Update on the shop - it's now run by Oscar Jr and Bri. Bri is super helpful and extremely expert on all bike brands, even the most recent/advanced brands. Bri was quick to help without trying to push any extra service or products. This shop is all about helping you have a safe and fun bike experience and not trying to oversell like a lot of larger bike shops. read more

Great service and advice on my mountainbike. I will use Oscar for my future needs. Support our locally owned businesses. Just be aware they moved to the plaza across the street near the Starbucks at 12119 Darnestown Rd. read more

Oscar's is a great place to buy or get service for your bicycles. Medium sized shop and Oscar is always there. Prices are reasonable and he stands by all the equipment he sells. Excellent value, service and experience. Especially recommend this shop if your trying to get fitted for a bike. read more

5 stars from start to finish. Soon as I walked in I was smiling ear to ear. Oscar is a pleasure to work with and a good person all together. He was able to get my bikes tire fixed in a few minutes. Great conversation too - Lucky to be near this store and Oscar! read more

Took bike in for a tune-up Friday, July 5th. Was told bike would be ready in 2 days. Called Sunday and was told bike would not be ready until Tuesday. I walked in Tuesday morning at 10am and bike was not touched yet. I received a phone call 2 hours later at 12pm saying the bike was ready for pick-up. Owner charged me $150. No new replacements were needed. I was expecting to pay no more than $100 especially since the shop did not keep their word and I had to wait 4 days for a job I am sure took way under 2 hours. Didn't appreciate how he took care of me. Won't be going back to this shop. Fair warning to all future customers. There are better bike shops in the area. read more

Just went to check on bikes for my mother and the door was locked. The store clerk came to the door and asked what I wanted basically. Uh...maybe to look around for a bike?!? He says he doesn't really want people in there. Meanwhile, there is a white man in the store browsing. I point to the man inside and the clerk says again that he really doesn't want people in there. Yeah...ok, no problem. (I'm black) and yes, I had a mask. No worries, we will take our money elsewhere! Rude as hell. Wow. Terrible. Then he left three people in after me. read more

Very pleased with the service. Oscar worked with me to diagnose bike issues, and then fixed them. I won't go elsewhere now when I have issues. I used to take my bikes to a place in Germantown, but have never been satisfied there. read more

Went in to ask about replacing the tire on a bike. You can tell whoever worked there very much cared about bikes as he was reasonably aghast at the bike we brought in lol (we'd used it for 7 years without any repairs). Communication was..confusing but he was no-nonsense and very clear about everything, except he joked a lot and we weren't sure if he was actually joking or giving us criticism passively. He said it'd be around $47 to change a tire, which seemed reasonable but we decided to just buy a new bike in the end since the original bike was cheap anyway. Only thing that bothered me was that he told us to speak English while we were talking among ourselves in another language. It was likely partly our fault for being too loud and not clear on what we were asking for. It felt like we weren't the type of people who should be walking into the shop. But he was still accommodating as he had disassembled the bike, let us know what the problem was, how much it would be, and helped us get the bike out of the shop. Anyway it was quite an experience and if you're well versed in bikes then it should be good for you. read more

I called to find out how much a tune up was. We have 2 adult and 1 kid bike. He acted like I was asking a super difficult question. Most bike shops have a standard tune up rate and list of things if includes. He wanted me to load up the bikes and bring them in so he could look them over to get a rate. Easy to read between the lines that he wants to charge me as much as possible and after I've done the work of bringing the bikes in, I'll be more likely to pay his overpriced charges. He hedged and finally said his base price starts at $100. That rather expensive, especially considering he clearly will be charging us more. Were not riding expensive bikes. Ridiculous. Just want a little tune up. We'll go elsewhere. read more

You will love doing business with him. He has customers for life with my family. Very reasonable prices and a funny guy. Came in to get my son's bike repaired, I ended up digging my bike out! So we're both going to be riding. So happy to support local! read more

Oscar is very knowledgable and so extremely kind. Always helpful and pricing is great. The shop has moved across the street now. Same great service and awesome people. Highly recommend. read more

I had some great service from this bike shop. I ordered a mountain bike online and it was received unassembled. I took my bike to Andes to have it assembled. The cost was good compared to the other bike shops in the area. They estimated that the bike would be completed next day; but they were able to complete it same days. I definitely recommend to others and will return to this bike shop again in the future as needed. Thank you for the great service. read more

I needed a bike helmet for my toddler, and the folks here were super helpful! I called in advance, and they let me know what was in stock and available. The staff was very kind and patient with my toddler, as they fit the helmet to her head. We were in and out quickly. Well definitely go back for all future and additional bike purchases! read more

This is the best place to have your bike serviced in the area. A family business, the owner and his son work personally in every bike. If it can be fixed, they fix it before rushing to buy a new part. They know their trade as they have been fixing bikes for years. read more

Some friends and I were on a long bikepacking tour and two (yes two) of our rear racks came unbolted within a few minutes of eachother. We managed to zip tie them together and started hunting for the nearest bike shop. When we got to Andes, we were helped despite coming in a few minutes before closing. We were given the right bolts free of charge and sent on our way. Great experience. read more

Very good experience at Andes Bike Shop. Came to Oscar seeking a tune-up and new bar tape for my road bike. He did a great job and I'm very happy with the service and the price. I'll be bringing my bikes to him for tune-ups and upgrades from now on. read more

My son rides his bike to and from school everyday and so every so often, its nice to have a local bike shop to get it checked up on. The owners are father and son I think and they are super nice and friendly. They nicely explained what was needed to be fixed and did so in a timely manner. Highly highly recommended! read more

Charged more. I bought something today that said $20 on it. Gave him my card and he returned with a surcharge for using a credit card of $0.85 -- which he didn't tell me he was going to do before taking my card. Then laughed at my purchase and said "Good luck with that!" And then locked the door. read more

This is a fantastic bike shop. They are primarily focused on service, and the Oscars (Dad and Son) are both deeply knowledgable and skillful with bike repairs up the the highest levels. I plan to take all my servicing needs there. And, while there stock of new bikes is limited, I think they can source and order most anything, as well as build up any custom bike. This is the kind of bike shop we all ought to support! read more

I stopped in to this new shop to have a wheel trued. They had the wheel back to me in no time. And they found a broken spoke that needed to be repaired. The price was very reasonable. The 2 owners, Oscar Sr. and Oscar Jr. are really nice guys. Very friendly and just getting started out. He's adding parts and supplies as the shop opened about 6 weeks ago. They'll have some bikes for sale but they see themselves more for bike repairs, parts and accessories than bike sales. They know what they're doing, they're local. Give them a chance. read more

I took my nephew to this bike shop to get a bell and kickstand for his new bike. This gentleman (who I later found out is the owner) offered to install the kickstand, only to tell me as he was tightening the last screw, that he charged $10 for installation. I couldnt believe how sneaky this was. I have been biking for 20 years in DC and there is not even one bike shop for charges for installation of small items purchased (bell, kickstand, water bottle holder, etc.) When I told him that he should have mentioned the installation charge prior to beginning, he just said "I need to pay my rent". On the way out, I asked him to take a look at the bike rack that I just installed in order to bring my nephew's bike to the shop, he said it wasn't a problem. He took a look, re-wrapped a strap and then when I went back inside to pay, he just charged me (without even telling me!) $5 for "fixing" my bike rack. I couldn't believe this, and again..he just looked at me with a bike smile and said "time is money" and "I need to pay my rent". I paid and wished him luck with his business. Luckily, I live in Washington DC where there are tons of bicycle shops that are honest and I dont have to return to this place. If he is having that much trouble paying his rent, he should raise his prices or at a minimum, inform customers of his charges beforehand. Gaithersburg residents be warned of this sneaky businessman, take your money elsewhere. read more

Absolutely horrible went in to bring 3 bikes ended up getting overcharged and still waiting a month for repairs

I highly recommend Andes' bike shop! Andes and his son were very helpful and friendly! They fixed the tires on my jogging stroller with no problem. I can't wait to buy a bike for my son there when he's older! Thanks again! read more

Great local family business close to the Knolls. It's nice having a good bike mechanic close to home.

I've taken two bikes to them. Excellent service. Very fair prices. They do a great job.

This is a great little shop to goto for your bicycle needs. They aren't a huge bike shop filled with hundreds of bikes and random crap you probably dont need.. What they do have is father and son doing something they love and placing passion behind their work. This is the first place i come when working on my bike, they are friendly and very helpful. read more

Standing in a long line of customers at Performance cycle waiting to see the technician, I googled bike repair near me and found this little jewel of a bike shop. I stepped out of line and drove to Andes bike shop in Gaithersburg. Oscar and his father, Oscar Sr., are there 7 days a week, specializing in bike repairs. The younger Oscar is extremely knowledgeable, patient and helpful. He really knows every aspect of cycling and has been a great resource. Prices are reasonable and customer service is unparalleled. Highly recommend them. read more

After the bigger bicycle chain store told me it was going to be a month for them to even take a look at my bike for a tune up, I turned to Yelp to find another bike store and found Andes Bike Shop. They were able to take my bike right away and after a kept promise of a week later, I picked up my shiny all tuned up bike. They did a great job of servicing my bike and cleaned it up very nicely. Excellent service and they clearly know what they're doing. It's a small shop run by a father son combo. I'd much rather give my business to this local establishment. This is my go-to bike shop from now on for any kind of servicing. read more

Andes Bike Shop is fabulous! They are customer friendly and really know about fixing and repairing bikes. We took a bike in with a chain that busted after 4K miles of riding in all weather. It rides so smooth now and looks brand new ( they cleaned it all up). Best part - the price was right! Check them out!!! read more

I took my my bike to Andes Bike shop yesterday and was treated with utmost professionalism by both father and son. Small shop with exceptional service. He made me some custom brake cables while I waited. Oscar, the owner, is a very friendly and knowledgeable guy. read more

Because of the reviews, I decided to take my bike here for repair. All I needed was new inner tubings which I was told was about $7 each but got talked into doing the service which was supposed to be inclusive of replacing the tubings, tune up, brakes, etc...I agreed to the all inclusive tune up charge. Long story short, I should have asked for it to be written down because I got charged extra $38 on top of the $90 and when I asked about it, the owner was very rude and accused me of trying to rip him off! Wow! I won't be going back. You wouldn't believe how nice he was in the beginning... read more

Very friendly and knowledgeable father and son who run the shop. Great prices and true craftsmanship.

This place is great! The customer service is top notch. They were extremely helpful in making a decision on what bike to purchase. The prices for repairs are very reasonable and to my surprise they actually discouraged me from buying unnecessary accessories for my bike. I would highly recommend this place to anyone! read more

Good experience getting all of my cables replaced, love their small shop feel, customer service and prices. Only problem was the turn around time was several days longer than expected. That said even the delay was shorter than the turn around I was quoted in Germantown and elsewhere. Fortunately I was out of town so no harm no foul. I'll be going back to Andes. read more
