I visited my friend in Northampton for the weekend and we stopped by Osaka for dinner on a Friday night. My friend warned me that the food scene in town just isn't especially great compared to Boston. Both of us ordered the udon (one chicken, one veggie). The portion was substantial, but I didn't find the noodles to be anything particularly interesting and the chicken was pretty dry. Not sure how some of their other menu items taste, but I wasn't blown away. No complaints in terms of service and the restaurant itself was fairly nice. We sat outdoors on this deck sort of area, which was a cool touch. Don't think I'd bother to return, unless I was trying the hibachi.

Have been to Osaka several times over the years and just recently had a very pleasant, quick hibachi dinner at the restaurant. My husband and I made a reservation (but did not need it as we were dining early and the rush had not yet started). We were quickly seated at the hibachi table and the fun began. Osaka's sushi is great, but we opted for two hibachi meals only. Smart idea because we had a hard enough time getting halfway through our plates the portions are so large. My husband ordered the filet and scallops and WOAH! I do not eat meat, but a bite of the filet almost changed my mind. The scallops, hibachi fried in butter and soy sauce, were the best cooked scallops that I've ever had. My shrimp and vegetables were top tier as well. Service is quick and the grill masters are playful, dexterous, and ultra efficient. We were able to order, eat, and leave within 35 minutes. The space hasn't changed much over the years. It is set high on Old South Street, so some steps are required to make it into the restaurant.

I eat at Osaka periodically. Today I got the dragon roll and salmon roll, but I also have had the tempura udon and lunch specials in the past, and those are good, too. One thing about Osaka is that they are really fast. This time, I ordered at 4:50 and the food was ready in ten minutes.

We went on a very busy Friday night, it was a bit too loud for my liking. But that's my only complaint. I cannot say enough about the spicy Toro tuna roll. It was absolutely amazing and I had to order an additional one. Another great thing is that the service was amazing and they kept my water cup refilled the entire time I was there. The edamame was also delicious! Can't wait to go back.

Came here for the hibatchi! We tested out the chicken, steak, rice and noodles :) hibatchi is more expensive but extremely tasty and portions are average to large. Steak bites were large and juicy. The salad was fresh and I loved the tangy dressing! Fire show was extra fun ... (videos attached). Also note but there is a cool seating area right when you walk in! (Photo included) And then they brought mochi for a birthday dessert! Note sure what flavors the mochi were -- colors were yellow and white ... but the chocolate sauce overpowered!

Beautiful location. Sit on the outside deck in nice weather and enjoy the views and people watching. Food is excellent. Service is a 10. Highly recommended.

When you ask your nephews what they would like to do for their next special trip out and they say "Go to Osaka", that's exactly what you do. While at their baseball game, I was able to make a reservation online for when I thought the game would end, and made a note that we wanted to be at the hibachi grill. Easy peasy. There is a large parking lot and parking garage right nearby the restaurant, so even on a busy night like we had, it shouldn't be too much of a problem to find a place to park. We also have someone in our group who is celiac and they have to be gluten-free. They made the entire meal with gluten-free sauce and nobody noticed a difference. Out server was fun and everyone had good laughs. Even if you have been to hibachi once, twice, or 10 times, it's always fun to watch the slightly different things each server brings to the table, literally! I can say, that my favorite hibachi sauce is still Kay's in Westfield, and they are a tad more organized. As the staff were taking our drink menus, they asked if we ordered, and we said yes (or one of the kids said yes) assuming they meant the drink order. Unfortunately, we had not actually ordered our food and staff were walking around thinking we had actually placed our dinner selections for at least 15 minutes before we were able to get somebody's attention. As always, hibachi-style meals all cost about the same wherever you go with the same large quantity of food, so there wasn't much of a surprise there. Unfortunately, I did not get a lot of photos while eating, but just imagine the smiles on the faces of those two boys pictured below getting the chance to eat out with their favorite aunt?

We always try to stop at Osaka when we are visiting Northampton. The quality of the sushi and sashimi is outstanding. The outdoor patio is lovely. I wish we had a place this great near us ...

Osaka is a decent Japanese/Hibachi place in Northampton. We both ordered yaki udon, one with veggies and one with chicken, and were satisfied with the portion and flavor. Both dishes came with miso soup which was a nice touch. Solid food but nothing original. They have a nice wooden indoor seating area complete with a hibachi grill and outdoor covered patio. It's a place where you can stay for a while and not feel like you are being rushed out. 4 stars for ambience and service, 3 stars for food.

We had finished shopping in Northampton and came here for lunch. It's a cozy spot and we got seated at a table inside. We started off with some edamame and agedeshi tofu; the edamame was good as usual and the tofu was delicious. Loved the crispy skin and the tempura sauce it came with. For my entree, I got the three roll lunch special which came with miso soup. I chose the Alaska roll (salmon, cucumber and avocado), Buddha's roll (roasted peanut and avocado), and the eel and avocado roll. All of the rolls came with avocado and they were great. I thought the peanuts were an interesting touch and I enjoyed it. It was a good deal for lunch and service was friendly. On a cooler day, their patio seating would be nice option.

While our table was being set up outside, we enjoyed a drink at the bar--the 15-minute wait was absolutely worth it. The outdoor setting was beautiful, with greenery creating a relaxed summer vibe and live music playing under a small tent, adding to the atmosphere. Our server was equally delightful--friendly, attentive, and spot-on with recommendations. Now, the food: outstanding. We started with the beets and peas salad, which was bursting with flavor--our plates were practically licked clean. The house arugula salad was crisp, fresh, and perfectly balanced with a light, lemony vinaigrette. For mains, we shared the roasted half chicken and the bucatini. Both were phenomenal. I rarely order chicken at restaurants since it often feels too plain, but this one was perfection--crispy skin, juicy meat, and seasoning that carried through every bite. The bucatini, made with homemade pasta and loaded with crispy pancetta, was absolutely irresistible. We couldn't resist finishing with the "Little Mason Jar" dessert, which was indulgent and delicious. Everything--from the service to the food to the ambiance--was exceptional. We'll definitely be back on our next visit to the area

We got there around 1:40 p.m. and they closed at 2, so my friend was a little worried, but we were still welcomed and the staff was very friendly. It's a small place, but I actually liked that it felt cozy. We ordered 12 oysters, two orders of gumbo, a kale Caesar salad, the catfish special to split, and a bourbon-based drink. The oysters were $2 each, which I thought was a pretty good deal. The gumbo was really, really good. It came out a little lukewarm, but the flavor was absolutely there 10/10. The oysters were fresh and also 10/10. The bourbon drink was another standout. The presentation was beautiful, the little flower was such a nice touch, and it tasted just as good as it looked. The kale Caesar was where things dipped a little. It was pretty dry, so we asked for extra dressing, but the dressing didn't really add much flavor. When our waitress checked in, we were honest and said it just wasn't our favorite. I hate sending food back or complaining. I'll usually just stop eating it but she was so kind and apologetic. What really stood out was how they handled it. They told us they were taking the salad off the bill, which they absolutely did not have to do. We had planned to just take the one we had already eaten from home and fix it ourselves, but one of the staff members made us a completely new salad to go. She even massaged the kale so it was actually tender and enjoyable. That was such a thoughtful touch. The catfish was a hit for my friend. It wasn't my favorite, but I still ate it. Overall, I would definitely come back. Next time I'd probably keep it simple; oysters, gumbo, and a drink and I'd be happy. The service was phenomenal, and honestly, service really makes a place. Feeling welcomed and comfortable matters, and this place absolutely gave that.
