Beautiful Atmosphere, Disappointing Food, and Seriously Overpriced I hate writing a review like this because the staff was genuinely amazing, but unfortunately, the food was awful, and at the prices they charge, that's a major problem. We recently visited and our bill came to approximately $170, including a generous 30% tip. I understand that we chose to tip well because our service was good, but spending that kind of money on a meal that left us so disappointed is difficult to justify. Especially when that price approaches what we've paid for a chef's selection at Sienna Tavern in downtown Chicago. Let's start with the $54 filet. I ordered it medium-rare, and it arrived well-done, gray, and completely lacking flavor. It certainly didn't taste like a prime cut of beef, and we honestly questioned whether it was even filet. The accompanying kale was soggy and unappetizing, with roughly five miniature carrots. For $54, we expected something considerably better. The manager working the floor asked how my steak was, and I answered honestly: awful. When I showed her the steak, her response was, "Yeah, we don't know how to cook steak to the correct temperature." We were floored. She then asked if it at least tasted good. Again, I honestly said no. She offered to replace it, which I appreciated, but we'd already been there an hour and fifteen minutes and had somewhere to be. At that point, we didn't want to wait for another meal. Unfortunately, my wife's pappardelle alla ragu was arguably even more disappointing. The noodles were incredibly thick and gummy, reminding us of Amish egg noodles. The ragu was basic at best, with very little short rib to speak of. Our waitress, who was very good, introduced it as their number one seller. That made the experience even more surprising. I'm also a huge Caesar salad fan, and Cafe Navarre has always been a favorite of mine. Sadly, this Caesar salad was tasteless and came with random fried chickpeas that we found unpleasant. I asked them to hold the onions, but I have to ask: Who puts onions on a Caesar salad? The focaccia with goat cheese was excellent and one of the only real highlights of the meal. At $15, the portion felt a little expensive, but the quality was there. My two Grey Goose and orange juice drinks, at $12 each, were surprisingly well-priced and enjoyable. Now, to be fair, the atmosphere and decor were impressive. The restaurant has a beautiful, upscale feel that genuinely reminded us of something you'd find in Chicago. The staff was also friendly and attentive throughout our visit, and I want to give credit where it's due. However, this experience unfortunately continues a pattern we've noticed with NHG restaurants. Each one seems to become more disappointing, and Cascade was another example of a restaurant that felt overpriced and underwhelming. In the end, we didn't eat even half of our food. That's incredibly frustrating when you've spent $170 on dinner. One bright spot came as we were leaving. We ran into another manager whom we'd gone to high school with. He seemed aware of the situation, asked how our experience went, and we explained everything. He profusely apologized and unexpectedly gave us a $25 gift card. That was a very kind gesture, and we genuinely appreciated it. We're willing to give the restaurant another chance when they open their new location near Notre Dame. Hopefully, the food and consistency improve because the potential is clearly there. Bottom line: Great staff, beautiful atmosphere, but the food quality and value were nowhere near what we'd expect for the price. When you're charging $54 for a filet, the execution needs to be exceptional. Unfortunately, this meal fell far short. I hope they take the feedback seriously because we'd genuinely like to see them succeed. read more

I had a reservation at 6:15, had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Our table was wobbly to the point where our drinks would slide around. Our water was tap with no ice and didn't taste very good. I ordered a lemonade which was okay, but it had a paper straw with a weird texture that took away from the quality of the lemonade. I would rather them have used reusable, washable plastic/metal straws instead of the paper straws they used, especially for what is supposed to be a high-end restaurant. My fork was also dirty and not washed well enough. That's the bad out of the way, but there was definitely some upside. The food was phenomenal. The Margherita pizza was the best that I'd ever had, and the chicken parmigiana was fantastic. Everything came out fresh and hot. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with the menu, and we had a total of 4 different workers who came up to us for one reason or another. (I didn't ask for any managers or anything don't worry lol) Overall, the food carried the experience for me. It was good enough to go back to, but getting the rickety table, dirty fork, and paper straw was very disappointing for the supposed high-end quality of the restaurant. I don't live here, but I might need to move here just to be near this restaurant. Jokes aside, this place is it. If you haven't been here and like Italian food, stop searching, close the app now, and drive to this restaurant (maybe check for a reservation first). I came here with a larger group and every single person loved their food. Our server Brendan was fantastic and helpful, and gave us plenty of recommendations and customized them for what we were looking for. Though I'm sure there are other great choices, we generally followed his lead and we were very glad we did. Several of the group ordered the salmon and argued it might be the best salmon they've ever had. I got the rigatoni vodka and it was amazing. We also had the goat cheese appetizer and I'm still dreaming about that one. Also got branzino which was another hit. I'm convinced you can't go wrong here. Osteria Amici is a great, new, and classy Italian restaurant near downtown Elkhart, Indiana, an up and coming foodie destination in NW Indiana! After hearing about it on the news, my boyfriend's dad made reservations for the 4 of us to celebrate his wife's birthday. It was very busy so it was a good thing we made reservations! The entrance is a little hard to find but once you make your way inside, the massive wine and alcohol section, timeless interior, and open kitchen concept wow you from the get go! I especially liked being able to see the pizza oven from our dining table. The staff was very professional and very in-sync, which is all the more impressive as Amici hasn't been open for business very long! The birthday gal in our party, received a birthday card, all signed by the staff. She also received a complimentary scoop of pistachio gelato for dessert at the end ($4). We shared the olive appetizer ($9), the meatball appetizer ($14), and the chopped Toscana salad ($16). I hate olives so I can't attest to how good they are, but they all looked pretty! I wish they gave us 4 meatballs instead of 3 which would have made it easier to share. Maybe make the amount of meatballs an option to change? I split the piccante pizza ($21) and truffle pasta with added chicken ($27) with my boyfriend. He preferred the pasta while I loved the pizza. The curved pepperoni's held onto the hot honey drizzle, which was a delight, and the bread of the pizza was definitely high class and perfectly wood-fired. The homemade pasta noodles were also fantastic. His parents had the carne pizza ($23) and the chicken entree ($27). Then we split a massive slice of tiramisu ($10), absolutely drenched in rum! This really put me over the edge into very full territory. My poor, poor tummy got so full by the end. In the beginning, however, I was famished! So even though I left very full, I wish they provided complimentary baskets of bread. Bread and olive oil would have been a very nice touch. One other note I have is that Osteria Amici should also advertise the option to add additional protein to various dishes. Also, the music, while jazzy and appropriate, was a bit too loud. Me and my girlfriends have been wanting to dine in here since it opened. The vibe in there is so classy, cozy, and warm. We did share a carne pizza, which did not make the cut in the pics but it was very flavorful. My entree was the pappardelle alla ragu and omg it was to die for. The short ribs in it *chefs kiss*! I accompanied my tiramisu with an espresso martini at the end which was the cherry on top. There's nothing they could've changed to make our experience better. Service was fast and pleasant. My wife and I are fans of other dining spots related to the restaurant group that owns this establishment, and simply, our recent visit to Osteria Amici only solidified that position. We were promptly checked-in and seated at a two-top next to a window overlooking the sidewalk. It was a tremendous seating, as the window faced south so there was not harsh sun to contend with. The room abounds with warm browns and tans, and the stylish bar, located in the center of the restaurant, is very upscale, very similar to Cascade in South Bend (a sister eatery). Amanda was our server for the evening, and she was an absolute delight with her sincere desire to make our visit the best it could be. She answered all of our inquiries, consistently used our first names, and was attentive without being obtrusive. We enjoyed the very flavorful meatball and octopus appetizers, the tremendous chicken parmigiana and pizza entrees, and a wonderful panna cotta dessert. Our cocktails were spot-on terrific. We met Paul, Matt, and Mark, managers with the establishment, and reveled in great conversation with them. We now have a new favorite in our area. Highly recommended! read more

They were battered with a very light batter a wonderful risotto in a flavorful pomadoro sauce. For my main I had the rigatoni ala vodka. The sauce was rich without being heavy. Very flavorful. My friend chose the aqua pazzo. A wonderful sea food stew in a light broth. The service was friendly & efficient without being overly attentive. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu. Decided to finally try Amici, we've been eager to since it's opening. It did not disappoint! We were impressed with the decor and vibe as soon as we walked in. It has an industrial vibe while still feeling warm and inviting. I got the limoncello spritz and my husband got a mojito, both were delicious but the limoncello drink was the best. For appetizers we got the arancini and calamari. The calamari was cooked to perfection! Not too breaded and not rubbery at all. The arancini was also incredible. For dinner I got the Quattro formaggi and it was the best pizza I've ever had in my life. I don't say that lightly, I've tried a ton of pizza in my life and this takes the cake. We were first timers, just looking to try a good red wine at the bar rail from their extensive wine list after not finding a seat upstairs at the rooftop.
