'm not a prude... and more power to the adults who dig that stuff but I was completely caught off guard and embarrassed for my son that I took him there for the 3 min it took me to realize what kind of stuff they sell. read more

Wasn't really sure what to expect from this place, but I wanted to go anyway. The little store up front was pretty simple. Lots of collectable figures to look at or buy. Personally, I thought they had too many female character figures around the store, but whatever, I wasn't planning on buying anything unless I saw an Inosuke Hashibira figure. I love it here!!! Great selection of imported games, snacks and anime merch! I love all of their rhythm games. The arcade is so affordable. You're charged hourly so you can get an hour of playing up to a full day of playing. I highly recommend trying out their games and finding something new! I've been coming to Ric and Rik's shop for many many years. We wanted to have a small meet up of friends and enjoy some cupcakes, pizza and the arcade. I visit them 1 week ago and tell them this. I was given the go ahead and proceed to tell my group of friends the good news. I call today at 11am (02/11) and I repeat my questions and get the same go ahead. We show up and are informed it's $250 and it's considered a party. We tell them we verified this twice and were never Informed of a party fee. We don't need 15 wrist bands or special anime. We're just wanting to meet up and see each other after a few months. Enjoy some snacks and that's it. We would clean up after ourselves and be quiet. We're older nerds, we don't make a ton of noise. Do better Otaku. Train your staff across the board to say the same message. This two yes and one no message is hurtful and wasteful. read more

My kids & I went here yesterday while we were visiting San Antonio for my daughter's 17th birthday. My daughter loves Anime & my son loves video games so we went here & it was amazing!!! They had tons of arcade games that were nearly all Anime. I've never seen an Anime arcade like this before, how awesome!!I bet that cost a lot to import all those from Asia! The staff were very friendly & it was only $5 for 1 hour!!! Also I wanted to add 30 minutes to my kids time & the boss said you can have it for FREE ,you don't have to pay for 30 more minutes to play in the arcade!!! Wow how amazing!!! If we lived there my kids would be there everyday!! Very cheap and my kids loved it!! I also got my daughter a big Anime plushie that was not a bad price at all for how big it was! I had no idea what a RikRic OtakuCafe was. I honestly thought they'd be serving some sort of food. It's nothing like that! This is a hangout for Manga and anime fans! They have the coolest arcade in the back. It doesn't take quarters or Yen, instead we paid a flat, very reasonable fee, and were allowed to just go at it, and play as many games as we wanted! They have a variety of old school games, and a whole bunch of games that are all in Japanese, so I had no idea what was going on, other than punching people. Most of the games were pretty easy to get the gist of regardless of the language barrier, and they've done such a great job of building out these game cabinets. Some nerdy types even bring their own joysticks and keypads to play on and do supreme battles. In the front of the store is a bookstore, gift shop, toy store of all the different Manga characters and models. While we were there, they were actively having a meeting where they all compared notes and info on their favorite Manga characters. I've never gotten so much gameplay out of a video game before in an arcade setting! Since it's free credits, we even worked through and beat the entire Simpsons arcade game! Don't have a cow, man! The place is clean! I'd expect an all-you-can-play arcade to be all busted up and over worked, but no- this place is tidy and clean! Awesome place. Stumbled upon this arcade while waiting for our blankets to wash at the laundromat nearby. Reasonably priced and lots of fun. I had never played games like the ones they had but it was fun. We're coming back. The only thing I think the store side should have more products or literature like manga or comic books. Id love to leave a higher rating but I hold hope I can come back to do that in the near future. Though I'm also conflicted which otakucafe listing to leave this review at (there are two for this business). The business sign is a small central otaku cafe logo flanked by giant bold white lettering of anime on one side and arcade on the other. The layout is sparse on the lower level consisting entirely of collectable anime figurines, a small stuffed animal section, and a TV facing a few tables where judging by the collection of Jimmy John menus and crumbs is where people bring their own food to enjoy (though not necessarily clean up afterwards). Not really a great gathering place since the tables are one size fits all, meaning more than a couple friends together you'd have to sit separate or move together round tables for everyone to face one another over. Funny enough they show anime but sell nothing anime related except a huge selection of figurines. I guess I expected a bit more variety as I don't collect and therefore wasn't really impressed by the store portion of the place. From what i saw, No food or beverage are offered here, not even packaged or bottled variety so come prepared to order in or hit a store on your way here. The stairs lead to what was obviously the money hog portion of the business idea. A rectangular room lined in a wall to wall covering of arcade games with dim lighting leaving majority of this room lit by the screens of the games. Every gamers wet dream though really bad for your eyes. The only doors I saw were behind the TV wall with employees only placard leaving me glad I didn't have to use the facilities that were obviously located behind the door marked to keep out patrons as I assume it also contained the office area of the business. That literally sums up the entire place. Nice staff, friendly and fun but overall the idea of a Japanese anime cafe in America is not so new I didn't expect a bit more than expensive dolls and staff picked CrunchyRoll anime episodes to fill in the gap not used by arcade machines. Nice idea that feels more like a teenager hide out than a business geared towards adult anime lovers. read more

Saw this while driving by and I thought it's probably like every other lame little anime cafe I've ever been in, but turns out it rules. I prioritize plastic ladies in my life, so when I saw their figure selection I was mega pleased. The displays are really nice! They have recent figures for decent import prices!! Stuff I actually want to buy!!! Plus the place is really classy and doesn't smell like nerd sweat like I'm used to haha. The arcade prices are awesome. They play cool anime and the cafe area is nice. I would suggest more food but maybe in the future. Ok so are you guys hiring? For real I want to work here, my normal job is at a credit union so I am a very professional nerd!!! I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this place. I also like the Dragon Ball Z figures. The staff was very friendly and helped me. They also offered suggestions on figures and seemed to know a lot about their produces. They also have a paid video game portion of their establishment. I was not able to try it out but I plan to next time. They also hosted a video game tournament while I was there. I would definitely come back and buy their interesting figures. My first time visiting their new location and it's awesome! Great stuff! Great vibe! Great gaming room!! Loves the merch, snacks and atmosphere. When I went it was busy with groups enjoying various card game, watching anime, and hanging out. So much more space than previous location. This little shop has the full anime lovers package. If you're into figures, they have the largest selection of Attack on Titan collectibles I've ever seen (Levi AND Mikasa) along with Evangelion and DBZ. Most of these figures were the real deal fresh outta Japan sh*t but I was kind of bummed that they didn't carry Good Smile or Figma collectibles. They also carried tons of key chains from any anime I could think of and I scored a "didn't-think-these-even-existed" Kill la Kill Senketsu one. In addition to the merch, Otaku Cafe also has a full floor of Japanese arcade games. Now I'm not into a lot of these types of games (something about the women fighting characters and their forever jiggly boobs) but if you are, check it out. And if you just want to hang out with fellow Otakus, RikRic has CrunchyRoll and plenty of seating so you can read subtitles and laugh at jokes probably lost in translation. read more

Great place to chill and shop!! I am a big anime lover and original gangsta gamer girl taking it all the way back to the Commodore 64 yo... D&D, text based games, Neuromancer and Zork type stuff that all y'all young nerd punks don't know about... Anyway, I enjoyed my 2.5 hours here. For all of you figure moe zuko ppl out there, you will like this place. It looks a bit updated from the pics on here. There seems to be maybe more shelving, more decoration, a lot more merch too. All of the figures and toys and Japanese what-nots are reasonably priced and great quality. Aside from all the neat trinkets... they have Asian soft drinks and snacks that I fricken love and enjoyed munching on. So, i just wanted to try out the games and see what that smelled like and it was nice. First I played Tekken (i think it was 6), just because I'm very familiar with this series. It was nice to play this while seated and using arcade buttons and joystick. Standing at conventional arcades is all good, but I felt more relaxed and able to get those combos dialed in. Anywho... Lined up around the perimeter of the gaming area are a lot of screens with different games. Everything is nice dark and clean. Groups of people ranging from teens to mid 30's watching their friend's battling or playing something themselves. I tried everything they had in the room during my 2 hours of game time and it was nice to try out some new stuff. I had to figure out through trial and error some games because of the language barrier, but I could have easily asked one of the nice workers to help me, but I wanted to challenge myself so I didn't. The only game I didn't try was in the back area and it was some kind of multiplayer that they had a projector screen so you could watch what was going on. I didn't know if I could play it because it seemed like other ppl may have been just taking a break and I didn't want to ruin anyone's game. I was super excited and loved to play Street Fighter V... the new upgraded visuals were super eye candy... took me back... I think I also played a snk vs. capcom... they may have had marvel vs capcom... I don't know which one's to be exact, but they had some interesting varieties to choose from. They also had some games based on popular anime or manga that I don't know anything about that I just mashed my way through... My favorite of the night... and it was my first time playing it... Was Pop'n Music... I am a DDR Freak... so naturally I like cute music games like this and I gave it a go and I loved it. This was the machine I was having a tiny bit of a hard time figuring out, but Eventually i was able to get through and I was so happy to find old songs from DDR. I sucked and ended up being the loser all night, but I want to come back and master this game!! People! Come here. You cannnnnnnot beat the price to play. It's a cool hangout to eat snacks and do homework while anime is playing on tv... You really need to come here and give this place a try. read more
