My 73 year old mother ordered propane on Tuesday of last week and still hasn't been able to get her tank filled. Her heat and hot water run off of it and they even have a built in sensor so these things don't happen. All we got for a response was there was nothing they could do. This company should be avoided at all costs. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!! All but one of the several service technicians knew what they were doing. Wrong parts were ordered to repair our systems. The "home office" charged us not only for the wrong part, but also the replacement part and two additional service calls. When we disagreed with the charges we were met with essentially a "too bad" response from the managers of the company. The office manager (John) and the finance department contact aka customer service manager (Danielle) were arrogant and poorly attempted to be condescending. We then received a "past due" notice for the amount under dispute and then within no more than 5 days a notice of collections. To top it off, they came and took back the propane tank, which is fine, it was a rental through them, but it was completely full (120 gallons) and no refund for the propane in the tank was provide to us. This company is the epitome of a poorly run business that is focused on nickle and diming their customers to make money in the short-term and nothing more. I have reported them to the BBB. My hope is to write a follow-up review of this company outlining a successful counter-suit and the approach taken to help others that were screwed over by this company. On a side note, AMERIGAS has been a pleasure to deal with and I highly recommend them as they service the same area as Osterman and will beat their prices. Lastly, I welcome any response from Osterman to refute this review, although I doubt they care enough to lift a finger beyond counting their diminishing pennies as usual. read more

I recently moved to Brookfield and needed to have some work done to get our gas fireplace cleaned and working. The lady I spoke to on the phone was really nice, and welcomed me to the neighborhood like an old friend. She sent a technician over within 3 days and explained their schedule to me, so I knew the days they are typically in my town in the future. The work was done on time and the friendly technician walked us through our entire propane system to show us how it operated. It was great to have the safety brief, as we are not used to having gas as part of our heating needs. As this was our first winter in the new house, we used propane faster then expected and Osterman quickly came to the house to refill us the day after we called them. They also suggested some ways we could save money and trips by installing a bigger tank, which we did. The installation team came over as scheduled, and replaced the tank to a 100 gallon tank. They took care of everything and didn't charge us a dime. They even credited us for the few gallons we had in the old tank! All in all, I cannot say how easy it is to have them as our propane company. I've called them at least 5 times in the past year and each experience was great! I'm not sure who Michael S talked to, but their review sounds like they may work for the Propane Plus company the praise at the end of their post. I've have a pretty good experience with these guys. Our house just uses the gas for our backup generator. The customer support has always been responsive and friendly. The prices are reasonable too! It was very easy to setup an account with them. Would definitely recommend for people looking for natural gas solutions. read more

Go Elsewhere! I am paying $6.65 per gallon for propane delivery!!! This is 30% higher than what friends pay on a Maine island where propane is trucked out on a ferry. It's 60% higher than a relative pays in a rural town in New Hampshire. To add insult to injury, I pay a $60 "low usage fee". I've had it with this company. Poor Customer service I had a propane tank that i used to heat my pool . After a couple years of paying for this (never late ) I decided it wasn't useful for me anymore are requested the tank to be picked up. I had to call 4 times to get the tank picked up - I was told they are unsure of how much it would cost me and could be more than 50.00 . Finally after 4 phone calls and 2 months they picked up the tank and issued me a credit which was less than 300.00 as there was still some propane left . Two weeks passed i never recieved my refund. I called I was told they are very busy but would get the refund out. Here it is 30 days later and I still do not have a check. I called again and said the girl is on vaction and sorry we don't have your paper work. I asked for a manger to call me as I have always paid my bills on time and expect the same in return. read more

What ever you do, DO NOT USE OSTERMAN, they charge a $60.00 fee annually if you do not refill the entire amount of propane with in the year. I only use propane for cooking, so when I purchased the house I was the usage was. I came home yesterday to find a tag on my door, they unplugged my propane tank that I fully paid in cash for. All because I did not pay the $60.00 fee this year, they never called to tell me they were diconnecting my gas either, I was furious, then I call them to get it put back on, mind you I own the gas in the tank that I paid for $400.00 in cash. and they are charging me a reconnect fee of $99.00 plus the $63.00 annually for having their tank on my property. Osterman Propane has provided propane service to my house in Charlton for over 10 years always with excellent service including the relocation of piping and their tank when we added on to the house some years ago. Recently though I have added a whole house generator fueled by propane. I called and asked for someone to come out and review the propane capacity and siting of the generator with me and Marlene A. responded and provided some excellent insight not only into location of the generator but alternatives and cost for the installation of the fuel line to the proposed generator location. Great information and very helpful in my selection of the generator to purchase! Once the generator was delivered Marlene assigned Jim to work with me on the fuel line installation. Jim was very helpful in assisting in the information necessary to complete the trench to the generator location from the tanks and responded immediately to complete the installation of piping and regulator once the trench was ready so we could get the generator on line. Jim and Eric are excellent and extremely helpful mechanics who were a joy to work with. They were very concerned about a safe installation repeatedly checking and confirming we didn't have any leaks. Osterman may not be the least expensive supplier for propane but they definitely have excellent customer service and are very concerned about the quality of their work and the safety of their customers. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for propane service!! read more

Osterman propane was the first company of several I spoke to eligible that seemed very knowledgeable, customer driven and were extremely responsive. Do not do business with this company, save yourself time money and a lot of aggravation!! I had them for 2 years and every time I would get propane they would over charge me. We had a 120 gallon tank and only used about 450 gallons a year. After each delivery I would call around and compare what I was charged with other companies and they were always much higher. The last delivery they were 1.35$ a gallon more than Charlton Oil. That's when I decided to get rid of them. I called to cancel my service and it took them almost 2 months to come pick up the thank. Now they are charging us 124.50$ to pick up the tank. Do yourself a favor and stay away!! As I stated in my review, Charlton Oil didnot quote aprice of $1.35 a gallon, you were $1.35 a gallon more than they're price at $2.50 a gallon. I called to complain and you actually honored that price Every time I got a delivery I would call around you were at least $.60-$.70 a gallon more than everyone else. As far as your standard fee to pick up the tank I never agreed to that because the tank was installed by the owners of the house before us. You were charging them $4.13 a gallon for propane and when I questioned it you dropped it down to $2.50 a gallon stating that you hadn't reviewed their Account in a while. You also left the tank in my yard for two months before you bothered to come pick it up. read more

BEWARE!!! I am writing this on behalf of my elderly mother who lives in East Lyme, CT. THIS COMPANY IS A RIP OFF. I agree with the reviewer below - EXTORTION comes to mind. My mom has an 18 inch gas log fireplace that needed a new remote. They charged her $175 for a remote (can be purchased elsewhere for much less -- Peterson Gas Logs Basic On/Off Remote Receiver/Transmitter Set $73.95 on Amazon). She set up an appointment to have the fireplace serviced/cleaned and to bring her a new remote. For this service, which is a trivial job that takes about 30 minutes, they charged her $129 for labor. Lighting the pilot was part of the charge!!!! The worst and most audacious part is that they charged her a $60 trip charge!!! This was for a trip that was 12 miles away from Salem CT. In a day age when gasoline prices are at an 40 year low. Driving to customer appointments is part of doing business. Can you imagine if every business charged customers for their appointments!!! She refused to pay the $60 and was granted a credit when she complained IN PERSON. This was after writing a letter which they ignored. After removing the charge from her bill they told her they would no longer service her!!!! (PS--they also charge $5.99 for natural gas which is also at a 40 year low and trades at a spot price of 40 cents- Mont Belvieu Propane Spot Price:0.398 USD/gal for Jan 04 2016). Good thing there is another reputable gas company in her area. read more
