    Sushi platter for three!
    Richard D.

Called on New Year's eve to ask about a platter for three. Was pleasantly surprised when I picked it up at 4:00 pm. Beautiful and delicious!

Poke bowl - so big and fresh!

Friends suggested meeting here for an impromptu dinner after their friends raved about the food, and it did not disappoint! Once inside, the decor, furnishings, the smallest detail made us feel completely transported, but the food was really incredible! We all ended up ordering more food to take away. Whether lunch or dinner, on your own or wi the a group, this is worth the stop!

I will forever love that Belchertown has a Japanese place! Having moved there in 2002 and living…read morethere until 2025, it was such a nice change in pace when they moved in. Nearly everything that's been ordered from myself or someone else I've gone with has been yummy. My eight year old absolutely loved the beef hibachi and if it were up to her, she'd eat it every night. If recalling correctly, the only food item I've ever not been thrilled about was their tteokbokki. Normally they have a little kick to them and Kansai's was very sweet. Still enjoyed the dish but I do wish it wasn't as sweet. Usually when we walk in they have us choose whatever table we would like to sit at which is also a plus. Especially when my daughter is in tow because sometimes her childhood whimsy gets a little loud. When I come back to town to visit family, this place is usually our go-to and I'm not upset about it! The one thing I would knock a star for is that I do think its a little overpriced compared to other restaurants such as these. **Please correct me if I am wrong but I also believe the owner of Kansai owns Kisara in Easthampton which is also very yummy!**

It has a decent sized dining area with a large bar for drinks and several TVs scattered throughout. My wife and I met her sister and son for dinner tonight. Let's start with the good. Huge menu with multiple choices of Asian inspired food to choose from. From ramen to hibachi to sushi they have a fantastic selection to choose from. The food itself is also very good. We tried the beef bulgogi appetizer, eel special roll, golden spicy lobster roll, Alaska roll, mt tom roll and chicken hibachi. All had fantastic flavor and the rolls were presented on a huge plate lined up next to each other. Now we describe the bad (or unfortunate). We were greeted by a nice young gentleman who seated us and gave us menus and water. As we sat looking at the giant menu trying to narrow our choices I realized that this guy who seated us was also our waiter. We put in our order and got comfortable. I noticed that this guy wasn't just the host, he was the only waiter in the whole place! Not only that he was also the bartender and the person doing take out. He had 7-8 tables of people plus dealing with take out etc. Our sushi rolls came after a good 20 minute wait. After about 10 more minutes our appetizer tacos came (isn't the appetizer first??) then after another 5-10 minutes we finally got the hibachi. Slow slow and slow. This poor guy working couldn't have done anything about this. I worked in food service for 40 plus years and realized what was happening. Some would just blame the waiter and his tip would suffer. That's wrong! The owners should not only should be aware of this lack of service but should have stepped in to help in times like these. Shame on them! I don't mind waiting for good food but being called a "bistro" you should be a step above the others. Especially with these prices in today's market. Be aware that you might be waiting a bit for your food.

The entrance is actually on the side with no sign, so don't make the same mistake . Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful helping us decide what we wanted giving us tips. So I would say service was exceptional. Establishment is also clean and up kept.

The dining area is still very sparse in design and coverage. The wait staff were still apathetic, and the wait times for things is still a little long. The Korean fried chicken was very tasty, sweet and salty Korean bbq sauce on perfectly fried wings was delightful. We opted for the pho, and that was very good. The broth was rich and flavorful, no need to season it was perfect already. The brisket was tender and still had a strong brisket flavor. There was a good amount of meat to the bowl and the noodles were fresh. The noodles did clump a bit, but they easily separated when agitated. All of the sushi was not as successful. The rolls lacked any significant flavor and missed some basic elements of sushi preparation. The rice was not seasoned, was not sticky, and the fish was roughly cut. The spicy rolls lacked spice and the crunchy rolls lacked crunch. It was presented well, just didn't show the level of care the front of the menu had. We informed our server of the sushi problems and she apologized but still charged us for all the sushi. Making an otherwise great experience not so great. I would recommend those who come here to focus on the front of the menu exclusively. Those dishes are stellar and are well worth the asking price. The sushi menu on the back is basic in flavor, pricy, and only worth having if you really need sushi. It does limit their menu significantly, but the quality difference is drastic.

Great noodles, good broth, light on toppings but good quality…read more Was at the market, trying some new places. This place immediately caught my eye, and I was sure to try this place out. The staff were very friendly and bubbly. A lot of nerds making ramen at their booth. Tons of anime figurines, memorabilia, and references. This is the style of ramen place that an anime convention should have. The ramen was pretty good. The noodles were fresh and well prepared. The ramen broth was a little heavy on the bonito, authentic but needed more richness and a little more salt. The toppings were seasoned and prepared properly. The pork was good but a small portion. Egg was jammy and salty, and the other toppings were nice flavor pops. For 12.50, it's a very solid bowl of ramen. Despite my gripes, the ramen is a very solid bowl of noodles and the staff is very fun to interact with. The ramen just needs a little tweaking to make it stellar. But it's one of the better spots in the market

It's on the far side of food in the public market, so it's not really visible when you first walk in (you kind of have to loop around to the other side to get there), but their spot is nice - stocked with some cool anime memorabilia and some other nice decorations. I got the "Super Shoyu". It was definitely a good bowl of ramen; a nice soy umami flavor with some diverse notes throughout. The pork chashu was cut nice and thin, and I was able to watch him torch the pork right in front of me which was cool. The menma was really flavorful and added some depth to the bowl. I think the only thing I'd hope for going forward was a bit more broth in the bowl (it was enough, but felt like there could have been a bit more added). They have a cool loyalty program too (which of course I joined, I'm a sucker for rewards programs). I'm looking forward to heading back to the public market soon and grabbing some more bowls off the menu! Great job so far guys!!
